Chapter 201 Assault Rifle that was launched in advance (Part 2)

According to Sokov's idea, even if he provided relatively complete drawings, it would take at least one or two days for Bazarov and his team to create a sample gun. Unexpectedly, early the next morning, Yakov slapped the door outside and made a sound. As soon as he saw Sokov open the door, he said excitedly: "Misha, the sample gun has been created. Let's set off now!"
Sokov was quite surprised when he heard that the sample gun was made so quickly: "What, did the sample gun be made so quickly?"
"That's right," Yakov nodded and replied, "It was the factory director Nikolayevich who personally called me, saying that the chief engineer Bazarov, with more than 20 skilled workers, worked overtime overnight to create it."
Although the sample gun had been made, Sokov was still interested because there were no bullets used for this assault rifle. If the gun had no bullets, it would be no different from a fire stick. So after Yakov finished speaking, he stood still and moved, and led the topic to the research of rocket propulsion systems: "Yakov, what progress has there been from engineer Kurk?"
Sokov's words made Yakov stunned for a while, and then he remembered that he was talking about rockets, so he asked tentatively: "Are you talking about rockets?" After Sokov nodded and expressed his affirmation, he continued, "There will be no result for Kurk's place without ten days and half a month. Let's go to the machinery factory first."
Seeing that Yakov repeatedly proposed to go to the machinery factory, Sokov couldn't object anymore. After all, the new rifle that the other party wanted to see was "designed" by himself. If the designer did not go, it would be a bit unreasonable.
As soon as the jeep they were riding in reached the factory building, Sokov saw Nikolaevich standing at the door through the car window. As soon as the car stopped, the factory manager who managed tens of thousands of workers actually trotted to the front of the car, took the initiative to open the car door for Sokov and said politely: "Major Sokov, welcome to our factory."
After getting off the car from the other side, Yakov walked around Nikolaevich from the rear of the car and asked, "Comrade Director, I don't know where the chief engineer is?"
"Captain Yakov," Nikolayevich turned to face Yakov and said, "Comrade General is waiting for us on the gun test field, let's get in the car!"
Sokov was about to turn around the car, but was stopped by Nikolayevich, who said politely: "Major Sokov, the car is there." After that, he pointed at a jeep parked next to the factory building, "Let's go to the gun test site in that car."
After Nikolayevich said this, Sokov immediately understood that the gun test field in the machinery factory was an important place and foreign vehicles could not enter at will, so he and Yakov got on the jeep.
Around the gun test field was a two-meter-high wall, which might have been to prevent anyone from climbing over, and there was broken glass on it. The militia guarding the door saw the jeep the factory manager was riding, and quickly opened the large iron gate, then stood by the door, raised his hand to his forehead and saluted.
As soon as he drove into the gate, Sokov heard a crisp sound of gunfire. Before he could ask, Nikolaevich said first: "Listen, the chief engineer can't wait, and he is already starting the test shooting."
"What, start the test firing?" Sokov couldn't help but ask in surprise when he heard Nikolayevich say this: "Comrade Director, do you even produce bullets?"
"Comrade Major, why are you a stubborn mind?" Nikolayevich turned his head and looked at Sokov, and said with a smile: "If there were no bullets, how could he test the fire?"
"But, but," everything that happened in front of him exceeded Sokov's vision. He asked in confusion: "Our army does not currently have the bullets that this new rifle can use?"
After the jeep stopped in front of a row of bungalows, Nikolaevich jumped out of the car first and turned his head to Sokov and said, "Although our army does not have new bullets, we can build them. Don't forget that we can take on military production tasks and process a new type of bullet. For us, it is not a bad thing. Besides, you have told the chief engineer the parameters of the bullets. He only needs to tell the technicians these data to produce such bullets."
Nikolayevich took Sokov and others around the bungalow and came to the gun test platform. Seeing Bazarov in a happy mood, he smiled and asked, "Comrade Chief Engineer, what's the situation?"
"How to say, Comrade Director, this gun is really great!" Bazarov took the assault rifle from the gun tester and handed it to Nikolayevich, saying: "After our test firing, it was initially confirmed that this new weapon has the fierce firepower of the submachine gun and the power of the rifle. If you go through a few basic tests, you can consider mass production."
When Bazarov said this, Yakov stood aside and listened carefully. After he finished speaking, he immediately interrupted and asked, "Comrade General Engineer, is this new rifle really as good as you said?"
"Yes, comrade Captain." Bazarov turned his head and looked at Sokov and said excitedly: "If this rifle can be equipped with troops as soon as possible, it can greatly improve the combat effectiveness of our army. Therefore, I want to conduct a series of tests as soon as possible to test the performance and applicability of this rifle."
"Comrade General Engineer," Sokov stared at the familiar assault rifle in Bazarov's hand and asked, "Do you know if you have found any design flaws in this rifle?"
"No," Bazarov shook his head quickly and said, "At least I did not find any problems in the previous rounds of test shots."
"Comrade General Engineer," said the gun tester standing next to him, and hesitated: "Can I talk about my feelings about this weapon?"
"Tell me!" Nikolaevich threw an encouraging look at the other party: "You are a gun tester and are the one who knows the situation of the firearms best. You may be able to find many tasks that we ignore."
"To be honest, this new rifle has good shooting performance, and the accuracy is very high when targets ranging from fifty to two hundred meters." The gun tester said cautiously: "But when shooting continuously, the muzzle jumps seriously, which affects the shooting accuracy."
