At six o'clock in the morning, six landing ships loaded with Marines, protected by more than 40 warships, arrived at the Lubang Islands in the central Philippines, which will become the forward base for the Allied forces to land in the Philippines.
The Lubang Islands are composed of the main island of Lubang and dozens of large and small islands such as Ambir, Goro and Kabra, with a total area of 246 square kilometers, of which the main island of Lubang covers an area of 192 square kilometers.
In another time and space, in 1944, 23-year-old Onoda served on Lubang Island. When his superior Tanita withdrew, he ordered Onoda to continue fighting. Tanita told Onoda: Our retreat is only temporary. You go into the mountains, lay landmines, and blow up warehouses.
Dealing with the enemy, I forbid you to commit suicide or surrender. After three, four or five years, I will come back. Only I can cancel this order.
I didn’t expect that the wait would be 30 years.
In February 1945, the U.S. military landed on Lubang Island. Most of the Japanese troops surrendered or died in battle. Onoda and three other Japanese soldiers performed Tanita's mission and continued to engage in guerrilla warfare with the U.S. military.
In August 1945, Japan unconditionally surrendered, and the U.S. military dropped leaflets on Lubang Island, urging the recalcitrant Japanese troops to surrender.
Onoda believed that this was a trick by the Japanese army. One hundred million Japanese were still alive, so how could the Japanese government surrender? So Onoda continued to fight.
In 1965, Onoda stole a radio and heard reports on international relations in the news.
Onoda couldn't accept all this and still shot farmers and burned the rice.
It was not until 1974, when Japanese explorer Norio Suzuki found Onoda and told him that the war had ended 30 years ago, that Onoda was willing to lay down his arms and surrender.
In this time and space, Onoda has no chance to serve on Lubang Island. There are not even Japanese troops on Lubang Island.
After the Battle of the Philippines, before Japan had time to consolidate its territory, bombings by the Southern African Air Force had already followed one after another. The Japanese had not even had time to fully occupy Mindanao...
There were no surprises during the landing, and there were no targets to attack on the beach.
The Marines landed in landing craft, and the engineers built a simple pontoon next to the beach. The engineering machinery soon came ashore, and the progress was greatly accelerated.
While the forward base was being built on Lubang Island, the battleship "East India" belonging to the Indian Ocean Fleet shelled the Japanese fortifications on Luzon Island.
This is something to be thankful for. The battleships in Southern Africa have been in service for 20 years, and now they finally have a valuable opportunity for actual combat. The 12 340 mm caliber main guns on the "East India" are at full firepower, and other warships have also begun to approach the shore.
Carry out shelling.
It was naval pilots who launched the attack earlier than the warships.
The planned landing area of the Southern African army was Calatagan. This area had been bombed repeatedly by the Southern African Air Force before June 1. The Japanese air force deployed in the Philippines also suffered a devastating blow from the Southern African Air Force.
Unable to provide support to Karatagan.
Even so, the "Goshawk" fighter jets were the first to take off. The Southern African Air Force must ensure that air superiority over the landing site is firmly in its own hands.
The Japanese army made a lot of preparations to prevent the Allied forces from landing. There were not many fortifications near the coastline. The Japanese army was more concentrated in the inland areas, preparing to rely on the complex terrain of the inland to deal with the Allied forces.
The shelling and bombing lasted for half an hour, and all the few Japanese fortifications were destroyed.
Not satisfied with this, the command sent horizontal bombers to drop incendiary bombs on Calatagan, completely destroying it before the Marines began to land.
For Marines, landing operations are extremely skilled.
The equipment of the Marine Corps is very advanced, and it is easy to establish a beachhead. Amphibious tanks are driven directly ashore as a defensive fulcrum, and the engineers begin to erect pontoons to open a channel for the landing of heavy equipment.
The Corps of Engineers' pontoons are similar to naval shipbuilding. They have been modularized for a long time. Just like construction workers building a house, it only takes about an hour to build a pontoon by assembling pre-made modules together.
Following the landing of the Marine Corps was the 16th Division, which was also a meritorious unit. It participated in the Battle of the Dardanelles in the last World War and a series of large-scale battles after the landing in France.
Like the Rainbow Division, the 16th Division was disbanded after the end of the last world war and was rebuilt just three years ago.
