Chapter 502 Rolling Red Dust

Chapter 502 The rolling world of mortals

Everyone was very happy to catch the little white dragon! Otherwise, just climbing the mountain would be very tiring.

As he said, by focusing on other places, physical and mental fatigue will be reduced.

Long Teng looked at him distressedly, wondering if he was tired from crawling and talking like this? He opened the water in the bag and handed it to him.

He Huan took a sip and continued: "In Jizu Mountain, Kassapa is waiting for Maitreya with his clothes on his hands; at the Heart Lantern Festival, the sect leader looks up to Xuyun.

Xuyun became a monk at the age of 19. He traveled around the world and visited holy places. He left his footprints at home and abroad. In addition to traveling by boat, he traveled tens of thousands of miles on foot.

I have experienced the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, New China, the Opium War, the Boxer Rebellion, the Anti-Japanese War, etc. throughout my life. It can be said that I have been in troubled times throughout my life.

In such troubled times, he held fifteen monasteries, revitalized the six ancestral courts, inherited five Zen sects, had millions of followers, practiced asceticism for hundreds of years, and passed away at the age of 120. He was known as the master of Zen.

One of the six ancestral temples to be revitalized is Jizu Mountain. This is the Zhusheng Temple, the largest temple in Jizu Mountain that Xuyun raised funds to build."

Compared with the temples passing below, Zhusheng Temple is indeed more popular. Firstly, the temple is famous. Secondly, it is the end point for private cars, the starting point for sightseeing buses, and the starting point for most people on foot.

Next to it is Xianghui Street, which sells incense, eats, drinks and provides accommodation.

The hustle and bustle of the secular world and the incense of the holy land gather here. It is crowded with people. Buddhism and the world of mortals meet here. Fortunately, it is the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. If it had been the first day of the Lunar New Year, it would have been even more lively.

In such a place, the two of them did not dare to put the fairy down anymore. After walking through the Octagonal Pavilion of the Free Life Pond, He Huan said to the tourists and pilgrims behind him: "You go first."

I turned to a long corridor with few people and sat down.

Several people looked at it, followed the tour guide all the way, and wanted to continue, but they could see that Xiao Bailong was the tour guide hired by this girl.

It seems that this girl and her cat belong to a wealthy family. After walking for such a long time, they must take a rest. They can't keep it up!

I had to go in first.

He Huan also wanted to be alone with Miss Long, otherwise it would be inconvenient to hold hands. But he never chased tourists away. Tour guides treat tourists, even if they meet together for a while, it is fate. This is also another sense of connecting with sentient beings.

edge.

In many scenic spots, there will be tourists who try to mess with the tour guides. Some tour guides will be happy while others will be angry.

For He Huan, he is very happy when people come to listen to him, as long as his tourists don't care.

"The pavilions and pavilions here are built like a garden." Long Teng said.

"Isn't it? But this temple was actually built by Xu Yun himself by raising funds from abroad. It is the largest temple in Jizu Mountain.

When it comes to worshiping Buddha, many people just worship at the Main Hall and then leave. But in fact, many temple buildings are very unique.

The reason why temples have become tourist attractions is not just because of their religious functions. Cultural relics protection units like these are very historical and cultural."

It was so crowded inside now that the two of them didn't hurry, so they just walked around the pavilions and pavilions to the Sutra Library at the back to admire the calligraphy, paintings and inscriptions of famous people.

Sure enough, the front was bustling with people, while the back was deserted. It was very quiet.

"Zhusheng Temple is the largest temple in Jizu Mountain. But before Xuyun, when Xu Xiake came, he only mentioned it briefly. In the Ming Dynasty, it was called Yingxiang Temple, also called Bo Men'an.

Xuyun got married at the age of seventeen and became a monk at the age of nineteen. His old father, who was born in a single lineage, was so angry that he searched for him everywhere. But he hid in a cave and meditated. He did this for many years.

When he came out of the cave, things were changing, but he still couldn't figure out why. When he was confused, he received the guidance of a master and began to travel around the world.

When I became a monk as a young man, in addition to my love for Buddhism, I was also ignorant of worldly affairs. After I became a monk, I felt deeply ashamed of my parents.

In order to repay his parents' kindness, Xuyun kowtowed in three steps, which lasted for a year, from Putuo Mountain to Wutai Mountain. Later, he visited famous Buddhist holy places in famous mountains and rivers, paid homage to Emei, and entered the LS.

