Three days later, Ronald received a check for $10,000 from Roger Coleman, the largest single check he had ever received.
Expecting to receive a lot of checks from the advertising project, Ronald went to see his personal lawyer Lindsay Dole again.
Lindsay called and told him that he needed to sign the company registration, and the newly hired accountant also wanted to talk to him to see if his tax return information for this year was complete.
"This is your company registration document, and the name is Ronald Lee Film and Television Productions. This is the document to apply for a taxpayer identification number. This is the application to apply for an employer identification number, which is convenient for your employees to file taxes, including yourself.
This is the document to apply for a business license from the New York City government..."
Ronald followed the lawyer's instructions and signed a large pile of documents one by one.
"Then the paperwork here will be completed. Lawrence will take you to open a bank account, and then help you sort out last year's tax filing documents."
"Okay, thank you, Lindsay. You are getting busier and busier now. I have to make an appointment in advance to see you."
"Yeah, I'm too busy, my skin has become rough, and I have to go take care of it with my friends later." Lindsay Dole began to complain about too many things.
"Well, the lady's beauty care is the overriding need. I will call you if there are other things." Ronald said goodbye to the lawyer.
"Which bank do you prefer?" asked Lawrence Wang, Ronald's newly hired accountant.
After meeting several accountant candidates introduced by Lindsay Dole, Ronald chose a Chinese-American. His father came to New York after World War II and worked as an accountant for several wealthy Chinese-Americans. Lawrence, 30, inherited his father's business.
At many years old, since I married a white woman, I have become independent from the family business of several brothers and am no longer limited to Chinese customers.
Because of his ethnicity, he cannot receive many clients from other races, and now he still represents many small businesses in tax matters.
After Ronald discussed several candidates, it was Lawrence who had the most professional knowledge, was simple and direct, and very efficient. If it weren't for his ethnicity, which made him unable to please both sides in the Chinese and white worlds, his business would have been better.
.
Coupled with the ethnic factors of his previous life, Ronald decided to hire him to handle his and the company's tax issues.
"My personal account has always been with Wells Fargo."
"Then let's go to Wells Fargo and open an account."
Lawrence accompanied Ronald to open a business account, and then returned to Ronald's apartment to start sorting out his accounts for the past year to facilitate the tax filing season in April next year.
"Your information is very complete, and all checks you write are copied. This is a good habit. The company's accounts should be handled in this way in the future. It will save a lot of trouble in the future. Many small business owners are reluctant to make copies.
There will be some problems when filing tax returns. When the IRS checks it, it will be troublesome to distinguish. It is easy to handle the check with a balance."
"You post all the receipts in categories. This is also a good habit. If I hadn't seen your camera, I would have thought I met a colleague."
Lawrence was full of praise for Ronald's good habits.
"This... is just my habit." Ronald didn't know where this habit came from. Maybe I often had to reimburse myself in my previous life?"
"The income from your photography business in Los Angeles has been handled very well. I will help you file your tax return in New York next year. The IRS is unlikely to check you because of this. But starting next year, it is best not to handle your business income in New York State this way.
Yes. Cash is the biggest loophole in taxes. The IRS hires undercover agents every year and accepts reports from company employees. We can have other legal ways to deal with it."
"I don't know what you mean by Los Angeles business."
"You are being cautious, Ronald. But my father, two brothers, and a sister are all accountants, and after dinner, the family discussions were all about tax law and company accounting. You can trust my professional abilities."
, and I hope that I can use time to prove that I am worthy of your trust in the future."
"Okay, I'll do as you say, Lawrence."
Ronald likes Lawrence's style of dealing with things very much. Time will tell whether he is trustworthy or not. We will see.
Ronald gave Lawrence a cup of coffee, turned on the TV and watched a program while waiting for Lawrence to process the receipts and accounts.
"I've read it all. There are no other questions. Remember to collect the documents for the remaining two months. I can help you file your taxes next year." Lawrence picked up the coffee and took a sip.
"At 6 a.m. local time in Tehran on the 4th, hundreds of radical militants supported by the Grand Ayatollah stormed into the U.S. Embassy and took the staff hostage. It is reported that a total of 66 U.S. citizens were detained this time.
Detained during the incident..."
"Oh my god, are the Persians crazy? They actually attacked the embassy, which is protected by international treaties." Lawrence said.
