Chapter 510: Little White Dragon Brings a Group of Monks Down the Mountain
Chapter 510 Xiao Bailong led a group of monks down the mountain
He Huan smiled and said: "The World Honored One has traveled all his life and has no fixed residence. Xuanzang traveled westward and brought Mahayana Buddhism to our country. The old monk Xuyun traveled tens of thousands, revitalized the six ancestral courts, and established monasteries all over the place, but he had nowhere to live."
He Huan turned to look at Chengkong, "I never taught Chengkong to go down the mountain, but I admire him for making this decision. If you don't enter the world of mortals, how can you see through the world of mortals? Focus on practicing Buddhism and ignore other things.
, is also a kind of self-grasping. On the contrary, it is not conducive to spiritual practice."
The host smiled and nodded, "But it's not easy to be a monk now. You can sit in the temple and wait for believers to come to your door, and you can still get donations. If you go out to beg for alms, you can easily be regarded as a liar. Not every temple is willing to accept orders from outside monks.
"
Seeing the host being so straightforward, He Huan smiled and said: "It's okay, I don't know the way yet, so I will still be a tour guide. Chengkong is a learned man, and it is time for him to combine knowledge and action. Who can he save by reading the scriptures? What can he understand?"
?
Although there are not many people who respect the Three Jewels now, the world is much safer than that of the old monk Xuyun. There are fewer people who believe in Buddha and monks, and it is not just because of all living beings. Don’t monks have responsibilities?"
The host looked at him with burning eyes.
Chengkong turned to look at him with admiration.
"In the age of the Dharma Ending, there is an even greater need for truly virtuous monks to influence all living beings. Isn't this exactly what is written on the door of Jinding Temple: Benevolence, Happiness and Sentence?
If you want to become Buddhas, dragons, and elephants, you must first become cattle, horses, and sentient beings. Isn't this the fundamental essence of Mahayana Buddhism: Only by universally saving all sentient beings can you finally become a Buddha?
Sitting in a meditation room deep in the mountains, waiting for sentient beings to make offerings, this is not called forming a predestined relationship with all sentient beings. If you don't have a predestined relationship, you won't be able to do it. If you can't do it, you won't respect it. If the world doesn't respect it, then all dharma will fall."
The host looked at him without blinking. Chengkong's eyes were bright and he was delighted. He was determined to become a virtuous and eminent monk in the era of the end of Dharma!
The host asked again: "Before his death, the old monk Xuyun left a word: precepts. What does the donor mean?"
"Old Monk Xuyun doesn't believe that you can avoid being confused by this world that is developing too fast, so I have to teach you a stupid way, quit.
However, he himself was enshrined by the emperor's relatives, respected by military and political celebrities, and was beaten all over his body. He came through prosperity and hardship, persisted in hard training, and remained unchanged.
He has truly achieved the goal of not being lascivious to wealth, not being able to move away from poverty, and not being able to surrender to power, so he became a great virtuous monk. How many people can do this?"
The host looked at him for a long time, Chengkong looked at him with a happy face.
He Huan also looked at him with a smile, "When the World Honored One had few disciples, everyone practiced sincerely and did not set any precepts. Gradually, as the number of disciples increased, precepts appeared. Precepts were originally meant for ordinary monks.
Just like the law, it is the final bottom line for the world. But to be a good person, you also need morality. To be a saint, you need great wisdom, benevolence and virtue.
With a little light in your heart, you will see a bright world, so there is no need to be disciplined. When the breeze blows, your heart will sway, or even burn like a flame, so you need a lampshade.
Precepts are just the bottom line for being a monk."
The Lord looked at him for a long time, Chengkong smiled with admiration.
He Huan looked at him and said, "Know the difficulties and do it. When you step out of the mountain gate with a clear sky, you will be immeasurable."
Chengkong bowed to him and then to the host, "Brother the host, I'm going down the mountain."
The host nodded thoughtfully.
The three of them turned and left.
The host also turned around and looked at their backs.
At Chengkong's request, the three of them went down the Jishen Gorge from the back. Passing by the Sheshen Cliff, which was covered with prayer flags, a nearly ninety-degree ladder was dug out of the cliff, sandwiched in a crack in the rocks and allowing only one person to pass.
