Chapter Four Enlightenment from the Scriptures

Standing in the Sutra Pavilion, Wang Li was not in a hurry.

He slowly turned his head, closed his eyes slightly, and listened.

The sound of chanting sutras in my mind is not of general size. When it is tilted to a certain place, the sound of chanting a certain sutra will become clearer accordingly.

This was the first time he entered the Sutra Pavilion and the first time he "heard" the sound of sutra chanting.

[Empty Silence] is a state that Wang Li accidentally captured while listening to Jingyuan chanting sutras in the Bamboo Forest Monastery.

At that time, when Jingyuan saw Wang Li, he took medicinal baths without pain, took decoctions without pain, practiced swordsmanship without fatigue, and had tolerance, patience, and determination.

I tried many words to persuade him but failed, so I tried my best to get Wang Li to become a monk willingly.

On that day of pure destiny, Buddha's light overflowed all over his body, Sanskrit scriptures circulated endlessly, and the wooden fish that had been with him for many years was almost broken.

Wang Li was very moved by this and showed great cooperation in a [concentrated] state.

For the remaining ninety minutes, after Jingyuan exhausted all his strength and almost fainted, he silently added a [meditation] to himself.

It was in this state, coupled with the full output of Jingyuan, that Wang Li achieved this "state of mind" that is extremely important in Buddhist practice.

It appears faster than the fleeting meteors in the sky, and disappears faster than the sparks rising in the flames, just like an insignificant thought passing through the vicissitudes of life.

[Empty Silence]: The absence of any appearance is called emptiness; the absence of any arising or ceasing is called silence.

Not attached to the world, like a lotus flower, always good at walking in emptiness and silence.

There is no sign of self, no sign of no one, no sign of sentient beings, no sign of life-span. That is to say, there is no sign of all things.

Wang Li walked in the Sutra Pavilion in "empty silence", and when he looked at each of the Buddhist sutras, each one showed its uniqueness.

Some of the chanting sounds are as vast as the sea, as if all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats appear together in the Lingshan Mountain. Some are like a compassionate old monk sitting in meditation, and some are like the mighty Vajra with angry eyes succumbing to demons.

There are also some scriptures that require concentration to be heard clearly, and the sound may sound like a gnat, or it may sound intermittently.

And more scriptures have no response in the state of emptiness.

After just a moment, Wang Li felt dizzy, which was a sign of great mental exhaustion.

He suddenly raised his head and ran upstairs quickly.

From the third to fourth floors, an invisible wall of air blocked him.

He whispered secretly, and without thinking twice, he turned back and quickly searched the third floor.

After a while, Wang Li's eyes locked on a sutra book and he quickly stopped [Kong Jie].

Suddenly, he felt a warmth on his lips, a surge of warmth. He raised his hand and wiped it gently, and blood entered his eyes.

He hurriedly raised his head, first took out an elixir to warm and nourish the energy and swallowed it in one gulp. Then he turned his hand to his pocket and took out the silk cloth. After working for a long time, he stopped the nosebleed.

Outside the Sutra Pavilion.

Elder Qingchi first stared blankly at the first floor of the attic as if he had seen a ghost, with golden light surging in his eyes. He followed Wang Li's figure in the building and turned to the second floor.

When he saw Wang Li bleeding from his nose, he immediately frowned and moved his feet as if to help.

However, in the end, reason prevailed over the impulse, and he stopped moving forward, keeping one hand slightly raised.

Immediately calming his mind, the old monk Qingchi stood up again, clasped his hands together, and recited Amitabha Buddha.

When he cast his gaze into the attic again, he saw Wang Li already holding a book of scriptures and concentrating on reading it.

The old monk in Qingchi could not take his eyes away.

After a while, he suddenly smiled to himself.

He turned back to his hay ball and bowed his head in silence.

"All appearances are false. If you see all appearances that are not true, you will see the Tathagata."

Wang Li was holding the "Lotus Sutra of Wonderful Dharma" which was simple and even somewhat shabby in appearance.

The Lotus Sutra, also known as the Lotus Sutra, consists of seven volumes.

What Wang Li holds in his hand is the fifth volume.

The remaining six volumes are placed next to the fifth volume, but those six volumes do not convey the vast and vast Buddha's message like the fifth volume.

After the [empty silence] state was cancelled, Wang Li was not invaded by the annoying noise as he had just come in, and at the same time, he could no longer hear the Sanskrit sounds coming from the scriptures.

With the double blessing of [Concentration] and [Meditation], this Buddhist classic was quickly memorized completely.

After closing the scripture, Wang Li closed his eyes slightly.

Master Jingyuan once said that all the methods of Buddhist practice are included in the classics.

There are extremely qualified Buddhist disciples who can realize the true method of practice from Buddhist scriptures on their own as a mortal.

When he first heard about it, Wang Li thought he was just bragging and deliberately promoting Buddhism in order to induce him to become a monk.

At this time, he actually believed it somewhat.

However, based on what he has just seen and heard, Wang Li believes that what Master Jingyuan said should also have a hidden meaning. Not all classics can be used to understand the method of practice.

