Chapter 79: Confessions of a Coward

As Goofy sees through the astrolabe, Agatha Freddy is actually a hag.

The hags can easily tear an adult man into pieces, but they prefer to hunt children, considering their flesh and blood, especially their internal organs, as a supreme delicacy.

As early as four years ago, Agatha used magic to transform into a human, sneak into the city, and hunt children.

The evil hag soon discovered that street children can be seen everywhere in the noisy and chaotic streets of Patus, and there are many gangs and laws. Even if someone goes missing, it is usually not noticed by the police.

To her, settling down in this lawless neighborhood was like a mouse falling into a rice vat. She was so happy!

In order to obtain an identity that would facilitate her activities in human society, Agatha used the "Transformation Technique" to change her body and image. With a few tricks, she fascinated Mr. Freddy and made him obey her every word.

Carl Freddy first kidnapped street children to serve as snacks to his wife, and then assisted Agatha in training the ogres recruited from her "hometown" and treated these monsters as adopted children.

Later, at the initiative of his wife, Freddie founded a workhouse in Pattus Street, with Agatha as the director.

The workhouse nominally adopts orphans, but in fact it raises the stray children lured to serve as Agatha's food reserve.

Up to this point, Carl Freddy is still in a bewitched role in this criminal gang, and he is indeed worthy of sympathy.

But then, things changed.

About two years ago, Agatha was negligent and got drunk in front of her husband. Under the anesthesia of alcohol, she accidentally exposed the true face of the hag.

From that day on, Freddie had doubts about his wife's identity, was afraid of the crazy crime he had committed, and planned to quit.

However, as soon as he showed his thoughts, the old witch found out and punished him severely. Afterwards, she even threatened:

"If I am caught by the police, I will confess that you are the mastermind, and your reputation will be ruined and you will not be able to escape the death penalty!"

Faced with his wife's vicious threats, Freddy knew that he had been on the pirate ship and could not turn back, so he had no choice but to change his mind and continue to work with this temptress to harm the homeless children.

"It's not a big deal, no one cares about those poor little bastards who were abandoned by their parents!"

Under the pressure of "guided confession", Carl Freddy no longer pretended to repent, but instead tried hysterically to prove that everything he did was reasonable.

"You gangsters! You are a group of scumbags who trample on the law. How do you have the right to stand on the moral high ground and judge me?!"

Carl Freddy's eyes were bloodshot and he roared.

"Open the window and take a look! Those ragged street children on the street, how do you think they survive?"

"Gangs of pickpocketing, robbery, abduction, pretending to be poor and begging, saping behind the scenes, and even selling their bodies... As long as they can make a living, these little tramps don't mind trampling on all morals and laws in the world!"

"When these little villains grow up, they will most likely continue their dirty and despicable criminal career and become gangsters and outlaws like you!"

"Such things happen in slums all the time, yesterday, today, and tomorrow!"

"Instead of letting these orphans who have mothers and no fathers grow up to be a scourge that disrupts the city's security, it is better to eliminate them as soon as possible and nip them in the bud!"

"Isn't it obvious?"

"Since orphans should not have been born into this world, and since their parents gave birth to them without their permission and abandoned them without their children's authorization, it would be better to drown the children right after they were born to save them from facing cruelty.

life!"

"This is not only beneficial to the majority of law-abiding people in the city, but also a relief to those lonely street children!"

"Since the vast majority of them are destined not to live a good life in this life and are destined to be unloved, why should they live like a deadbeat dog without dignity, suffer meaninglessly, and spread this evil through illegal crimes?

pain?"

"What Agatha and I do is to fill in the missing chain of 'natural selection and survival of the fittest' for human society!"

"Tell me, what are the uses of street children? What value can they create for our society?"

"They are useless! They cannot create any value! They will only erode the healthy social body like filthy garbage and embarrass decent people!"

"The work that Agatha and I have been doing over the years is like sanitation workers who clean up garbage. Although they are despised by people and do not get the respect they deserve, it is conducive to purifying the city and maintaining public order. Not only is it not wrong, it actually makes a big difference.

Contribute to this society!"

"You know in your heart that what I said is true. Killing these street children is the only effective way, just like killing rats and cockroaches!"

"But you will never admit it. Instead, you falsely claim that 'all lives are equally precious and worth cherishing.' That's bullshit! It's the most shameless lie if you don't admit that people are high or low!"

"You hypocrites are unwilling to get your hands dirty in order to achieve a higher level of humanitarianism, so just let me and Agatha be the scavengers in the darkness!"

Finally, Carl Freddy raised his head, with a fanatical light shining in his eyes, like a martyr about to die, and summarized what he had done.

"I, Carl Freddy, am willing to take responsibility for everything I have done without any guilt! Even in front of the Lord, I dare to say this!"

After hearing Carl Freddy's almost crazy remarks, Goofy felt both ridiculous and sad for him.

Carl Freddy was originally a respected officer, and his past honors on the battlefield proved that he was worthy of the title of "Warrior."

However, when he found out that he had boarded the pirate ship of the demon hag, he did not have the courage to reveal the truth. He used a set of anti-human and anti-social fallacies as an excuse to comfort himself, trying to justify and even sanctify the indiscriminate killing of innocent people.

His theory may sound reasonable, but it does not touch on the essence of the problem:

What factors lead to the huge gap between rich and poor in this bustling city?

What factors lead to the emergence of slums and street children in this society?

Carl Freddy did not dare to face up to these fundamental issues and did not dare to resist the powerful class who had truly created all these tragedies. Instead, he brutally killed the orphans on the streets.

A brave man is angry and draws his sword against the stronger one; a timid man is angry and draws his sword against the weaker one.

Carl Freddy's pursuit of this bullying philosophy only proves that he has transformed into a complete coward.

Demon hags only eat people to satisfy their appetites, and their evil is still at the superficial level of animalistic instincts.

As for Carl Freddy, from the beginning he was looking for excuses to excuse himself, but in the end he actually believed it, and his depravity was even greater than "cannibalism" in the literal sense.
