Chapter 970

According to the publicity of DreamWorks Animation Studio, "The Wandering of the Rat" is the crystallization of wisdom created by the strong team of "Monster Shrek" and "Madagascar", and will create a new art form that has not been involved in the field of animation.

Computer CG and clay animation are perfectly combined!

In the words of Jerever Carsonberg, he has not only charming story ideas and rich emotional watering, but also rich imagination and creativity, as well as top computer technology.

DreamWorks is ambitious and wants to turn "The Wandering of the Rat" into a new "Shrek Monster" series, even if it is not good, it will be a new "Madagascar".

The film introduces a world composed almost entirely of mice, just like human society, just like the ones walking there are mice.

The overall plot still follows the usual style of DreamWorks animation spoofs other movies, and the characters are exaggerated and realistic.

But the "Monster Shrek" series has already taken spoofs to the extreme, and spoofs are no longer a fresh element.

Moreover, DreamWorks introduced the British Ademan Studio as a partner in "The Wandering of the Rat Country". The promotional banner was computer animation, but in fact it was an animated feature film made of clay and computers.

To be honest, clay animation feature films are not likable.

Ronan couldn't understand why Jerever Carsonberg made such a bad choice with his many years of animation production experience?

If "The Wandering of the Rat Country" was a pure computer animation, it would definitely not look as awkward as it appears on the big screen. Even if it was as rough as the first part of "Shrek Monster", the effect would be ten times better.

It can only be said that Ademan Studio has invested a lot of money in this project.

As we all know, the most critical part of DreamWorks Animation Studio’s success today is the control of cost.

DreamWorks Animation Studio's past animation feature film projects, especially the first non-sequel, have basically produced a production budget of around 60 to 70 million US dollars.

This can effectively reduce investment risks and reduce the difficulty of capital recovery.

But since the success of the "Shrek Monster" series, Jerefer Carsonberg inevitably wants to compete with Pixar Studio, a recognized leader in the industry, and later formulated a number of animation productions with an investment of about $150 million.

This is also a major reason why Ronanken negotiated with DreamWorks to give up the release rights of DreamWorks Animation Studios in advance.

If DreamWorks Animation Studio insists on completing Jerefer Carsonberg's big investment and production plan, the next few years will be an extremely difficult time for DreamWorks Animation Studio.

To be honest, "The Wandering of the Rat Country" is not even worse than "The Monster Shrek 3", which achieved great success in the release of Embassy Pictures this summer.

The film is similar to other animated feature films, mainly inspirational and humorous as a supplement. Although the story takes place in the "Rat Country", try to make it true and credible.

The protagonist here is of course a mouse. This high-end pet rat who once lived in the upper class is actually very lonely. He lives alone in a huge manor, representing the highest consumption level in this country. He once thought that he was living the so-called "beautiful life".

But he had no family, no real friends, and had to talk to the toys or play games, just like a poor old man living in a lonely castle.

Since he has never been to the outside world, pet rats never yearn for it. He lives in a beautiful and colorful bubble... However, when he was washed into the sewer in London and brought to a completely different world, he finally realized how boring life was.

The story sets the usual Hollywood style.

Unfortunately, the form of clay combined with cg used in the movie is really not very good for the audience.

On the first day of its release in North America, "The Wandering of the Rat Country", which has entrusted many ambitions in DreamWorks, was silenced, and only earned $4.71 million in a single day. Not only did it not win the North American box office championship that day, it was also under the pressure of "Saw 4" in the second week of the release, which closed $6.71 million in a single day.

This weekend, the market was relatively deserted, and the films that were truly fiercely competing for the front end of the film market were "The Wandering of the Rat" released in the first week and "Saw 4" released in the next weekend.

The former was awarded on Saturday's holiday, and the box office soared that day, with a record of 7.42 million US dollars, he won the single-day box office championship from the latter.

But this is just a flash in the pan of "The Wandering in the Rat Country".

After the first weekend of November, "The Wandering of the Rat" only received $17.81 million in 3,890 theaters in North America. Compared with the production cost of up to $150 million, DreamWorks will never have a chance to make a profit.

This box office result can only make "The Wandering of the Rat Country" second in the box office rankings as soon as it starts.

