Chapter 6 The Observed

Watch City.

An ancient city that does not exist in the cognition of ordinary people, it was the former headquarters of the Watch Society.

This ancient city with a history of thousands of years is not hidden deep in an inaccessible jungle, nor is it established in some unexplored restricted area under the sea.

It has another name.

Castle in the Sky.

The Watch City floating in the sky is the oldest and most mysterious floating city in existence in mankind.

It is mysterious because of its appearance. No one knows how such a miraculous city came to be in that era.

However, being old does not mean being powerful. Over the course of thousands of years of technological change, Watch City has long lost its former strategic value.

Now it has more of a symbolic meaning, and is regarded as a major proof of human counterattack.

Time will always pass, but the glory will last forever.

At this moment, on the top floor of the Watch City, there were two figures standing by the window of the central tower.

One of them was tall and hid his whole body under a dark cloak. He lowered his head respectfully and reported in a low voice to the other person:

"...Your Excellency Stargazer, the [Observed] project is continuing and everything is going well."

His voice is old, but it sounds full of energy and does not appear tired at all.

"All those being observed have passed the seventh observation and have entered a short rest period. There will be no corresponding push in the short term."

"After such a long period of monitoring, the scope has been narrowed again. The number of people being observed has been reduced from nineteen to fifteen, and the corresponding information has been handed over to the countermeasures room for analysis."

The other person stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window and never spoke. Only now did he suddenly come to his senses, nodded, and asked softly:

"Is there anyone worth noting this time?"

There was no pretense behind his hands, but the movements of this figure directly affected the atmosphere in the room.

"Yes, No. 3, No. 6, No. 17, and No. 99 are still performing stably. No. 2 and No. 9 performed most prominently in this period of observation."

"The bus No. 2 was traveling on lost control and fell when it was passing by a cliff. Of the 92 people on the bus, including the staff, only No. 2 survived."

"Number 9 entered the special observation ranks for the first time. He successfully prevented a blood sacrifice while being isolated and helpless."

The stargazer raised his eyebrows hidden under his hood, somewhat surprised:

"Huh? Special situation?"

Compared with No. 2, who survived the bus crash alone, No. 9's deeds sound a little... plain?

The tall old man was not surprised by this and explained:

"Yes, Your Excellency, the situation of No. 9 is a little special. He is not a member of other organizations, but a reserve operator of the command line."

"His observation this time was not arranged by us, but an unexpected incident. There happened to be a group of cultists holding a blood sacrifice at the place where the regularization assessment was conducted."

"There is no way to contact the outside world, the strength and number of the cultists are unknown, and the blood sacrifice can start at any time."

"Faced with such a difficult situation, he did not choose to evacuate after discovering the clues of the blood sacrifice. Instead, he continued the investigation after leaving instructions and a suicide note."

"He succeeded."

"No. 9 is not an awakened person, but he killed all the cultists hiding in the dark, including a first-level succubus."

Even the old man couldn't help but admire No. 9 when he heard the report for the first time, not for No. 9's achievements, but for the choices he made at that time.

Easier said than done. There are still too few people who can truly practice the concept of sacrifice.

But the stargazer didn't pay too much attention to his explanation. He nodded thoughtfully and looked at the sea of clouds again, as if there was some secret hidden in it.

"...In addition, we found that the altar left by the cultists seems to have been modified, pointing to a brand new honorary name, and it is impossible to figure out which incarnation it is."

After a pause, the old man looked at the figure in front of him, looking down at the sea of clouds, but hesitated to speak.

The stargazer, whose figure was hidden in his long robe, did not look back. His light-colored eyes kept staring at the ever-changing sea of clouds, and he spoke softly:

"If you have any questions, just ask."

"Your Excellency, this is not the first time this situation has occurred. Do we really not need to increase monitoring efforts? In recent years, the number of people who have been bewitched has gradually increased. Once..."

But before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a chuckle from the stargazer:

"It's impossible. If the gods could be awakened so easily, they would have woken up long ago. Why would they wait until now?"

"Don't forget their pets. Even if some of them abandon their original ideals, the rest never give up on awakening their masters."

"Thousands of years of waiting and disappointment have not broken their faith. Haha, they are indeed the most loyal dogs."

The mocking words came from the stargazer's mouth, and his tone finally took on a human tone.

"What if it succeeds?"

"You said just in case, and even if the ritual is successful, the person who makes contact will not be a god, maybe some boring high-ranking being, who knows... ahem."

As if he had said too much, the stargazer suddenly coughed at the end of his sentence, and the violent coughing sound was particularly harsh in the room where the drop of a needle could be heard.

But even if there was blood slipping from the corner of his mouth, those eyes did not waver at all, and he did not wipe it away, but let it drip onto his clothes.

The old man behind him raised his head and glanced, but did not say any words of admonishment. Instead, he said:

"One more thing. In addition to bidding farewell to his family, No. 9 also left a message for the Watch Club in his suicide note."

"He said……"

He raised his head, revealing his gray beard, his eyes fixed on the back of the stargazer, and his tone was low:

"The dead pay tribute to you."

After saying that, the old man bowed his head and saluted the seemingly eternal figure, and disappeared into the room silently.

The room fell into silence, and only the faint and inaudible breathing of the stargazer proved that there was still someone here.

For a long time, a wave of fluctuation flashed in the stargazer's eyes, his gaze seemed to penetrate the clouds under his feet, and he whispered:

"Go to the dead..."

"Before we find him, we are all going to die."

"…………"

"The [Prophet] who can save everything, where are you?"

who I am?

where am I?

What to eat tonight?

Looking blankly at the pure white ceiling, Ning Feng thought for a long time before coming back to his senses and slowly sat up from the bed.

Feeling as if he was having a nightmare, Ning Feng finally felt relieved after touching himself up and down.

It's in perfect condition, not a piece is missing anywhere, and some places are a little longer due to sleeping.

[*: Height will increase due to the recovery of the intervertebral disc during sleep. (laughing)]

"It turned out to be a nightmare."

It's a lady and a succubus, but in the end there are no hot R-rated scenes...

What else could this be but a nightmare!?

"What a weird dream. In the end, it seemed like... I was myself in the fire."

The last memory in the dream was a bit blurry. Ning Feng only remembered that he seemed to have seen some liquid black cat, and he woke up before he could see it clearly.

But this is not a problem, after all, the content of dreams is always absurd and illogical.

"But where is this ward?"

Walking from the bed to the door, Ning Feng wanted to take a look at the outside, so he pulled the door handle...

Kaka.

The smile on his face froze, and Ning Feng suddenly turned his head and looked behind him, fearing that he would see some black cat appearing there again.

"ha……"

its not right!

Since I don’t want to see it, why should I look back!?

Before Ning Feng could figure out the logic, there was a sudden sound in the room.
