Chapter 10 The Families in the Courtyard

Considering that many people in the courtyard are illiterate.

Director Ma also asked Yan Bugui to bring a large piece of paper and cut it into eighteen equal pieces.

Write the names of several people in advance on each piece of paper in order.

Then one was given to each household, and everyone just had to mark the check mark.

The final selection result was the first uncle Yi Zhonghai, the second uncle Liu Haizhong, and the third uncle Yan Bugui. The three people who were selected were beaming with joy.

Xu Youfu and He Daqing, who failed in the competition, looked disappointed.

After the election, Director Ma asked everyone to go home.

Only Yi Zhonghai, Liu Haizhong, Yan Bugui, the deaf old lady, and Zheng's mother Wang Cuifen were left to talk.

Zheng Zhendong took his sister back home, lit a kerosene lamp, and started pouring water to wash his feet.

"Third brother, I'm sleepy and I'm going to bed." After saying this, my sister Xinyi entered the partition to the north of the living room.

Zheng Zhendong washed his feet and thought about what to do in the future.

Thinking about living in this courtyard for a long time in the future, I shiver all over. After all, this is the Qinman Siheyuan that later generations of netizens jokingly called it.

Through this period of observation and understanding, Zheng Zhendong had a rough impression of the neighbors in the courtyard.

As soon as you enter the east side of the gate, in the east-facing room live Aunt Ma and her seven or eight-year-old son Ma Fulai and his wife.

Aunt Ma's man had a poor family on the eve of liberation. In order to save food for his wife and children, he had to go out and lie down. As a result, he froze to death outside and his body was not even found.

After liberation, the couple lived on government relief and were well-known poor households in the courtyard.

The three families of Zhao, Liu and Chen live in the opposite room to the west.

Zhao Dali, an old bachelor of the Zhao family, was nicknamed Zhao Ersi. Before liberation, he made a living by pulling a rickshaw. He rented a rickshaw from Sun Erye and Sun Jinfa of Tonghe Car Company.

After liberation, Sun Jinfa was shot for opposing the government.

Zhao Dali was arranged to live here by the government, and now he makes a living by riding a three-wheeler.

There are three members of the Liu family. Liu Haimin, who is 25 and 26 years old, has five big and three thick bangs. He is the mainstay of the family and works as a forger in the steel rolling mill.

Daughter-in-law Liu Li has no job and stays at home doing laundry, cooking and taking care of the children. Her son Liu Jiacheng is still a little kid who is still nursing.

The Chen family lives in a pair of elderly people in their fifties. Neither of them has a job. Mr. Chen, Chen Lixin, is regarded as the concierge of the courtyard. He is responsible for opening and closing the doors, cleaning the courtyard, collecting mail, etc. Each family pays him 5,000 per month.

Yuan is considered a reward.

Chen Wu, the old lady of the Chen family, only does laundry, cooking and cleaning at home and does nothing else.

The old couple has two sons, both of whom work in other places. Money is sent on time every month for the old couple’s expenses.

In the west wing of the front yard, there lived the third uncle and Yan Bugui's family of four.

Yanbu Gui Primary School teacher, teaches in the primary school affiliated with the steel rolling mill, with a monthly salary of 300,000 yuan. Uyghur people are very calculating, nicknamed Yan Laoxi, and have a good abacus.

The third aunt, Yang Ruihua, is a good husband and wife, and she is also a master who knows how to live her life. I heard a few days ago that she is pregnant again. There will be more people in the family soon. I guess she will be even more stingy after giving birth to this child.

The eldest son, Yan Jiecheng, is seven years old and is in the first grade of elementary school. The second son, Jiefang, is just over one year old and has just started talking.

The east wing of the front yard is temporarily vacant, but according to the street, people will be arranged to move in later.

Then talk about the middle court.

The middle courtyard has east and west wings, and the main room of the north house, the wing rooms and the main room have their own side rooms.

The east and west wings have a three-room layout.

The three large rooms in the north house look like the Shazhu's house in the TV series, or even if you think about it with your toes, the main house cannot be one room.

