Those Things in the Ming Dynasty Part 4 Whitewashing the Peace _ Chapter 13 The First Staff in the World

Peerless expert

What Hu Zongxian is looking for is not a monk who can fight. A master of martial arts can fight in a group, but he is just a useless piece of wood on a battlefield with thousands of troops. Only generals who can strategize can solve the fundamental problem for him.

Fortunately, he found the first candidate without much effort.

Before Hu Zongxian came, Yu Dayou had been fighting alone for a long time.

Yu Dayou was born in Jinjiang, Fujian Province in the 17th year of Hongzhi (1504), and his family was relatively poor.

But he was quite lucky. His ancestors were hereditary members of the Hundred Households. Although he was not a high official, he still had enough to eat. After his father died, he inherited the title of Hundred Households. In the fourteenth year of Jiajing (1535), Yu Dayou went a step further.

He won the first place in the martial arts examination, became a member of the Qianhu family, and was assigned to garrison Kinmen.

Comrade Yu Dayou's early experience was like this. It seemed to be nothing special. However, this was just a superficial phenomenon. In fact, this man was an extraordinary expert.

There are many historical materials used in this article, and the sources are complex, including more than a dozen Ming and Qing dynasty engravings. In order not to affect reading, and because I am a lazy person, the source of the historical materials and the original text of the historical records are not indicated in the article, but an exception must be made here, because the following

What I am about to describe is too bizarre. If I don’t cite actual evidence, I will probably avoid being accused of deception, so the text is as follows:

"I heard in the past that there was a fencing technique taught by a god in the Shaolin Temple in Henan. I then returned from the clouds and took the road to the temple. The monk boasted that there were more than a thousand people who had mastered his skills, so he came out to show them. I thought that his skills had lost the true secrets of the ancients.

He told all the monks, "I would like to be taught." I said, "This will only take time to achieve.""

It doesn't matter if you don't understand, I'll explain.

The meaning of this passage is that I heard that the Shaolin Temple in Henan has excellent martial arts, so I went to visit it. The monks in the temple told me very arrogantly that the monks here were very skilled in martial arts, and there were many of them, and they even put on several performances.

Show me.

After I saw it, I felt that these people really didn't live up to expectations and had lost all the true traditions of their ancestors, so I clearly told the monks that your style is no longer good and you should go and cool off as soon as possible. The monks said to me very humbly: I am willing.

Accept your advice. And I told them very arrogantly: You will have to practice for a long time.

I solemnly declare that these words are not what I said. If you want to find someone to settle accounts, please go to Comrade Yu Dayou. It has nothing to do with me, because this article comes from Comrade Yu Dayou's autobiography collection.

Although I don't want to help Yu Dayou take the blame, I can prove one thing for him, that is, Mr. Yu is indeed an extremely skilled martial artist.

Since his childhood, Yu Dayou has been a special person. Like many successful people, he likes to read, but what he reads is not the examination books such as college and the Golden mean, but a peculiar book - "The Book of Changes".

As for this book, it can be regarded as a panacea. From this book, you can deduce everything from extraterrestrial creatures and extraterrestrial visitors to world civilization and the future of mankind. Anyway, just read it as you like.

Yu Dayou is a member of the "Book of Changes" Interpretation School. He studied hard for many years and finally realized something. Fortunately, this brother did not go crazy and set up a fortune-telling stall, but he still understood something famous - the art of war.

From the "Book of Changes", Yu Dayou understood the so-called "Million-in-One" art of war (although millions can be combined into one person). Although it sounds rather mysterious, judging from the subsequent actual effects, this theory is quite

It's not all deception.

In addition to the art of war, Yu Dayou's achievements in another field of work are astonishing, that is martial arts. He once became a disciple of Li Liangqin, a martial arts master at the time, and learned swordsmanship and stick skills. His talent was extremely high, and he studied hard and practiced hard. The martial arts are very exquisite.

Especially in swordsmanship, he is very good at using the "Jingchu Long Sword". It is said that his swordsmanship has reached an advanced level. Dozens of people once disliked him and planned to beat him up, but he was beaten to a pulp and lost their way. escape.