At least, it must be those scriptures in which one can hear the sound of Buddha singing in "empty silence", so that one can understand the true method.

Although there are not many such classics in the Sutra Pavilion, their actual quality varies greatly.

If you rely on those intermittent and noisy scriptures, you may spend your entire life unable to understand anything.

The higher the floor, the more Buddhist scriptures are heard, and the sound becomes clearer and brighter.

Especially at a quick glance, Wang Li seemed to have really "heard" the Great Leiyin Temple in Xitian Lingshan on the highest floor of the Sutra Pavilion.

Bailong Temple really has treasures.

It is a pity that if he does not become a monk, I am afraid that no monk in Bailong Temple will allow him to go up.

However, how can one understand the method of practice with the help of a Buddhist scripture?

Wang Li fell into deep thought, and the scriptures continued to circulate in his mind. His mind merged with the Buddhist scriptures in his hands, and he fell into a fugue for a moment.

After a long time, Wang Li came back to his senses, his brows furrowed slightly, and a look of sadness appeared on his tender face.

I have the understanding of Buddhism, but where is the promised practice method?

Outside the Sutra Pavilion, the old monk Qingchi laughed happily again.

He pinched the Buddha's seal with his hand and meditated on the entire sutra collection attic.

Wang Li's performance just now has completely won his love. There are many classics in the Sutra Pavilion, which are full of the painstaking efforts of monks of all generations. There are naturally many ideas gathered in the Sutra Pavilion, intertwined and mixed. Many monks will enter the Sutra Pavilion for the first time.

Sometimes he fainted due to the impact. Even if he has good cultivation, he will inevitably suffer a hidden loss if he is not prepared.

This itself is also a defensive method of the Tibetan Scripture Pavilion.

However, just now, Wang Li only stumbled and quickly adjusted himself, and then looked calm and calm.

It can be seen that the strength of his soul, mind and state of mind are extraordinary, even far superior to some of the monks in the temple.

He was naturally clear about Wang Li's purpose, and it was precisely because of this that he smiled even more happily.

How can it be so easy to understand the method of practice from the scriptures?

The last person to do this in Bailong Temple appeared thousands of years ago, and later became the abbot, and the legacy left by that generation of monks still benefits Bailong Temple to this day.

Of course, even if Wang Li couldn't do it, it wouldn't affect the old monk Qingchi's opinion of him.

"Well, when he returns empty-handed later, the poor monk will take action at the right time and he will be able to introduce him to Buddhism." Thinking of this, the old monk Qingchi smiled even deeper and stroked his gray beard happily.

Amitabha, nephew of Jing Yuan, you will soon have a junior brother.

Wang Li thought for a long time in the attic.

Then he held the elixir in his mouth, a silk cloth in one hand, and a Buddhist scripture in the other.

【empty silence】!

As soon as a thought arises, the sound of Buddha enters the soul instantly.

The sound of many sutras in the entire Sutra Pavilion was clearly layered. Wang Li concentrated on the "Miaofa Lotus Sutra" in his hand. For a while, all other Buddhist sounds disappeared, and only the sound of "Miaofa Lotus Sutra" was still in his ears.

At this moment, Wang Li suddenly felt that his place was changing rapidly. From this ancient scripture collection attic, he traveled through thousands of time and space, and suddenly arrived at a sacred temple on the top of a mountain.

This mountain is shrouded in Buddha light, clouds are steaming, a golden palace stands tall, and a group of eminent monks sit under the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, with hands clasped together, eyes slightly closed, and chanting sutras compassionately.

Wang Li was sitting in front of him.

From the mouth of the eminent monk, the golden scriptures flowed gurglingly, and after flying through the space, they wrapped around Wang Li's body and kept spinning.

But in the state of emptiness and silence, all Wang Li's thoughts were completely immersed in this, without any distraction.

A few moments.

The fifth volume of "Miaoho Lotus Sutra" was finished recited by the eminent monk, and the floating and rotating golden scriptures had completely enveloped Wang Li.

Immediately afterwards, these golden scriptures suddenly shrank inward and poured into Wang Li's body in an instant.

He suddenly gained the power of inner vision, and watched as these scriptures were injected, dissolved, and merged. Wherever they went, the meridians were quickly and orderly lit up.

At the same time, inside the Sutra Pavilion.

With the integration of golden scriptures, Wang Li's slightly thin body shrouded in gray monk's robes suddenly slowly floated out a petal.

This petal is very full, with the inside transitioning from milky white to pink, and the outer layer is coated with a light golden glow.

If there is one, then there are two.

Immediately afterwards, more and more lotus petals poured out one after another. Listening to them flying freely in the air without wind, the golden light gradually became denser, making the gray monk's robes and white cheeks seem to be coated with a layer of golden light.

Gold powder.

Outside the Sutra Pavilion.

The old monk Qingchi suddenly stood up again, turned around, and the golden light in his eyes suddenly shined, and it was three feet away from the body.

His gaze penetrated the attic and was firmly fixed on Wang Li. His lips couldn't stop trembling, and his voice couldn't suppress a slight tremor: "The poor monk...may have really seen the Tathagata!"
