957 Repatriation

The resurgence of the U.S. influenza pandemic has put southern Africa at risk from top to bottom.

Viruses respect no borders, especially in countries like Southern Africa, where a large number of immigrants are pouring in every day. The risk of a pandemic outbreak is extremely high. If the defenses are not in place, the whole of Southern Africa will fall overnight.

Walvis Bay and Port Edward, the two immigration import centers, were the first to take action. The quarantine areas built due to the pandemic at the beginning of the year were reactivated. New immigrants arriving in southern Africa must first undergo quarantine and observation to confirm that they are not infected before entering southern Africa.

Except for necessary outings, all public activities have been completely cancelled. Citizens must wear masks when going out, and influenza infections must be reported promptly. Farmers have set up eye-catching signs at the entrances of their farms to refuse all social interactions.

For some public places that must be open, stricter hygiene systems are also implemented. Staff from government departments at all levels take the trouble to explain to everyone the role of maintaining personal hygiene. The already clean and tidy city appearance has been taken to a new level.

After Professor Slim's train arrived in Pretoria, staff thoroughly disinfected the train carriage. This caused the train to stay in Pretoria for half an hour before continuing. After that, there would be workers at every station.

Personnel came in to disinfect the room so frequently that Professor Heslin felt it was overkill.

"Is it too much? This is for your health. Let's see if Germany, which you are proud of, can do this. Why can't it face the gap and admit that it is so difficult for the federal government in Southern Africa to do a better job in public health?"

Mrs. Heslin is welcome, and Professor Heslin really has nothing to say.

Frequent disinfection not only requires a large amount of material support, but what makes Professor Heslin feel palpitated is the efficiency of the federal government in southern Africa.

You must know that Germany is already a relatively efficient country in Europe, but there is still a huge gap compared with the federal government in southern Africa. When the train arrived in Anxi, the influenza pandemic in the United States had just broken out, and when it arrived in Pretoria, there were staff members boarding the train.

Only 30 hours have passed since the car was disinfected. In Germany, a decision may not be reached in three days. It will take at least a week until the relevant agencies start taking action.

Thinking about the speed of the train, it can travel from Walvis Bay to Port Edward in one week.

The current speed of trains is about 40 kilometers per hour. The speed of trains in Southern Africa is no more than 50 kilometers per hour. Plus the stopping time at passing stations, it takes almost three and a half days from Walvis Bay to Los Angeles, including the stopping stations.

It takes at least four days to get to Los Angeles for disinfection.

"During the last influenza outbreak in the United States, the federal government established an emergency command, and Lord Fawalt of the Ministry of Justice served as the director of the emergency command. Once the federal government enters a special period, the emergency command will take over public affairs." Li Tai said.

He was careful when doing so. Ever since Professor Heslin learned about Abu's situation, he never gave Li Tai a good look.

If you are not angry, you must not be angry. You must have the proper attitude.

What surprised Professor Heslin was that it was midsummer in Southern Africa in November, but the temperature was not very high. Southern Africa is closest to tropical Victoria, and the average annual temperature is only 20 to 25 degrees. The hottest summer is only At 28 degrees, and rarely above 30 degrees, Professor Heslin’s impression of Africa is completely different.

The reason why the weather is very cool is mainly because most of southern Africa has plateau terrain. The average altitude in southern Africa is basically above one thousand meters, so it is not hot in summer. Nowadays, there are many people wearing long sleeves and trousers, even at night. It's even a little cold.

As for the big sun that Europeans long for, in southern Africa you can sunbathe every day if you want, as long as it is not the rainy season. There is almost no market for sunbathing in southern Africa.

The train passed through Salisbury and continued north, which is the essence of Nyasaland and Rhodesia. Almost all the cultivated fields as far as the eye can see on both sides of the railway. The popularity of tractors made Professor Heslin secretly shocked. , you can still occasionally see wasteland in Bechuanaland. Since entering the Transvaal, there has been very little wasteland on both sides of the railway. Even the hillsides that are not suitable for reclamation are full of forests, and the number of fruit trees is astonishing. There are also a large number of fast-growing tree species.

The only inconvenience of taking a sleeper compartment is that meals can no longer be delivered to the compartment. You have to go to the dining car to eat. The meals provided in the dining car are not expensive and are almost the same as dining in a normal restaurant. Because the pandemic in the United States has struck again, the number of people dining in the dining car is limited. Reduce the risk of influenza infection as much as possible.

When Li Tai went to order food, Otto was discussing future plans with Erwin. If possible, Otto still wanted to buy a farm in Victoria and did not want to live in the city.