At this time, the clouds and mist have not dissipated and are rolling over the mountains. It really feels like going from the outside world to the earthly world.
Chengkong walked in front, while He Huan pulled Long Teng and walked cautiously behind, "The Shuishen Gorge is said to have been built by the Venerable Kassapa when he opened the mountain. When going down the mountain, you can only squeeze through it sideways, in order to remind believers to restrain themselves and do good deeds to benefit their lives."
Long Teng looked at Chengkong in front of him and understood why he wanted to take this path.
After walking through the narrow and steep Shushen Gorge, we arrived at Huashoumen. We saw the lama we had met yesterday when we went up the mountain, and finally arrived in front of the Buddha. The monks who came down the mountain and the monks who came up put their robes on the ground and kowtowed to the ground.
After leaving Huashoumen, they did not go into the Bronze Buddha Hall and went straight to Kasyapa Hall. He Huan pulled Long Teng and walked slowly. Although it was faster to go down the mountain, if it was too fast, the legs would not be able to withstand it.
When I arrived at the gate of Kasyapa Hall, I saw Master Yingkong standing in the clouds and mist, twisting Buddhist beads.
He Huan smiled, the monk was indeed waiting for him!
"Amitabha, the donor is here."
He Huan looked at Chengkong with a smile, "Not only am I here, I'm also bringing you someone!"
Chengkong greeted: "Senior Brother Yingkong, I want to go down the mountain to travel and come to say goodbye to you."
"Ah?" Yingkong was slightly surprised. He looked at He Huan and was no longer surprised. He smiled and said, "Please come in and have some snacks."
After listening to Xu Xiake's comments about the monk, the monk became more and more polite! He Huan smiled and said: "I won't sit down anymore. I was too tired when I went up the mountain. I didn't visit several temples. I plan to go to Fangguang Temple next to it."
"I'll go with you." Yingkong walked down the steps.
He Huan and Chengkong were very happy. They talked and laughed and walked towards Fangguang Temple located directly below Huashou Gate.
Standing in front of the mountain gate shrouded in mist in the woods, looking up, the Huashou Gate is looming.
The building of Fangguang Temple is not like other temples that are integrated into one, with several layers and several entrances. It is very regular. It is located on the mountain and next to the forest. The mountain gate is independent in the woods and there is no wall. It is more like an archway. From the side, it can also be seen from the side.
You can go inside.
He Huan looked at the two monks and said, "Two masters, please see, is there a door here or no door?"
Yingkong smiled and said: "When you go in, there is a door, but when you come out, there is no door."
He Huan said: "Nowadays, many temples are built like palaces, with high walls and deep courtyards, isolated from the world. I think Fangguang Temple has a door but seems to have no door. It stands in the secular world, which has quite an artistic conception."
Walking into the mountain gate, passing by the crescent-shaped release pond, there is a house in the east and a hall in the west in the misty woods. It is very casual and very harmonious.
In terms of artistic conception alone, apart from the Pangxi Residence that has not yet been built, He Huan feels that Fangguang Temple is indeed unique and he likes it very much.
Longteng is also very pleasant. It doesn't even look like a temple. If there wasn't the specious mountain gate with a name inscribed in front of it, ordinary tourists might think this is a park.
Finally, we saw the vermilion-red main hall hidden in the woods, showing the solemn style of Buddhism. We finally saw the monks.
Seeing the two monks Yingkong and Chengkong coming in accompanied by the two young donors, the monks holding incense in front of the temple were also a little surprised, thinking that they were some big shots. They hurriedly came over to greet them.
After hearing the introduction, he was neither a big shot nor a layman, so he was very confused.
However, when He Huan talked about the history of Fangguang Temple, the monk smiled and understood.
"Everyone knows that there is a wonderful scene in Jizu Mountain, which emits light once every six hundred years. The place where the light shines is Fangguang Temple. Fangguang Temple is located in the hinterland of Jizu Mountain, under the Huashou Gate. Because of the light, it became Jizu Mountain.
One of the top ten ancient temples in Zushan.