The words of the gun tester made Bazarov's smile froze on his face. He turned to face the gun tester and asked with a serious expression: "Since you discovered these defects when you were testing the gun, why not report to me in time?"
"Comrade Chief Engineer," the blamed gun tester replied in a panic: "In the second set of shooting data tests, I fired continuously with the remaining ten bullets. Later, I did not test again, and I don't know if this situation is representative."
"Comrade Chief Engineer," Sokov quickly came out and changed the topic: "I want to know, how many sets of shooting tests do you do?"
"Four sets of shooting tests were conducted," Bazarov said with four fingers, "We used an arc-shaped magazine with a capacity of 30 rounds to supply ammunition. The four sets were equivalent to firing 120 rounds."
Sokov originally thought that even if Bazarov and his team created intermediate power bullets, they would not have too many. Unexpectedly, they actually fired four magazines and asked quickly: "How many bullets do you have?"
"There are six magazines." Nikolayevich answered the question this time, and he said excitedly: "The chief engineers and the others have built a total of 300 intermediate power bullets, so that we can determine the advantages and disadvantages of this new rifle through ten sets of data testing."
Sokov knew very well that the situation mentioned by the gun tester was indeed a problem with the AK47 assault rifle. Not to mention now, even in later generations, it cannot be effectively improved. For this reason, he specially reminded Nikolayevich and Bazarov: "I think the situation mentioned by the gun tester should exist. But I think this is just a small flaw in the existence of this rifle. It will become the future standard weapon of our army with its reliable performance and powerful power."
Neither Nikolayevich nor Bazarov made any statement about Sokov's statement. Only Yakov, who was standing next to him, felt that Sokov's words were a bit boasting. He coughed in a hurry and said, "Misha, whether this new rifle can become the future standard weapon of our army? What you say is not the limit. It only needs Nikolayevich and Bazarov to say."
Unexpectedly, after Yakov finished speaking, Bazarov actually took the initiative to help Sokov speak: "Captain Yakov, your statement is wrong. According to my feelings about this new type of rifle, what the major said is entirely possible."
Bazarov's statement surprised everyone except Sokov. A new weapon that had just made a sample gun and fired more than 100 bullets will become a standard weapon for the troops in the future. This is a bit fantastic, right?
Although there are still many follow-up tests, Sokov was already very clear in his heart that it was only a matter of time before the assault rifle was installed in the army, but before that, he should first build a part of his army. Therefore, he pulled the factory director and the engineer to the side and whispered to the two: "Carent Director, Comrade Chief Engineer, I have something to say to you in private."
"Please say, Major Sokov." Nikolaevich said: "If you have any request, just make it. As long as it is within our capacity, your request will be met."
"I want to have fifty new rifles like this before mid-April." Sokov looked at the two and asked tentatively: "I wonder if you can supply me?"
"There are difficulties, Major Sokov." Nikolayevich sighed and said, "Although this gun has good performance from today's tests, it still needs to be conducted in a series of tests and reported to the Weapons and Equipment Department. Only after obtaining a license can it be put into formal production."
"Comrade Director, I know the test process will be very long." Sokov looked at Nikolayevich and said, "But as a designer, I have confidence in this new rifle, so please make 50 new rifles for me in the name of making sample guns."
Sokov's request made Nikolayevich very troubled, so he wanted to refuse. The person standing in front of him was the designer of this new rifle; if he agreed to his request, it seemed that he would violate the relevant regulations. Just when Nikolayevich was in a dilemma, Yakov asked: "Misha, I want to ask, what do you want a batch of new rifles for privately?"
"Yakov, you should know that after a long battle, the reduction of troops in my battalion was very serious." Sokov felt that if he wanted to convince Nikolayevich, he had to convince Yakov, after all, he was the representative sent by Ustinov. As long as the representative of the Weapons and Equipment Department expressed his agreement, Nikolayevich could agree to his request. Therefore, he tried hard to find a suitable reason to convince Yakov: "When I cannot get supplementary to the superiors, I can only maintain the combat effectiveness of the troops by increasing the power of the gun."
I don't know if it was Yakov convinced by Sokov or if he was worried that Sokov's troops would suffer in the upcoming Kharkov battle, so he hesitated for a moment and said to Nikolayevich: "Comrade Director, since Major Sokov has proposed that fifty new rifles are needed, you are responsible for providing him with necessary weapons and supporting ammunition. As for Comrade Ustinov, I will explain it myself."
Since Yakov had agreed, Nikolayevich could not find a reason to object. He turned to Bazarov and asked, "Comrade Chief Engineer, how long will it take for you to produce fifty rifles?"
"Two days at most." Bazarov stretched out his two fingers and said, "Although it took us almost a day to make sample guns, it was because we had to temporarily process various required parts and wasted a lot of time. Now the workers involved in assembling sample guns have mastered the assembly technology. Not to mention fifty new rifles, even five hundred, we can complete them in a very short time."
Although Sokov also knew in his heart that the more excellent guns as many as the AK47, the better, considering the difficulty of manufacturing the intermediate power bullets and the ability to replenish logistics, he felt that fifty bullets were already the limit. If there were too many, there would be not enough bullets.
Thinking of this, he quickly said to Bazarov: "Comrade Chief Engineer, thank you for your kindness. I think fifty pieces are more than enough. If there are more, there may be no guarantee in terms of ammunition replenishment."
