052 The curtain opens

The gentlemen of Paris were playing bridge and drinking coffee while talking highly of their king.

Louis XVI never seemed to have thought that there would be any bad consequences if he allowed gentlemen to talk about him like this. He never thought of controlling all kinds of speech in Paris society.

Or maybe he thought about it, but was unable to do anything because his finances still depended on borrowing money from bankers in Paris.

And those nobles who lent money to the royal family happened to be the driving forces behind the prosperous publishing industry in Paris.

For example, the Duke of Orleans supported people like Mirabeau and wrote a bunch of little yellow books for the queen. In this situation, it is basically impossible to control speech in Paris.

After arriving in Paris, An Ning brought Napoleon into the Paris social circle, and then he soon discovered that he had forgotten one thing: when he got close to Napoleon five years ago, he had promoted the Republic of Corsica to Paris.

The well-known "example of freedom".

But in fact most of the gentlemen in Paris don't even know where Corsica is.

After discovering this, Napoleon got into a temper tantrum with An Ning. Fortunately, in the end, his status in An Ning's heart overcame this small flaw.

After accepting this, Napoleon began to work tirelessly to popularize science in Paris, saying that Corsica established a republic earlier than Britain's Thirteen Continents Colonies.

But Napoleon's efforts came to a halt soon after.

Because bad news came from Corsica, Napoleon's father Carlo Bonaparte passed away.

The main source of income for Napoleon's family was his father Carlo's salary for managing the royal nursery in Corsica. Napoleon's brother Joseph Bonaparte was not a housekeeper. Although the priest's salary was very generous, he could not give much to subsidize it.

Household use.

Once Carlo died, the financial burden of the family fell on Joseph, but Napoleon suspected that his brother could not afford it.

An Ning still had a small amount of money at this time. He still had the money he received from the mission system and had no use for it, so he proposed to lend it to Napoleon so that he could complete his studies first.

But Napoleon refused.

He decided to stop all social activities from that day on, concentrate on his studies, and strive to graduate from the Paris Military Academy early and go to the army to receive military pay.

From then on, Napoleon disappeared from Paris's social scene.

Then An Ning was ridiculed, "Your little follower suddenly abandoned you."

It doesn't matter to An Ning. Napoleon began to immerse himself in studying and strive to graduate early. This is consistent with history. There is nothing wrong with letting history follow its original direction. If history goes astray, An Ning will have to worry about not being able to sit on the fence.

The main thing An Ning does in Paris is socializing, and his plan has never changed: meet as many big guys as possible and ride the fucking wall!

So An Ning tried his best to "collect stamps" everywhere. He had already collected stamps from all the big guys of the Girondin faction. All that was left was to expand his foundation in the Peyang faction.

Unfortunately, most of the Pei Yang faction is aristocrats, and they are relatively traditional aristocrats. These people don't look down on a cobbler, so the progress of stamp collecting has been greatly delayed.

As a soldier, Lafayette would occasionally chat with An Ning.

But Lafayette's goal was also very clear. This guy obviously wanted to use the title of "American Founder" to squeeze into the upper class circles of Paris, but Anning was obviously not counted as a member of the upper class circles.

In the end, An Ning still felt comfortable getting along with the Jacobins. These people were all civilians. There was no such identity barrier and they regarded An Ning as one of their own.

When the time came to 1786, the Supreme Court of Paris repeatedly rejected Louis XVI's request to increase taxes. The king once planned to send tax collectors to scrape the land, but the gentlemen of the Supreme Court sent people to recover the money.

The king's finances were becoming more and more difficult, and it was said that the queen had begun to wear old clothes.

Marat wrote an article angrily criticizing the Queen's extravagance. The article also mentioned Robespierre, who was far away in Arras, saying that Robespierre had been wearing the same green coat for the whole time.

I'm in college, and the queen actually has to wear a brand new dress every time she dances. It's so shameful.

In May 1786, Napoleon received his rank of second lieutenant ahead of schedule.

An Ning gave him an officer's uniform as a gift - the officer's uniform issued by the school was too big for Napoleon, making him look like a walking coat rack.

As a symbol of an officer, Napoleon received his own sword, but on the day he was awarded the sword, he told An Ning: "My sword belongs to me, only the belt belongs to France. I will never swing a sword for France."

An Ning responded: "Of course, just follow your heart."

Not long after the sword ceremony, Napoleon set off for Valence, where his regiment was stationed, and where the sixteen-year-old second lieutenant would receive his first men and his first cannon.

On the day of departure, An Ning sent Napoleon out of the city, and then saw him walking briskly on the road - because he refused An Ning's loan, Napoleon decided to walk to his regiment to report.

After seeing off Napoleon, Anning continued his studies. He obtained his diploma and the rank of second lieutenant a year later, and then became a mathematics teacher at the Paris Military Academy under the operation of the Duke of Orleans.

This was An Ning personally asking the Duke for help. He didn't want to leave Paris to serve in the army in the countryside. That would be far away from the center of the future storm. How could he sit on the wall?

On the day she got her military uniform, Christina, who was on duty in the palace, took leave and ran back, and she and Fanny held a small celebration party for An Ning.

According to Christina, the Palace of Versailles has begun to save money, some rooms have been abandoned, and the royal tailors are constantly racking their brains to modify the queen's clothes to make them look new.

It is said that the Queen complained to Louis XVI every day, while His Majesty the King often locked himself in his tool room and fiddled with his locks.

Later that year, the king reinstated the deposed Necker, hoping that he would use "magical magic" to solve financial problems as he had done the last time.

But this time, Necker had no choice.

In 1788, a whole year of natural disasters came.

Grain production has decreased, the price of bread has soared, and there are complaints and lamentations everywhere.

In the middle of this year, An Ning received a long letter from Napoleon. In the letter, Napoleon said excitedly: "Disaster is coming! Farmers who have no food to eat are everywhere around my station. The profiteers in the city are hoarding money. The price of bread has already increased."

It’s 30 sous each! Is the big change you predicted coming soon?”

An Ning wrote back to Napoleon: "Yes, in this case, if the king continues to gather the representatives of the common people regardless of life and death, everything will be like a convex lens facing the sun, all the heat will be concentrated on one point, and it will become white-hot.

Burning!"

At the end of 1788, Louis XVI, who couldn't stand it anymore, officially ordered the selection of representatives to prepare for the convening of the three-level parliament in 1789, which had not been convened for 160 years.

The day the news came out to the Palace of Versailles, An Ning deliberately gave herself a good meal.

He is ready, the thigh stamp collection has been completed, and the fence-riding performance is about to begin——

First of all, his first task is to get himself elected to the three-level parliament.

Without entering the three-level parliament, he can only be a bystander, and cannot really be a cool and unrestrained fence-sitter.