Different from the Rainbow Division, when the 16th Division was rebuilt, the Ministry of Defense of Southern Africa transferred a large number of experienced officers from the army. The sergeants of the 16th Division were all transferred from the Umbrella Company. They were extremely experienced and became officers.
They are our good helpers. These sergeants are very respected. The oldest among them is over 50 years old, and many of them participated in the last world war.
Randolph, who is from the Transvaal, is a veteran of the last World War. He is 52 years old and was able to return to the army because of special approval from the Ministry of Defense of Southern Africa.
In the 16th Division, Randolph was nicknamed "Dad" because not only was Randolph much older than other soldiers, Randolph also used his actions to gain the respect of other soldiers. He treated
The other soldiers really treat him like their own children.
"Move quickly, don't stay in one place for a long time, make sure there is cover where you are at all times, trust the weapon in your hand, and care for it like you care for your own eyes." Randolph is a first-class sergeant major, although he still has no
Breaking away from the category of soldiers, the treatment is actually similar to that of a colonel.
The soldiers don't need Randolph's reminder. They have all been in the army for more than two years. Compared with the new recruits of the Rainbow Division, they are already veterans and know what they should do.
Randolph's company is light infantry, and each squad is equipped with a light machine gun, a precision shooter equipped with a sniper rifle, a 90mm rocket launcher, and a "Super Revolver" grenade launcher.
Such equipment is absolutely insane. Not to mention the Japanese, even the Americans cannot reach this level now. After being equipped with rocket launchers, the light infantry in southern Africa already have the ability to fight against the Japanese armored forces.
Using a 90mm rocket launcher to deal with the thin armor of the 97 tank is actually a waste.
Using a 60mm rocket launcher to deal with the Type 97 already has excess firepower. The 90mm rocket launcher was actually prepared for the Germans.
Of course, the 90mm rocket launcher can also play a certain role in attacking permanent fortifications.
"Dad, come here and take a rest. They have practiced many times before and don't need you to keep an eye on their butts." Company commander Second Lieutenant Zhang Cheng graduated from the Nyasaland Army Academy and retired before the outbreak of the world war in southern Africa.
After participating in the war, he responded to the call of the Ministry of Defense and returned to the army.
Zhang Cheng carries a Nyasaland semi-automatic rifle on his back. This is Zhang Cheng's habit. Many southern African officers will carry a rifle with them during combat. For southern African soldiers, rifles are their most trusted partners.
Randolph was carrying an assault rifle produced by Milner City.
Although semi-automatic rifles are good, there is still a big gap compared with assault rifles in terms of firepower continuity. This mainly depends on personal preference. There are also sergeants who choose submachine guns or shotguns in pursuit of short-range firepower. The main difference between submachine guns and assault rifles is
Bullets, assault rifles use semi-charged intermediate-power rifle bullets, submachine gun bullets and pistol bullets are common, the caliber is larger than rifle bullets, and the charge is much smaller.
Randolph, with an assault rifle slung across his body, looked at the orderly beach with a self-deprecating smile.
Times have really changed.
When Randolph arrived in Europe with the Southern African Expeditionary Force in the last World War, most of the soldiers in the army were new recruits and needed constant reminders from veterans.
It's even more dangerous when working in the Umbrella Company. New mercenaries will definitely hurt their companions if they make mistakes, so Randolph has developed the habit of reminding others at all times.
The current level of professionalism in the Southern African National Defense Force is much better than that during World War I. The vast majority of Southern African soldiers graduated from middle school. They receive military training every year in primary and secondary school. Many of them are boy scouts.
I spent the whole summer vacation in the military camp, and the school often organized students to visit military camps. All southern Africans are familiar with military camps.
What's more, most of these soldiers received up to two years of military training before arriving in the Philippines. The only thing they lack now is experience.
Or maybe I just haven't seen blood.
Deputy company commander Liu Yun said nothing, but smiled and handed Randolph a cigarette.
Liu Yun is a Basutolan, and the 16th Division is mainly composed of Basutolan people. In this regard, southern Africa still follows the British tradition and is accustomed to organizing troops in states or counties.
"Your cigarette case is good, where did you buy it?" Randolph chatted casually. The cigarette case in Liu Yun's hand was very beautiful. On the silver cigarette case was a fully armed South African mastiff. This was not the one from the Johannesburg Police Department.