Brother Yu was not only excellent in martial arts, he was also good at summarizing experience. He once wrote a martial arts monograph "The Book of Swords". Later, while eradicating Japanese pirates, he also wandered around the world and repeatedly fought swordsmanship with others. In the process of hacking and killing, He continued to hone his swordsmanship. In the 40th year of Jiajing (1561), he probably beat everyone around him. This man felt that it was boring, so he ran outside to find someone to fight. The aforementioned Shaolin Temple incident happened during this period. within time.

Obviously, in this self-narration, Yu Dayou deliberately ignored an important content. You must know that although Shaolin monks are vegetarians, they are not easy to bully. You Yu Dayou ran so far, and someone showed you martial arts, but you still said that they are not good. In one sentence , you are just here to cause trouble.

Although Yu Dayou did not write it, we have reason to believe that he caused trouble in the Shaolin Temple. Even if he did not use a knife or a gun, he at least showed his hands. Otherwise, why would others say: "I would like to be enlightened."

It is estimated that Comrade Yu Dayou is still a little awakened and feels that what he is doing is not authentic, so he does not mention it much. However, judging from his tone of asking people to practice for a few more years, he is not a fuel-saving lamp.

Yu Daxia has fought all over the world with his sword and traveled across the rivers and lakes. He has unlimited glory. However, before meeting Hu Zongxian, as an extremely talented military genius, his experience can only be summarized in one word - dumbfounding.

Yu Dayou was very depressed in the first forty years of his life because he liked to meddle in other people's business. When he was guarding the Golden Gate, he wrote to the Supervisor and asked to crack down on pirates, but he was beaten up and received a reply from his superiors:

"You're such a big-ass little official, why should you submit a letter?"

Why can't a junior official submit a letter? Yu Dayou doesn't understand.

After receiving this inexplicable beating, Yu Dayou still went his own way.

Soon after, there was a rebellion in the Annan region, and Mao Bowen, the Minister of War, was preparing to go to war. It was said that this matter had nothing to do with him, but Yu Dayou stepped forward again to intervene.

He wrote to Mao Bowen, stating his military plan and requesting to join the army.

Lord Shangshu saw his letter and appreciated it very much. He praised him but did not use him.

You praised me, why don’t you use me? Yu Dayou still doesn’t understand.

This is another inexplicable thing, but Yu Dayou is still not discouraged.

In the 21st year of Jiajing (1542), the opportunity came again. Anda attacked Shanxi, and the emperor ordered a nationwide selection of combat talents. Yu Dayou signed up. This time, his luck seemed good. Mao Shangshu saw his name and sent him to Recommended to Zhai Peng, Governor of Xuanda.

This is a very important recommendation. The so-called Governor Xuanda was one of the two highest officials in the border areas of the Ming Dynasty (the other was the Governor Ji Liao). They were usually ministerial-level officials. As a person recommended by the Minister of War, Yu Dayou has a bright future. Shine light.

After all, it was because of the leader of the Ministry of War that Zhai Peng personally met with Yu Dayou and casually asked him some military questions. The result surprised him.

Zhai Peng originally thought that this person was a well-connected person and did not have much ability, so he planned to deal with it, but Yu Daxia turned away from the customer and started talking, and everyone in the hall was shocked.

Just when everyone was stunned, something even more surprising happened. Governor Zhai actually left his seat, took the initiative to step down from the stage, and saluted Yu Dayou.

This is absolutely explosive news, a sight that is rare to see in a century.

Zhai Peng is not a military commander, he is a civilian official, because according to the practice of the Ming Dynasty, except for a few exceptions, only civilian officials can serve as senior military officers. Even if they are of the same rank, the status of civilian officials is higher than that of military commanders. In the eyes of many literary scholars, military commanders They are all a bunch of rough guys who have never read a book, and Wu Jinshi is no exception.

However, Zhai Peng, the ministerial governor, saluted the unknown junior Yu Dayou in front of him because of his talent, learning and perseverance.

It is said that when things come to this point, Hero Yu should turn around, but the most incredible thing happened here.

Although the Governor saluted him, and although the Governor knew his talent and learning, he still did not use him!

After all this, why don't you use me? Yu Dayou scratched his head and didn't understand (me too).

The depressing days passed, and his old superior Mao Bowen finally promoted him and sent him to Fujian to fight pirates. Without saying a word, this brother personally led the troops into battle without changing his clothes when he arrived, and killed more than 300 opponents. , his superiors saw how fierce he was and sent him to Guangdong to suppress the minority rebellion.

