Chapter 280 Days of Studying with Coppola

Turning the clock back several months ago, Ronald became Coppola's special assistant in order to learn how to train actors' acting skills. The performance in "Fast Pace" was not very realistic, so he took the initiative to come to Coppola's

The crew of "The Naughty Boy" stole the show.

He happened to meet Diane Lane and her father Bert, who were chosen to play the heroine Cherry, at the airport. They both flew to Tulsa, Oklahoma, a small town from various places to film "The World".

"Outside Naughty Boy".

This is the hometown of Se. Hinton, the author of the original novel. She studied in high school here and wrote "The Naughty Boy" when she was fifteen. Then after a year of revision, it was published when she was sixteen and became

bestseller.

“Tulsa Grand Hotel.”

Ronald saw the sign and knew it was the hotel reserved by the crew, so he went to check in with several actors in the car.

"See you later, Ronald." Bert said goodbye to Ronald and went to find a room in another hotel first.

Bert was worried about his daughter this time, so he came to Tulsa to accompany his daughter during the filming. However, he was not an official member of the crew and had to find a hotel to stay in by himself.

Hinton helped find the hotel where the crew stayed. In fact, there was no need to look for it. There was only this big hotel near the filming location that could accommodate all the crew members.

The entrance to the hotel is a large fountain, with a cheap replica of an ancient Greek sculpture in the middle, nondescript. The water in the pool is relatively clean, in stark contrast to the dust on the sculpture, perhaps to welcome the great director Copper.

Pulled for temporary replacement.

The main building of the hotel is a five-story building. Some of the technical staff from the early stage have already moved in with various equipment, props, costumes, etc. The actors and creative staff who came today all arrived at about the same time and were checking in noisily at the front desk.

.

A group of young actors, who play two major teenage gangs in the movie, are waiting to get their room keys. The first assistant director starts calling people with the room assignment list.

Tom Cruise, 104; Patrick Thwaites, 105; Emilio Estevez 110;

Matt Dillon 202;

Diane Lane 305; Michelle Melink 306;

Leif Garrett 503; Darren Dalton 504;

"Everyone has half an hour to rest, and then go to Room 101 to collect today's pocket money."

Ronald himself lived on the first floor, in the far corner room. He opened the door, put down the package, and rested for a while.

I wonder if this room arrangement was decided by Coppola, which is very interesting.

The actors who played the wealthy Young Master Gang all lived in suites on the fourth and fifth floors. The actors who played the poor Oil Head Gang all lived in the low-end rooms on the first floor. Several teenage actresses lived on the middle floor, including

Diane Lane.

They are all teenage actors. In the movie, they play two opposing gangs, and Diane plays Cherry, who causes the war between the two gangs. She happens to live on the third floor in the middle.

"Ronald, come and help me." The first assistant director saw Ronald getting ready to go out and immediately pulled him in to work.

"This is the script. Please help me bind it with an iron ring."

Ronald stepped forward to help with the binding, checked the page numbers of the copied scripts, added a plastic cover, then punched holes with a punch, threaded them through with iron rings, and stacked them on the table in his room.

.

"Why are your scripts different?" Ronald finished a pile of his own scripts and began to help other assistants with their scripts.

This pile of scripts are made of different binding materials. Instead of using cheap iron rings after punching, they are threaded with copper rings. They are also covered with cowhide, with the movie title and everyone's name gilded on it. Hold it in your hand.

It feels good inside, like an old-fashioned hardcover book.

"This is for the actors from Gongzi Gang."

"Even the script needs to be treated differently?" Ronald was a little surprised. Director Coppola even considered this detail? "Why is this?"

"You still have a lot to learn, Ronald. Come here now." Francis Coppola walked in to check on the situation, happened to see Ronald there, and called him to his room.

"Ronald, you know that the budget of this movie is very high. We need to save some money from Warner. I can only give you 10% of the advance salary now."

"No problem, I told my agent that even if I pay, I will come to the set to learn from you. If there is anything, please just ask." Ronald heard that he was a little nervous about money and quickly said that he didn't care.

Coppola's peep show company had some financial problems. But Ronald came here to learn how to direct actors' acting skills, so these were all minor problems.

"I don't want you here to do work, but because I need your opinion, Ronald." Coppola was actually not very satisfied with his offer to help with chores. Coppola had as many assistants as he wanted to do such chores.

"It turns out that when George was on my crew, he had to give me advice every day, whether something was wrong here or there. If you could give me a useful advice like him every day, I would be satisfied."

Did George Lucas have so many opinions on Coppola every day when he was his little brother? Ronald overheard some gossip.

"Okay, I may not have more opinions than Mr. Lucas, but one opinion a day is not a big problem."

"Good boy. Now you go and help the camera crew prepare for tomorrow's rehearsal." Coppola patted Ronald on the shoulder.

It turns out that I still have to be a handyman, but a handyman who can give advice.

Ronald walked to find the camera crew's room. When he passed the door, he saw a large group of actors gathered at the door of the first assistant director's room on the first floor to receive the day's pocket money.