The unique geographical location of these four ancient temples, Kasyapa Hall, Bronze Buddha Hall, Fangguang Temple, and Huashou Gate, forms a magical landscape. This is famous: Kasyapa lights up the lamp, and Huashou emits light."
He Huan knew the history of the temple and the eminent monks of the past dynasties very well. After entering the main hall, he was very familiar with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas enshrined and the historical and cultural allusions of Buddhism.
The three monks were all smiling when they heard this.
So when we came out of Fangguang Temple, there was another monk behind us. Miss Long became the only girl.
Fortunately, being surrounded by three monks, He Huan was afraid that she would fall behind and held her hand. The monks were not surprised.
We arrived next to Hui Deng Temple. Because He Huan said there were still a few temples on the sightseeing bus route that he had not visited, so three monks also accompanied him on the sightseeing bus. They went to buy tickets first.
The conductor looked at it and said, "Xiao Bailong! You don't need the money anymore."
"And her." He Huan pulled Long Teng.
"Tourist?"
"My girlfriend."
"Ah?" The conductor looked at Long Teng again, who lowered his head with a red face. The conductor came to his senses and said, "No more money."
He Huan stepped aside again, "There are them too."
The conductor looked at several monks. Scenic spots and temples are in charge of their own affairs. Monks generally do not take sightseeing cars and cable cars. They either use their own cars, walk or pay money. You are a monk and you are not here to enjoy it. Does it take up resources?
But now looking at the monks behind Xiao Bailong, the conductor was stunned and hesitated: "I want to ask for instructions."
He Huan waited with a smile, and the conductor immediately called: "Xiao Bailong is taking three monks down the mountain and wants to take a sightseeing bus. Do I charge money or not?"
"ah!"
He Huan heard the tremor.
Smiling, he watched her hang up the phone, stood up and said, "No, Xiao Bailong. When are you free? Our leader wants to treat you to dinner."
"I don't have time." He Huan said, turned around and left with the monks.
The conductor covered his face, what the hell! I don’t have time to treat you to a meal, but you have time to ride with the monk in the car!
Yingkong looked at him, "The donor is very discerning!"
He Huan was speechless, but also smiled and said: "Yes, there are many people inviting me to dinner, so we have to make them line up, right?"
How extraordinary! Several monks laughed.
The female bodyguard was waiting for them to come out in the morning but she didn't see them. It was so foggy that she couldn't see the road and people below, so she had to take the cable car down first to keep watch. She finally waited for them.
Unexpectedly, they were accompanied by a group of monks! They were even holding hands!
What kind of Buddhist pure land is this? Can this be tolerated? Is this a serious monk?
Can he be a good monk if he associates with a sea king like Xiao Bailong? He really failed to live up to the reputation of Jizu Mountain!
The female bodyguard quickly called the boss: "Xiao Bailong and Miss Long came down the mountain, taking a group of monks with them."
"Ah!" There was another tremor.
However, He Huan didn't hear it and took a few monks to the sightseeing bus. He Huan then remembered that he didn't get free tickets! He could only rely on his face and explained to the driver: "We..."
Before he finished speaking, the driver nodded blankly, "I understand, please get in the car."
The driver of the sightseeing bus and other tourists looked at them blankly. What was Xiao Bailong doing with a few monks?
Several people remained silent and admired the surrounding scenery. Yingkong mentioned Huayan Temple, and He Huan asked the driver to stop the car and took the monks down.
The driver and tourists watched them blankly as they walked into the forest. What were they doing? So mysterious! So curious!
"Huayan Temple was founded by Nanjing monk Yuetan, so it is also called Nanjing Nunnery. The monks of Jizushan in the Ming Dynasty mainly came from Nanjing, the capital of Shaanxi. Temples are often named after the place where the monks came.
Shaanxi is represented by Mingkong, and the capital is represented by Huankong. After the establishment of the Moon Lake in the Jiajing year, the Nanjing nunnery expanded into the Jizushan temple in the Wanli calendar, and the Empress Dowager Cisheng gave it the Tibetan Sutra.
