Chapter 252 Bombing the train

The four platoons of soldiers led by Brisky walked at the forefront of the entire battalion and took the initiative to assume the responsibility of the guide. They had been active in this area for more than a month, and their familiarity with the terrain was no less than those sent by the Army Command. After a day and night of march, the troops of the First Company and the Second Company came to a place fifteen kilometers away from the city of Dim.
Seeing that the soldiers were exhausted after a continuous long march, Sokov ordered the troops to rest on the spot and took Brisky and a guard squad soldiers to the front to check the terrain.
Sokov and his friends came to the hill not far away and found a suitable location to establish an observation site. Sokov raised his telescope and looked southwest. Three or four kilometers away from the hill, there were railways and roads leading to the city of Dym in the distance. Sokov began to wonder in his mind: Can we do something now, such as burying mines on the road, blowing up German transport vehicles; removing the rails, making the enemy's army unable to drive...
"Major, look at it." Just as Sokov stared at the road and railway in the distance, he suddenly heard Brisky standing beside him say loudly: "Look at the north, there is a German army coming!"
Sokov quickly looked in the direction Brisky said, and indeed saw a locomotive with black smoke squirting from the chimney, leading more than a dozen cars coming from the north. Sokov stared at the train car for a while, then put down his telescope and asked Brisky: "Captain, do you think the German train is being pulled by soldiers or supplies?"
Brisky frowned and looked for a while, then said decisively: "Major, I think it should be an arms train. Look, the third and seventh sections of the carriages are covered with camouflage nets, and there should be German anti-aircraft machine guns inside." After saying his own analysis, Brisky sighed and said, "It's a pity that we are too far from the railway. We know that this is the enemy's arms train, but we can't do anything to do with it."
Sokov felt that what Brisky said made a lot of sense. He thought in pain: "The place where the troops rest is several kilometers away from the enemy's railway. Even if you are rushing over now, it will be too late. It would be great if there was a 76.2mm cannon. With the level of artillery soldiers in the camp, it would be enough to easily destroy the enemy's arms train!"
While they were very upset, the roar of the plane engine suddenly came from the sky. Everyone looked up and saw six fighter planes flying from the east. The three planes flew towards the location of the army for a formation. "It's our plane," Brisky said excitedly after seeing the planes in the air, "They must be here to bomb the train."
While speaking, the plane had begun to lower its altitude and dive towards the high-speed train. Sokov clearly saw through the telescope that the camouflage nets on the two cars mentioned by Brisky were unveiled, revealing the 38-type 20-mm air defense gun hidden below. The German air defense immediately began to shoot at the dive aircraft. As the train was driving at high speed, aiming and shooting became difficult. After finally locking the target, the plane had already flown to other places as soon as it stepped on the gun button, so that the shells they fired were all empty.
The German air defense artillery could not hit the Soviet aircraft, and the Soviet aircraft dive strafing continued to hit the carriage, but the harm to the entire train was not great. Seeing this, Sokov couldn't help but sigh secretly, thinking that even if he used all the onboard ammunition, he would not be able to destroy the German army. It would be better to try to drop bombs. As long as one bomb hits the target, it would be enough to smash the army to pieces.
The planes that kept hovering over the army, not only achieved limited results, but also were full of dangers under the attack of German air defense artillery. One of the planes suddenly left the formation and flew south along the railway. Seeing this situation, Brisky said in surprise: "What's going on? Why did the plane fly away? Did the ammunition run out?"
Sokov stared at the plane leaving the team for a while, and then made a bold guess: "Captain, the plane was not exhausted from ammunition, but was preparing to bomb the enemy's train."
Hearing Sokov say this, Brisky asked in confusion: "He can drop bombs over the train, why should he fly to the front of the enemy's train?"
"It's very simple," Sokov told Briskykope. "If he drops a bomb above the train, and when the bomb drops, the train has already driven far forward, so the bomb will fall. But if he drops a bomb from the front of the train, the chance of hitting the target will be greatly improved."
Perhaps to verify Sokov's statement, the plane turned a big circle in the air after crossing the train, then dived towards the locomotive, and dropped a bomb. The bomb rolled in the air for several times and hit the locomotive directly.
The locomotive suddenly stopped, and the thick locomotive boiler burst out like walnuts smashed by a hammer after being bombed. The carriage dragged behind was like a big hand and threw it out heavily, rolling on the rails, and was blown apart in a series of explosions, and then blown away and to pieces. In the smoke and dust that covered the sky, the locomotive that had already burned into fireballs dragged the rolling black smoke and slid on the rails with inertia until another explosion occurred. The dozens of tons of locomotives, like toys, broke into pieces in the continuous rolling and explosions.
In the distance, a cluster of mushroom clouds rose into the sky and rushed straight into the sky, alarming the officers and soldiers who were resting. They stood up one after another, looked at the smoke rising from the other side of the hill, and kept asking: "What's going on? What happened? What's the explosion coming from where?"
Although everyone was asking the same questions, unfortunately no one answered their questions. Vanya asked the platoon leaders to appease the soldiers to control the situation, while he led several soldiers to the hills to figure out what was going on.
The German army was destroyed, and the plane that dropped bombs head-on was not good. Although the pilot pulled the plane up in time, long black smoke still emerged from the bottom of the wings. Seeing the plane turn around and flew east, not far away, it fell head-on into the forest.
When Sokov saw Vanya bringing several soldiers up the hill, he quickly told him: "Captain Vanya, we have a plane crashed into the forest over there, and you can send someone to rescue immediately."
"Gay Major," Brisky rushed to say before Vanya said, "Leave the mission of rescuing the pilot to us, we are familiar with the terrain here."
"Comrade Battalion Commander," Vanya might also think that Brisky was the best candidate for searching and rescuing pilots, so he told Sokov: "I agree with letting the four-row warriors search and rescue the pilots."
"Captain, you can set out immediately without further ado." Seeing that Wanya also advocated letting the four-row warriors go to rescue the pilot, Sokov nodded and ordered: "If the pilot is alive, he will be saved. Even if he is sacrificed, his body must be brought back. Do you understand?"
"I understand, Comrade Major." After Brisky said this, he immediately turned around and ran down the hill.
Seeing that the target on the ground was destroyed, the five planes hovering in the air immediately divided into two groups. Two planes flew towards the forest where the crashed, while the other three planes flew towards the hill where Sokov and the others were.
"No, comrade battalion commander, the pilot discovered us." Seeing the plane flying towards his location, Vanya quickly shouted: "Hurry up and prepare to contact Bu! Otherwise they will shoot at us."
When he saw the plane flying towards him, Sokov didn't care. When he heard Wanya's shouting, he immediately realized that the pilot might have regarded himself as an enemy and was preparing to fly over to destroy him. In order to prevent him from dying unjustly under the strafing of his plane, Sokov also shouted loudly: "Hurry up, take out the contact cloth quickly."
Hearing the shouts of Vanya and Sokov, a soldier from the guard squad next to him hurriedly took out a roll of red contact cloth from the picture bag, and with the help of others, he unfolded it and spread it on the ground.
Three Soviet aircraft flying over the hill were about to dive the people moving on the ground, and saw the red contact cloth laid on the ground. Knowing that the person who was moving below was his own people, he raised the height, hovered in the air and flew away. Not long after the three aircraft left, the two planes hovering over the forest also flew away. They might have received a notice that they knew that they had their own troops here and could help rescue the crashed comrades, so they returned to the airport with confidence.
Thanks to the book friends for their hopelessness and meaninglessness, fugudoku and Yan Xueyu's reward and support!
