Chapter 88 Modular Design

Zhao Ye finished arranging the photolithography machine and then devoted himself to the design of the core functions of the processor again.

Regarding this matter, Professor Ci and the other three professors have been making up a lot of extra classes during this period.

Not just the three of them, but behind them is a huge support team. To put it bluntly, the three of them are just coordinating and organizing the work, and of course planning and leading the entire design.

Many outstanding students and professors from the electrical, electronics, and mathematics departments of the two schools are contributing to this design effort.

Zhao Ye was so excited when he heard this summary. He and three professors spent five or six days together to plan out the architecture and basic logic design of the entire processor. The next step is to design the entire processor according to different requirements.

Set the instruction set, study different mathematical models, and then restore these mathematical models into circuit designs.

Try to use the simplest mathematical models and circuits to realize the idea proposed by Zhao Ye and others.

Time was tight and the task was heavy. After completing the preliminary work with Zhao Ye, the three professors also left here and went to the school to organize this integrated circuit design competition.

After Zhao Ye solved this problem, he immediately devoted himself to other work. In this project, he was like a firefighter. Whenever there was a problem, he had to step in. This was not the case.

The solution is for those who can do the hard work.

Besides, this was the first time for others to do something like this. Zhao Ye was the chief designer and had successful experience, so everyone subconsciously piled some problems on him.

When the supervisor encountered problems with input and coding, Zhao Ye asked them not to do it behind closed doors, but to mobilize literature teachers and students in the university as much as possible to do more repetitive work.

For example, the coding work of the glyph library simply involves giving hundreds of students a manuscript paper printed with a ten-by-ten square grid, and then asking them to use pencils to color in the grid to form Chinese characters one by one.

Each person is responsible for hundreds of such glyph designs. After they are finished, they have to check and modify each other to try to design the glyphs more reasonably.

The same pattern applies to basic commonly used characters. Teachers and students in the Department of Literature are asked to classify Chinese characters. Commonly used characters are coded first, and they are classified and coded level by level.

I also asked someone to make a model of the input keyboard and study the layout bit by bit.

The display equipment group also has constant problems. The backplane, liquid crystal panel, and polarizing plate all have to use glass, which also involves the technical difficulty of carving circuits on the glass. Zhao Ye directly came up with a mature technical solution in this regard. This

The solution may not be advanced enough, may have a low yield, and may be extremely consuming of materials and labor. But this is a mature solution, and it is also the solution most suitable for this era.

As the 718 factory came up with suitable glass plates, the chemical laboratory came up with suitable liquid crystal materials, and the 611 institute produced usable storage equipment. The progress of the entire display screen was ahead of the other groups.

At the beginning of the design, Zhao Ye's goal was only to achieve a display screen of one hundred square centimeters, which would be almost usable. However, after Factory 718 received Zhao Ye's process plan, the technical staff did not completely stick to that design.

On this basis, more demanding experiments were carried out, and 25 cm long and 20 cm wide thin glass plates, polarizing plates and other products were successfully manufactured. This also gave Zhao Ye the opportunity to manufacture larger displays.

condition.

Don’t have too high requirements for resolution. The current dot matrix display can achieve one hundred dots per square centimeter, which is the limit of this era. In this way, there are still several key processes that have not been successfully tested.

Woolen cloth.

A larger screen corresponds to more complex circuit printing, larger display cache, and more complex display chip production.

Zhao Ye couldn't make up his mind for a while, but Professor Chen, who was in charge of this research work, suggested that the current ten-by-ten screens are the main ones. If the research and development of larger screens can keep up with the project progress, then they will be replaced by larger screens.

Okay.

The words woke up the dreamer, and Zhao Ye immediately adopted this suggestion. Not only that, it also reminded him of an issue he had ignored before.

Motherboard!

At this time, Zhao Ye had not yet proposed the concept of motherboard, and no one had this understanding either. All systems and components are directly welded together. If you want to replace any components in the future, you can only dismantle them and re-solder them.

.

It not only affects efficiency, but also increases risks, and is not conducive to product upgrading.

Zhao Ye is determined to make up for this loophole, and it is not too late.

So, with the help of the mental space, Zhao Ye sent each group a copy of the subsystem standard interface design specification in less than two days. For the design of the display circuit, they were required to be based on the main system.

In the interaction, what kind of interface circuit should be designed.

What kind of interface circuit planning is required for the memory, what kind of interface circuit planning is required for the processor, and the same is true for input devices.

Zhao Ye thought for a while, should he reserve interfaces for things he would use in the future? For example, sound!

But thinking about it carefully, I didn’t do that.

Today's motherboards should not be designed to be so complicated. It's simple, the team has no experience!

When this project is over and everyone has corresponding design experience, it will not be too late to put forward more complex usage requirements. After all, he only used this as a scientific calculator at the beginning.

Zhao Ye's request didn't arouse much thought after it was issued. It was just a standard, and there was nothing that required special ideas. Mainly, it did not conflict with the current circuit design work. Just pay a little attention to certain places.

Just drop it.

No one expected what role their design would play in the future.

As time passed, the design work of each subsystem was carried out in an orderly manner. After everyone got over the initial confusion, the work became more and more comfortable.

The circuit of the display system was first designed and completed. This itself is not too complicated, and Zhao Ye did not pursue too much in terms of space. It is just a matter of replacing a "graphics card" in the future. This does not need to be too harsh.

It's just that the current "graphics card" basically corresponds to the display screen one-to-one. That is to say, which type of display screen corresponds to which model of "graphics card". For example, the current "graphics card",

It only corresponds to the ten-by-ten display screen that will be used. If it changes to another type, the "graphics card" will have to be redesigned.

The "graphics card" has been made, but it cannot be tested yet because the screen has not yet been made. The display screen is currently stuck in the injection of liquid crystal and the circuit printing of the glass plate. Zhao Ye did not interfere too much and asked Professor Chen to take the lead.

A group of people were there pulling their hair.

Zhao Ye believed that these people would be able to find a way, and he had no doubt about it.

He has more important work to do now, because all the components of the lithography machine have been assembled. Now he is gathering more than a dozen experts to assemble this real lithography machine.