"The Grand Ayatollah gave a speech, praising this action as a brave act against the 'Great Satan' (referring to the United States). The Grand Ayatollah also called on America to extradite the exiled former King Pahlavi back to Persia for trial. He also promised
, as long as Pahlavi returns to Persia, all hostages will be released."
Photos of the scene appeared on TV. A hostage was blindfolded, and a bearded Persian next to him was holding his leather bag.
"According to Persian TV reports, documents shredded by a paper shredder were found in the U.S. Embassy. After careful puzzle pieces, the Persian side claimed that these documents belonged to the U.S. State Department and the CIA, and were trying to conspire with the opposition within Persia to overthrow
The new Persian coalition government headed by the Grand Ayatollah."
Ronald was also shocked. These Persians were so sophisticated that they were not afraid of America.
…
"Ronald, do you want to sign?"
A few days later, Spike Lee came to see him.
"What to sign?"
"A statement calling on New York University and Columbia University not to succumb to the pressure of white racists and expel Persian students from the film department. At the last party, Amir, who was with Kathryn Bigelow, is of Persian descent and was expelled the day before yesterday.
Students from their school beat him up."
This chapter is not finished yet, please click the next page to continue reading the exciting content! "Well, this is something that the commander-in-chief should deal with, right? Why should we repatriate the Persian students, they, the Grand Ayatollah and those who took the hostages
, It doesn’t matter, right?”
"That's right, what you said is so right." Spike said to several classmates who came with him, "I said you will definitely sign, and his fraternity will not discriminate against blacks, Latinos, and other minorities.
.”
Ronald scrawled his signature on the petition, "It's useless for us to sign on this matter. Words are insignificant, so you have to find someone with a good reputation to sign."
"Yes, let's go find Martin Scorsese. He happens to be editing the new film in New York."
"Yes, go find Scorsese to sign it."
A group of people impulsively ran onto a minibus, and the car turned around and drove out of the campus.
"Who are they? Why do they act so impulsively?"
"A group of people from equal rights organizations are holding on to me, but luckily you were smart enough to coax them away. Let's go see Amir, he's at Catherine's place."
…
"Where's your beard? Amir?" Spike called after meeting Amir, a Persian student studying abroad, at Catherine's house.
Ronald also noticed that Amir had shaved off his Persian beard.
"It's really unlucky. I was beaten because of my beard," said Amir, who still had some bruises on his face.
"According to unnamed sources, the commander-in-chief is considering signing an executive order to stop oil imports from Persia, freeze the Persian government's $8 billion in U.S. banks, and expel all Persian college students staying in the United States back home."
Reports of a CBS special program came on the TV.
"Oh, my God." Amir covered his face, "I don't want to go back."
"Don't worry, Amir, people from the equality organization have spoken out for you today." Someone was comforting him.
But everyone knows that pressure from some racial elements is one thing. This is the commander-in-chief of one of the two major hegemons in the world today. If he speaks out, the school that accommodates Amir will be under great pressure.
"What should I do? My uncle worked for the Shah, and they had his head chopped off in Persia and imprisoned. Now America wants to expel me again. What have I done wrong? Both Persia and the United States consider me an enemy.
.”
There was fear in Amir's voice. He was a son of an official who came to the United States to learn how to make movies, and suddenly he became the enemy of the whole world.
"You can consider finding a lawyer and suing the US government." Someone gave Amir an idea to fight against the executive order that the commander-in-chief is about to issue.
"This won't work. The executive order can be challenged, but before it goes to court, Amir has been deported."
Some college students were still discussing ways to help Amir. Amir was even more frightened as he listened to his various endings.
"If the order is really given, why don't you run." Ronald said quietly to Amir.
"run?"
"America is such a big place and there are so many illegal immigrants. As long as you leave Columbia University, who can find you?"
As soon as he said this, Amir miraculously calmed down, "Yes, my ancestors ran from Armenia to Persia. They didn't start from scratch. This is nothing special."
"Persia released all women and African Americans, and the whereabouts of six more diplomats from the embassy are unknown. Persia denies detaining or executing these six diplomats. The White House and the State Department are expected to issue statements on this."
CBS was still broadcasting the latest developments of the hostage incident. Ronald was no longer interested in this. He took Spike Lee and returned to Tisch Academy. Spike heard the news that all the black hostages were released, and he did not have much intention to continue to participate in this matter.
.
"Did you see that? Spike" Ronald pointed to the window twice.
"Yes, many store windows have large American stars and stripes posted on them."
