Chapter 426: Representation of an Artifact

Looking at the Nautilus cup in his hand, Chen Wenzhe felt a little emotional. This thing fell into his hands, otherwise it would be regarded as a fiction and pushed out of the door again?

Few people know that there is such a wonderful flower in the wine bottle!

In modern archaeological excavations, wine bottles and utensils are often unearthed, and they are almost identical in appearance and can be recognized at a glance.

However, a few years ago, an unusual wine bottle was unearthed from a thousand-year-old tomb, leaving experts scratching their heads.

In 1975, at a construction site in Xiangshan, Nandu City, a construction team accidentally discovered a thousand-year-old tomb.

Soon, the archaeological team conducted rescue excavations.

In the end, hundreds of precious cultural relics were unearthed, including various types of gold, silver, jade and bronze wares, proving the noble identity of the tomb owner.

Among the many cultural relics, the one that attracted the most attention from experts was undoubtedly a bronze vessel with a strange appearance and turned out to be a large conch.

The shape of this conch was obviously carved by craftsmen.

As for its purpose, experts were confused and had no choice but to take it back to the research institute.

After reviewing historical materials, experts finally confirmed the purpose of conch.

It turns out that it was mentioned in Li Bai's poem that it was the "parrot cup".

It is said that the volume of the parrot cup is so huge that the wine hidden inside can never be finished.

Later, marine biology experts told that this piece of conch is called Nautilus, which lives in the Indian Ocean and is a shell creature.

After cleaning the flesh inside the shell, the capacity inside is enough to hold 4 kilograms of fine wine.

Due to the uniqueness of the parrot cup, this creature eventually caused great disasters and became the target of hunting by the ancients.

At that time, nautilus could be said to be spread all over the world, but now it is almost extinct and it is difficult to find it again.

The reason why the parrot cup is said to be "endless" is because of its unique structure.

There are more than 30 cavities in the nautilus, which are separated from each other. There are only small holes of about 2 cm between each cavity.

Therefore, when the parrot cup is filled with fine wine, the fine wine will slowly seep out when the ancients drink. Each time they drink, they can only take a small sip, giving people the illusion that they will never finish drinking.

Therefore, due to the winding cavity and deep cave, the Nautilus Cup is also called the "Nine-curved Snail Cup".

However, this thing is made of conch shells after all, and it is not easy to preserve. If it was accidentally broken, I don’t know how this pair was preserved.

Zhao Fei and Ye Chengfeng could naturally see Chen Wenzhe's series of actions clearly.

When they saw through the computer that the internal information showed that a pair had been unearthed in Nandu, the two of them started to murmur.

"How come there are exactly the same things?" Zhao Fei was more outspoken and asked directly.

In an antique shop, if there are identical items, most of them are probably imitations.

"What? There's something wrong with something?"

She didn't take it seriously at first, but after seeing Chen Wenzhe take it seriously, the woman was secretly happy. Who wouldn't want to sell it for more money?

But now the performance of Zhao Fei and the two is obviously wrong.

Chen Wenzhe glanced at the woman and reassured her directly: "Don't worry, the stuff is right and valuable."

Chen Wenzhe was very happy. He was considered a good person and was rewarded!

Unexpectedly, I didn't deduct money from him in the morning, and delivered him these three treasures in the afternoon.

Think about a woman's performance. If Chen Wenzhe's performance on the previous Nautilus was not so good, would she still take out this pair of Nautilus Cups?

Therefore, don’t underestimate women, especially a woman with children who are sick. She is not stupid!

"Don't worry, this thing is a representative of a kind of utensil, called a buckle. Have you heard of it?"

Zhao Fei shook her head decisively, but Ye Chengfeng understood a little bit.

"I've heard that you said there are buckles in wooden utensils, right?"

"This kind of thing was a popular utensil thousands of years ago. For example, Wang Xingzhi came from a wealthy family in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It was quite normal to have buckles that were popular at that time."

The pair of Nautilus cups unearthed in Nandu were unearthed from the tomb of Wang Xingzhi and his wife in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

Wang Xingzhi is a descendant of Wang Dao, the prime minister of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and his uncle and brother to the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi.

The Wang family was the head of the wealthy family in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and its power extended to future generations.

The Nautilus cups should have been enjoyed by the tomb owner Wang Xingzhi during his lifetime. Judging from the category of production technology, these Nautilus cups should be classified as buckles.

The buckle was a well-known thing more than a thousand years ago, but it is almost extinct in today's life, and most people don't know what a buckle is.

Xu Shen, a native of the Eastern Han Dynasty, said in "Shuowen Jiezi: Jinbu": "Buckle, the mouth of a gold ornament."

Gold in ancient times generally refers to metals, such as gold, silver, copper, etc., which are all collectively called gold.

Therefore, in Xu Shen's explanation, anything that uses metal to reinforce and decorate the rim of an utensil is called a buckle.

The buckle was first produced in lacquerware, which used metal to reinforce the mouth of the lacquerware. It first appeared in the Warring States Period, and began to be mass-produced in the Han Dynasty, and became widely popular in society.

According to the grade from high to low, clasps are mainly divided into three categories: gold clasps, silver clasps and copper clasps.

Among them, copper buckles can be divided into gilt copper buckles and non-gilt copper buckles.

Most of the buckle ware is lacquerware, but there are also a small number of jade, ivory, tortoiseshell and colored glaze ware.

Archeology has discovered that some copper-buckle lacquerware in the Han Dynasty had copper-buckle reinforcements, not just at the rim, but also with several copper hoops added to the edges, corners, or body of the vessel to make it stronger and more beautiful.

For example, the ears of ear cups are the most touched parts during use. For reinforcement, copper buckles are often used.

These nautilus cups are made of the shells of precious marine creatures as the cup body, and have copper-inlaid buckle rims, ears and edges. They are extremely rare among the actual buckles excavated in archaeology.

Judging from the existing appearance of this thing, it should be a gilt copper buckle, because the gilt layer of the copper buckle is extremely thin. After thousands of years, the gilt will always fall off, so the appearance is mottled.

The two cups are yellow in color, translucent, wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. The smooth curves of the cup body transition naturally and are decorated with petal patterns.

It can be said that the shape is exquisite, and even if it is passed down to this day, it still looks antique.

Otherwise, Chen Wenzhe would not be able to tell at a glance that it was an antique.

Most importantly, parrot cups are not uncommon in ancient poetry.

It can be said that the parrot cup is often mentioned in Tang and Song poetry, and there are many famous lines besides Li Bai.

For example, King Luo Bin of the Tang Dynasty wrote in "The Prodigal Son Joins the Army": "Let's stop playing the flute on the Phoenix Tower, and stop drinking in the parrot's cup."

Lu Zhaolin's poem "The Ancient Meaning of Chang'an": "In the Han Dynasty, King Wu came with thousands of horses, and he brought an emerald Tusu Parrot Cup."

Lu Fangweng's poem: "The grape brocade covers the ancient tung sun, and the nautilus pours out the fragrance of jade."

It seems that the parrot cup was quite popular among alcoholics during the Tang and Song Dynasties.

Of course, Chen Wenzhe also liked it very much, especially the pair in his hands, which were made with great care.

Something like this is definitely easy to sell!