There is a wing room to the west of the main house, where He Yuyu lives. There is a hanging flower door to the west that leads to the backyard.

In the west wing of the central courtyard lived the Wang and Jia families.

Wang has a large family. Aunt Wang, her two sons, a girl, and her eldest daughter-in-law live together as a family of five.

Live in the two rooms on the south side of the west wing.

Aunt Wang is in her forties this year. Her husband, before the liberation, was taken away from home and has never come back. Aunt Wang is a well-known matchmaker in the neighborhood.

The eldest son Wang Cunren, 23 or 24 years old, works as a lathe in a steel rolling mill with a monthly salary of more than 300,000 yuan.

The eldest daughter-in-law, Sun Xiulian, is more than eight months pregnant and lives with her husband in the southernmost half room of the west wing.

Opposite the entrance of Wang's house is half of the living room. The room on this side of the living room is next to Jia's house. This room has been converted into two rooms at the front and back.

In the front room, lived Aunt Wang and her daughter, Queen Erni.

Wang Erni, sixteen or seventeen years old, works in a textile factory.

In the back room lives my youngest son Wang Cunyi, who is about ten years old and studying in primary school.

The three members of the Jia family live in this room to the north of the west wing.

A whole room is divided into two half rooms, the inner room is used as the bedroom, and the outer room is the living room.

There is a small bed in the living room, and Jia Dongxu sleeps on the small bed on weekdays.

Something happened to Lao Jia, and Jia and Zhang went to the steel rolling mill and cried for a while.

Lou Zhensheng and Director Lou were afraid of the negative impact, so they finally paid three million in compensation, promised to reimburse Lao Jia's medical expenses, and asked Jia Dongxu to take up the post, and the Jia family gave up.

Jia Dongxu, who just took up his post a few days ago, is learning fitter skills from Yi Zhonghai.

Jia Fugui's physical injuries were basically healed, but his lower limbs were paralyzed. The hospital could not cure him, so he had to go home and lie down.

In the west wing lived Sun Yanwen and Wu Chunli, a young couple.

Sun Yanwen works as a big boy in Tongheju, and his monthly salary is 250,000 yuan, which is only enough for the young couple.

Wu Chunli has no formal job and does odd jobs outside to supplement her family income.

The east wing houses the Yi and Zheng families, and the east wing houses Zhu Dachang, the eldest brother.

Zhu Dachang, who is twenty-five or six, has not yet married a wife because he looks fierce and is a pig butcher.

Kill a pig for Boss Kong of the nearby Huimin Butcher Shop.

Kill a pig, clean it up, and pay 10,000 yuan plus a pound to deliver the goods.

Because of its delicious intestines, it was nicknamed "Pig's Large Intestine" by Jia Zhang.

The Zheng family had just moved in and were allocated two rooms in the east wing.

The living room and the half room to the south of the living room are one whole room, divided into two half rooms.

Zheng Zhendong lived in half of the room by himself, and Zheng's mother and sister lived in the whole room.

The Yi Zhonghai couple living next door only had one room, which was divided into two and a half rooms, with one half used as a living room and the other half as a bedroom.

Yi Zhonghai works as a fitter in a steel rolling mill. He has good skills and earns 500,000 yuan a month.

Aunt Yi is in poor health and has no job, so she can only cook, wash and clean up at home.

It's just that the couple never had a child, and Yi's mother always felt inferior.

In the main room of the north house, the He and Li families lived.

The He family has a main room facing the west and a west wing.

He Daqing and Shazhu lived in the main room, while He Yuyu lived in the west wing.

When He Daqing's father was alive, he learned Tan's cuisine. He Daqing worked as a cook and only served rich and powerful distinguished guests.

The two men made a lot of money, so they bought the main house and the side house in the courtyard.

Later, when the current situation was turbulent and fewer people ate Tan's food, He Daqing was introduced to Fengzeyuan to learn cooking. During his apprenticeship in Fengzeyuan, He Daqing married a wife and had children, and sent his father away.