In Guangdong, Yu Dayou showed his true qualities for the first time in all aspects. He did not mobilize a large army to attack, but only brought a few followers with him to find the rebels' lair and persuade them to submit to the imperial court.

Of course, it is useless to talk in plain words, and the rebels are not idiots. In order to strengthen the effectiveness of persuasion and education and vividly show the consequences of not surrendering, Daxia Yu took advantage of the opportunity to perform his old skill on the spot - swordsmanship. The tigers and tigers were so powerful and powerful that they frightened the rebel brothers for a while, and in the end they even called it a fencing lesson.

The rebels were not intimidated. They quickly introduced their spiritual leader, a man who was said to have killed a tiger, and continued to resist the Ming army.

But Yu Daxia was obviously more powerful than the tiger. He killed the tiger-fighting hero without much effort and finally put down the rebellion.

After much tossing and tossing, Yu Daxia finally turned around. In the 31st year of Jiajing (1542), Yu Dayou was transferred to Ningbo Staff General, and soon after he was promoted to Deputy Chief Su Song (equivalent to deputy commander of the military division).

At this time, Zhang Jing had already taken office, and Yu Dayou was his subordinate.

Then there were the things mentioned before. Zhao Wenhua made trouble and urged Zhang Jing to go to war. Zhang Jing was not prepared and was unwilling to go to war, so he delayed it again and again.

However, behind this scene, there is another detail hidden:

Zhang Jing refused to go to war, but in order to give Zhao Wenhua face, he ordered another general to attack the Japanese pirates, and this man was Yu Dayou.

Unexpectedly, Yu Dayou, who had always been proactive and nosy, refused. The reason was very simple: there were 20,000 Japanese pirates at that time, and he only had 300 soldiers under his command, and Yu Dayou had studied arithmetic.

Although Yu Daxia was passionate, he didn't want to disappear for no reason. Governor Zhang did this really unreasonably, and things became a series. Zhao Wenhua urged Zhang Jing, Zhang Jing urged Yu Dayou, but Yu Dayou refused.

Yu Daxia held on like this until the great victory of Wangjiangjing. In this battle, he ignored the past grudges and cooperated with Zhang Jing to defeat the Japanese pirates and made great achievements.

But the bad thing is that we don't care about the past.

Because he acted too bravely, Zhao Wenhua believed that he was Zhang Jing's man, robbed him of his achievements, and looked for opportunities to punish him and demoted his official position. In desperation, Hu Zongxian could only remain silent.

Yu Dayou's life was really not easy. He always encountered some inexplicable things. He was clearly appreciated but was not promoted. He was demoted despite winning battles.

Don't worry, Master Yu, more inexplicable things are yet to come.

Yu Dayou, who was demoted, did not cry out for injustice, nor was he discouraged. Shortly after the great victory at Wangjiangjing, he participated in the Battle of Hushu as a subordinate of Cao Bangfu, governor of Su Song, and once again defeated the Japanese pirates. It is said that this is the end of the matter.

However (this word often appears in Yu Dayou's life), not long after, Yu Dayou, who could not rest, participated in Hu Zongxian's pursuit battle (the one mentioned before). Although he was ultimately defeated, Yu Dayou gave his best in the battle.

, performed very bravely.

In fact, sometimes, being very heroic is not a good thing.

After the war, Zhao Wenhua repeated his old trick and put the responsibility on Cao Bangfu. Governor Cao was so angry that he wanted to hit the wall and hated Zhao Wenhua and Hu Zongxian. But Mr. Yan was staying in the center and he didn't want to touch the tiger's butt, so he got angry

, aiming at Yu Dayou.

Governor Cao scolded Yu Dayou in his letter, saying that he allowed the enemy to flee, and the reason why he did this was because Comrade Yu Dayou was too brave in fighting with Hu Zongxian. Cao Bangfu concluded that Yu Dayou must be Hu Zongxian's man.

This accusation was so dark that even the emperor became angry and furious. He exempted Yu Dayou from his hereditary family and asked him to stay in peace, otherwise he would be beheaded in public.

Regardless of the past grievances, it was Zhang Jing's people who did evil things. He was very brave, even Hu Zongxian's people still did evil things. Yu Dayou was completely depressed.

