Chapter 299 Night raid stronghold

Late at night, everything fell into a deep sleep, and the thick ink covered the entire sky. The moon quietly hid in the clouds from time to time, and the dim light sprinkled on the earth intermittently.

The stars that used to flash in the sky have now completely lost their traces. They seemed to be scared by the fire of the day and were all hiding in an unknown corner.

In the Japanese stronghold outside the Drum Tower, two bonfires flashed with golden red light in the quiet dark night. The tongues of fire were beating, happily licking the piles of firewood, occasionally making a crackling or two crisp sounds.

More than a dozen Japanese soldiers sat lazily beside the fire, some lowered their heads and napped, while others were whispering in groups of three or three.

Next to the two bonfires, there are several Type 38 rifles that are mounted upwards, relying on each other on bayonet seats, forming the shape of flowers.

In addition to these lazy soldiers, more Japanese soldiers were sleeping soundly in the small wooden building on the second floor and the marching tent beside the building.

In a large room on the right side of the first floor of the wooden building, several Japanese correspondents were staring at the radio station in front of them with bloodshot eyes. The dim lights in the room were covered with oil cloth temporarily stuck to the windows. If you don't look close, it's hard to find that the lights are still on in the room.

Because the Chinese Air Force did not have air supremacy, the Japanese troops camped here were not worried about being suddenly attacked from the night sky. Compared to being bombs falling from the sky, they were more worried about the Chinese infantry who could emerge from the boundless darkness at any time and sent warm greetings with cluster grenades and bayonets.

Therefore, outside the wooden fence of the stronghold and on several trucks acting as walls, the Japanese army set up hidden secret sentries. These secret sentries were cooperated with several sentries standing behind the machine gun bunker at the stronghold's gate to be wary of any suspicious movements in the dark.

As it turns out, the Japanese army's concerns in the stronghold were not redundant. Just in the bushes just hundreds of meters away from the stronghold, a company of Chinese soldiers were quietly waiting for the order to be issued.

An hour ago, the secret service battalion that successfully escorted the 74th Army Transportation Team to the 57th Division's garrison and quietly set off, gradually approaching the Japanese stronghold they had just discovered in the evening with slow but absolutely quiet movements.

It is definitely a bold and even crazy idea to attack at least two squads of garrison with a company of troops. It is a difficult and even a bit crazy idea to park Japanese strongholds with tanks and trucks. Except for some senior generals sitting a hundred miles away from the battlefield, few national commanders would make such a decision, especially grassroots commanders who struggled on the front line.

Fortunately, under the cover of the darkness, the risk of fighting will be greatly reduced. Even if the Japanese army, who are not good at night, is attacked by sneak attacks, will never risk driving tanks and trucks to retreat at night, and will not take the initiative to pursue them without encountering serious crises.

It was confirmed that the Japanese tanks would not participate in the night battle, so after discussing with Hong Liang, Qi Heng boldly made the decision to attack the Japanese stronghold at night on the way back to the station.

According to the plan, the first company was divided into three parts to participate in the battle: Company commander Hong Liang led the first and second platoons to feint the gate of the Japanese stronghold from the front to restrain the firepower and attention of the Japanese army in the stronghold. Qi Heng personally led the third and fourth platoons to launch an attack from the side while taking advantage of the chaos, striving to rush into the Japanese stronghold as quickly as possible, destroying the tanks and trucks that the Japanese army parked in the stronghold.

In addition, each platoon has drawn a portion of capable veterans, with about one squad. Their mission is to touch the Japanese stronghold before the battle begins, attack sentries and lurk in the stronghold to support the attacking troops. If they are discovered, they will fire a gun to warn them as soon as possible, and the peripheral troops will immediately launch an attack.

The signal of the lurking veterans completing the task is very simple and crude: just detonate the cluster grenade you carry with you at a place you think is important. As long as the grenade is fired, Qi Heng and Hong Liang will immediately lead people to charge.

The flow rate of time is fixed, but the waiting time has become very long in the hearts of the officers and soldiers of the first company.

Just as everyone was looking forward to it, a huge shiny fireball exploded from the Japanese stronghold not far away, followed by a burst of rapid machine gun shooting.

"superior!"

Qi Heng and Hong Liang issued orders almost at the same time.

...

A few minutes ago, veteran Li Changsheng sacked his power and finally climbed to a Japanese truck. As long as he crossed the wooden fence half a man high, he could touch the truck's door.

In just a few hundred meters, Li Changsheng climbed for half an hour, and probably other comrades were the same. However, Li Changsheng was confident that the Japanese in the stronghold had never discovered him.

After resting in front of the fence for a while, Li Changsheng's right leg gently groped back to a support point, which should be a stone half buried in the ground. He gently exhaled the exhaust gas from his chest. Li Changsheng clenched the short knife in his hand, and just as he was about to exert force, a light sound suddenly came from the truck in front of him.

"Click."

The sound was very light, but Li Changsheng, who was just a short distance away, was very obvious in his ears. This should be the sound of the Japanese leather boots with steel plates stepping on something hard to the sole.

"Someone!"

Li Changsheng's heart tightened, and his right leg, which had already secretly exerted his strength, had re-exerted.

He looked up gently and the Japanese truck was blocking Li Changsheng like a dead steel monster. If he didn't get rid of the Japanese in the truck, he would have no other way to get into the Japanese camp.

Li Changsheng was worried about how to do it. The Japanese in the car seemed to have read his wishes and jumped out of the car. This scared Li Changsheng to death. His left finger had unconsciously hooked the grenade tied to the body.

"If the Japanese find me, I will just pull the grenades, and at least I can replace the Japanese truck."

Li Changsheng thought.

Fortunately, the Japanese did not move towards Li Changsheng, but walked towards the inside of the camp, while walking and muttering something.

"Fight!"

Li Changsheng gritted his teeth, stood up, climbed over the wooden fence as fast as possible, and hid in the shadow of the rear wheel of the truck.

Less than a minute after Li Changsheng hid his body, another Japanese man walked out of the camp with a rifle on his back and walked straight towards the truck where Li Changsheng was hiding.

As the footsteps of the cowhide military boots got closer, the short knife in Li Changsheng's hand became tighter and tighter.

The Japanese sentry who changed shift seemed to be in a good mood and was humming an unknown song, but Li Changsheng did not have the intention of listening to the Japanese singing songs, but instead held a short knife in his hand and silently considered the distance between the Japanese sentry.

Eight meters, six meters, four meters, two meters...

Finally, the Japanese sentry's footsteps stopped at the door of the back of the truck. He seemed to have noticed nothing unusual and was still humming the strange little song.

But just as Li Changsheng was about to breathe a sigh of relief, the Japanese sentry suddenly turned around and walked straight to the rear wheel of the truck where Li Changsheng was hiding!