Then he crossed the Himalayas from LS and went to India to study Buddhism. In the Indian Buddhist classics, we found records of the Venerable Kassapa entering Jizu Mountain.

After returning home, the first stop was to Yunzhou, to visit Jizu Mountain to pay homage to the Venerable Kasyapa. Jizu Mountain had thirty-six temples and seventy-two nunneries when it was completely conquered in the Ming Dynasty. When Xuyun arrived, there were only a dozen descendants.

The temple does not allow outside monks to make orders."

"What is Zisun Temple?"

"The so-called Zisun Temple means that the monks do not abide by the precepts, and the temple is run like a family business. It is passed down from generation to generation, some rituals are performed, and some donations are collected. This is called Zisun Temple.

Originally, when monks traveled around the world, temples would welcome them for free, which was called Guangdou. But at that time, Jizu Mountain was a Zisun Temple. Although it was said to be a monk, it was actually the private property of the family.

There are many cases like this now. Especially temples in scenic spots recruit relatives to become monks, but they don't want outside monks to take orders for fear of sharing their money.

Nowadays, monks don’t like to be on the payroll either. They can no longer pay living expenses and are expelled from the job when they can’t survive. It’s similar to being fired. That’s also very desolate.”

Long Teng nodded.

"But Xuyun still climbed to the top of the mountain and worshiped devoutly at the Huashou Gate. Suddenly three bells rang from the stone gate, echoing in the empty valley for a long time. Xuyun made a vow to the Venerable Kassapa, and when the opportunity matures in the future, he will surely

Revitalize Jizu Mountain.”

The two walked slowly and talked at the same time.

"Xuyun continued to travel. Thirteen years later, Xuyun paid homage to Emei again and worshiped Jizu. He was 62 years old at this time. Jizu Mountain is still the temple of descendants.

At that time, Xuyun came twice and was in such a situation. He had no place to live and was meditating under a tree. Although he wanted to revitalize Kasyapa Dojo, the opportunity never came.

Xuyun went to Chuncheng for seclusion again to celebrate the New Year. After leaving seclusion, he gave lectures and sermons in major temples in Chuncheng. He left his footprints in the famous Qiongzhu Temple and Huating Temple in Chuncheng.

As his reputation grew, the admiral of Dali invited him to give lectures at Chongsheng Temple, where he converted thousands of people. The admiral asked him to preside over Chongsheng Temple.

Xuyun declined politely, saying that he wanted to revive Kasyapa Dojo in Jizu Mountain. Everyone praised him for his kindness, and under the escort of the admiral, he arrived at Jizu Mountain. Accompanied by the local magistrate, he found a dilapidated temple to stay in.

This is Bo Yuan. The admiral and the magistrate escorted the temple. The Zisun Temple could not say that Jizu Mountain was theirs and forbade him to stay. The third time, finally, the opportunity came.

Xuyun cut bamboos and moved stones to build the temple every day. Whenever four disciples came to the mountain, they were received according to the rules of the Shifang Jungle.

He also preached scriptures and influenced the fake monks of Zisun Temple. Only then did the monks of Zisun Temple realize: Oh! It turns out that to be a monk, you have to wear monk's robes and abide by the precepts!

Gradually, Jizushan Temple began to have rules, and Xuyun was also highly respected. There were rules, but there had to be a place for rules. The temple was still so desolate and dilapidated that it could not be built by monks alone, but by relying on believers, Yunzhou was really

Too poor.

So Xuyun went to Nanyang to give lectures and raise funds. At this time, the monks in Yunzhou called and said that the government wanted to expropriate the temple property and asked him to return to the mountain as soon as possible. Monks in other places also urged him to return to the country for negotiation.

Xuyun had been walking all his life. At this time, he urgently arrived in Shanghai by ferry and went to Beijing with other monks to petition. In the capital, he was received by Prince Su, and a bunch of princes and ministers he had met in the past came to help and study how to write a memorial to the emperor.

With the help of these powerful protectors, Emperor Guangxu issued a decree that local governments were not allowed to donate temple property, and the turmoil came to an end.

Xuyun also took the opportunity to ask for "Long Zang", which is a Buddhist classic published by the royal family. He said that it was available everywhere, but not in Yunzhou.