Huh? Ronald, who was watching the excitement at the door, discovered different treatment again.

Several actors from the Gongzi Gang are all teenage idols. They are accompanied by managers and have more pocket money. However, the actors from the Youtou Gang are not accompanied by managers and only have two dollars of pocket money a day. In this remote and backward small town,

Town, just enough to buy some snacks.

Ronald stroked his beard, Coppola was really interesting.

On the first day of reporting, he started to train the actors? By giving different treatments to the actors who played different roles, did he want them to experience the living conditions of the characters?

"Ronald? Nice to meet you." The director of photography pulled Ronald over, "Rehearsals will start tomorrow. Francis asked us to all record. The camera crew has not all arrived yet. If there is a need for multi-camera shooting, you can also help.

Use a video recorder."

"No problem." Ronald tried the Sony betacam video recorder in the room. He was already familiar with this kind of video recorder during the audition. He had spent a lot of time on the crew and worked part-time as a camera operator using video recorders.

No big problem.

After leaving the room, Ronald planned to go for a walk in the town. He happened to see Tom Cruise and a very handsome guy going out together. Ronald recognized him as the protagonist "Ponyboy"

The second brother is Rob Lowe of "Soda Pop".

"Hi, Tom, Rob." Ronald happened to be out with their car.

"Where are you going? Ronald, we're going with you."

"I haven't been to Tulsa either, but I know Ms. Hinton, the author of the original novel, and she is a local. Have you seen her? You can ask her."

Several people found the author Hinton who was also staying in the hotel. The fat Hinton enthusiastically hugged several actors and Ronald.

"Do you want to go shopping in the town? There are cinemas and restaurants. By the way, the cinema is the one I wrote about Ma Zai coming out of after watching the movie at the beginning of the novel. It has not changed in decades."

Ronald took the lead and it seemed that this town had few entertainment facilities.

"Hey, you guys, are you going to have dinner with us?" Leif Garrett, the youth star who played Bob, who was stabbed to death in the Gongzi Gang, smiled strangely at the actors here, "But you guys

My pocket money is not enough, hahaha.”

"Oh, shxt." Tom Cruise looked at the two dollars in his hand and put the money into his pocket in anger.

Robert Lowe also rolled his eyes, "How can I survive these two months?"

"It's okay, I have money." Ronald took out a few twenty-dollar bills from his pocket

Thanks to the reminder from his agent Niceta, Ronald brought a lot of cash to the backward town of Tulsa. There is no entertainment here and there is no place to spend money. There is a small shop in the hotel where you can buy some snacks.

and Coca-Cola, and the department stores in town didn’t sell much.

But now if you have money, you can have delicious food.

"I don't want to eat with those young men, so let's buy some Cokes and snacks here." Tom Cruise and Rob Lowe walked into the hotel's small shop and picked out some cakes, Cokes and snacks. Forget it.

He counted the money and threw back the other snacks.

"It's okay, come to Hinton's mother, I have delicious food here." Seeing all this, the fat author Hinton quickly greeted Tom Cruise and Rob Lowe to come in and eat what she had prepared.

delicious.

"Isn't this trick very useful?" Ronald couldn't help but admire him.

Just put the two actors in hotel rooms of different grades, use scripts with different bindings, and give pocket money according to the grades, and they will automatically regard themselves as different categories.

It cost nothing to do, but the effect was astonishing. The two teenage actors were already hostile to each other on the first day.

"Ronald, you come too."

Ronald also walked into Hinton's room. She secretly took out a large bag of snacks and opened them for several actors to choose from.

"Oh, you still have this here." Tom and Rob were both happy, "Thank you, Mother Hinton."

"Don't worry, if you have any questions, just come to Hinton's mother."

Ronald was amused. Hinton liked these actors to perform her novels very much. She also named herself as a screenwriter on the crew and would play a guest role as a nurse. In fact, she came to pamper these beautiful little actors.

There was positive differential treatment, and Xinton was asked to give them some conveniences. The crew are all teenage actors, and it is estimated that the two gangs will really take shape among the actors soon.

The old house of the hotel is made of wood, and the carpet in the upstairs corridor is very worn, and the sound insulation effect is very poor.

Ronald, who was sleeping in his room until midnight, was woken up by the sound of "dong-dong-dong".

He picked up the watch next to the bed and looked at it. It was only two o'clock in the morning. Ronald was so disturbed that he couldn't sleep, so he got up to take a look.

A thin figure, wearing a vest and jeans, kept walking in the corridor with his arms folded.

"Who is it?" Ronald shouted.

"It's me, Ralph. Ralph Marzio."

It turns out to be Ralph Marzio, who plays the protagonist's friend, Ponyboy. Although he is 20 years old this year and is considered older among many young actors, he still has an unopened look and looks better than Tom Clark.

Ruth and others appear small.

"Why don't you sleep and walk here?" Ronald asked strangely as he watched him walking around.

"I don't have a room."
