Chapter 19 The Lonely Foodie

"Jianguo, how's your research going?"

After Lin Yi attended the class reunion, he finally remembered to check and accept the homework assigned to Li Jianguo.

The guy seemed to have been waiting for this question for a long time. He immediately took out a small black notebook and said in a proud tone:

"Look, it's all here!"

In fact, doing research is a very boring thing. After Li Jianguo went there once, he felt it was boring, but he persisted because he agreed to Lin Yi to start a business together.

This perseverance has exceeded that of most college students.

Although the process is boring, when I report the results now, I feel that my labor has value, and I gain a sense of satisfaction.

Lin Yi took a quick glance and found that the notes on it were in a mess. Even the numbers he had drawn on detailing the amount of meals served by each restaurant were on top. He immediately lost the desire to read it seriously.

"Just tell me briefly."

Li Jianguo did not notice Lin Yi's disdain, and enthusiastically shared his findings:

"These days, I have observed all the restaurants in and around the school. Some provide takeout, and some do not. The one with the best business is the Malatang restaurant in Xiaonanmen that doesn't even have a sign..."

Lin Yi verified them one by one in his mind and found that they were very different from the results he obtained through questionnaires on BBS, so they should be accurate.

"If we want to attack these restaurants, which one do you think we should start with?"

“Of course it’s Malatang!”

Li Jianguo vowed with his eyes shining brightly, and this time he gave his reason without waiting for Lin Yi to persuade him: "This store is the most popular in the school. I went there for two days and the queue was always long. I tried

It’s really delicious.”

"And the most important thing is, do you know what it is?"

"This store doesn't have takeout yet, because they are too busy every day. I see many people carrying two or three portions, probably for their roommates."

“If we can list this restaurant on our takeout website, many people will definitely order it!”

Lin nodded and was able to draw inferences. At least his mentality was much better than that of those professional fishermen.

"Did you mention this to him?"

Li Jianguo's excited look was a little restrained: "I mentioned it, but he said that the people queuing up in the store now can't finish it. He has been approached by other takeout websites before, but he rejected them all."

"Come on, let's go meet this boss together."

Just as they were told, the two of them left the dormitory directly. Li Jianguo took the lead and led Lin Yi to find this "Jingdian Famous Trademark".

When Lin arrived at the scene, he saw that the store was too plain.

There isn't even a formal store name, just the words "Mala Tang" written on cardboard with a marker, which is barely a sign.

The front door is also very small, with two small tables on each side, which can only seat about ten people.

Such a humble shop has captured the taste buds of many JD students.

The boss seemed to be impressed by Li Jianguo, so he took the initiative to greet him: "I came before dinner time today. Let's see what we eat."

Lin Yi and the others specially chose this time to come, so they couldn't delay other people's business.

"Boss, this meal is not for dinner. Do you remember what I told you about the takeout website? This is my roommate, his name is Lin Yi."

It seemed that classmate Li Jianguo was not used to using the title "partner", but Lin Yi did not correct him.

The boss is about forty years old, tall and round, wearing a white vest. He looks more like a butcher than a lonely gourmet who lives in the city.

He wasn't angry, but he was obviously not interested: "Oh, I told you everything, we don't do takeout."

Li Jianguo helplessly spread his hands, expressing his boss's firm attitude.

Seeing how easy it was for him to talk, Lin started chatting casually: "What's your last name, boss?"

"Hey, what are we little people like? My surname is Yang."

Lin nodded and found that he was not used to this kind of formal tone, so he gave up the college student's way:

"Where is Uncle Yang's hometown?"

"I'm from the Northeast."

In fact, the boss's accent was quite strong, and Lin Yi could tell. He just wanted to say: "That's just right, our Jianguo is also from the Northeast."

The boss was almost fully aware of his deliberate trick, and thought it was a bit funny, so he reminded him: "I know, this little fellow, we already knew each other last time."

Lin Yi was not discouraged: "How many years has Uncle Yang opened this store here?"

"It's old, almost ten years younger. I'm not bragging to you. There are many former students from Jingdian University who came back to eat this bite from me long after they graduated."

The boss's tone sounded quite proud, and Lin Yi followed his tone and continued: "Yes, I heard from Jianguo that the queue here is very long during meal time every day."

"No, I learned this craft in my hometown. There are many people here who come out to do this. But my recipe is different from theirs, it is a unique secret recipe!"

Although the boss interacts with college students every day, there are really not many people who are willing to sit down and chat with him, so he couldn't help but brag a few words.

"Then your business here is so good, why don't you expand the store?"

The boss did not shy away from any "trade secrets" and said very matter-of-factly:

"First of all, this store is on its own. It's only so big. There's no other store next to it for me to rent."

"Secondly, there are only two of us in the store, my wife and I. We are really busy from morning to night every day. That's all the two of us can do."

He also specifically explained:

"Don't look at me sitting here chatting with you right now. My wife is still cleaning up inside. She can't stop scrubbing."

"After all, that man is not an animal, so you have to give him a break, right? Animals don't dare to kill him."

Lin Yi, who worked as a social animal, can understand this feeling, but Li Jianguo obviously still doesn't understand why he doesn't make money even if he has money.

"Boss, you can hire someone. If you log on to our website, you will definitely be able to sell more copies every day!"

The boss could tell that he had little social experience, so he explained a few more words:

"Let's not talk about whether it is good to hire someone for our small shop. If we hire someone and we don't sell a few more copies, can you replenish my salary?"

Li Jianguo was at a loss for words for a moment. He was somewhat blindly confident about "entrepreneurship" which he still knew little about, but he did not dare to agree to such a thing rashly.

The boss patted his thigh and stood up: "Okay, I've had enough rest after talking to you for so long, and I have to get back to work."

"Anyway, our family doesn't plan to do takeout. You can go to other places and ask."

Li Jianguo turned his attention to Lin Yi, who no longer struggled with persuading his boss.

It's normal to have difficulties. If it's easy to talk, where would it be Lin Yi's turn to pick up the slack?

"You're already here, let's have a meal before we leave. It just so happens that we don't have to queue now!"
