Chapter 860 Leaving the Barrier Factory

Whether it was Lyudnikov or Sokov, they both ignored an important issue: when the commanders and fighters snatched airdrop materials, the defense on the positions naturally became weak, which gave the German army with superior forces an opportunity to take advantage of.
While Sokov was discussing with Lyudnikov how to store airdrop supplies, a soldier with a gun broke in from outside, gasping and shouting loudly: "Comrade Commander, no, the enemy is rushing up!"
"Calm down," Lyudnikov recognized the other party as a soldier of the 768th Regiment and quickly interrupted the other party, "Where has the enemy gone?"
"They broke through our regiment's position, which was less than two hundred meters away from here." The soldier said excitedly: "Comrade Commander, please move quickly, otherwise it will be too late."
"A slut, I didn't take a step back when the enemy rushed to me last time. Now there are still two hundred meters, so what can I worry about?" Lyudnikov asked at the warrior: "Where is the leader of your 768th Regiment?"
"The leader died!"
"The commander died?!" Lyudnikov suddenly opened his eyes in surprise when he heard one of his commanders sacrificed, "How did he sacrifice?"
"The enemy attacked today is different from the enemy attacked before." The warrior replied: "They used the craters as cover, used short leaps to quickly approach our positions, and then threw grenades to block our sight with cover. The regiment commander was killed by the enemy's grenades."
"Who is in command of the troops now?" Lyudnikov asked loudly.
After Sokov learned that the enemy had broken through the defense line of the 768th Regiment, he took advantage of the time when Lyudnikov learned about the situation from the soldiers and called Brisky. After the phone was called, he asked bluntly: "Comrade Captain, the enemy has broken through the defense line of the 768th Regiment, why don't you fire?"
"Comrade of the Division." Brisky had obviously guessed that Sokov would call himself, and quickly replied: "The snow outside is too heavy, we can't see the target clearly and cannot carry out shelling."
Since the artillery could not deal with the enemy, it could only be solved by infantry. Sokov put down the phone, grabbed the assault rifle leaning against the side, stood up and said to Lyudnikov: "Comrade Colonel, you are here to control the overall situation. I will take people to block the enemy."
Lyudnikov was stunned at first. When he came to his senses and wanted to stop Sokov, he found that Sokov had rushed into the abandoned factory and was shouting loudly: "Comrades in the guard platoon, the enemy has rushed towards us. Come with me and drive the enemy away."
Sokov, with Samoilov's guard platoon, rushed out of the factory, jumped over the crater, jumped over the Maxim heavy machine guns that were twisted beside the collapsed sandbag, jumped over the bodies of officers and soldiers on both sides, and rushed to the battlefield where two soldiers in different uniforms fought without hesitation.
It took Sokov and his team only one minute to rush through this short distance of two hundred meters, but in such a short time, at least dozens of people fell down on the offensive and defensive sides. The German army, which had the advantage in numbers, had an increasingly fierce offensive, trying to completely break through the Soviet army's crumbling defense line.
The war had reached a critical moment, and there was no extra time to consider or observe. Sokov raised the assault rifle in his hand and pulled the trigger at the German soldiers not far away. After a few gunshots, two German soldiers fell to the ground. The Soviet soldiers fighting with them had no time to breathe, and rushed towards other enemies with bayonets.
Seeing the division commander raising his hand and killing two German soldiers, the soldiers of the guard platoon behind him were immediately motivated. They rushed into the battle group one by one and started a close battle with the enemy. Sokov stood in the distance and calmly shot the enemy. This time his shooting was more prepared than the shooting he had just taken. Almost everyone of the German soldiers he selected shot and fell.
The addition of the guard platoon had an immediate effect, not to mention that there was a colonel who personally took the battle and defeated several German soldiers. The role played by his performance was definitely not comparable to that of a supervising team equipped with machine guns. The soldiers who witnessed Sokov's amazing performance increased their adrenal secretion, as if they had endless strength all over their bodies. Within a short time, they killed the German soldiers who had just gained the upper hand and retreated step by step.
Sokov held the gun and walked forward step by step, pulling the trigger every step. Every time the gun was fired, an unlucky German soldier would be shot and fell down. But he did not notice that an injured German officer was lying in the crater. Seeing him passing by, he raised his pistol and aimed at him.
The German officer pulled the trigger and the bullet hit Sokov's waist. He was shocked all over, but he did not fall down. When the German officer was wondering why the other party had not fallen after being shot, Sokov had turned around and found the officer lying in the crater. He turned the gun and fired several shots at him, killing him in the crater.
Colonel Wenzel, who was commanding the attack in the rear, saw his second battalion through a telescope and was about to break through the Soviet defense line, but the situation reversed because of the emergence of a small army. "How could this happen?" Wenzel put down the telescope and asked Captain Schwarzer, the commander of the second battalion, on the side: "Why are your subordinates driven back by the Russians?"
Schwarzer raised his telescope and observed it carefully for a while, and said to Wenzel: "Mr. Colonel, it is said that there is a reinforcement from Mamayevgang in the barricade factory. Will this unit be the one who repels us?"
Regarding the headache of Sokov leading troops into the barricade factory, the officers of the 305th Regiment heard the news. Although they were not confirmed by the division commander, everyone knew very well that if they continued to attack the barricade factory, they would sooner or later meet this army. Unexpectedly, today's attack was about to succeed, but because of the emergence of this army, all the previous efforts were gone.
Seeing that Wentzel was not speaking, Schwarzer asked carefully: "Mr. Colonel, do you order the troops to continue the attack?"
"Since Sokov's troops have been dispatched, it is obviously unwise to continue attacking." Wentzel shook his head and hummed softly in his nostrils: "Hmph, today is the luck of these Russians, we will let them go for the time being and deal with them another day."
