Chapter 427 The battle for the station (in the morning)

The officer who was leading the rushing upstairs with the MG34 machine gun was Lieutenant Vovazov, deputy commander of the 2nd Company of the First Battalion. He pressed the stock on his abdomen and did not pull the trigger to the end. Instead, he used a single shot or a point shot to shoot at the black shadows that emerged in front. With the sound of gunshots, the 7.92mm shell jumped out one after another, landed on the steps of the stairs, making a series of crisp impacts.
The sailors of the Second Company followed Vovasov and rushed up the stairs. They shot with their rifles in their hands, occasionally throwing out a few grenades to blow up the dark shadows in the corridor.
The machine gun in Vovazov's hand used fifty rounds of bullets. Even though he had been using single or point shots, the bullets were quickly exhausted. Vovazov threw the machine gun to the ground, bent down to pick up the submachine gun from the corpse of a German army, and continued to shoot towards the shaking black shadows in the corridor.
However, just as he was about to kill, a wounded German soldier who was shot and fell to death fired several shots at Vovatov. Although the wounded German soldier was quickly stabbed to death by the soldiers who followed him with bayonets, Vovatov still shook it on the spot for a few times and then fell to the ground. Just as the sailors thought that their deputy company commander had died, he stood up again with the wall, covered the wound with his left hand, held the submachine gun in one hand, and continued to shoot in front.
With such a brave sailor, it became a natural thing to successfully retake the station building. But before they could take a breath, the German army rushed towards the station building from all parts of the station, trying to drive the sailors away. While Lemusef organized a man to fight back, he sent a correspondent to notify the company occupying the nail factory building and attacked from the German flanks to crush their attack.
The second company commander bent down to run to Lemusev, who was standing by the window and shooting downstairs, and shouted at him: "Comrade Battalion Commander, we have too few people, and we may not be able to withstand the enemy's attack."
"Second Company Commander," Lemusev called out the window, then shrank his body back and asked, "How many people are left in your second company?"
"There are more than twenty people in the company, including the wounded." The second company commander said with a bitter face: "The situation in the third company is slightly better, and they have more than eighty people left."
The second company commander's words made Lemusev's heart sank suddenly. The troops in his hand were only more than one hundred, and the enemy attacking outside the building was at least more than three hundred. Can he block it?
"Comrade Battalion Commander," the second company commander saw that Lemusev did not speak, and continued, "We have too few people. If we continue to fight like this, we will definitely not be able to withstand it. Let's ask our superiors for help!"
"Seeking for help?" After Lemusev changed the magazine, he called out the window and retracted his body. After he said to the second company commander with a bitter face: "Don't forget, we attacked the station here without permission from our superiors to act without permission. Do you think the brigade commander will send reinforcements to us?"
"But, didn't the liaison officer from the Army Command say that we could report our situation to the brigade commander?" After thinking of the guard platoon brought by Krimov, the second company commander suggested to Lemusev: "By the way, did the liaison officer also bring a guard platoon of more than fifty people? We can ask him to send troops to reinforce us."
"Can the combat effectiveness of the army be comparable to our sailors?" Lemusev immediately rejected the proposal of the second company commander, "What is the use of transferring this lineup? Their combat effectiveness can only be as good as our squad. Second company commander, stop talking nonsense here, hurry up and go back to command your troops."
Although the Soviet army seized many German submachine guns or machine guns after occupying the station building, most sailors did not have the rifles they often used. This led to an embarrassing situation. The sailors had to pull the bolts when they fired a shot, while the German soldiers who used submachine guns could fire more bullets at the same time. Due to the difference in firepower, the defenses arranged by the sailors on the north side of the station building were soon broken through by the German army, and groups of German soldiers rushed into the building along the platform.
Seeing the enemy rushing into the building, the third company commander immediately brought two platoons of soldiers to face it and started a close melee with the enemy. For a moment, in the waiting hall of the station, the officers and soldiers of both sides collided and started a face-to-face battle. Don’t see that the number of German troops was large, but when it comes to night battles and close battles, they were no match for well-trained sailors. The German troops occupied at least two-thirds of the bodies lying on the ground. Seeing that the Soviet army was fighting so tenaciously, the German officers and soldiers knew that they would not be able to take advantage of them, so they hurriedly withdrew from the station building.
The German army's attack on the station building was not smooth. The German army attacked from the flanks and was shot by machine guns from the top of the nail factory building. They were immediately killed and injured. Just as the enemy was in chaos, a company commander rushed out of the factory with a platoon, killing the enemy and fleeing in panic.
After repelling the enemy's attack, Lemusev finally breathed a sigh of relief, because the Germans' next attack would be at least a few hours later, and the sailors under his command could use this time to take a good rest.
He ordered the correspondents to come and ask the two company commanders directly: "How many people do you two have in your company?"
"Fifteen people, eight of them were wounded." The second company commander replied.
After a moment of silence, the third company commander replied: "There are more than fifty people in my company, half of which are wounded. Comrade Battalion Commander, do you see if the first company is transferred here?"
"No," Lemusef shook his head and said firmly: "If they continue to stick to the nail making factory, they can restrain the German troops and prevent the enemy from attacking us with all their strength. Once they are concentrated in the station building, with our equipment, facing the fierce attack of the German army, they will soon be able to fight all their troops."
Just when the three of them were in a low mood, the soldier Hollor hurried over and said in a piss-official manner: "Comrade Battalion Commander, reinforcements, our reinforcements have arrived!"