After the emperor's order came down, almost everyone agreed that Yu Dayou would never make trouble again or meddle in others' affairs.

However, Yu Dayou put away the order, called his deputy Wang Chonggu, and gave him an order: prepare to go to sea to pursue the Japanese pirates. Soon after, his fleet intercepted the Japanese pirates at Laoyouzui, and launched a general attack to burn down the enemy's giant ships.

Eight ships and more than a thousand enemies were killed.

This is an adventure in the true sense. No one asked Yu Dayou to do this. Based on past experience, he may not have merit if he wins, but he must have fault if he loses. For him, there is no benefit to fighting this battle.

Suffer.

But he still did it, and he was not afraid of suffering a loss.

This is not the first time. Since the 14th year of Jiajing (1535), this dear man has suffered countless losses in the officialdom and been scapegoated, just because of his nosy, because of his loyalty to his duties, and because

His persistence in serving the country.

Yu Dayou is such a persistent person, who is great because of his persistence.

In fact, Yu Dayou, who has always suffered unfair treatment, is not alone, because there is a person who is always watching him, and this person is Hu Zongxian.

After several years of observation, Hu Zongxian got to know and understand this man. He believed that this man was the ideal candidate he was looking for and would become his right-hand man. So in the thirty-fifth year of Jiajing reign (1556), the governor Liu Yuan

After being dismissed due to unfavorable combat operations, Hu Zongxian gained the support of the cabinet through Zhao Wenhua's relationship, and promoted Yu Dayou to the position of Zhejiang Chief Military Officer (roughly equivalent to the Zhejiang Military Division Commander).

This was the first key figure Hu Zongxian found.

However, as the anti-Japanese work continued to deepen, Hu Zongxian found that his energy and IQ could no longer adapt to the heavy and complicated affairs. Therefore, Hu Zongxian, who was extremely smart, decided to recruit a staff member. The first condition for recruitment was that this person was better than him.

smarter.

Soon, he found the second key person:

Hundreds of years later, Mr. Zheng Banqiao, a master of calligraphy and painting, once admired an ancient work and sighed like this: I would like to be a lackey under the Ivy League!

The popular meaning of this sentence is that if I can come to Qingteng's sect and be a dog for him, I will be satisfied.

The one with green vines is Xu Wei, the one with Xu Wei is Xu Wenchang.

In the Ming Dynasty, there were so-called three great talents. The conditions for selection were very simple: well-read and knowledgeable. However, it turns out that due to fierce competition, the simpler the standards, the harder it is to achieve them. After repeated evaluations, even people like Brother Tang Bohu

In the end, the talent failed to squeeze in.

Therefore, in the end, only three people were recognized and won this honor: Xie Jin, Yang Shen, and Xu Wei.

As the editor-in-chief of the Yongle Dadian, Xie Jin was recognized as the most knowledgeable. However, Yang Shen, who had trouble with the emperor and gathered people to make trouble, was said to have read all the books in the world because he stayed in the ravine all day with nothing to do.

Recommended as No. 1 in the Expo.

The reason why Xu Wei is ranked third is not because of his poor knowledge, but because he was born late. In terms of erudition, he is not as good as Xie Jin, and in terms of exposition, he is not as good as Yang Shen. However, he has become the most famous among the three.

The most legendary character.

This person truly deserves this honor.

Xu Wei, born in the 16th year of Zhengde (1521), was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. One of his favorite habits in his life was to give himself names and nicknames. He has used countless names, such as Xu Wenqing, Qingteng Taoist, Tian Shuiyue, Shu Laoren, etc.

, of course the most famous among them is Xu Wenchang.

Zhang Ailing once said that one must become famous early, and Brother Xu Wei definitely conforms to Miss Zhang's statement, because he was only ten years old when he became famous.

In the third grade of elementary school, when he had not yet fully recognized Chinese characters, Xu Wei had already accomplished a feat. He read through the famous essay "Jie Moo" by the famous writer Yang Xiong. However, this talented man was not satisfied with reading. He also came up with ingenuity.

He rewrote this famous article (which is today’s so-called spoof), and finally gave his masterpiece a relatively contradictory name - "Relief of Destruction".

