13. Crazy blue

"Crazy blues?"

Fisher chewed on this word, which was extremely awkward to pronounce in Nali language, and spoke with some confusion.

"Yes." Kerken bit into a piece of steak first, then quickly swallowed it before continuing, "Have you ever seen a person go crazy and become like a simple beast?"

"You mean, like some kind of mental illness."

Keken shook his head, as if some terrible picture appeared in front of his eyes, making him quite frightened.

"What if you also have blue liquid oozing out of your eyes, nostrils, and ears? He's going crazy, and he's trying to bite your muscles with his mouth full of blue liquid...

Just like how delicious we are..."

Countless diseases recorded in medical classics flashed through Fisher's mind, but in the end none of them could correspond to them. In his long study career, such a disease had never appeared in the Western Continent.

It doesn't sound like pure mental illness. How to explain the blue liquid? Is it poisoning, or is it infected by something else?

He quickly became interested, wiped his mouth and said to Kerken,

"It's very interesting... Tell me in detail what happened, how many samples were there, and what is their current situation?"

"Well, let me think about it..."

If Kerken had known that he had to talk about business, he would never have drank so much. Alcohol was like an adhesive that slowed down his thinking, and recalling the details of the matter was as uncomfortable as twisting a rusty clockwork.

But then again, it was drinking that reminded him of this incident, otherwise he would never have been able to add such trouble to this relaxed and happy reminiscing.

Fortunately, Fisher was very patient. While he was thinking, he just had time to observe the absent-minded Rafael.

It turned out that the two ladies from Kerken were looking at her with interest, causing her to adjust her sitting posture unnaturally. Unfortunately, the way she was eating was too exaggerated, and it was obviously too late to pretend now.

It took several seconds before Kerken picked up the topic.

"It's like this. About a month or two ago, we received the first such patient here. The doctor in the city reported it to me... She suspected that this was some kind of new infectious disease, so she came to ask me about it.

Opinion."

"So, has anyone been infected since the report?"

After hearing Fisher's question, Kerken shook his head.

"No, after I learned about this, I temporarily isolated the first patient in a cell, along with the doctors and nurses who had been in contact with him. But a month later, they did not show any signs of infection, so I had to

Those doctors and nurses were released. However, new cases kept coming from outside the city. So far, there have been more than a dozen cases, and I have locked them all in cells in the city."

Fisher pinched his fingers and kept thinking about diseases that might produce such symptoms, but there were too few diseases that could meet both conditions at the same time, especially the one where blue liquid leaked from the seven orifices.

"Interesting... take me to the cell to have a look. Maybe we can make some new discoveries."

"Are you interested? This is great. How about setting off now? Dora, go and arrange the car, and we will go over and take a look now."

Kerken was quite excited to receive Fisher's approval. When Dora left to arrange the carriage, Fisher probably mentioned to Rafael for a while that he would go to the cell to see the strange disease.

Fisher thought that this disease only appeared in the Southern Continent. Could it be caused by something unique to the Southern Continent? So he asked Rafael by the way.

When she was told that she was leaving, she was of course willing to do so. The two female humans saw that her scales were about to stand up, and her butt would be as stiff as a piece of iron if she didn't leave.

After hearing the illness described by Fisher, she curled her lips and replied,

"Dragon people rarely get sick. How would I know about your human diseases?"

Fisher ignored her somewhat angry tone, because he didn't expect to get any reliable answers from Rafael.

Waiting at the gate for Kerken who was going to the bathroom, Fisher happened to use his cane to check if anyone was approaching his carriage.

He was relieved when he saw that the purple stripe in the middle of the cane was not lit up or damaged, which meant that no one from the inside or outside had touched the carriage's protective emblem.

If the carriage is his most precious thing, then this cane is his second most important thing. There are many ready-made magic emblems engraved on it, of various types and effects.

The magicians in this world are not as instant as those in novels and myths and legends. They only need to shout a few spells to trigger such magical effects. After all, the essence of magic is to induce the [reverberation] of the world through magic circuits, and

The more powerful [Echo], the more complex the magic circuit required.

This level of magic circuit cannot be completed in an instant. Most real magicians have their magic engraved somewhere for use. If they encounter danger or other situations, they are like using disposable props.

Release the magic circuit.

"Magic is not a lucky miracle, but a rigorous architecture."