The mascot is the emblem of the 16th Division.
The military flag of the 16th Division is this South African mastiff named "Wangcai".
Usually, prosperity appears with a serious expression.
The prosperous one on Liu Yun's cigarette box is wearing an armed belt, a tanker's leather hat on his head, a microphone installed on his mouth, and a face that is usually worn only by motorcycle drivers.
The goggles he was wearing, and a Nyasaland rifle placed next to him, looked very cool.
"Military Service Society, you just need to tell me your serial number, and the salesperson will help you find it." Liu Yun thought for a moment and simply handed the cigarette box to Randolph. It wasn't worth much anyway: "I'll give it to you, dad. I'll get back to you later."
Go buy another one."
This father was really filial. Randolph did not take advantage of Liu Yun and took out a pocket watch from his breast pocket and threw it to Liu Yun.
This is an old-fashioned pocket watch, the kind with a small box on the other end of the chain. The outer shell of the pocket watch is stained, and it looks like an old item at first glance.
"Thank you, dad!" Liu Yun was not polite to Randolph. An old guy like Randolph who participated in the last world war had a lot of these things at home.
In recent years, some people have estimated that during World War I, the Southern African Expeditionary Force brought back at least 15,000 trophies from Europe, with a total value of more than 10 billion pounds.
This was the pound sterling from 20 years ago.
Veterans like Randolph would be embarrassed to say that they had been to Europe if they did not have a hundred or eighty trophies at home. Some veterans made a fortune by reselling trophies after returning to southern Africa from Europe.
"You have all missed the opportunity. If you want to get rich, you can only hope to reach Japan. These poor Filipinos have been plundered by the Spaniards and Americans for hundreds of years. They are so poor that they can't even wear pants." Randolph
There is no expectation of fighting in the Philippines. What money can the colonies have?
Even if there are any, they have been snatched up by the Japanese.
"No, no, no, dad, we are fighting for honor and justice!" Liu Yun looked upright. After finishing speaking, he burst out laughing. He probably didn't believe it himself.
"Japanese civilians are also very poor. There are not many rich people. All the Japanese money has been stolen by Americans." Zhang Cheng resented it. The Japanese not only robbed Filipinos, but also robbed Chinese people. In the end, they all got cheaper.
to the United States.
Propaganda agencies in Southern Africa are not vegetarians. Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? Southern African media have clearly analyzed it. Los Angeles TV set up a new channel to report on the world war. If nothing happened, they invited some military experts from the Ministry of Defense and Lan
Economic experts from Deutsche Bank gave a program together.
Radio stations do it too.
This kind of program has a fixed process. It first reports on the tragic life of the people in the Old Continent after the fall of the Old Continent. Then the concept of "civilized center" that Europeans spent hundreds of years shaping collapsed in the overwhelming program.
Next, we will introduce the outstanding performance of the Southern African army in the North African battlefield and the East Asian battlefield. At this time, we will probably recall how Southern Africa saved Europe in the last world war.
Of course, this process is indispensable for all kinds of fancy flattery. The program producers are not exaggerating, the key is that the audience likes to watch it.
In all the programs, the ending part looks to the future, and there is no doubt that it must be a new world dominated by southern Africa.
"It doesn't matter if you don't have money. Japan has never been rich. Don't you know what Japan is most famous for?" Randolph smiled ambiguously.
"What?" Zhang Cheng hasn't reacted yet.
Liu Yun obviously understood, rubbing the stubble on his chin with a confused look on his face.
"Oh oh oh, I understand. We still have to emphasize to our brothers later that we must pay attention to personal hygiene." Zhang Cheng suddenly realized.
However, Japanese women are not very attractive to most southern Africans. On the contrary, American soldiers are unscrupulous.
Most Japanese women have long waists and short legs. Apart from their personality, they actually do not conform to the aesthetics of southern Africans.
Where is southern Africa?
Since the last world war, southern Africa has been a paradise for immigrants from all over the world.
After the successful holding of several large-scale comprehensive sports games, coupled with the beautiful natural scenery in southern African movies, and the happy and stable life, young people in southern Africa really have no shortage of women.
Not to mention the distance, girls from allied countries in southern Africa want to marry in southern Africa.