Later, it was destroyed by fire, and there were no descendants after Yuelun until Yechi, Yuelun's apprentice, rebuilt it. When Xu Xiake came to visit, Yechi was already over seventy years old. Hearing that he was compiling "Jizu Mountain Chronicles", he wrote "Jizu Mountain Chronicles"
"Qingliang Tongzhuan" was lent to him."
Walking through the forest to the ruins of Huayan Temple, there is no trace of the gift of books three hundred years ago. There are only fallen leaves and moss buried in bricks and soil, covered with frost and snow.
Everyone stopped.
He Huan lamented: "At the end, thousands of peaks look cold. When you come here, you will smile. This is the couplet of Huayan Temple at that time. Look."
Everyone turned around and looked around. The couplet was not there, but the scenery written in the couplet was there.
"A tiny speck of dust reflects the world, and a moment contains eternity." He Huan held Long Teng's hand and stepped on the thick fallen leaves, "When you are with the one you like, every plant and tree will be lively and lovely, and your whole life will last in the blink of an eye.
.If you face someone you don’t like, you will see only troubles and your days will feel like years.”
The monks looked at him, how could they understand him like this? Then they looked at the hand he was holding, oh, he could understand him like this.
"This sentence comes from the Huayan Sutra, which is one of the Buddhist classics. It is a sutra taught by Sakyamuni Buddha to the Bodhisattvas. It is also the work that opened the door to the Huayan Sect. The famous one flower, one world, and one leaf, one Tathagata, also come from
In the Avatamsaka Sutra.”
The monks were amazed as they wandered among the ruins. Big trees collapsed on the ruins, and thick leaves and dust buried the outline. The original grand scene was no longer there.
"All the dust in the Huayan world can see the Dharma Realm in each dust." He Huan said, "Li Bo, the governor of Jiangzhou in the Tang Dynasty, once asked Zen Master Zhichang:
"Vimalakirti Sutra" says, "Sumiru hides mustard seeds, and mustard seeds absorb Sumeru." You monks really have no common sense! It is understandable that Sumeru hides mustard seeds. How can a small mustard seed accommodate a Mount Sumeru?
Zen Master Zhichang asked Li Bo: Everyone said that you have read more than ten thousand volumes, is it true? Li Bo replied: Of course!
Zen Master Zhichang said: Then where are the books you read? Li Bo pointed to his head: Of course it is here.
Zen Master Zhichang said: I see your head is only as big as a coconut, how can it hold ten thousand volumes of books? Li Bo achieved great enlightenment at that time."
Several monks also laughed.
He Huan said with a smile: "Monks, monks, originally the relationship between monks and lay people only had worship and enlightenment, but in terms of ideology, it was still export and acceptance.
Then there was a rich man in India, Vimalakirti, who understood Buddhism very well, was good at debating, and was highly respected by the World Honored One. He enjoyed all the glory, had a wife and children, but he was a lay bodhisattva.
It is the idol of Wang Wei, the great poet of the Tang Dynasty. Therefore, Wang Wei, nicknamed Mojie, directly used the name of the idol. What Vimalakirti said at that time was compiled into the "Vimalakirti Sutra".
Because this lay bodhisattva always said some Buddhist sayings that were easy to understand and explained in a simple way, he started the trend of practicing at home and also ushered in the era of debate and communication between literati and monks."
Several monks looked at him with smiles.
"Each sect of Buddhism has one or two classics that it adheres to. One flower and one world, one leaf and one Bodhi. Flowers, flowers and leaves are connected to each other. Therefore, many theories of each sect complement each other and demonstrate each other."
Several monks nodded.
"Buddhism often uses Sumeru as a metaphor for the extremely large and mustard seeds as a metaphor for the extremely small. The world is made up of many tiny things, and even though they are tiny, they are a world of their own. Therefore, Buddhist scriptures also contain dialectical materialism."
Chengkong looked at the old site covered by forest and recited silently: "Yuan Xin, Yuan Jie, Yuan Xing, Yuan Zheng." His belief in proving through actions became even stronger.
"Just like a lotus flower cannot touch the water, just like the sun and moon cannot stay in the sky." He Huan turned around and said, "Let's go."
