Chapter 31 Where Dreams Begin

Lao Xie slowly opened his eyes. The pain all over his body made him feel very tired.

The bedroom window was not closed tightly and the wind made a "squeaking" sound.

"When daybreak comes, use the oil to apply on the windows. I remember that the oil was applied just last week, but it makes a squeaky sound again."

Lao Xie rubbed his swollen head and slowly got up from the bed. The night wind blew in through the window, making him feel a little cold, so Lao Xie stretched out his hand to tighten his clothes.

"I remember I was wearing clothes."

Lao Xie touched his body, which was now only a vest, and kept smiling bitterly.

"It seems like I had a very strange dream."

Lao Xie picked up the old yellow robe that was thrown into the living room and put it on himself.

"At that time, I remember that I was wearing this robe, and then I kept running in the corridor, as if someone was trying to kill me..."

Lao Xie was sitting on a chair in the living room, looking slumped, as if the dream had really happened.

The night sky outside is very dark, and the crescent moon hangs on it, as if someone is watching me there.

Perhaps because of the nightmare, Lao Xie felt that his throat was burning, as if he had just eaten a few kilograms of chili peppers, and it seemed as if he could spit out fire.

Lao Xietou poured himself a glass of water and drank it in one gulp. The cold white water soaked his throat, making Lao Xietou feel much better.

"Why does it feel so familiar..."

Lao Xie glanced around and found nothing wrong. He just felt that everything in front of him was familiar yet strange.

The pendulum of the teacher's wall clock on the wall is still swinging, making a "click-click" sound.

"Eleven o'clock..." Old Xie's eyes fell on the hands of the old-fashioned wall clock, and then he looked at the hands above carefully, "Eleven o'clock... Fifty-eight, why?

It’s eleven fifty-eight.”

Lao Xie was in a daze. He felt that this time seemed special to him, but he couldn't remember what he had experienced.

"It seems like the time in the dream is also eleven fifty-eight."

Lao Xie vaguely grasped something. At this moment, there was a sudden knock on the door.

"Dong dong dong——"

Lao Xie's head trembled, and the knock on the door seemed to knock on his soul.

"good

Doesn’t it look like a dream…”

"Dong dong dong——"

The knocking on the door continued, and it seemed that as long as Lao Xie didn't answer, he would keep knocking.

"Who is it?" Old Xie Tou's voice began to tremble.

"Hello, I am a resident of 0208 downstairs. My child has a fever. I came here to ask if you have any anti-fever medicine."

A woman's voice came in from outside the door.

Lao Xie swallowed hard, and then said tremblingly: "I don't have antipyretics at home. You can go to other neighbors and ask."

Lao Xie was sweating all over his head. He found that what he was experiencing now seemed to be somewhat similar to what happened in his dream.

The same woman knocked on the door in the middle of the night, asking to borrow antipyretic medicine.

"Is it a dream within a dream?"

Lao Xie gritted his teeth and slapped himself hard.

The crisp sound of the palms and cheeks touching echoed in the empty room.

"It hurts..." Lao Xie said with a grin on his face, covering his already red cheeks.

The woman outside paused for a moment, and then said again: "We are the only two families left in our building now. The other neighbors have moved away long ago. I have no choice but to come here to disturb you at night."

Lao Xie frowned.

"We are the only ones left? How is that possible? I saw the young couple upstairs going to work in the morning."

Lao Xie calmed down his emotions and then asked: "Did you remember it wrong? How could it be possible that there are only two of us left? Why don't you take your child to the hospital? The central hospital is not far from us.

Far."

Old Xie Tou still had no intention of opening the door to the woman outside.

The woman's voice stopped, as if there was nothing she could do about Old Xie Tou's stubbornness.

"What a strange woman. When daybreak, I must go to her house and ask her."

Old Xie sat on the chair and glanced at the old-fashioned wall clock on the wall again. The time on it still stayed at eleven fifty-eight.

"Are you not motivated?"

This old-fashioned wall clock does not require batteries, just like a mechanical watch. When it stops moving, you can use a specific tool to power it up and it will work normally.

Old Xie Tou took the old-fashioned wall clock off the wall and prepared to add strength to it.

At this moment, the door

There was another "dong dong dong" sound outside.

"I told you, I don't have antipyretics here. You can take your child to the hospital and don't delay the treatment any longer."

Lao Xie became a little impatient and shouted towards the door.

"I found antipyretic medicine." The woman's voice sounded very weak, as if she had spent a lot of effort just now to find the medicine.

Lao Xie was a little confused. She and herself were the only two residents in this building. Where did she find the medicine?

"That's good. Go back and take care of your child." Lao Xie didn't understand what the woman meant by coming to him this time, so he could only comfort him.

"Well...I'm here to see my husband."

"Your husband? Then what are you looking for here? It's unreasonable for a grown man to come to an old man's house in the middle of the night."

Lao Xie stopped what he was doing and said to the woman: "Your husband is not here. You can go. Maybe he is already at home."

The woman outside was obviously panicked, and her tone began to become urgent.

"Not here? How is that possible? I clearly saw him running upstairs."

The knock on the door rang again.

"Dong dong dong——"

"Look for him quickly, he is very dangerous."

"I think you are the most dangerous one." Old Xie was not prepared to pay attention to the woman outside. In his eyes, that woman was a lunatic.

Lao Xie ignored the woman, but the woman's knocking on the door became more and more urgent, as if something was really going to happen.

"Quick, I saw him, he's right there at your window, be careful!"

As soon as the woman's voice fell, Lao Xie heard what sounded like someone knocking on the window in his bedroom.

"Is what the woman said true?" Old Xie was undecided, but the sound outside the window was getting louder and louder, as if someone was hitting the window with his head.

Old Xie was a little scared.

Now there was not only the "dong dong dong" sound of a woman knocking on the door, but also the sound of banging coming from the window.

Lao Xie poked his head into the bedroom little by little, just in time to see a man's head hitting the glass of the window outside.

"This is the third floor. It's eight or nine meters high. How tall is this man? His head can reach the window."
