139 I have Admiral Davout

Davout held a saber in one hand and a flintlock gun in the other, slashing and killing the enemy like a god of war.

He used the flintlock as a spear for defense and the saber in his right hand for offense. He had cut down seven or eight enemies in a row.

The enemy's blood dyed half of Davout's vision red, and his bald head also turned half red.

Every time he kills an enemy, he never forgets to roar: "Hold on! Victory will belong to us!"

When the eighth enemy was cut down, some soldiers shouted: "The enemy has retreated!"

Davout turned around and saw that in the fields next to his defense area, the retreating enemy troops were crossing the ridgeline and escaping to the rear.

"The enemy has retreated!" Davout shouted, "We have won!"

The enemy troops who were still fighting in a melee with Davout's troops realized that the other troops were moisturized after Davout's voice, so they also turned around and started to moisten.

In the blink of an eye, all the enemies near the low wall were gone. Davout's troops fired the last round of bullets at them and began to cheer loudly.

Davout also cheered together, and after shouting a few times, he suddenly sighed.

The soldier next to him immediately asked curiously: "Captain, what's wrong with you?"

Davout: "It's a pity that we don't have cavalry, otherwise we would have been able to pursue the enemy! If the enemy flees like this, they will be gathered again at the foot of the mountain."

The soldier asked doubtfully: "Have we not won yet?"

Davout: "Of course not, it's still early! The enemy has only invested half of it, and the next wave of attacks will be even more fierce."

Davout suddenly raised his voice: "Okay! Stop cheering! Count the number of people in each battalion! Officers killed in action will be replaced according to their rank! You guys, repair the sections of low wall that were damaged by the shelling!"

Although the low wall is only as high as a person's thigh, it is also a very important defensive facility.

Davout turned to look at the cannons assigned to him and shouted: "Where are the artillerymen? Are there any surviving artillerymen?"

No one responded.

It seems that in the recent hand-to-hand combat, the artillerymen have been exhausted with the oncoming enemies.

Davout randomly selected a few people: "Follow me, and I will teach you how to use the cannon! There is no need to calculate any complicated shooting angles, just shoot flatly and shoot shotguns!"

**

An Ning mounted his horse and galloped into the white smoke caused by the shooting.

After running not far, he saw a man who had been shot and fell to the ground.

There were quite a few people lying on the ground, and it seemed that the artillery volleys had caused considerable casualties to the enemy.

After walking a few more steps, he saw an enemy soldier with a broken leg, limping with a rifle.

An Ning pulled out his saber and wanted to chop down the guy, but the other guy turned around and looked at An Ning with a lifeless look, preventing him from swinging the long saber in his hand.

This guy has no desire to fight anymore.

An Ning put down the knife and shouted loudly: "Lie down where you are! Surrender to our army!"

The enemy complied without any resistance, lying on the ground and holding his head in his hands.

An Ning ran past the surrendered soldier.

Soon the mill emerged from the smoke.

Half of the mill had been destroyed by cannon, the blades of the windmill had also fallen off, and only half of the roof of the barn next to it was left.

But the flag of Davout's 1st Brigade is still flying here.

When someone saw An Ning, they shouted: "Your Excellency General! Your Excellency the General is here!"

The soldiers immediately turned to look behind and cheered in unison: "Your Excellency, General, may you be in good health!"

An Ning waved her hand, then saw Davout coming forward, and tightened the reins to stop the horse.

Davout came over to hold An Ning's horse and said excitedly: "Your Majesty General! We repelled the first wave of enemies!"

An Ning saw Davout's appearance and knew that he had gone through a bloody battle, and felt that Davout was indeed a fierce general.

It's a pity that another strongman, Rana, went on a night raid last night and hasn't come back yet.

If this fails, even if we win today, An Ning will not be able to sleep peacefully tonight.

But now is not the time to think about such things. An Ning patted Dawu on the shoulder: "You did a good job!"

"It was your good tactics that pushed back the enemies on both sides! How long did it take!"

Davout had a loud voice, and everyone could hear his words clearly.

Immediately, the soldiers of the first brigade began to shout: "Your Excellency, General, you will always be healthy and victorious!"

An Ning waved his hand gently: "The battle is not over yet! Keep preparing for war!"

Davout also turned around and shouted to his men: "You have all heard it, get to your positions! The battle is not over yet!"

They all watched the soldiers here reluctantly return to their respective duties.

An Ning rode up to the highest point of the hillside and took out a telescope to observe the situation below.

The enemy's shelling did not stop, and from time to time artillery shells roared and fell near An Ning.

However, the intense shooting just occurred on the back side of the hillside, so there was not so much smoke directly in front, and we could more clearly see the enemy retreating down the mountain, as well as the enemy's main formation down the mountain.

Especially the enemy's main formation, Lafayette still has 20,000 men who have not joined the battle and are resting at the foot of the mountain.

An Ning saw officers on horseback rushing down the mountain, apparently gathering the retreating troops.

An Ning muttered: "It's a pity that the cavalry is holding back the enemy's cavalry. Otherwise, if we charge down... maybe the battle can end now."

Davout: "Yes, the enemy will definitely invest more troops in the next attack. That will be the real test."

As soon as he finished speaking, a cannonball landed not far away, sending up pieces of earth as high as a person.

Neither An Ning nor Dawu were moved.

At this time, someone on horseback rushed over from behind: "You two! I've brought the artillery up again!"

An Ning turned around and saw that it was Napoleon.

Davout spoke first: "You did a good job, Bonaparte. The last salvo of shotguns almost killed the man."

Napoleon: "Because of the good selection of terrain and this mobile artillery, the use of cavalry artillery will become a winning factor on the battlefield in the future!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the cavalry and artillery troops deployed on the top of the mountain opened fire again on the enemies at the bottom of the mountain.

An Ning: "Are there enough shells?"

"There are enough artillery shells. I have prepared a sufficient number of artillery shells in the second position I chose. Enough to give the enemy a good look again!" Napoleon said with a childlike smile, looking like a child having a good time, "This

In one battle, my artillery alone could kill hundreds or even thousands!"

An Ning suddenly remembered the lame wounded soldier he saw on the way to Davout.

We are obviously revolutionaries, but we want to hurt each other, damn it.

Thinking like this, An Ning couldn't help but resent Lafayette and the gentlemen in Paris.

They must pay the price!

**

Lafayette looked at the retreating troops in disbelief.

"I can't believe it!" he said angrily, "We invested twice as many troops, but we were defeated so easily! It took less than an hour after we started attacking!"

Berthier looked very calm: "The enemy should have taken advantage of the hillside. If we deployed our troops on the reverse slope, our artillery would hardly be able to hit the enemy."

Lafayette: "Let our artillery push the cannon forward!"

Berthier looked embarrassed: "Our cannons are all heavy twelve-pounders, which are difficult to push up. I suggest that we retreat first to a terrain suitable for us to fight, and then seek a decisive battle..."

Lafayette said angrily: "No! The enemy has occupied the high ground. Once we start to retreat and the enemy suddenly rushes down the mountain in the chaos, it will be over.

"Even if we can successfully retreat! We have 40,000 people, but we retreat in front of 15,000 people, our morale will be destroyed! They will burn the camp again tonight, and tomorrow morning we will all be bare commanders!!"

Lafayette thought for a while and issued an order: "Gather the retreating troops immediately and form formations on both sides of the First Division. Let's attack again!"

At this moment, the officer responsible for observing the hilltop suddenly shouted: "The enemy has retreated from the hilltop!"

Lafayette hurriedly looked toward the top of the mountain, and sure enough he saw the military flag that had been flying on the top of the mountain beginning to retreat.
