Chapter 100 Your Customer My Customer

"What happened here?" Lindsay Dole, dressed in formal attire, had just arrived at Ronald's house from the court to work overtime to review the contract. She saw Ronald's door open, and there were several police officers inside, who were taking Ronald into custody.

Nader collected the scripts he wrote and put them into a document bag.

"I'm Ronald Lee's lawyer. Officers, what's going on here?"

A white police officer glanced at her and saw that she was a round-faced blonde beauty. He answered her question, "Your client is suspected of kidnapping and illegal detention and has been taken to the Southern District of Manhattan Police Station."

Lindsay saw that Ronald was being taken away without her. As she often dealt with the police, she knew that the case might be serious, so she immediately turned and walked towards the stairs, preparing to go to the Southern District of Manhattan Police Station to bail the person out.

"Are you Ronald's lawyer?" Lindsay saw a man and a woman walking by the stairs and blocking her way. The woman also had a round face and asked her identity.

"Who are you?" Lindsay turned to the two of them and looked back at the police officer at the door of Ronald's apartment, not far away.

"Don't get me wrong, we are CAA's agents, and we were waiting for you to sign the contract." Richard handed over a business card and identified himself.

"Before Ronald is taken away, let us find his lawyer and explain the situation." The three of them came to the Ukrainian restaurant opposite the apartment, and Richard took what he saw in the casting studio, Ronald and Pfeiffer's

The conflict between the two "agents" was told from beginning to end.

"Where is Miss Pfeiffer now?" Lindsay Dole saw the key points of the case at a glance. As long as Michelle Pfeiffer appears and can testify for Ronald, all problems will be solved.

"We don't know, but we heard that Ronald said he would take Michelle to his aunt's house."

"So those two liars were probably the informants who falsely accused Ronald to the New York Police Department." Lindsay quickly guessed who was behind the scenes.

"This matter can be big or small, it could be a report to vent their anger, or they could be watching us, trying to find out the whereabouts of Miss Pfeiffer, and then snatch her and escape from New York State before alerting the FBI, which can enforce law across state lines.

, they can try to control Miss Pfeiffer again and make her retract her confession. If so, Ronald will be very passive."

"How do you need us to cooperate?" Richard said the lines first.

"It doesn't matter, you just stay here temporarily, and then give me your hotel's contact information. We can't assume that the two suspects have no accomplices. They will probably follow us separately. You just need to stay in a safe place in the hotel."

"We're staying at the Holiday Inn." Richard took out the hotel's matchbox, wrote his room number on it, and handed it to lawyer Lindsay.

"Okay, I'll make two phone calls first."

"Karen? I'm Lindsay, Ronald's lawyer, right... He's fine, nothing happened. Those two crooks reported him for taking Michelle Pfeiffer away and hiding her...

…Okay, you don’t need to do anything, don’t call the police, wait for my colleagues to come over and then take action.”

Lindsay took out the change in her bag again and stuffed it into the pay phone.

"Bobby, this is Lindsay, and my client Ronald is involved in a criminal case, kidnapping and unlawful restraint. There is a search warrant for... and he was taken to the police station before seeing a lawyer."

"Lindsay, in this case, either your client has key evidence that is in the hands of the police, or a shocking case has occurred, and the police department is under pressure from above and is very urgent, regardless of procedural flaws."

"Bobby, could you use your connections with the NYPD and the District Attorney to find out what happened?"

"Are you so confident in your customers?" Bobby asked.

"Yes, because he is innocent. The client is actually at her aunt's house."

"Okay, where are you?...XXX Street in the East Village...I'll go ask Rudy first, and then meet you there."

Lindsay stuffed the coin for the third time.

"Helen? I have a favor that I need you to do."

"I'm still catching up on my sleep. Don't you know that lack of sleep is the natural enemy of a woman's beauty? Well, how can I help?"

"I have a client...can you ask what big case happened in New York today?"

"Okay, but you owe me a double spa treatment. Who is your client? Ronald Lee? Is he handsome?... Looks like the actor who played Superman? If you didn't tell me earlier... I'm hanging up. I've got news.

Your pager."

Lindsay Doerr drove to Ronald's aunt's house, leaving two CAA agents wondering what to do.

"Do you still want to sign Ronald as a client?" Paula asked Richard.

"Of course, why not? If I can sign a promising film screenwriter during my apprenticeship, I will consider it God's blessing. Why, you don't want to sign him?"

Paula shook her head, "I didn't mean that. I just care more about the sunshine boy in the casting studio. His face is very suitable for the movie screen and he is a star. I hope to talk to him."

"As long as Ronald is proven innocent, we can question him." Richard didn't think it was a rare thing, "So you're more optimistic about star actors, right?"

"Yes, stars are the cornerstone of Hollywood, and those who have stars have the box office."

"I quite agree with the boss's opinion. Now is a good time to enter a studio. Many studios have suffered serious losses. The new management in recent years have all jumped over from the television industry. For example, Paramount

Eisner, Frank Price of Columbia. What they need most is a good script, which is why good scripts in recent years can sell for astronomical prices of 200,000 to 300,000 US dollars."

"You did a great job in the training course." Paula couldn't tell whether it was a compliment or a criticism. "If you were asked to be Ronald Lee's main agent, would you be willing?"

Richard glanced at Paula in surprise, put down his knife and fork, and crossed his hands tightly: "What? Are you willing to give up your position as the main agent?"