Emperor Guangxu agreed, and also gave him purple clothes, a jade seal, the title of Bo Men'an as a Zen temple to protect the country, and the title of Xuyun as the master of Buddha's kindness and propagation of Dharma.

With this big cheat, who would dare to touch the Zhusheng Temple? At that time, Xuyun was famous all over the world. He took the scriptures given by the emperor with peace of mind, and went to Nanyang, and continued to Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand to preach the scriptures.

Thailand itself is a country where Buddhism flourishes, but it is Southern Buddhism. There are also many eminent monks and masters, so Xuyun was not taken seriously at first.

Until one day when he was giving a sutra lecture at Longquan Temple, Xuyun sat down in meditation for nine days, causing a sensation in Bangkok. From the princes and nobles to the common people, they all came to donate money and materials. The king invited him to the palace to give a sutra lecture.

Two years later, the old monk Xuyun returned to Jizu Mountain via the Ancient Tea Horse Road with 300 horses pulling the donated materials, and rebuilt the Zhusheng Temple, including other temples.

So it can be said that the Jizu Mountain Temple was funded by Thai believers! Jizu Mountain is also famous in South Asian Buddhist circles, except for Kasyapa, because of Xuyun.

Xuyun finally fulfilled the wish he made for the first time at Huashoumen and revitalized Kasyapa Dojo, Jizu Mountain.

However, there was an emperor and a monk, and Buddhism relied on politics. In the first year of the Republic of China, society was in turmoil and the people suffered.

Monks can no longer rely on the government and the public for support. Xuyun opened a Buddhist church in Jizu Mountain to promote monks and diligent farmers. See, in extraordinary times, you can also practice Zen while doing farm work.

In short, it is self-reliance. However, most monks have been practicing in monasteries for a long time and are supported by donors. They really cannot do farm work. People are beginning to dislike them. All over the country, monks are being expelled and temples are being destroyed.

This is not a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence in the history of our country. We can support you in times of peace, but you cannot sit there and recite scriptures in times of chaos. Religion must rely on politics.

General Li Gengen, who was the military and political chief of Yunzhou at the time, personally led his troops to various parts of the province to confiscate temple properties, drive out monks and destroy temples.

General Li had heard of Xu Yun's name for a long time, and he had been sealed by Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. He believed that Xu Yun was a remnant of the Qing Dynasty, and named him for arrest.

The monks and nuns in Jizu Mountain were restless and frightened. They persuaded the old monk Xuyun to escape together. Xuyun said: "If you want to run, just run. If you deserve to die because of karma, what's the use of running? It's better to die as a martyr!" Everyone listened.

After that, they all stayed in the temple and did not run away.

In August, General Li Gengen indeed led his troops to Jizu Mountain, garrisoned Xitan Temple, and began to frantically demolish the temple and destroy the Buddha.

The situation was critical, so Xuyun went to Xitan Temple alone to see General Li. General Li slapped the case and roared: What is the use of Buddhism? What is the benefit?

Xuyun replied: Saints set up teachings to help the world and benefit the people, and do good and eliminate evil. Since ancient times, politics and religion have gone hand in hand. Government is to harmonize the people, and education is to transform the people. Buddhism teaches people to govern their hearts. The heart is the foundation of all things. It must be righteous and all things can be at peace.

, and the world is at peace!

Religion has always been used for political purposes. Xuyun first read Confucianism and then Buddhist scriptures, so he understands this truth very well.

General Li's face and tone improved at that time, and he asked again: What do you need these clay and wood sculptures for? It's a waste of money!

Xuyun said: It arouses a sense of awe! If people's hearts are not awe-inspiring, they will do all kinds of evil and evil, and disasters will result. Our country's clan ancestral halls and statues from all over the world can make the heart have something to return to, and the faith can have something to rely on, and the effect is incredible.

General Li smiled and ordered everyone to bring tea and snacks. He asked kindly: Why did the monk not do good deeds, but did many bad deeds and became a national waste?

Xuyun said: Monk is a general term, which is different from ordinary saints. You cannot abandon all monks because one or two monks are not good. Just like you cannot scold Confucius and kill all the scholars just because one or two scholars are not good.

Even if you, the general, lead the army and have strict military discipline, not all of them are as smart and upright as you, the general! Can we punish and disband the army for this?

The sea does not abandon fish and shrimps, so it is big. Buddhism regards nature as the sea and tolerates nothing. The monks uphold the Buddha's transformation, protect the Three Jewels, and transform it subtly. Its functions are manifest, and it is not a waste!

