Chapter 592: Knight's Honor (2)
Alfonso walked to the top of the mountain alone, and only greeted him with the undissipated smoke and dust and silent silence.
When he walked to the enemy's defense line, there were chaotic footsteps and speeches coming from the enemy's camp.
An old man with white hair and beard, wearing a set of spotless armor, walked out of the trench with the help of the soldiers.
Several church knights climbed out of the trench, trying to keep up with the old man and escorted him down the mountain.
The old man turned around and scolded him a few words, and the church knights knelt on one knee on the ground and never dared to move a single moment.
Seeing the old man walking towards him on the mountain, Alfonso took a deep breath and his hands were unconsciously held together.
After the old man walked up to him, Alfonso took off his helmet and respectfully gave a knight salute to the old man.
After finding a clean floor, the old man sat down with difficulty. While pounding his waist and back with his hands, he looked at the twisted and stretched parasite limbs in Alfonso's armor, and said in a playful tone: "Look at yourself, you are no different from the demons in the mural."
After pausing for a moment, the old man said complainingly: "In this way, I used the firearms of the southern pagans, and there seemed to be no reason to blame you."
Alfonso straightened his back: "As a knight, it doesn't matter what kind of weapons you use and what kind of armor you wear. What's important is whether your actions are upholding justice and whether you are following the knight's oath."
The old man was stunned and then smiled and said, "This sounds interesting."
Alfonso took out his letter from his arms: "Mr. Bromo Hershmond, this is my superior, Lord Cumberland, whom I want me to pass it to you."
Bromo did not rush to get the letter and asked, "Why are you here today? Why didn't I see the stubborn donkey?"
Alfonso replied: "Mr. Cumberland has been staying in the command since the beginning of the battle yesterday, reading and analyzing the combat reports submitted by the various troops."
"After comparing and checking, we found that most of the remaining military strongholds in the Pope's State were infantry, while the main cavalry of the three major churches disappeared."
"Mr. Cumberland speculates that you must have kept a hand when you first formulated the combat plan. These fortifications built in the forest are just a guise of confusing the public, and the real main force must be your cavalry regiment. After all..."
Bromo took Alfonso's head and said softly: "Observation is the best defense. Always remember to take the initiative in your own hands."
The old man closed his eyes and smiled self-deprecatingly: "No, it's rare that you still remember what I taught."
Alfonso handed the letter to Bromo again, and said in a stressful tone: "Sir, please read this letter."
Bromo took the letter, opened it and took a rough look, then put it aside, and asked with a funny look: "Pussal to surrender? Is that stubborn donkey serious?"
Alfonso nodded and said, "Mr. Cumberland really hopes that you can come to Musi City and see at least as a visitor to see what the real kingdom of heaven looks like."
"You are not an excellent lobbyist." Bromo rubbed his stiff knees: "When I was in the academy, the comment I gave you was that I was too straight and didn't know how to adapt..."
Alfonso said firmly: "Sir, what I said is true. If you don't believe it, as long as you go to Muxi City to touch the pilgrimage stone, the facts will prove everything..."
Bromo reached out to interrupt Alfonso: "No need to say more."
"You think I'm lying?"
"You can't learn to lie, just like that stubborn donkey, you will never learn to be modest..."
"Then why don't you want to go to Muxi..."
Bromo suddenly laughed.
The old man pointed to the black dragon badge on Alfonso's chest and asked, "That dragon god... Todd Fischer, do you believe him?"
Alfonso nodded: "I followed that person all the way, and no one knew his true nature better than me."
Bromo said with relief: "That's good. As a knight, the most painful thing is to question the path you chose."
"As I said in the classroom in the past, the honor of a knight is not a simple motto, it must be placed in pure pursuits and ideals."
"For example, seeking a virtuous lord who can calm the chaos, or serving a kind and loving god." Bromo said with a smile: "The knight is not a thug of the dictator, nor is it an accomplice of the ambitious."
"At the beginning, among the many students, you and the stubborn donkey were both objects of my dislike. You were too bound by dogma, and Cumberland looked down on worldly justice too much. I was worried that you would stick to the Knight's principles and do not understand the true meaning of it; I was also worried that Cumberland was addicted to fighting and power struggle, and completely forgot that original intention."
Bromo touched his gray and curled beard and slowly said, "Fortunately, you all have found the goal you have pursued for life."
Alfonso took a step forward and asked in a deep voice: "Are you still trusting the church now?"
"I believe those idiots hiding in the church and shouting at the agency divine power every day?" Bromo shook his head: "I am indeed old, but I am not dementia yet."
"Then why did you agree to the request of the church to lead troops? Why did you help them to harm the Protestant believers? Why would you not go back to Muxi City with me to see the true kingdom of heaven?"
Bromo sighed softly: "Because there is a god in my heart. You can call him the Father of Heaven or God. In my opinion, he is the driving force for my life and my support for cleaning my soul."
Alfonso's face showed an incomprehensible confusion: "Sir, I don't understand. As long as you go to Muxi City to see the kingdom of heaven, you will naturally understand that other gods are illusory..."
"The older you live, the more you fear change. When one of your feet has stepped into the coffin, someone tells you that the things you have been believing in throughout your life may be a scam, and all you can do is extreme denial and self-hypnosis."
Bromo slowed down his speech: "It's like a craftsman who spent his whole life to carve a statue of God quickly. Someone suddenly told him that God didn't look that way at all. But in the heart of the craftsman, God's appearance is no longer important."
Bromo picked up Cumberland's letter and put it in his arms. He said to Alfonso, who was still immersed in thinking: "Go back and tell the stubborn donkey, never forget what I said in the last lesson of the Knights Academy. The honor of the Knights has never been a victory on the battlefield, nor is it a false affirmation and praise from the superiors, but whether everything you do can bring the final peace of your soul."
Bromo forced himself to hold up, stood up from the ground tremblingly, and walked towards the top of the mountain without looking back.