"Why go to Victoria? Isn't it better to stay in Nyasaland? It's best to buy on the edge of the city, so that you can enjoy the convenience of the city and the tranquility of the farm. Maybe the value of the farm will increase in the future as the city expands. It's a good business with huge profits." Erwin's calculation was good, but it was unlikely.

"You all know that the farms on the edge of the city are good, and others must know it too, so don't even think about it in the suburbs of the city, or even near the railway. I estimate that the farms along the railway line and near the river have been sold out. If it doesn't work, I will Find a barren mountain to plant trees, as long as I don't starve to death." Otto's requirements were low, and no good things would happen to them, like the new immigrants.

"Otto, cheer up, you are a graduate of the University of Munich." Erwin encouraged Otto to cheer up. Mr. Melk also worked at the University of Munich, and his son graduated from the University of Munich quite normally.

"So what? We both graduated from seminaries, find a church to become pastors?" Otto now knew why there are no seminaries in universities in southern Africa.

It’s not that there are none. The University of Good Hope has a seminary with a lot of students. However, the employment prospects for graduates from the seminary are a bit narrow, so there is a huge gap in popularity compared with engineering and business majors.

"It's not impossible to be a pastor, but people in southern Africa don't have strong beliefs. I'm afraid they won't donate 10% of their income to the church." Erwin is not opposed to becoming a pastor. Anyway, pastors can get married, unlike ordinary people. What a difference.

Those who cannot get married are Catholic priests. Even the Pope cannot get married, so naturally priests cannot get married.

The requirements in Protestant countries are not so strict. George V and William II can get married, so it is normal for priests to get married.

There are many jokes circulating in Europe about the beliefs of southern Africans. Legend has it that during the World War, soldiers from southern Africa went to the wrong church and were beaten and thrown out.

Of course, these jokes are all made up, but they also reflect that southern Africans are indeed not firm enough on the issue of faith.

Before Otto could speak, a stranger passing by the table suddenly asked: "German?"

Erwin nodded subconsciously and smiled at the same time.

The stranger looked contemptuous and cursed a dirty word as he passed by.

"What did you say?" Erwin and Otto stood up immediately.

"I said the Germans are damn bastards! What do you think?" The stranger was not afraid and still looked at Erwin and Otto with cold eyes.

"I don't know where I offended you, but you must apologize for these words now, otherwise I will deepen your impression." Erwin was not polite, he was already ready to take action, most of the time like this

There is going to be a fight, and Otto is also gearing up.

"Wait, wait," Li Tai, who had finished ordering, came to the rescue in time.

The strange white man didn't appreciate it. Looking at Li Tai's obvious Chinese appearance, he casually cursed another curse word starting with "y".

"Very well, it can't be solved by apologizing now. Waiter, please inform the police for me." Mr. Li Tai always talks but does not do anything. Racial discrimination is a very serious crime in southern Africa, and the relevant laws are mainly formulated for the Chinese.

Africans will not face discrimination in Southern Africa because there are no Africans in Southern Africa.

"Ha, I just stated a fact. You are all damn bastards, so what if you notify the police?" The white guy was still complacent. This kind of behavior is indeed normal in Europe, but in southern Africa

"You just arrived in southern Africa, right?" Li Tai said calmly.

"yes!"

“You don’t know the laws of Southern Africa, do you?”

"What law?" The white guy's expression became serious, and he clearly felt that something was wrong.

"It doesn't matter. The police will explain the relevant legal provisions in Southern Africa to you later." Li Tai was not angry. Many white people who had just arrived in Southern Africa would make similar mistakes. They probably still fantasized about coming to Southern Africa, a "British colony".

"It's a pity that white people in southern Africa don't have many privileges when they dominate and dominate. People go to jail every day because of this and will be deported after they are released from prison.

The efficiency of the police was still high, and they quickly came over to interrogate the white guy.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know it would be like this." The white boy panicked and threatened to go to jail for swearing. The white boy really couldn't accept it.

"I don't know if it's not the reason for your crime. When you came to southern Africa, didn't the immigration officer explain similar terms to you?" The police officer didn't talk nonsense to the white boy, and directly knocked him down and handcuffed him.

"Oh my god, the immigration officer said so much, how could I remember it all at once?" The white guy shouted that he was wronged, but no one stood up for him. All the passengers in the dining car looked at the white guy with disgust. It was a crime committed by God.

It is forgivable, but you will not survive if you do it yourself.

"That's your problem. Don't blame others if you can't remember. You have plenty of time in the cell to memorize it slowly." The policeman didn't talk nonsense. It is estimated that even if the white guy memorizes the relevant legal provisions, it will be useless. After he is released from prison

, will most likely be deported.

ps: In special times, we don’t dare to create too serious conflicts. In real life, there are very few people who are ready to fight.