This was the opening statement of the professor of Fisher's first "Basic Theory of Magic" course at the university. Although the Royal Academy of Sainte-Naly revealed his unbearable decadence, we have to admit that there are many scholars full of wisdom in it.

He benefited a lot from there.

The cane in Fisher's hand is engraved with all the magic circuits in his hand. If it is lost, it will be a huge loss.

It was probably 90% as painful as losing the carriage.

Fisher was making this strange comparison in his mind.

"You've been waiting for a long time, let's go now."

"It doesn't matter."

Kerken took a towel and wiped his hands, then put on his suit jacket, and walked outside with Fisher. Rafael followed Fisher, looking warily at the man who smiled and waved to her.

of two ladies.

Really strange humans.

She shook her tail and thought so.

"Speaking of which, the Western Continent is not peaceful... I heard that the friction between Shivali and Nali has become more and more serious recently. Even in the Southern Continent, you can smell the smell of gunpowder. The people of Shivali next door

Recently, there have been fewer and fewer interactions with us, and a lot of weapons have been shipped here..."

On the carriage, Keken chattered about things in the Western Continent.

Fisher and Rafael looked out the window together, where they passed by the place where demi-human slaves were sold on the street again, but this time the slave trader was not shouting, but was sitting on a chair next to him to take a rest.

"They do this every year."

"No, Mr. Fisher, I am serious this time... The new queen of Shivali is a shrewd and capable woman. The development of the Southern Continent is an opportunity. She has long not wanted to settle in the Western Continent, Nali, Kadu

Let’s play house.”

"... Then she has to play the nobles in the country to death. Nali and Kadu will not let her go so smoothly."

While chatting about such gossipy political news, their journey was closer to the prison that Kerken mentioned. The prison was located a street away from the place where demihuman slaves were sold. When they got off the carriage, Rafael was still facing the prison.

He looked in that direction for a long time, his expression indescribably gloomy.

But she didn't speak, and Fisher didn't take the initiative to mention it. He slowly looked away from Rafael, and just urged her to keep up and walk into the prison.

"Mr. Fisher, here, I have put them on the top floor, isolated from other prisoners."

The prison environment here is very poor. There are no lighting objects such as coal lamps inside. There is only an oil lamp lit in the duty area. Moreover, the weather in the southern continent is already humid, causing a thin layer of light to hang on the stone walls here.

Water mist, and a ticking sound came from the dark depths of the cell.

Fisher carried his cane and Kerken and went up. The higher they went, the faint "uh-uh-uh-uh" sounds that could be heard downstairs became clearer.

It was a human voice, but it sounded extremely confused, like an unconscious beast.

Different from the one below, Kerken has arranged more duty rooms here, and torches are inserted all over the outside of the cell, which allows Fisher who is outside the cell in the corridor to see the scene inside more clearly.

"Mr. Fisher, look."

According to this, Fisher looked inside through the firelight outside. In the large cell, he saw more than a dozen figures sitting or lying like zombies, muttering in low voices. Many of them were still wearing their original clothes.

, but after several months of detention, it was already dirty and smelly.

But they didn't feel anything strange at all. The patients were both male and female, and all of them had skinny faces and haggard shapes.

"Do they eat?"

"For food, they will unconsciously take in raw meat and water, but they have no desire. They won't bark if they don't give it. One or two people have starved to death before. They only have feelings for... well, people have feelings when they are close.

If you get it, they will rush towards you like crazy.”

It sounds like a monster created by a science fiction novelist in Saint-Nali, but it really appears before our eyes.

Fisher stood at the door of the cell. The distance was still a little far enough for him to see clearly, but in the darkness he could clearly see the eye-catching blue liquid falling from the faces of those people and dripping on the floor of the cell.

Rafael's pupils shrank, and the unique dragon eyes allowed her to still see the appearance of those humans clearly in the dark. Looking at those miserable-looking humans, she felt inappropriately happy in her heart, just like those people

It tortured her compatriots the same way. But soon she no longer felt that way, and felt that her idea was very stupid.

But obviously, she doesn't have the slightest sympathy for the humans inside.

So she soon lost interest, and only occasionally looked at Fisher, who was looking attentive next to her, wondering whether she would succeed in attacking him all the time.

But in this case, even if he is killed, he will be caught by other humans, right?

Not knowing Rafael's little calculation, Fisher squinted his eyes and looked inside for a while, then suddenly turned to Kerken and said,

"Open the cell. I'll go in and take a look. It's too far away and I can't see clearly."