Seeing that Wentzel was not planning to attack, Schwarzer quickly ordered people to send a retreat signal to the troops that were still struggling to support the troops ahead. The German soldiers who were retreating step by step, breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the retreat signal, and retreated like a tide.
Seeing the enemy retreating, Sokov did not order the troops to pursue him, but shouted loudly at the soldiers: "Comrades, the enemy has been defeated by us. Immediately seize the time to rescue the wounded, strengthen the fortifications, and prepare to face the enemy's new attack."
Although Sokov was not the superior of these soldiers, the soldiers knew Sokov, so he implemented his orders very simply. Seeing that the soldiers were busy, Sokov was worried that their troops would not be enough, so he left Samoilov's guard platoon here to assist in the defense, and returned to the command center alone along the traffic trench.
Seeing Sokov coming in from outside with a gun, Lyudnikov immediately stood up from his seat and asked with concern: "Col. Sokov, you are back, aren't injured?"
While leaning against the table, Sokov reached out to touch the shot, thinking to himself: If he hadn't been wearing the bulletproof vest he sent from another time and space, he might have been lifted down as a wounded person at this moment. However, in order not to make Lyudnikov worry about him, he shook his head and replied with a smile: "Comrade Colonel, thank you for your concern. I'm fine and not injured."
However, considering that the enemy may launch another attack at any time, he reminded Lyudnikov: "Comrade Colonel, although the enemy's attack has been repelled, we don't know when they will launch another attack. Therefore, when the troops snatching airdrop materials come back, they must immediately deploy them to the position."
"You are right." Lyudnikov said with a wry smile: "It will be a big move in a few days. If I throw away the barricade factory at this time and the commander doesn't need to send me to the military court, I can shoot my head with a pistol." Since there was a radio operator in the room, Lyudnikov did not easily say the counterattack, but replaced it with big moves. Anyway, he knew Sokov could understand.
"Yes, there are only a few days left." Sokov understood what Lyudnikov meant in seconds and echoed: "We must not make any mistakes here before the big operation begins."
The radio operator on the side heard the two division commanders talking like a mystery, and showed a shocked expression on his face. He wanted to ask what was going on, but when he thought of the confidentiality regulations in the army, he obediently closed his mouth.
During the time when Sokov was commanding the troops to counterattack, Lyudnikov was worried that the barricade factory might be lost, so he called Tsukikov to report to him about the airdrop situation and the difficulties the factory is currently facing. Tsukikov learned that Sokov personally led his people to charge, and he was furious: "Col. Lyudnikov, how can you let a division commander take the lead in charge? If something happens to him, won't the 41st Guard Division of Mamayevgang be without a leader?"
At that time, Lyudnikov replied in a panic: "Comrade Commander, you can't blame me. Colonel Sokov heard that the enemy had rushed to less than two hundred meters away from the command center, and without saying a word, he took his guard platoon to counterattack the enemy."
After waiting for Lyudnikov to finish speaking, he remained silent for a long time before saying unhappily: "When Sokov comes back, you ask him to call me immediately."
When Lyudnikov saw Sokov coming back with all his heart, he felt relieved. He remembered Cuikov's advice and quickly said to Sokov: "Col. Sokov, Commander Cuikov just said on the phone, "As soon as you come back, call him immediately."
As soon as Sokov called the headquarters, he aroused Cuikov's swearing: "Col. Sokov, what did you do? Have you forgotten what I reminded you before? You must know that you are a division commander, not a company commander. Your responsibility is to sit in the commander and command the troops to fight, but to lead the team to charge like a company commander. If you make similar mistakes in the future, I will demote you to company commander and let you charge every day..."
Regarding the storm of Cuikov, Sokov knew that the other party was concerned about him and would not really demote himself to the company commander to charge. He quickly laughed and said, "I'm sorry, comrade Commander, it's my fault. I mainly saw that the enemy had rushed to a few hundred meters away from the command center, and Colonel Lyudnikov had to take the overall situation and could not leave, so he took his troops to block the enemy. I promise you that similar things would never happen again in the future."
Hearing Sokov's assurance to him, Cuikov shook his head with a wry smile. He knew Sokov's personality very well. If he encountered a similar situation next time, he would definitely rush forward without hesitation. He held the microphone and thought for a while, then finally made up his mind and said to the microphone: "Col. Sokov, I think from the overall situation, you should go back to Mamayev's hill. The role you play there is far greater than staying in the barricade factory."
"What, let me go back to Mamayev's hill?" Sokov didn't expect Cuikov to say this suddenly, and he was stunned: "Comrade Commander, why?"
"This is a decision made by the military committee member of the group army." Cui Kefu gritted his teeth and continued: "As a subordinate, you have no right to discuss orders, you can only obey unconditionally. Do you understand?"
Sokov knew very well that the reason why Cui Kov suddenly issued such an order was entirely out of his love for himself. Although he was unwilling to leave the barricade factory at this moment, considering that if he disobeyed, Cui Kov would not be able to get out of Taiwan, he could only say with a stingy blow: "Yes, Comrade Commander, I will return to Mamayevgang as soon as possible."
"When are you going to go back to Mamayevgang?" Cui Kev asked relentlessly.
"I want to stay for another two days." Sokov thought that he had a lot of things to deal with, and he could not leave just by saying that he could leave. He had to go back to Mamayev's club with confidence, so he asked Cuikov tentatively: "Is it OK?"
"No." Cuikov said in an unquestionable tone: "After dark tonight, you must return to Mamayev's hill."
"Okay, Comrade Commander." Seeing that Cui Kov's attitude was so tough, Sokov could not refute, so he could only answer with a bitter face: "I obey your orders and return to Mamayev's hill immediately after it dark."
