Chapter 50 Full Support

Deputy Director Wang’s request was obviously a deliberate difficulty. Director Yuan couldn’t stand it anymore. He proposed a compromise plan. In order to prevent the so-called technical risks, he suggested that Fang Hanmin first use the catalytic hydrogenation process to thoroughly reform a set of equipment in the second workshop. If it is successful, it will be promoted to all production lines in the entire workshop.

This is actually no different from the experiments Fang Hanmin once conducted directly in industrial equipment. Although Fang Hanmin felt that it was unnecessary and in order to block Deputy Director Wang's mouth, he had to accept this plan.

After the implementation plan was determined, the next step was to coordinate the relevant functional departments of the second workshop and the factory department. Director Yuan asked the leaders of the second workshop and the heads of the functional departments to fully cooperate with Fang Hanmin's work and not to have any shirking and procrastination.

The next morning, Fang Hanmin took Guo Peng, Xu Hui, Jiang Guoxin and Wan Cheng four assistants, as well as Jiao Tiehui and others to find the two leaders in the second workshop to do the docking work and refine the implementation plan in detail.

The second workshop office was not spacious enough, and six or seven people rushed in at once. The room suddenly seemed very crowded. The workshop director Lao Yang wanted to find a stool outside. Fang Hanmin was young and fast, and was very familiar with the situation here, "Director, I'll go!"

When Fang Hanmin was carrying two simple stools he had found from the work section and passed by the workshop attendant's office door, Xiao Min stopped him, "Scholar, oh no, Section Chief Fang, are you back?"

"Because of work, we have a meeting with the workshop leader. Yes, I may have to go back to the second workshop for a while. Xiao Min, are you okay?"

Xiao Min smiled and said, "I'm fine. There is no place for you to sit in the meeting. I have a chair in my office, which is the desk and chair you used before. I'll send it to you."

Fang Hanmin and others finally had a place to sit down. In order to show respect, he asked Lao Yang to speak first. The workshop director Lao Yang waved his hand, "We attended the meeting organized by the factory yesterday. There is nothing to say. Just like before, how do you need the workshop to cooperate? Just tell us directly."

Since Fang Hanmin has long been free from his temporary worker status and reputation, his current status and reputation are no longer the same as before. The workshop technician Lao Wu not only abandoned his contempt and prejudice, but also respected Fang Hanmin very much. "Section Chief Fang, we must strictly implement the factory's decisions and fully cooperate with your work. Just say how to cooperate in the workshop."

Fang Hanmin talked about his detailed plan, "In fact, this kind of working method is not uncommon in the second workshop. This is how the first two technical reforms were carried out. What I mean is to first determine a set of suitable equipment, and then we will work around this set of equipment. Two prerequisites for determining which set of equipment is suitable, one is to be closest to the process requirements, and the other is to try not to affect current normal production."

After clarifying this meaning, Lao Yang directly stated, "Hanmin, we don't understand your hydrogenation reduction process, and we don't know what equipment conditions meet the process requirements. You know all the situations in the second workshop. Which equipment meets two premises? Only you know. The choice of equipment is up to you. We can't make any better suggestions."

This is not the intentional shirk of the second workshop, because it is true. Fang Hanmin also knows that this is the truth of the two workshop leaders, but in the procedures, he must put them in front. If he announces his decision from the beginning, it is like he goes to the workshop to make trouble, which is like not taking the two grassroots leaders seriously. Fang Hanmin will not do that no matter what.

According to Fang Hanmin's proposal, the second workshop decided to separate the sixth production unit and the equipment numbered 0602 as a trial production equipment for the hydrogenation reduction process.

After two leaders of the second workshop took Fang Hanmin and his assistant to the on-site inspection, they explained to the team leader of the grassroots work section, requiring the grassroots staff to obey Fang Hanmin's command and actively cooperate with the work of the technical department.

According to the already drawn hydrogenation reduction process flow chart, starting from the next day, Fang Hanmin arranged more than a dozen test workers including Jiao Tiehui to adjust the equipment pipelines and construct.

According to Director Yuan’s instructions, during the adjustment of equipment pipelines, as long as the warehouse of Hongxing Pharmaceutical Factory is in stock, no matter which workshop it belongs, it must first meet the needs of Fang Hanmin’s working group. If the warehouses in the entire factory are not in stock, the supply department must purchase them as quickly as possible and shall not delay the construction progress.

The factory leaders and relevant functional departments supported the in-depth technical transformation of the second workshop with unprecedented attitude, and Fang Hanmin and his team were greatly encouraged. In early summer, the temperature during the day had reached 32 or 3 degrees. The equipment pipeline installation and construction personnel led by Jiao Tiehui were wearing work clothes and safety helmets, sweating profusely. Except for lunch time, they worked in the workshop all day, and no one complained.

After completing the preparation of the technical information of the hydrogen replenishment and reduction process, Fang Hanmin and several assistants did not sit in the office to control the command remotely, but under Fang Hanmin's personal leadership, they changed into work clothes, picked up tools, repaired equipment and installed pipelines with the workers.

Guo Peng and others began to misunderstand this. They thought they were technicians, and the maintenance of equipment and pipeline adjustments were the work of workers and had nothing to do with technicians.