Xu Wei is definitely a famous figure in Chinese history. The legendary stories of his youth are well-known to every household. Before I knew that Brother Tang Bohu had eight wives, I had already heard about Xu Wen's wise fight against landlords, Xu Wen's wise fight against corrupt officials, etc.

s story.

Although the legends are very beautiful, I can be sure that most of them are false. Because the real Mr. Xu Wei did not have the energy to do such noisy things. Before the age of thirty, he had been busy doing one thing——

take an exam.

Xu Wei's first twenty years were still very smooth. When he was twenty years old, he passed the scholar examination. At this time, his reputation was already quite good. It happened that Xue Hui, a doctor in the Ministry of official affairs at that time, came to Zhejiang and heard about his talent.

When I called him for a chat, I was immediately amazed and praised him repeatedly as the most outstanding talent.

With the praise of this cadre at the central department level, Xu Wei's reputation became even greater. He cheered up and prepared to continue his efforts and take the provincial examination to pass the imperial examination until his final destination - Beijing.

In the view of Xu Wei, who was proud of the spring breeze, this was just a formality.

There is no doubt that Xu Wei is indeed a rare genius. He is versatile and famous throughout the country at a young age. However, when it comes to his personal future, he made a fatal mistake.

Because in the imperial examination, only Jinshi is recognized, not geniuses.

When we talk about the imperial examination system in the Ming Dynasty, we always hear that thousands of people stepped on it, tens of thousands of people kicked it, ruining talents, imprisoning ideas, etc. It was darker than the underworld and more severe than the top ten tortures, but history has proven that in those days, this

It is the most scientific system.

In the imperial examination examination room, there is no absolute fairness, but there is relative fairness. Whether you are a child of aristocratic family or a poor commoner, if you want to have a bright future, you have only one choice - pick up the pen in your hand and answer the exam paper

Finish, then seal your name and wait for your fate to come.

Facts have proven that studying hard and making progress every day is the best way to get into the top ranks. If you want to play tricks and go through the back door, it will almost certainly be a dead end.

In the Ming Dynasty examination hall, cheating was no joke. You had to search yourself before entering. If you were caught, you would be disqualified from the exam and not allowed to take the exam again for a few years. If you are more courageous, prepare to collude with the examiner, buy a copy of the exam questions, etc.

It is best to pack your luggage and make arrangements for the funeral. Because doing this business back then was very risky. Once discovered, it was impossible to say whether you would be beheaded or exiled.

Cheating is too difficult, and those of you who want to engage in crooked ways may have to rely on connections to go through the back door. But the cruel facts tell us that even if you are the son of the chief minister of the dynasty, it can only show your sorrow, because throughout the Ming Dynasty, Gao Gao

Most of the descendants who take part in the imperial examinations do not get good rankings. If you are really lucky and get in the top few, don't be too busy to be happy. On the contrary, it means that your father will soon suffer.

The successive chief ministers of the Ming Dynasty, such as Zhang Juzheng, Wang Xijue, etc., although they were usually very powerful in the court, as soon as they heard that their sons were among the top in the exam, they would immediately wash their faces and prepare for the coming abuse. Because according to convention, the son

As soon as the good news arrived, within a few hours at most, the official's scoldings were about to arrive. They were all over the place, such as why a son should be honored by his father, suspicions of cheating, etc.

The officials of the Ming Dynasty had a very democratic spirit. Almost all of them had the magnanimity of a feudal lord. In addition, their salivary system was very developed, and they had the spirit of a paparazzi. Of course they would not give up when encountering such a thing.

Yes, if you catch it, bite it, and if you bite it, you won’t let go.

It takes a lot of courage and shame to get up from the drool. For example, the later chief minister Wang Xijue, after his son won the first place in the provincial examination, couldn't help scolding him and even drove his son home.

It was not until thirteen years later, when he had already resigned and returned home, that he allowed his son to take part in the examination.

Of course, I am a senior official in the imperial court, and my son ranked first in the examination.

However, there are still some who are not scolded, but they are unique. This heroic father and son are Yang Tinghe and his son, Yang Shen, one of the three great talents.

Brother Yang Shen won the first prize in the exam, but his father did not get scolded. This is because Brother Yang Shen is so famous and his skills are so good that everyone has reached a consensus. If Yang Shen fails, it means there is something wrong with the exam.