Look, look, how eloquent you are!

General Li Genyuan was overjoyed after hearing this. If you want to use this metaphor, I can understand it.

After a deep conversation, they had dinner together, and listened to the old monk's explanation of cause and effect. General Li regretted: It turns out that Buddhism is so profound and subtle. I have killed monks and destroyed temples, and my bad karma has increased. What should I do?

Xuyun said: This is caused by a temporary trend, and it is not your fault. As long as you make a vow to protect it in the future, the merits will be immeasurable!

Look at it! How eloquent! Compared to those believers today who are always cursing!

General Li was overjoyed when the knot in his heart was relieved. He begged the old monk Xuyun to teach him the Three Refuges, and he became a lay disciple studying Buddhism at home. From then on, he became a powerful protector of the Buddhist community in Yunzhou."

Long Teng was fascinated by what he heard, and the two of them stayed in the quiet corridor for a long time.

It was gradually noon, some went to eat at the Zhusheng Temple Zhaitang, and some went to Xianghui Street next to it.

He Huan looked at Long Teng, "Are you hungry?"

Long Teng shook his head.

"Then they go to eat and we go to worship Buddha."

He Huan put the fairy into the cat bag, and the two of them got up and went to the Main Hall. The crowds were bustling, like a tide, and by the time of meal, they had receded.

Even Buddha can't stop people from eating!

The courtyard in front of the main hall was much empty. There were still about ten people offering incense and worshiping Buddha.

Seeing Xiao Bailong come in with an extremely beautiful girl, it is inevitable to take a second look, but after all, everyone is here to worship Buddha, not Xiao Bailong.

Therefore, after a happy occasion, everyone worships his/her own.

Although it is a Chinese Buddhist temple, it is also filled with colorful prayer flags. The lama who takes three steps and kowtows once has also arrived and is prostrating himself on the ground.

He Huan was not in a hurry and stopped in front of the palace, "These two cypress trees were planted by Xu Yun himself. You see one is lush and the other is sparse. The sparse one was struck by lightning, but it is magical.

The earth grew together and survived."

Long Teng looked up at the cypress tree with a trace of fireworks reaching into the sky in the center, feeling silent in his heart.

Looking forward, you can see the Yinguang Palace, the Main Hall, the Mt. Lingyue, and the inscriptions on the three gold plaques indicate the glory of the Zhusheng Temple.

"These three inscriptions are from Sun Yat-sen, Zhao Puchu, and Liang Qichao respectively. Drinking light means Venerable Kassapa, also known as Drinking Light Buddha. Drinking light is like this, and the mountains are shining brightly, which means that Kasyapa Dojo has been revitalized.

This was also during the turmoil at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. In order to protect the Kasyapa Dojo, Xuyun invited a new protector. The Republic of China also invited protector Li Da.

After the transition from old to new, it was rebuilt in the 1980s and established as a national key temple for Chinese Buddhism."

Long Teng looked at the cypress tree that had been struck by lightning and reached straight into the blue sky. The experience of the Jizu Mountain Temple was as rough as that of the old monk Xuyun! The old monk Xuyun was just like the wheel of history, rolling through the world of mortals for three times!

The two washed their hands, took incense, finished offering the incense, and entered the palace.

"The Sakyamuni Buddha enshrined in the Mahavira Hall is different from what we are used to seeing. You see, he is holding a Brahma flower, and beside him are Kassapa and Ananda. You see, Kassapa is smiling.

This is the famous flower-carrying smile."

After worshiping the Buddha, the two of them paid their respects to the merit box and walked around the area.

"This is the Five Hundred Arhats, imitated from the Qiongzhu Temple in Spring City. You can see that they are obviously Chinese, and they are all wearing Hanfu from the Ming and Qing Dynasties."

Most people worship Buddha and don't know which Buddha is responsible for what, so they worship gods and Buddhas all over the sky. Following He Huan, Long Teng at least got to know each Buddha and Bodhisattva.

But he could also name some Arhats and tell them their origins. Long Teng couldn't help but look at him sideways.

She doesn't know how to become a monk, but he talks about Buddhism very clearly, can recite a few passages from scriptures, and knows all the gods and Buddhas in the world. I'm afraid he won't be able to stay in the human world.

Suddenly she took his hand.