"Saw 4" won the North American box office championship this weekend with US$18.91 million, achieving two consecutive North American box office championships in the "Saw" series for the first time.

With the gains from the previous four working days, this bloody horror film, released in North America for ten days, has accumulated a box office of US$58.99 million.

Although it is very difficult to get a box office of over 100 million in North America in the end, there is no problem with over 80 million US dollars.

Moreover, after another week of screening overseas, the global box office of the film has exceeded US$100 million.

Relying on box office alone, "Saw 4" has achieved huge profits.

Life in "The Wandering in the Country of Rat" is not so easy. What DreamWorks needs to do the most is to cut off their arm so that they can stop losses in time.

DreamWorks Animation Studio's first animated feature film left Relativity Entertainment, although it has only been released in North America for one weekend, both DreamWorks itself and other companies in the industry are very clear that "The Wandering of the Rat Country" has failed.

"Why is this happening?"

Glendale, in the office of DreamWorks Industrial Park, Spielberg looked at Jerefer Carsonberg with confusion: "Isn't this animated feature film created in the "Shrek Monster" model? And the investment is higher and the production is more well-produced, why does it fail?"

Jerefer Carsonberg is temporarily silent. "The Wandering of the Rat Country" has hit him very hard. Since the establishment of DreamWorks Animation Studio, the first top production involving a production scale of $150 million was involved, but it ended in failure...

Spielberg sighed softly and said nothing more. He could see that Katsenberg was very guilty of himself.

After a while, Jerefer Carsonberg slowly spoke: "Steven, I was responsible for the failure of the project "Rat Country Wandering" and made the wrong decision. I shouldn't have introduced Ademan Studio to use their clay animation technology in order to save $70 million in investment."

Hearing these words, Spielberg still had no intention of interrupting. After all, he agreed to the funds introduced to Ademan Studio.

The original consideration, working with Ademan Studio, can effectively reduce risks and allow animation feature films to integrate the strengths of the two companies.

Jerefer Carsonberg continued: "I only considered reducing investment risks and ignored market research. The results after the release of "The Wandering of the Rat Country" show that the audience is quite resistant to clay animation movies..."

Spielberg nodded slightly and said, "The expression form of clay animation is indeed not suitable for the large-scale animation film market, and the subsequent contract with Ademan Studio?"

Jerefer Carsonberg has enough decision: "I have called out all cooperation with Ademan Studio. DreamWorks Animation Studio will no longer cooperate with Ademan Studio. The remaining planned animation film projects will completely abandon clay animation technology."

"You are more professional than me in animation production." Spielberg said sincerely: "Jerryfer, it's up to you to decide on this."

Katsenberg said: "Don't worry, Steven. I will never allow DreamWorks Animation Studio to appear for a second time with such failure."

Spielberg sighed softly and said, "I always believe in the strength of DreamWorks Animation Studio."

"I don't know why, I feel uneasy." Jerever Carsonberg suddenly said: "Dreamworks Animation Studio has been working with Relativity Entertainment. The Monster Shrek series, Shark Gang and Madagascar have all achieved great success, but after leaving Relativity Entertainment, the first film failed."

As soon as these words were said, Spielberg's face changed instantly, and he couldn't help but think a little more: Is Katzenberg accusing DreamWorks of any problems with its publicity and distribution capabilities?

Jerever Carsonberg saw the change in Spielberg's face, and immediately guessed that he had misunderstood his meaning, and quickly explained: "Steven, I have no other meaning."

The balance of power between the two giants of DreamWorks is actually very fragile. Katzenberg doesn't want to easily break this hard-earned balance: "I just want Ronan Anderson to end his cooperation with DreamWorks Animation Studio in advance. Is it because the subsequent animation projects have problems and risks that I don't understand?"

Spielberg thought carefully for a while: "With my forty years of experience, no one, including investors, directors and producers, can clearly determine the prospects of most film projects. Perhaps the projects of DreamWorks Animation Studios are indeed risky, but which film will be less risky?"

Jerefer Carsonberg's confidence was made up with one successful animated feature film after another, including too many famous works and too many movies in the history of celebrity films.

These words soon made Jerefer Carsonberg abandon that little doubt. Since DreamWorks Animation Studio's plan has been formulated, it must be implemented unswervingly and at most appropriate adjustments are made.
