Chapter 58: Escape

Struggling to stand up, Gao Fei hurriedly slapped a "First Aid Technique" on his chest to bring his HP back above the dying line.

"Huh? This isn't even fatal, it's quite interesting!"

A look of surprise appeared on General Schroeder's face, and he swung his giant sword again, pointing the blade directly at the red dragon's neck.

"Cut off your head and see if you die!"

Of course, "Standing Still" can't stop instant death attacks like "Decapitation". Gao Fei barely dodged the giant sword, but was hit by General Schroeder's backhand left hook.

With a bang, Gao Fei was blasted away by a punch. He fell so hard that stars appeared in his eyes. The blood volume he had just raised was at the bottom again. If he was hit again, even if he could "stand still", he would not be able to save his life.

Jiang Feng noticed that Gao Fei was on the verge of death again, and tried to rush over to help him stop General Schroeder, but was blocked by a frost giant warrior. There was nothing he could do in his hurry.

On the other side of the battlefield, in the shadow-shrouded corner, Qi Tian's figure suddenly appeared, waving his hand and throwing a clay pot.

boom!

The clay pot hit General Schroeder's feet and shattered on the spot, and a large cloud of green and purple smoke escaped.

This clay pot was a device recovered by Qi Tian when he dismantled the trap. The pot was filled with poisonous gas, which was released after breaking into pieces. It enveloped Gao Fei, who was fighting a bloody battle, and General Schroeder, who had the upper hand on the opposite side.

Gao Fei was wearing an "Adaptation Necklace" and was not affected by the poison gas, but General Schroeder accidentally inhaled a large mouthful of poison gas, choking him and coughing, and the subsequent offensive was interrupted.

"Xiaotian! Well done!"

Gao Fei was overjoyed. Under the cover of the poisonous gas, he breathed out the flaming dragon breath that had just cooled down again, and finally reduced General Schroeder's HP to less than 250. The mission was completed, and the system prompted that it was time to retreat.

"Wori! Finally completed this bird mission!"

Gao Fei returned to his human form and called his companions to retreat quickly.

The two frost giant warriors tried to block the exit of the tomb, but were blown away by Jiang Feng's "Sun Flame Palm". They took Gao Fei's hand and fled.

Qitian, Eve, Muning, Al and Wushi also rushed out at the critical moment, followed Gao Fei and Jiang Feng, and ran in embarrassment.

In order to prevent the frost giant from following the light, Gao Fei put away the "floating ball" and fled in the darkness of the tomb passage.

Before they could run very far, a ball of fire suddenly lit up in front of them, alerting everyone and quickly displaying their weapons.

Continuing to walk forward for a while, they saw a short figure standing in the middle of the tomb passage holding a torch, blocking their way.

"Hey! Friend, come with me! I know a shortcut to the Holy Ax Hall!" Halfling thief Laurie said with a smile.

Gao Fei and others couldn't help but look at each other.

This halfling was obviously a guide hired by General Schroeder, so why did he offer to lead them?

"Brother Fei! What does the little dwarf opposite mean?" Qi Tian questioned in the team channel, "If we are not relatives, what reason does he have to help us? I'm afraid he is cheating!"

Gao Fei also had the same concerns. When he was hesitating, he received a system prompt: Do you trust the halfling thief Laurie?

Option a: The opponent is a member of the Frost Giant and is not trustworthy! Hack him to death! Step over his body and move on.

Option b: This little guy doesn’t look like a bad guy, give him a chance to prove himself.

How to choose this?

Gao Fei hesitated for a moment, remembering the battle in the tomb just now, Laurie did not attack his own side, and seemed to be merciful, so he followed his heart and chose option b.

"Halfling, why do you want to help us?"

Goofy questioned Laurie on behalf of his companions.

"Big man, what I did has nothing to do with you. I was just entrusted by Brother Joseph to return a favor to him."

"You know Joseph Cooper very well?"

"Of course, we are old friends." The halfling extinguished the torch in his hand and continued: "When the frost giants came to Rest Island, they originally wanted to ask Brother Joseph to guide them. It happened that Brother Joseph was on the Gobi Desert that day.

After chasing the Blue-footed Dragon Snake, Schroeder and his party failed, and they were impatient to wait, so they went to the tavern to find me and forced me to lead them to steal the holy ax buried deep in King Olaf's tomb."

"Just this afternoon, I received a 'SMS' from Brother Joseph. I learned that you are also looking for the Holy Axe. Brother Joseph also asked me to find an opportunity to help you."

"I didn't want to work for the savage and rude Frost Giants in the first place. If I had the opportunity to trick them and return a favor, of course I wouldn't refuse." The halfling said with a smile.

"Which direction are you going to take us next?" Goofy asked the halfling.

In fact, the tomb passage map in his hand had already marked the safe route from the tomb chamber to the Holy Ax Hall. The reason why he didn't reveal it was to test it again and see if Laurie would deliberately lead them to their death.

"Go forward along this tomb passage, turn right when you encounter a fork in the road, and you can finally reach the Holy Ax Church safely."

Goofy nodded, and the alertness in his eyes faded. The road Laurie mentioned was the route recommended on the map. It can be seen that this halfling is sincerely helping them.

"You go first, I want to leave some small gifts for the frost giant."

With a sly smile on his face, the halfling first put on a thick steel glove, then opened the satchel on his waist, took out a handful of small metal balls covered with thorns with his gloved hand, and scattered them on the ground.

Qi Tian came over to take a look and recognized it as the poison-quenching caltrop. He patted the halfling on the shoulder and said with a smile, "Man, you are an expert!"

Lowry sprinkled two large handfuls of caltrops on this must-pass road, and then followed Gao Fei and continued to explore the depths of the mausoleum.

About five or six minutes after walking out, the screams of the frost giants and vague curses suddenly came from the tomb passage behind them.

"Haha! Those stupid guys stepped on the little gift I left for them."

The halfling grinned happily, then turned and walked towards the left fork.

"Mr. Lowry, this is the right way." Gao Fei pointed to the intersection on the right.

"I know, but I don't plan to accompany you any longer." Laurie shrugged, "I'm a coward. I just want to live a peaceful life. When I'm free, I just drink a glass of wine and play two rounds of cards. I don't have the courage to accompany you.

Let’s fight against that old monster in Gelmir together, and let’s break up here.”

As he spoke, he walked backwards into the forked road on the right, scattering caltrops on the ground as he walked.

Gao Fei initially thought that the halfling really wanted to give up and was unwilling to take risks with him. However, when he saw that he deliberately scattered the caltrops in a conspicuous place, he immediately realized his true intention.

It turned out that Laurie was using himself as bait to create suspicion and mislead the frost giants into thinking that the target was heading towards the forked road sprinkled with caltrops, and then went astray, buying time for Gao Fei and others who chose another forked road.

In order to escape easily.
