Chapter 10: Hunting Wild Boars

"The sun is going down, when are you going to start?" Mrs. Miller asked impatiently.

"Don't worry, my dear lady, wild boars are always active at night, and we still have plenty of time to prepare."

Goofy put the modified bear trap into his backpack, borrowed two shovels from Mr. Smith, and boarded the caravan.

Martin placed a bundle of sharpened firewood on the cart and sat on it himself.

Mr. Smith whipped his horse and dragged the caravan away from the yard.

The caravan drove on the gravel road for more than half an hour and slowly stopped at the edge of the field.

"Wild boars are often found in this cornfield." Mr. Smith pointed to the farmland and introduced, "There is a small wooden house next to the field with dry food and water. You can sleep there at night."

Goofy and Martin took down their backpacks and firewood, took off their hats and waved to Mr. Smith as a farewell.

Mr. Smith drove off with the caravan.

Taking advantage of the afterglow of the sunset, Gao Fei walked into the cornfield to investigate.

In the area near the hillside in the north, large pieces of corn stalks lie on the ground, and wild boar hoof prints can be seen everywhere.

Gao Fei walked forward along the wild boar's hoof prints until he came to a bush growing up the hillside.

It seems that the wild boar comes down from the mountain.

He unpacked his backpack, placed five animal traps on the wild boar's path, and sprinkled a layer of loose soil on them.

Martin was digging a hole noisily.

Gao Fei set up the animal trap, picked up the shovel, and started digging together.

By the time night fell, the two men had dug a large hole two meters in diameter and three meters deep in the soft cornfield.

Goofy jumped into the pit and waved to Martin standing above.

Martin nodded knowingly and handed over a sharpened wooden stick.

Gao Fei buried the stick at the bottom of the pit with its tip pointed upward.

This was repeated until a trap like a forest of guns was set at the bottom of the pit, and then he took Martin's extended hand and used his strength to climb out of the pit.

The "landlord", a hound dog, was very humane and hauled in a large pile of corn stalks.

Gao Fei carefully spread the straw on the pit and sprinkled a layer of loose soil to ensure that there were no flaws.

By this time, it was completely dark.

After the two of them finished their work, they went to the ditch next to the field to wash their faces, drink some water, and then returned to the cabin, where they gnawed dry bread and waited for the wild boar to attack.

Goofy spends an astrolabe energy to quickly skip the boring waiting time.

In the blink of an eye, it was late at night, and the bright moonlight shone into the cabin through the window.

Martin's snoring echoed in his ears.

The hound lay down next to the door and took a nap. From time to time, he opened his eyes alertly and sniffed around.

In the silent night, the chirping of crickets came, and everything seemed so peaceful.

At this moment, the hound suddenly stood up and growled lowly at the door.

Gao Fei stood up from the armchair calmly and put on his rapier and dagger.

"Martin, wake up! It's time to work!"

"Huh?" Martin jumped up from the other armchair, sleepy-eyed and confused, "Is the wild boar coming?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the howl of wild beasts could be heard in the distance.

Goofy grabbed the shotgun and threw it to Martin.

"Let's go, brother! Go and welcome our guests!"

The night wind blew through the green gauze tent, and illuminated by the bright moonlight, a group of black figures could be vaguely seen running around in the fields, and screams could not be heard.

Gao Fei walked lightly and walked quickly through the cornfield with his body hunched over.

Soon we came to the place where the bear trap was placed.

Sure enough, two fat and strong wild boars stepped on the trap and were rolling all over the ground, wailing in pain.

There were also four wild boars, ignoring their injured companions and munching on the corn greedily.

The challenge level of the six wild boars is 1/2, their HP ranges from 20 to 30, and their strength and constitution are both 17 points.

With mud-coated bristles and rough pigskin, it is equivalent to Lin Armor, providing a natural defense of 5, and also has the two feats of "alertness" and "robustness".

Martin brought the hound to Goofy's side, raised his shotgun, aimed at a wild boar and fired.

Bang!

The gunfire rang out, blood splattered on the wild boar's face, and it fell to the ground howling miserably.

This shot blinded its left eye.

The remaining three wild boars were alerted by the gunshots and looked towards this side warily.

"Let's go!"

Gao Fei stopped Martin from continuing to shoot, turned around and ran away.

Two people and one dog are fighting against four wild boars. It is too dangerous to fight hard, so we have to rely on traps.

The three wild boars were still hesitating whether to escape.

Seeing the hunter turning around and running away first, he became ferocious and chased after him howling.

Gao Fei and Martin ran with their hounds in the fields, occasionally looking back to observe the position of the wild boars.

A wild boar was chasing at the front, unaware that it had fallen into a trap. Suddenly, its feet sank, trampling on the ground camouflaged by corn stalks, and it rolled into a pit.

puff!

The wild boar fell to the bottom of the pit, its belly was pierced by a sharp wooden stake, and its blood flowed violently.

The two wild boars following behind hurriedly stopped at the edge of the pit.

"Little Piggy, come down here too!"

Gao Fei sneered and hit the "Whip of Thorns".

A thorny vine appeared out of thin air, wrapped around the wild boar's neck, and dragged it forward 10 feet. It fell headlong into a pit, its head was bruised and blood flowed, and it screamed in agony.

Martin turned and fired, hitting the remaining wild boar.

The pig's mouth was smashed to pieces by the shotgun, and one of its tusks flew out.

The injured wild boar turned its head and wanted to run away with fear in its eyes.

The hound "landlord" lost no time and pounced on the wild boar, showing its sharp white teeth. He bit the wild boar's hind legs and dragged it hard, tripping it to the ground.

The wild boar howled and twisted its body covered with hard bristles, trying to shake off the hounds.

While the wild boar and the hound were fighting, Gao Fei unsheathed his sword, stepped forward quickly, and stabbed the wild boar with his sword!

call out!

The rapier penetrated deeply into the wild boar's neck, triggering a critical strike!

With a critical hit damage of 2d68, plus a sneak attack damage of 1d6, the strong wild boar was stabbed by Gao Fei's sword and lost 17 HP points, leaving him on the verge of death.

Immediately afterwards, Gao Fei used his off-hand weapon - a dagger - to make up for it, killing the wild boar cleanly.

On the other side, Martin walked to the edge of the pit and shot at the rolling and struggling wild boar at the bottom of the pit. It was easier than practicing target shooting.

Goofy put the rapier and dagger back into their sheaths, returned to the trap, and kept casting "Whip of Thorns" to drag down the wild boar that was trying to jump out of the trap.

The two cooperated with each other and killed two wild boars in the pit within a minute.

There were also three wild boars. One of them was shot and blinded, and two stepped on the traps. We couldn't let them escape.

Goofy and Martin retraced their steps to search for the injured wild boar.

The blind wild boar, with its blood trail extending up the hillside, had already run away.

Gao Fei stops Martin from tracking him into the forest.

"It's just a waste of time. It's too dangerous in the jungle. Let's wait until daybreak."

"Okay, let's go back and deal with the two stupid pigs who stepped on the bear trap first," Martin said.

The two turned around and walked a short distance away. Gao Fei suddenly stopped and raised his index finger to cover his lips, signaling Martin to be silent.