"What, reinforcements are coming?" The three of them heard Hollor's report and suddenly stood up from the ground and asked in an incredible tone: "Holor, you are not mistaken, how could there be reinforcements?"
"Yes, it's our reinforcements." Hollor said confidently: "They are coming towards us. In order to prevent misunderstandings, they are also shouting 'Going forward at full speed'." As soon as he finished speaking, a loud shout came from outside the station.
Lemusev listened for a while, and the people outside were indeed shouting, "Go forward at full speed!" Hearing such shouts, his eyes couldn't help but wet: "Yes, it's our people. Only our sailors will shout such slogans when they attack! Let's go out and see which army they came from."
Lemusev brought the two company commanders to the entrance of the station building and saw a group of sailors wearing naval uniforms rushing in. The second company commander recognized several of them at once and said excitedly: "Yes, they are our people. I know a few of them, they are all from the Second Battalion."
"Where is your commander?" Lemusef grabbed a sailor passing by and asked loudly, "What are you here to do?"
"Comrade Captain," the sailor did not know Lemusev, but knew his military rank in the title, so he took the initiative to report: "We are from the Second Battalion, and we were ordered to come here to reinforce the First Battalion. As for the commander, we should be behind us."
Lemusev ordered the two company commanders to take these newly arrived sailors to take over the defensive positions of the troops, while he stayed at the door full of ruins and waited for the commander of the second battalion to come.
After waiting for a moment, Lemusev heard someone shouting loudly: "Captain Lemusev, where are you?" and replied in a hurry, "I am here."
Soon, several officers and soldiers in army uniforms appeared in front of Lemusev, walking in front of the major wearing a large hat, the second battalion commander. He said to Lemusev with a proud voice: "Comrade Captain, your battalion mission has been completed. Please hand over the defense of the station building to our battalion as soon as possible, and then retreat to the back to rest."
"No, Major, we cannot retreat." When Lemusev saw that the other party came, he asked himself to hand over the station building that had been occupied by countless sailors with the last drop of blood. Naturally, he refused to agree easily, and retorted: "In order to seize this station building, we sacrificed more than 200 sailors. If we retreated like this, how can we be worthy of those sacrificed comrades?"
Don't see that the second battalion commander is a major, but since both of them are battalion commanders, he really cannot command Lemusev, so he can only say helplessly: "Okay, Captain Lemusev, since the station building was captured by your battalion, you must be very familiar with the environment here. Please order your subordinates to help my subordinates familiarize themselves with the environment here so that they can make full use of these terrain to attack the Germans in the next battle."
As the two were talking, Hollor hurried over again and reported to Lemusev: "Comrade Battalion Commander, there was a small accident. Please come here."
"What accident happened?" Lemusev couldn't help but feel a little shocked when he heard Hollor say this. He thought there was something wrong with the defense line he arranged, or that his subordinates had a conflict with the sailors of the Second Battalion, etc., so he quickly ordered Hollor: "Take me there quickly."
On the way, Lemusev asked Hollor: "Holor, what happened? Could it be that our soldiers had a conflict with the comrades in the second battalion?"
"No, comrade battalion commander." Seeing that Lemusev had misunderstood, Hollor quickly explained to him: "I found several figures on the platform and shouted at us, saying that they were our own people, and told us not to shoot."
"Own people?! How is this possible?" Lemusef frowned when he heard Hollor say this, "The enemy has occupied the station for a long time. Why are there still our own people? I think it may be the Germans pretending to be."
"Captain Lemusev," as soon as he finished speaking, he heard someone beside him echoing: "You are right. The people on the platform outside must be faked by the Germans. They just wanted to sneak into the station building and then work with the Germans who were preparing to attack next."
If the Second Battalion Commander had not said this, perhaps Lemusev would have thought that the figures on the platform were all Germans preparing to attack. The reason they pretended to be Soviet commanders and fighters was to sneak into the station building to cause damage. But when the Second Battalion Commander said this, he changed his mind and felt that the German attack had just been repelled. According to convention, it was impossible for them to launch an attack in a few hours. At this time, even if a few people were sent to sneak into the station building as their own, it would not be of use. He could completely disarm these people and then send a special person to take care of them.
Lemusef followed Hollor to the exit to the platform and came to the back of a sandbag fortification. Sure enough, someone on the platform was shouting loudly in Russian: "Don't shoot, don't shoot, we are our own people!"
From the pronunciations of those people, Lemusev heard that he was a genuine Russian, and he had a little bit of a St. Petersburg accent. After confirming that the other party was Russian, Lemusev shouted loudly at the platform: "My battalion commander Captain Lemusev, which part of you are?"
Lemusev spoke very skillfully. He showed his position and military rank without revealing the true number of the troops. If the other party was really his own, they knew how to answer. After a moment, a voice sounded again from the other side: "We are from the 42nd Regiment of the 13th Guard Division of General Rodimtev."
While the troops were driving here, Lemusev heard that the troops that were standing in this area were General Rodimtev's 13th Guard Division. After the situation deteriorated, they had lost contact with the Army Command. Unexpectedly, his troops still existed here. Lemusev shouted to the opposite side: "Come here, move slowly, so as not to cause unnecessary misunderstandings."
Those who claimed to be guard soldiers, after hearing Lemusev's shouts, walked out of their hiding place on the platform and slowly walked along the platform towards the entrance of the station building.
When they entered the station building, a group of sailors immediately surrounded them and pointed at them with black guns. Lemusev counted for a while and found fifteen people. He walked up to them and raised his voice and said, "I am Captain Lemusev, who is the commander here?"
