Chapter 9: Cave Shadow

Gao Fei couldn't figure it out for a while, so he asked Basaka to drag the dead black bear into the cave, first clear out a safe camping ground, then skin the bear and make a fire to roast it.

The space inside the cave is wider than expected, and the environment is relatively clean, making it suitable as a temporary residence for adventurers.

Gao Fei looked at the environment inside the cave through God's perspective, and soon discovered that the end of the cave was blocked by a clump of stalagmites.

There was a broken piece of cloth hanging from the tip of one of the stalagmites, which seemed to have been torn from clothes, which aroused his curiosity.

Could it be that before this cave was occupied by black bears, there were humans living on the deserted island?

Gao Fei guessed that the main plot line should be in the narrow and dark tunnel behind the stalagmites. He couldn't help but get excited and quickly called Basaka to come over and explore.

The gap between the stalagmites was too narrow for the bear to pass through, but Basaka could squeeze through sideways.

For safety reasons, Gao Fei first bought a torch soaked in whale oil from the system store, then took out the flint and steel seized from the orc jailer and lit the torch to illuminate it.

Gao Fei was worried that Basaka would fall into the old habit of being reckless and impulsive again, so he went into battle himself, switched to the first-person perspective, picked up a handful of gravel on the spot, and after taking two steps, he threw a stone deep into the tunnel to explore the way, causing him to startle.

The bats and mice hiding in the darkness screamed and fled, but no other dangerous creatures were found.

Just like this, holding the torch, he cautiously walked more than ten meters into the depths of the tunnel. Just as he was about to reach the end, a dark wind suddenly blew above his head, and then a black shadow fell from the sky, completely blocking Gao Fei's vision.

.

In addition to the boundless darkness, what made him even more horrified was that a soft and pliable thing swooped over under the cover of darkness, wrapping his head tightly like a sack, and he felt needle-like stings from the top of his head to his neck.

It hurts and breathing becomes more and more difficult.

Gao Fei hurriedly threw down the torch and freed his hands to desperately tear at the monster wrapped around his head.

Although invisible to the eyes, the prompts from the astrolabe were clearly transmitted to his mind, telling him that he must pass a DC15 strength test in order to get rid of the "Dark Veil Monster".

Basaka is currently in a state of exhaustion at level 1, and is at a disadvantage in the strength test. The double die is lower, which invisibly makes it more difficult to break free from the trap.

This time, Gao Fei's dice luck was really bad. He tried to break free for two consecutive rounds and failed, and was eventually strangled by the Dark Veil Monster...

Returning to the game interface again, Gao Fei was in shock, feeling both scared and regretful.

If I had known that there was such a despicable killer hidden deep in the cave, I should have spent an astrolabe energy to investigate the situation inside the cave in advance.

However, when I suddenly thought about it, I thought that the monster just now was so black that it was impossible to distinguish it from the rock. Even if the fog of war was dispelled in advance, it would probably still be attacked by a sneak attack.

It was already past 5 o'clock in the morning. Gao Fei hung up the phone first and went to the kitchen to boil a pot of hot water and make a cup of coffee.

There was some discounted bread bought in the supermarket the day before yesterday in the refrigerator. I took out two slices of toast and toasted them in a pan. I served them with fried eggs and coffee. I quickly finished this simple breakfast and returned to the game.

Gao Fei was not in a hurry to read the files. He opened the astrolabe database and checked the newly included monster illustrations. What caught his eye was a creature that looked like a giant squid.

This guy is the "Dark Veil Monster" who was the culprit who assassinated him just now. It is more than 1 meter long from the end of its tentacles to the top of its head and weighs about 15 kilograms. When its body is fully open, it looks like a gray umbrella.

Dark Veil Monster has 22 health points, the challenge level is 1/2 like the black bear, and its six attributes are:

Strength 16, Agility 12, Constitution 13, Intelligence 2, Perception 10, Charisma 5.

If Basaka is at full health, he is sure to win in a duel against the Dark Veil Monster. Unfortunately, he is injured, and the cunning monster is good at sneak attacks, so he will not be given a fair chance at all.

The Dark Veil Monster is accustomed to hiding in dark and narrow attics or cave domes, hanging upside down from the ceiling like a bat, with its film-like body curled up like a natural stalactite.

This monster is also good at mimicry, changing its skin color according to the color of the surrounding rocks, and completely blending into the environment. Even if you look closely, it is difficult to distinguish its camouflage.

In addition, the Dark Veil Monster also has an innate ability called "Dark Aura". Once turned on, the prey will become blind. Even if it has dark vision, it will not be able to see through this supernatural dark barrier.

The opponents that Goofy has encountered since entering the game, including orcs, vipers and cave bears, do not possess magical or supernatural abilities and can be won by physical combat.

The Dark Curtain Monster is different. This thing is the first "magical beast" he has met. Its innate ability "Dark Aura" is similar to the second-level magic "Darkness". Natural light sources such as torches cannot dispel the dark aura. The Dark Curtain Monster also has blindness.

It has visual ability and can echolocate like a bat. Fighting it in the dark is equivalent to destroying your eyes.

Gao Fei held the astrolabe and racked his brains to think about how to kill the Dark Veil Monster entrenched deep in the cave.

Basaka has already taken a short rest today. The level 1 character only has one hit die. He will not be able to regain health if he continues to take a short rest.

However, after much thought, Gao Fei felt that it would be better to take a short rest first, which could at least eliminate level 1 exhaustion, avoid disadvantages in the strength test, and at the same time prepare for launching "Rage".

But what to do after a short break?

Gao Fei found depressingly that he seemed to have fallen into a desperate situation.

It is obviously not a wise move to break into the cave directly.

Basaka only has 4 health points left, and he will die if he is hit by the Dark Veil Monster. Breaking through is basically a dead end.

Are we going to resort to the krypton gold method again and buy alchemy items from the system store?

This seems to be the only way, but there are not many gold coins left in Gao Fei's hand, and this game does not support recharge. He does not want to spend money to solve the problem unless he has to.

Just when he was hesitating, Gao Fei accidentally glanced at Basaka's status bar, his eyes lit up and he discovered a blind spot!

Basaka comes with three skills, "Movement", "Beast Taming" and "Intimidation". Among them, the "Beast Taming" skill can be used to appease livestock and wild animals. If you can pass the beast taming test, you can even obtain the power of the beast.

Favorability is like training a wolf into a dog.

Basaka's beast taming skill has a modification of 4, which is pretty good for a level 1 character. If he can pass the beast taming check to tame the cave-dwelling black bear, wouldn't he get a powerful thug?

Bringing the black bear to attack the Dark Veil Monster is absolutely easy!

This idea was a bit whimsical, but Gao Fei thought it was worth trying, and immediately went back to before hunting the black bear.
