Chapter 911 Lies
The bombing of the US military did not happen, although the 1st Infantry Regiment arrived at the second line of defense only two hours after dawn.
On the one hand, the US military is not very interested in infantry even in transporting infantry in cars.
In fact, it cannot be said that they are not interested, but the cost-effectiveness of bombing to infantry is very low... Infantry will see bombers flying towards them from a distance, and then get off the car and scatter to find a place to hide.
Therefore, for such a goal, it often consumes a lot of ammunition but has almost no results, except for a few worthless cars.
And the armored troops are another matter. The bulky tanks and armored vehicles will be waving to the pilots in the sky like targets.
On the other hand, there was something wrong with the Allies.
The US military's advance on the battlefield made the British army very unhappy, to be precise, it made Charles de Gaulle feel threatened... because the US military was about to pick the fruits of victory and march into Paris, and who liberated Paris first was almost a symbol for the French troops, a symbol of seizing dominance.
Therefore, Charles de Gaulle made some tricks in this regard, or it could be said to be a strategy.
First, he asked the battle led by Leclerc to head toward the 2nd French Armored Division ten kilometers south of Classe.
The 2nd Armored Division went here not to clear out the remaining Germans, nor did it fight with the Germans... The German retreat was planned, so it was completely withdrawn.
The 2nd French Armored Division, after arriving here, dispersed everywhere, then pretended to be a tank failure or a crater, blocked the road and caused traffic jam.
This section of the road is the only way for the transportation and supply of the US 3rd Army led by Patton, which has basically stopped the logistics transportation of the 3rd Army.
This made Patton furious. He called Eisenhower and cursed angrily: "Ike, I know they did it on purpose, it must be on purpose! Do you know what they are doing? They put the entire 3rd Army in danger for their own interests. We were about to kick the enemy's butt. They defeated our regiment last night, but now we have to stop because we have no fuel and ammunition! It's ridiculous. We were not defeated by the enemy, but we were going to defeat our own people. What's more ironic is that they were driving American tanks... American tanks, they blocked the American army's way with American tanks!"
This is a fact. Because the British tanks performed poorly, most of the French 2nd Armored Division equipped with American reinforcements were tanks.
Although Eisenhower knew that this was very likely to be intentional by the British or French as Patton said, he certainly could not answer this way, as the commander-in-chief of the Allied Forces.
"No, Joe!" said Eisenhower. "You know, the road conditions have been bad, and it's just a coincidence that the French Armored Division would be there, and you shouldn't think so. I'll let them change it all!"
But in fact, Eisenhower had a hard time changing this situation because the French had a good excuse.
"General!" said Leclerc, "We can't drive tanks to the side of the road and let the cars pass first. Those cars are endless, so we can never drive to the front line to fight the enemy. We have tanks and armored vehicles, generals, and highly trained and extremely brave warriors. We should use them and put them into the place where we fight the enemy as soon as possible!"
So Eisenhower had no choice but to make a pity that the transport team could only advance in the back of the French Armored Division or through the cracks, so that Patton had no ability to pursue the 1st Infantry Regiment and the 275th Infantry Division at all.
In fact, this is quite lucky. If the German army knew about this, they would organize several armored troops to counterattack Patton's 3rd Army at this critical moment, then Patton would probably capsize here.
But just this is far from enough.
Because the US military may still point directly to Paris and occupy Paris... The German army has withdrawn from Paris in batches, with only a few security forces and engineers left there to do some final work.
Hitler's order was to put the whole of Paris in the sea of fire, and if he could not get Paris, no one could get it.
However, the German officer who performed this mission later disobeyed the order and did not order blasting or setting fire.
Of course, this is a later story.
The British had this information and knew very well that if the US troops attacked Paris, they could occupy Paris without any effort and become France's greatest liberator even if supplies were limited.
In fact, General Patton planned exactly that.
He even teased Eisenhower on the phone: "Do we want to drive the abominable British and French to the beach like the Germans did before?"
General Patton refers to the Great Retreat of Dunkirk in England and France. After the US occupied Paris, he could indeed drive the British and French coalition forces to Dunkirk again as the German army did before.
"And this time!" Patton said with a smile: "I will not make such mistakes as the Germans!"
Patton has always been unstoppable and the jokes he tells are inappropriate.
This made Eisenhower frown.
"Be careful of your words, Joe!" Eisenhower reminded: "If it spreads, you are afraid that you will be on the headlines of the newspaper again because of this sentence!"
"Oh, let them do it!" Barton replied indifferently.
In fact, Patton still cares in his heart, because he is a warlike person, he likes to stay on the battlefield and command the troops to charge.
So, even if he knew that Bradley had plagiarized his offensive plan, he didn't care, he just had to fight.
But just as Patton was commanding his troops to advance towards Paris, the British Intelligence Agency sent a piece of intelligence to General Bradley: "We got intelligence from the guerrillas. The Germans still had at least two armored divisions in Paris!"
General Bradley believed in this.
He always believed in the combat style of "stop when there is doubt" and immediately contacted Patton.
"We should stop moving forward!" Bradley ordered as the commander of the army group: "We have information. There are at least two armored divisions in Paris, and we have insufficient fuel and shells. We should make more preparations and wait until the French 2nd Armored Division follows before launching an attack on Paris!"
"No, General!" Patton protested: "This is a lie, my intuition tells me that the enemy will not be stationed in Paris!"
"Your intuition?" said General Bradley: "Do you think I will trust intuition or intelligence? I will not put our troops in danger because of your intuition! I order you to stop moving forward!"