The same fate seemed to have befallen Xu Wei. He was famous all over the world and had great talents. When he went to take part in the small provincial examination, everyone thought that passing the examination was just a matter of ranking for him.

But God wanted to play a trick on Xu Wei. He took the provincial examination for the first time and failed. It doesn't matter. Just wipe your sweat and take the exam again three years later.

The second time, Xu Wei failed the exam again, and God played a second trick on him.

The same game happened three years later, and Xu Wei failed for the third time.

Xu Wei, who was extremely depressed, encountered an unanswerable problem - why did he fail the exam?

It was at this most difficult time in his life that he met the person who changed his life - Hu Zongxian.

After the defeat in that pursuit battle, the defeated Hu Zongxian was no longer the governor of Zhejiang, but surprisingly, instead of being demoted, this dear man was promoted to governor.

Because his backer Zhao Wenhua gave full play to his frame-up skills, he not only demoted the meritorious Cao Bangfu, but also brought along the then governor Yang Yi, forcing him to assume leadership responsibilities.

So Cao Bangfu and Yang Yi left, and Hu Zongxian became the new governor. He could finally go all out to start his own ambitious project.

Soon after, he heard various legends about Xu Wei. After actual inspection, he decided to recruit this talented man as his staff advisor.

Hu Zongxian was extremely smart by nature and a very arrogant person. Although he flattered Zhao Wenhua and Yan Song, he looked down on these two people in his heart. At this time, he was even more majestic, with Yan Song's support at the top and his confidants at the bottom.

Minions, in addition to Southern Zhili and Zhejiang, even Fujian and Guangdong provinces want to sell his face.

That's all, but this Governor Hu is still a very scary person. According to historical records, Hu Zongxian was born with extraordinary appearance, and he had an intimidating aura. He was not angry and was powerful, which is roughly equivalent to what we call official authority today.

It scares people.

Take Yu Dayou, for example. This comrade is famous for his toughness. He dares to stick to his principles and is not afraid of losing his job. He also has martial arts skills that dominate the world. Someone once joked that even if he died, Black and White Wuchang would not dare to take him away.

But for such a well-known hero, the commander of the Zhejiang Military Division, he was cautious every time he met Hu Zongxian, not even daring to raise his head, and would sometimes tremble.

Relatively speaking, Xu Wei's level was so low that he couldn't even pass the examination. Although he was famous, he was just a famous pauper.

Now the governor has taken a liking to the pauper and plans to hire him as a staff member (master). In the Shaoxing area, it is common to be a master, but it is rare to meet a big patron like Hu Zongxian, let alone someone who takes the initiative to invite him.

In the eyes of many people, this is pie in the sky.

Xu Wei was relatively straightforward. Facing the governor's envoy, he responded quickly in fluent Shaoxing dialect, but after he finished speaking, the envoy remained motionless - he really couldn't understand.

In desperation, the envoy invited a translator, and then he understood Xu Wei's meaning. It was really concise and concise - where you came from, where you are going back! Who asked you to come, you let him come!

Facing this super talented person, the envoy had nothing to say, so he had to go back and convey the original words of this poor scholar tremblingly.

However, to everyone's surprise, Hu Zongxian, who had always been arrogant and unruly, did not get angry. He thought for a moment and then said to his subordinates: I will go find him.

The arrogant Governor Hu actually gave in to a poor scholar. This is an incredible and strange thing.

However, facts have proven that Governor Hu did not make a loss-making business. Compared with the contributions that this poor scholar later made, it was worth even asking him to kowtow, let alone make concessions.

Since ancient times, romantic talents have been the targets of many high-ranking officials, but in fact, these so-called talents have no role other than reciting poems and being arty. For example, the famous Wang Xizhi and Wang Huizhi and their sons wrote very good calligraphy and poems.

Yes, but in daily work, they should be directly classified as imbecile.

Wang Xizhi won't go into details. He did a good job as an official, but he was just getting paid every day for decades. His son Wang Huizhi was even more outrageous. This man once served as a cavalry in the army and was more or less a military attaché. However,

He just wandered around all day long, doing nothing, as if sleepwalking. One day, someone asked him this question:

"What exactly do you do?"

Comrade Wang Huizhi thought about this question seriously and answered:

"I often see people leading horses ahead of me. I might be in charge of the horses."

