076 Is this blood really so pure?

On July 16, Louis XVI and Queen Marie took a carriage to Paris Hôtel de Ville.

The king's trip was mainly to show the people of Paris that he accepted the revolution.

In order to show that he stood with the crowd, the king did not wear a gorgeous dress, but instead dressed like a clerk from the Paris City Hall.

It is unimaginable that just a few days ago, he was a tough king who wanted to force the National Assembly to be expelled with the force of the Swiss Army.

But Queen Mary still went out dressed up, with a gorgeous dress with layers of lace and gold threads wrapped around it.

The newly formed members of the Paris Public Council, together with senior officers of the National Guard, welcomed Louis XVI at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris.

An Ning, a lieutenant, was mixed with a group of school officers and had to stand in the front row, right next to Lafayette.

After all, he is the "savior of Parliament" and "the man who kicked open the Bastille", so he is famous.

In fact, if An Ning had the choice, he would rather hide in the back.

Louis XVI entered the hall of the city hall and exchanged greetings with the city officials represented by Bailly. Then Lafayette stepped forward and personally pinned a tricolor round emblem on Louis XVI's boat-shaped hat.

Louis XVI forced out a smile, and then said to the leading figures present: "Long live the people!"

An Ning was shocked. He didn't expect the words "Long live the people" to come out of the mouth of a "Long live the Lord".

It seems that Louis XVI was completely overwhelmed by the revolutionary momentum and decided to fully compromise with the revolutionaries.

When Louis XVI shouted "Long live the people", An Ning saw Queen Mary roll her eyes.

After Lafayette retreated to the ranks of the self-defense officers, the current mayor of Paris, Bailly, told Louis XVI: "The city hall is preparing to mobilize the people to demolish the Bastille to vent the people's negative emotions towards that fortress."

Louis XVI waved his hand and said: "Demolish it, demolish it! I signed an order yesterday to abolish the Royal Prison of the Bastille. That castle is now just an ordinary castle."

After speaking, Louis XVI sighed: "I'm a little tired, so I'm going back to the Palace of Versailles first."

He turned and walked towards the door of the town hall, Queen Mary following him immediately.

Until the end, the queen still released her hostility towards An Ning.

An Ning went to great lengths to pretend not to notice.

A large number of people had gathered in the square outside the city hall. The king and queen got on the carriage and waved to the crowd through the small window of the carriage.

At this time, someone shouted: "Long live your Majesty!"

Then a sparse voice of "Long live" sounded.

Suddenly, a more sonorous and powerful voice shouted: "Long live freedom!"

So the people shouted in unison: "Long live!"

The deafening response was completely different from the situation where there were only a few people who responded to the call to "Long Live Your Majesty" just now.

Louis XVI had a sad face when he heard all this.

The coachman waved his whip, and the carriage with the royal emblem slowly left the City Hall Square.

**

The next day, as soon as An Ning arrived at the Royal Conference Hall in the Palace of Versailles, she heard impassioned voices coming from the conference hall.

He entered the conference hall and saw a representative in a silver cloak making an impassioned speech: "Everyone! The violence is out of control! On the day of the revolution, the people executed the Marquis Delaunay without trial!

"On that day, the mayor of Paris was also lynched without trial! He had just been appointed mayor by His Majesty the King on July 11th, and he had not done anything yet!

"Gentlemen! Put yourself in your shoes! Think about what happened to you! Don't think this is nonsense. The angry people are blind. They can kill these innocent people without hesitation!

"This movement must be stopped before more innocent people are sacrificed, and the so-called revolution must be stopped completely! Otherwise, soon there will not be a single good gentleman left in this country!"

An Ning frowned. He was at the scene when the Marquis of Delaunay was executed. Theoretically at that time, An Ning could have prevented the lynching from happening, but he considered that historically the Marquis of Delaunay died in the Bastille.

After the breakthrough, the so-called choice was made to maintain the original trajectory of history.

To be honest, when the Marquis of Delaunay was executed, the scene was indeed a bit bloody, and one could not help but sympathize with the Marquis.

While the nobleman continued to talk, An Ning found his companions and asked, "Who is this person?"

Dandong: "I don't know, he seems to be a country noble."

Robespierre: "He obviously wants to use the experience of Marquis Delaunay to arouse our sympathy and make us oppose the revolution. How is this possible?"

An Ning: "Then stand up and refute him."

Danton: "Shouldn't you do it? You are the one who stormed the Bastille, and you are on the scene. Come on, stand up and tell everyone that the Marquis Delaunay deserves it!"

An Ningxin said that I was talking nonsense. I want to reduce my influence now. How can I sit on the wall and become the wall myself?

Before An Ning could speak, someone suddenly stood up and interrupted the noble's speech: "That's enough! I've heard enough of this fallacy!"

An Ning squinted her eyes and looked at the man who stood up, realizing that she didn't recognize this guy.

Danton said: "Oh, it's Barnave. He is a very good lawyer and has won many cases."

Lawyer Barnave said angrily: "You have described these people who were lynched as good people and innocent people, and you have described the people who executed them as evil people! But, let me ask you, is this blood really

So pure?

"Aren't they guilty at all? No! At least as far as I know, the Marquis de Launay killed hundreds of people, including children and women!

"If you don't believe us, we can ask Mr. Frost, who was at the scene!"

An Ning was stunned for a moment: "Ah?"

——Don’t CUE me! I don’t want to be in the spotlight right now!

Barnave turned to look at An Ning: "Mr. Frost, tell everyone how many people were sacrificed in the Bastille that day!"

An Ning: "A lot of sacrifices were made. In the urn of the Bastille, there was a river of blood. But most of them were men. I didn't see any women die in the battle."

Barnave: "Whether there are women or not! Anyway, the defenders killed a large number of people. As the commander of the defenders, shouldn't the Marquis Delaunay pay the corresponding price?"

"There is also the former mayor of Paris. He was executed because he deliberately delayed the distribution of weapons and the people suspected that he wanted to stop the revolution!

"So you see, they all deserve it!"

The nobleman standing on the stage speaking had his mouth twitching, but he couldn't come up with a rebuttal.

But Barnave changed the subject: "However, the urban order in Paris is now out of control, with looting and arson everywhere. We should really stop the people's excessive behavior as soon as possible.

"We urgently need General Lafayette to use resolute measures to restore order in Paris."

Lafayette: "I have ordered the National Guard to maintain order in the city. However, the Self-Defense Force alone cannot do it. The Congress should pass as soon as possible a programmatic document that actually recognizes the Enlightenment ideas and can be used as the basic principles of the constitution!"

An Ning thought, no, it's actually very simple to appease the people. Just crack down on the profiteers who hoard and make bread affordable for the people.

But he remained silent. After all, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Human Rights was also very important. It could be said to be the general program of the entire French Revolution.

After Lafayette finished speaking, Mirabeau stood up and said: "I think we should start drafting programmatic documents as soon as possible. This is the most important thing now."