Later, when I was working on a small book, I somehow started cooking Tan’s cuisine again.

After Xiao Benzi was driven away, He Daqing's reputation was not very good. In addition, when his wife gave birth to He Yuyu, the root cause of the disease was found. She needed to find a doctor and buy medicine. The cost was not small, so she had to sell steamed buns to make ends meet.

One day in 1947, his wife's condition worsened, and He Daqing was afraid that he would not be able to hold on to the steamed buns he had just steamed.

He arranged for 12-year-old He Yuzhu to sell the buns at a stall. He Yuzhu was young at the time and didn't know how to shout, so the buns were not sold well.

Later, when defeated troops entered the city and looted everywhere, He Yuzhu saw this situation and ran away with the buns in his arms. On the way, he met a passing businessman and bought all the buns.

He Yuzhu took the money from selling the buns and ran back to the courtyard excitedly to give it to He Daqing.

He Daqing saw that his son handed over the money, which was all waste money. He immediately became furious and called "Silly Zhu"...

Only then did He Yuzhu get the nickname Silly Zhu.

At the beginning of 1948, He Daqing's wife passed away, prices soared, and life became increasingly difficult.

After being introduced by the deaf old lady in the backyard, He Daqing joined the steel rolling mill to work as a chef.

When the new country was first founded, the salary was set at 450,000.

The Li family next to the He family is the original owner of this yard.

The ancestors of the Li family served as officials, but later the family fell into decline.

Gradually, the houses in the yard were sold one after another.

Only two main rooms and one east wing remain.

In the Li family, only 30-year-old Li Funian lives alone. Before liberation, his wife was beaten away by him.

Li Funian spent all day eating, drinking, prostitution and gambling, and did not do his job properly. He was punished many times by the street office and turned into a piece of meat. No one in the neighborhood paid attention to him.

After passing the hanging flower gate, you entered the backyard.

In the west wing of the backyard, four members of the Xu family live.

Xu's father, Xu Youfu, was in his mid-thirties, showing movies at Lou's Cinema, and his salary was 400,000.

Xu's mother is in her early thirties and works as a servant in the Lou family. Her salary is uncertain, but it seems to be quite a lot.

My son, Xu Damao, is thirteen years old. He is studying in Dongzhimen Primary School and is a senior high school student. After the Chinese New Year, he may go to junior high school.

On weekdays, Xu Damao often goes to the cinema when he has nothing to do, and learns to play movies with Xu Youfu.

My daughter, Xu Fengling, is eight years old and will start studying at the beginning of the new year.

Liu Haizhong's family of five lives in the east wing opposite the Xu family.

The second uncle, Liu Haizhong, is thirty-seven or eighteen years old, fat and strong. He works as a forger in a steel rolling mill and earns a salary of 450,000.

The second uncle, Liu Haizhong, is from the same family as Liu Haimin in the front yard.

The second aunt, a housewife, has no job.

The eldest son, Liu Guangqi, is 10 years old and is in junior high school. He doesn't care much about family affairs and goes out to play when he has time.

The second son, Liu Guangtian, is six years old and has a tiger-like head. He is often scolded by the second uncle.

The youngest son, Liu Guangfu, is over one year old and has just learned to speak.

There are six rooms in the back house in the backyard, and three households, Qian, Lin, and Yang, live in them respectively, with exactly two rooms for each household.

The Qian family lives in the first house in front of Houchaodong. There are three members of the Qian family. Qian Gensheng, the eldest brother Qian, and his wife live with their three or four-year-old son Qian Sihai.

Qian Gensheng, who is in his mid-twenties, is a barber and goes out to do business every day.

Qian's sister-in-law works in a breakfast shop at the entrance of the street and earns over 100,000 yuan a month.

In the middle two rooms, the deaf old lady lived alone.

The deaf old lady's husband's surname is Lin. She is now in her sixties and has not yet started pretending to be deaf. Everyone calls her Mrs. Lin.

The Yang family lives next to Mrs. Lin.