If you don't fight with him, he will have no competition when he becomes Ronald Lee's main agent.

"Yes, Ronald is your client. If he is okay tonight."

"Conditions?" Richard is not naive, and Paula certainly has her conditions.

"Try to support me in business meetings from now on, and then... help me sign that sunshine boy as my client." Paula decided that if Ronald couldn't come out for the time being, she would go to the "Endless Love" crew to inquire. Anyway, the director

Zeffirelli is also a target of CAA's public relations. If you want him to switch jobs, it shouldn't be difficult to ask an unknown young actor his name.

"Deal." Richard agreed quickly.

"Lindsay!" A tall, bald black man jumped out of the corridor of Karen's house and called to Lindsay Dole.

Lindsay was not afraid at all. This was her law firm colleague Eugene, a former police officer and current lawyer. "Eugene, hello. Is the client in there?" Lindsay pointed to Karen's door.

"Yes, the client is Michelle Pfeiffer. She is telling Bobby about her situation." Bobby is Robert Donnell, a friend of Ronald's agent Eddie and the boss of Lindsay Law Firm.

"I will keep watch here. Those two vegetarian liars may follow you to find her."

"Thank you, Eugene." Lawyer Lindsay knocked on the door and entered Karen's home.

"Bobby, how's it going? What's the news from the police? Did Miss Pfeiffer say anything?" Lindsay pulled Bobby Donnell aside and asked about the situation.

"My teacher's friend Rudy once served as an assistant federal prosecutor. He is very well-connected in the Southern District of New York. The news is that the police's reckless actions were because the serial rapist and murderer committed another crime."

"Is that the one who looks like Bundy?" Lindsay still remembers Teddy Bundy, the serial rapist and murderer who was arrested and sentenced to death last year.

He had the appearance that women would love to date, and he was an honors student at the University of Washington. He used this appearance to rape and kill about 30 women in total. After he was taken into custody, some girls wooed him and they had sex in prison.

and give birth to a child.

"Yes, they gave him a nickname, Manhattan Bundy." Attorney Bobby Donnell said, "Your client, Ronald, exactly fits the psychological profile of the suspect. He is highly educated and good-looking.

Popular with women.”

"It doesn't matter, it's just a coincidence. As long as Miss Pfeiffer can provide testimony to the police, my client's innocence can be restored."

"I'm sorry, Lindsay, that this isn't possible in the short term. Ms. Pfeiffer is unable to provide testimony for your client right away."

"Why?" Lindsay asked very strangely.

"Because I have to be responsible for my client, providing testimony will expose my client's privacy, tobacco, alcohol, and drug addiction, which will have a very bad impact on an actress's career. Oh, I forgot to tell you,

Just now I officially represented Miss Michelle Pfeiffer, and she is now my client."

"Wade, Bobby, are you crazy?" Lindsay blurted out, "You can apply to the judge to testify anonymously, so that her privacy will not be exposed. And Michelle Pfeiffer has been defrauded of all her money.

Now, she may not even be able to pay your attorney fees."

"Yes, Lindsay, but it takes time, so I ask you to postpone Pfeiffer's testimony until tomorrow afternoon, and I will get the judge's permission. As for the attorney fees, I am just representing her for my conscience."

"No, it doesn't matter, I am willing to testify for Ronald." Michelle Pfeiffer heard the loud argument between the two lawyers in the room, opened the door and walked out. "Ronald was arrested because of me.

False accusation, I can't let him get into trouble."

"Your client said yes, Bobby."

"But I have to consider the best interests of my client. Michelle, let me explain to you slowly. It's not that I won't help Ronald, but I want to get guarantees to protect your privacy before I testify."

"You are a pedantic and idealistic lawyer who cannot receive legal fees." Lindsay said angrily.

"You are a realist lawyer who only has eyes for money and sometimes forgets your ideals."

"You! Don't forget who makes money for the office and pays the bills."

"Beep, beep, beep..." The pager in Lindsay Dole's bag rang, interrupting her argument with Bobby's lawyer.

"Hello, Helen." Lindsay called the assistant prosecutor of the Southern District of Manhattan, New York, her live-in best friend, Helen Gable.

"One piece of good news, and one piece of bad news." Helen said in a sexy, slightly hoarse voice.

"The good news is that they had no probable cause (Probable Cause) to arrest Ronald. It is easy for you to challenge the decision of the New York police to arrest him procedurally."

"What about the bad news?"

"The bad news is that he is suspected to be the serial killer Manhattan Bundy and is now being interrogated by the FBI Task Force. If you are unable to resist and plead guilty, you will be in great trouble.

Federal law enforcement has never cared much about violations of the Fourth Amendment, and they will take your client Ronald's case to federal court. Compared with state courts, federal courts tend not to use the Fourth Amendment's exclusion of unlawful arrest and interrogation.

Evidence obtained.”

(Content of the Fourth Amendment of the United States: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, homes, papers, and property against unreasonable searches and seizures, except upon reasonable cause and procedure, shall not be infringed.)

"I'm going to the FBI office. They can't keep Ronald in custody."

"Dang bang..." Aunt Karen stood at the door of the bedroom, and the coffee she brought for the lawyer fell to the floor. "Why was Ronald detained by the FBI?" Aunt Karen asked in a trembling voice.