Seeing Fang Hanmin rolling up his sleeves and starting to work without saying a word, Guo Peng, Xu Hui, Jiang Guoxin, Wan Cheng and others looked at each other. Since the leaders have all taken action personally, they will be bystanders without having to say anything, and they will feel sorry for it.

With the efforts of all the members of the team, the work efficiency has been continuously improved. It was planned that the equipment maintenance and reinstallation of the pipeline would take at least half a month to complete. As a result, it took them only ten days to complete the adjustment of the equipment pipeline according to the requirements of the new process, and even the system's pressure and leak test were completed.

All the raw materials were ready in advance, so Fang Hanmin decided to do a good job and immediately carry out a hydrogenation reduction reaction on the newly installed equipment.

Because hydrogen is a highly flammable and explosive gas, and is colorless and odorless, and is not easy to be discovered, although safety education was provided to the operators, before the formal feeding and testing, Fang Hanmin decided to take necessary leak prevention measures and once again emphasized the importance of safe production to the operators.

Everything was ready. After Fang Hanmin greeted the leaders of the second workshop and the relevant functional departments of the factory department, he started trial production of hydrogenation reduction on the new No. 0602 equipment.

With four assistants, Fang Hanmin went to the post to conduct demonstration operations personally. After the restoration reaction was officially started, he handed over the post to Jiao Tiehui, "Come and try it."

Seeing Jiao Tiehui skillfully adjusting various process parameters through different valves, Fang Hanmin asked: "Master Jiao, do you think this is different from the pilot operation?"

Jiao Tiehui replied while operating: "I don't think there is any difference. The only difference is that the equipment here is larger in size and the pilot equipment is smaller."

"How do you think the control of reaction conditions and parameter adjustment are convenient?"

"I think the control and adjustment here are more convenient, but the pilot device is not as convenient as here."

"Our current process is completely manual adjustment and control. When fully implemented in the second workshop in the future, if conditions permit, automatic control and automatic adjustment will be implemented." Fang Hanmin said ahead.

"Implementing automatic control and automatic adjustment is all handed over to the machine to operate. Wouldn't we operators be useless?" Jiao Tiehui considered it for a long time.

"Operators are still useful. Automatic control and automatic adjustment only reduces the labor intensity of workers, makes the control and adjustment of process conditions more accurate, and is conducive to improving product quality. By then, operators do not have to open and close the valves one by one, just sit in the control room to observe the instrument." Fang Hanmin explained.

"That's great! Now you only operate one equipment and don't feel tired. If each worker operates a few equipment in the actual production process in the future, his hands and feet will not be idle, and this job is indeed not easy."

"However, automatic control and automatic adjustment do not mean that the equipment site does not require human care, and regular patrols are also a task for the operator."

"Purchasing is always much easier than manual operation in person. As long as you have a sense of work responsibility, you won't treat patrol as much." ...

This conversation reminded Fang Hanmin of a question. The automatic control and automatic adjustment he mentioned inadvertently were only used in military fields such as aerospace, but in the 21st century, DCS (distributed control system) had been widely adopted in civilian fields such as oil refining, chemical, metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals, making great contributions to the improvement of labor productivity, reducing production costs, and improving the production environment.

In the future new process of the Second Workshop, should all operating units be implemented in distributed control? Can this idea be supported by factory leaders? Can domestic instruments and instruments meet the requirements of control accuracy? This series of problems has brought certain troubles to Fang Hanmin.

The benefits of distributed control systems (dcs) are obvious, but in the eyes of some conservatives, there are two problems. First, because dcs need to be configured with a large number of instruments, it will undoubtedly increase the investment in the project; in addition, using dcs control systems, the operators required will definitely be reduced, and how to place those reduced workers is also a big problem.

Fang Hanmin decided not to consider this matter for the time being. There must be a road before the car arrives at the mountain. He feels that there will be a plan with the best of both worlds at that time.

During the trial production period, Fang Hanmin asked several technicians, including himself, to stay at the production site so that they can deal with and answer practical problems encountered by operators at any time.

Ten hours after the hydrogenation reduction reaction was carried out, Fang Hanmin asked Jiao Tiehui to take samples and send them to the laboratory for testing. After half an hour, the laborator sent the test report.

The test results show that the selectivity of palladium carbon catalyst is very good. After ten hours of reduction reaction, the selectivity of the catalyst is still 100%.

Guo Peng and other technicians also surrounded him. After reading the test report, someone said, "The conversion rate is not as good as the results of the pilot."

Fang Hanmin was a little surprised, "Oh, how can I see it?"

"I remember that during the pilot period, after ten hours of hydrogenation reaction, the conversion rate reached 95%, which was only 90%. "Guo Peng said this, which shows that he was very attentive to his work.

Fang Hanmin said calmly: "This phenomenon can be reasonably explained. After all, the size of the equipment used in trial production is more than ten times larger than the pilot equipment. The uniformity of the mixing between the raw materials and the contact time cannot be exactly the same. In the trial production equipment, it is normal for the raw materials to be converted a little slower, but this does not mean that the palladium-carbon catalysts perform poorly here. After all, selectivity is the most important indicator, and the conversion rate can be improved by extending the reaction time."
