248 City Gate into the Night

After noon, the weather became gloomy, and towards evening there was a very strong wind.

The wind blew through the streets and alleys, shaking the few stalls along the streets, sending cloth, paper and pens flying all over the sky. Many tents set up on the streets also fell down, and some businesses had to close early.

Throughout the day, the number of patrol guards on the street continued to increase, and the notice board was covered with portraits of girls. However, some people discovered that these patrol guards seemed to be not only checking the girl, but also many gentlemen-looking scholars and people in teahouses and restaurants.

The storytellers were all taken away.

There were few people on the street, but people and horses were walking around at the city gate.

Several of the big families left the city, accompanied by three to four hundred people. Boxes full of money and goods were piled on the carriages, and they were protected by men riding tall horses.

The city gate officer had been checked in advance, but the inspection was still strict. Every box was rummaged through, opened and packed, and gold, silver, jewelry and silks and satins dazzled the eyes of passers-by.

There are also many people rushing to the city, and there are also carriages one after another.

Several female family members were sitting in the car, looking at the carriage passing by them, shaking their heads: "How stupid, entering the city now."

At the same time, some people on the carriage entering the city looked at the convoy leaving the city and laughed at their companions: "Go out now, do they think there is a safe place outside?"

As night approaches, the city gates are closed, and people leaving and entering the city are blocked. Many people simply stay where they are, waiting to open the city tomorrow.

There were few stars in the sky, and the evening wind was swift. It was better outside the city. They gathered together to light a fire. People in the city were being driven away, and many people were hiding in corners, not daring to make any sound.

Patrol guards came one after another, some specifically to see girls, and some to see adult men.

When Kuai Zi arrived, another group of people came over and headed straight for the girls.

Many girls were already asleep and were forcibly picked up by their shoulders.

"No, no," a woman begged while holding her child, "Master, my baby is really not that evil boy!"

The man didn't care, he grabbed the girl's chin and lifted it up.

The flesh was pulled so hard that the girl opened her mouth and cried loudly.

"Take it away!" the man waved his hand and said.

The man beside him snatched the girl away.

The woman was dumbfounded and hurriedly hugged his leg: "Guardian, what are you doing? This is my baby!"

"Get away!" The guard holding the girl kicked her away.

"Take it away!" A guard not far away was pointing at a girl, then stretched out his hand to grab another child, looked at it, and saw that it was still fair, and pushed it to the person behind him, "Take this one away too!"

"Sir, this is not possible! My sister did nothing wrong!" A girl screamed and rushed over, but was pushed away.

Many people stood up and looked around, watching the girls being taken away. There was chaos all around, and there was a lot of crying.

People outside the city and under the city wall could vaguely hear some movement.

A girl opened the curtain and looked outside. She turned back and said to the woman next to her: "Miss, I don't know what happened inside."

The woman's face was covered with gauze, her exposed eyes were calm and steady, and she was reading by the candlelight in the carriage.

"It has nothing to do with us," the woman said.

The little girl nodded and stuck her head out to listen again.

"Miss, it seems like you are trying to steal a female doll." the little girl said.

The woman paused slightly, raised her eyes and looked outside.

The night was pitch black and there was no light at all outside.

"This is the emperor's feet," the woman said, "Why is it so messy here?"

"Well, we will enter the city tomorrow," the little girl looked back at her, "Miss, we still have time to leave now..."

"We're all here, we're not leaving." The woman looked away and looked at the book in her hand.

The little girl nodded her head and looked at the woman's veil involuntarily.

The veil is very thick, and the candlelight has shadows, so the face under the veil cannot be seen clearly. Just looking at it like this, the woman's exposed eyes are so beautiful. The eyelashes are long and the eyes are curved, reflecting the candlelight.

It looks like it contains water.

"Miss, would you like to eat something? There are some dry biscuits," the little girl said.

"I won't eat anymore," the woman replied.

"OK, all right."

"Are you sleepy?" The woman looked over, "If you are, you can lean over there and sleep for a while."

"Well, I'll go to bed when I feel sleepy later," the little girl said with a smile.

She was about to lower the car curtain, but before she lowered it, she couldn't help but look outside again.

The crying continued and kept ringing.

The little girl sighed: "It's really a mess."

The car curtain fell, barely blocking the cries.

However, this night was really not peaceful, maybe it was like this at the gate of Jingzhao City. Not long after the little girl fell asleep, she was awakened by the sound of horse hooves galloping outside. In less than an hour, several groups of people came in and out.

"This is just a city gate," the little girl said sleepily, rubbing her eyes, "there are so many people here."

"Now that wars are raging, there is more news." The woman said calmly.

"Miss, aren't you sleeping yet?" The little girl looked towards her.

"I'll go to the city tomorrow and sleep in the best restaurant," the woman said. "I won't sleep now because I don't want to wrong myself."

The little girl giggled and said, "Then can we have the best meal tomorrow?"

"It depends on whether the shopkeeper is willing to give it to you," the woman replied.

The little girl thought about it and said, "Yes, it would be nice to have something to eat."

She looked at the car curtains that were slightly blown by the wind, sighed softly, and turned over inside the car.

Another group of people came down the official road, and the guards at the city gate ran downstairs.

As soon as the leading officers and soldiers entered the city, a woman ran over crying.

"My lord, make the decision for us, lord! My baby girl has been snatched away! She is only thirteen years old!"

"Get away!" Two city gate guards stepped forward and pushed her away with their spears.

"My lord, my lord!"

"And my daughter was also taken away! We are all ordinary people and we will not commit any crime!"

"Sir, make the decision for us!"

Others also rushed over, crying loudly.

"What a noise!" The leading man pointed his riding crop at the woman who ran first, "Pull this person out and beat her to death!"

The woman was stunned for a moment, but before she could panic, several guards grabbed her arms.

Knowing that this was not a joke, the woman hurriedly begged for mercy: "Sir, I know I was wrong, please spare my life, sir!"

The tall guards held her up and dragged her outside. The woman was startled, jumping up and down, and twisting all over.

"Master Guan, I was wrong, I didn't dare anymore, I must be honest! Spare my life!" the woman shouted miserably.

The others had long since stopped talking and watched timidly as the woman was carried away.

The leading man looked at those people coldly.

Just now they were all cheering up and crying, but now they don't dare to say a word.

A despicable person has a despicable temperament.

The man raised his whip and rode away.
