Chapter 11 Whale Song (Part 1): Pi

"92653. Is this question so simple?" Chabron said to the [Messaging Stone] at hand, snapped his fingers, released [Time Sequencing], and turned off the turn-based mode.

"92653?" At the communication gem at the other end, in front of the magic tower, Arya thought about the meaning of this string of numbers.

In order to avoid using the exhaustive method to solve the problem, as long as the password is entered incorrectly three times in a row, there will be a 15-minute cooling time - I don’t know how Mr. Duncan came up with this idea.

And just before, she had entered the wrong number twice.

After some thought (and after confirming that she really couldn't understand Chabron's train of thought), the girl with an orange mage finally decided to try this string of numbers first.

With the mentality of "even if the answer to the puzzle is wrong, it's just a 15-minute cooling down", Arya stretched out her slender, crystal-clear fingers and slowly touched the red numbers on the stone tablet.

"9"

The touched number lights up, showing a gorgeous red light.

Behind her, the mage Billalon, who had an intelligence adjustment value of 4 and a perception adjustment value of -2, did not hear the sound of the [Messaging Stone], but heard the series of numbers that Arya silently recited, and then he was also confused.

"2"

Bilaron led the invisible wind elemental creature and walked behind Arya. He saw her trying to touch the numbers on the stone tablet to solve the puzzle and open the door.

"6"

"Hey, little girl, I believe this is just a typical prank played by Mr. Duncan Shinestone as a dwarf."

"5"

"After trying hundreds of solutions over the past few months, we have concluded that there is probably no solution to this problem."

"3"

"No matter what you enter, there is no way to open the door. If you don't believe it, you..."

"Kacha!"

Crunch.

The door opened.

Billalon looked at the open door of the magic tower, and the reins in his hand fell to the ground.

---------------

3.141592653, isn’t this pi?

On the other side of the [Messaging Stone], Chabron, who was still on the train, couldn't understand why such a simple question was used. Even if he got to the 20th digit of pi, it would still be a bit difficult.

Chabron looked out the window at the receding scenery, his face reflected on the window glass.

Then, the handsome but slightly childish figure in the mirror frowned slightly and fell into deep thought:

"It seems too simple,

"As an intelligence professional, the mystery designed by Master Duncan is obviously not that simple. 92653 This answer should have been tried many times.

"If you just want to test the first few digits of pi, it would be better to set this as a question instead of first listing the five numbers 31415.

"As an infinite non-repeating decimal, there is no substantial connection between the first few numbers and the following numbers. Mr. Duncan listed the first five numbers, obviously asking us to find the pattern of the sequence, and then deduce the last five numbers.

“The purpose of deliberately using a familiar set of numbers is to mislead the answerer and make the answerer naturally think of pi!

"What a cunning mage, I almost got fooled!

"31415? What are the characteristics of this set of numbers? 31=4,41=5?

"Is this Mr. Duncan's little idea? If we continue to deduce according to the above ideas..."

[Messaging Stone] On the other end, the voice belonging to Arya interrupted Chabron's thoughts:

"Great! The door is open!

"The answer is really 92653!"

[System prompt: Puzzle solved, gain 600 experience points]

[Upgrade progress: 1500/6000]

[(Small print) Note: Priests of the God of Knowledge will gain experience points after solving difficult puzzles and exploring answers]

ah?

That's it?

Is it really 3141592653?

There are even experience points for solving puzzles. Just this kind of puzzle? High difficulty?

What on earth was I thinking just now?

The corners of Xia Bron's mouth twitched slightly, and his blue eyes were full of embarrassment. He didn't know whether he should complain that his IQ was too high or too low.

Chabron just stood there dumbfounded, not knowing what expression to show for a moment.

At first he was speechless.

Then there was dumbfounding.

Then there is a smile ready to breathe a sigh of relief.

The smile solidified.

Then came fear.

Also, the extreme cold that penetrates the bone marrow.

The young man's fear filled his emerald eyes, and his crystal-carved complexion turned pale.

"······PI······"

The smart Chabron had of course realized what this meant, and a thick numbness spread from his back to his whole body.

----------

After Bilaron shouted at the top of his voice, "Wow, everyone, come and see, the puzzle left by Professor Duncan Flashstone has been solved!" Within a few minutes, a small group of people gathered over - basically everyone.

Some students from the nearby Royal Academy of Magic.

"The horrifying mystery of the dwarf associate professor" is one of the favorite topics of conversation among students during the long curfew.

This made Arya somewhat at a loss.

"Mr. Duncan Shinestone's mystery solved?"

"I already said that the exhaustive method is useful."

"Do you think that girl is just like you, planning to try a hundred thousand times (10 to the 5th power) despite the cool-down period for wrong answers?"

"(Vulgar verb has been blocked)! Associate Professor Flashstone actually set the answer?"

"Wait a minute, so it's not a stone tablet that prompts 'wrong answer' when touching a number five times?"

---------------

Inside Duncan's Magic Tower, in the Binding Room.

"Tip: The door has been opened"

A gentle and cold voice sounded in the tower.

Duncan Flashstone had just finished calling the magic circle that summoned a certain devil, and his body trembled slightly when he heard the sound.

A group of black mist gushes out from the magic circle and quickly condenses into the shape of a white bone-shaped devil - its appearance is like a skinned humanoid creature, and its skeleton is tightly wrapped with dry skin. It is terrifying.

The creature is 3 meters tall, with a terrifying skull-like head and a scorpion tail, and the air around it is filled with a rotten and filthy smell.

[Bone Demon (Level 10/Purgatory Creature (Devil))]

"We meet again, Mr. Duncan - now, mortal, I have come at your call, and you must..."

"I'm sorry to interrupt!" The dwarf mage, who was only as tall as the Bone Demon's knees, turned around and waved his hand impatiently, "I have something urgent now, you can go back."

"Mortals, don't deceive me! I have come at your call, and you should know..."

"If you still hold on to your lame Ancient Common Tongue vocabulary, I swear I'm going to kick you in the shin with my boot the next time we meet. Yes, I swear."

The dwarf ignored the huge bone devil at all and looked directly at the papers plastered on the wall.

The dwarf mage's bondage room was in a mess, with many stacks of papers taped to the wall, including various designs of magic ships, as well as scrolls with yellowed ancient spells written on them.

Duncan Flashstone's eyes moved to a piece of plain kraft paper in the corner, on which was written knowledge that even children in the entire Rioli world knew -

"The length of the side opposite the 30-degree angle in the triangle is exactly [1/2] of the hypotenuse."

"The sum of the squares of two right-angled sides is exactly equal to the hypotenuse raised to the power [2]."

"Through a point outside the straight line, there is and is only [1] straight line parallel to the known straight line."

"The circumference of a circle is exactly [3] times the diameter of the circle."