In history, there are countless such talented men and idiots, and Xu Wei seems to be included in this category.

Because Xu Wei's situation is very similar to the above two people. He is well-known and versatile. He is very good at calligraphy, painting, and poetry. After seeing his paintings, Mr. Zheng Banqiao was willing to become a dog under his door, although it was his personal wish.

It’s not easy to promote, but it fully reflects Xu Wei’s painting skills.

However, regarding the love of the public, Brother Xu Wei is very low-key and extremely humble, as can be seen from his self-evaluation:

My writing comes first, poetry comes second, writing comes second, and painting comes third.

According to this statement, it is really sensational that the superb painting skills that future generations admire are actually the profession that Mr. Xu Wei paid the least attention to (relatively speaking).

Fortunately, Mr. Xu Wei is not alone, because as far as I know, there is another person who is widely praised by the people and has the same level of painting. He is the famous magic brush Comrade Ma Liang.

To this extent, one can be regarded as pretty good. However, Mr. Xu Wei, who is so good at it, is quite a failure in real life. After studying for more than 20 years, he could not even pass the national examination, and his basic life cannot be guaranteed.

, seems not much better than that Wang Huizhi.

However, Hu Zongxian still went to visit him in person. He spoke Huizhou dialect, talked and gestured, and after being confused for a long time, he finally took him back.

Hu Zongxian is a person who likes to work hard and hates literati who talk empty words. The reason why he values Xu Wei so much and feels like a treasure is just based on his own intuitive judgment-in addition to poetry, calligraphy and painting, this person also has more outstanding talents.

ability.

His judgment was very correct.

In fact, Xu Wei's ranking of his abilities was wrong, because his most outstanding ability was neither painting, calligraphy, nor poetry, but the art of war.

Xu Wei is a man who is proficient in the art of war, and he is by no means an armchair strategist. This is also a strange thing. Hu Zongxian understands the art of war. He only came to understand it after several years of hard work on the border, watching countless dead people, and going through many hardships.

Xu Xiucai sat at home every day and never had the opportunity to go to the battlefield to observe. He knew the art of war with just a few military books. It can only be said that he was too talented.

Just like that, Xu Wei, wearing rags and rags, walked into the Governor's Mansion swaggeringly. He really didn't regard himself as an outsider. He wanted to eat and wear well, and he took whatever he saw that was good. Except for Hu Zongxian's wife, there was no one else he didn't care about.

Dare to ask for it.

What's even more funny is that after this man had a full meal, he liked to wander around, regardless of occasion or location. Once, Hu Zongxian held an important military meeting in the assembly hall. The participants included Yu Dayou, Lu Boring and other senior generals.

Everyone was holding their breath and listening to Governor Hu's lecture when Xu Wei suddenly broke in.

Seeing the master rushing in without knocking at the door, Hu Zongxian thought there was something urgent, so he immediately shut up and waited for Mr. Xu's instructions. The governor did not speak, so naturally no one dared to speak out, so the venue fell silent.

Everyone looked at this alien visitor attentively.

Master Xu was indeed extraordinary. Under the gaze of everyone, he walked around the venue easily and without saying a word, and then walked away.

Everyone was stunned, and it took them a long time to come back to their senses: Is this person a psychopath?

Hu Zongxian was a very serious person and lacked patience with his subordinates. He would often question and abuse him. Anyone who dared to do this during a meeting with him would be beaten to death and dragged out to feed the dogs. It would not be surprising.

However, Hu Zongxian showed great tolerance towards this poor scholar who made fun of him. He never mentioned the matter at all and let it go.

Hu Zongxian's modesty and prudence paid off. After the initial running-in period, Xu Wei began to shine brightly. His writing style was excellent and to the point. From the emperor to the county government, all of Hu Zongxian's official correspondence was written by

He took care of everything, and even Yan Song, a veteran official document expert, wrote several times to praise Hu Zongxian's official document writing.

However, it was not these exchanges of documents that had a profound impact on Hu Zongxian, but a casual conversation.

Hu Zongxian, who became the governor, originally thought that under his glorious leadership, the Japanese pirate rebellion could be quickly subsided. However, since the thirty-fourth year of Jiajing (1555), the chaos has become more serious, and the robbers have become more and more diligent, and every year
