Zhang Taotao spit out all the water he had just drank and coughed violently, breaking the moment of silence.
"I have something else to do, so I'll leave first."
Xiu Yu didn't seem to hear anything and went out directly.
Jing Miao calmly fed Xiaobai the soup without even raising his eyelids.
"Miaomiao, don't think too much. I didn't tell Xiu Yu anything because my two babies like Xiu Yu, so don't think too much."
Zhang Taotao explained to Jing Miao with a nervous look on his face, and even the words he spoke were a bit inconsistent.
Jing Miao reassured her, "It's okay."
Zhang Taotao sent his driver to take Jingmiao and her son home.
"Mommy, I called Uncle An today."
Xiaobai lay on Jingmiao's shoulder and said excitedly
"Really? Xiaobai likes Uncle An very much?"
"Yeah, I like it very much"
Xiaobai nodded, his immature face very solemn.
"Why?"
Xiaobai refused to say anything anymore.
The two of them went up the corridor. My mother, Sun Aiyun, was not at home today. She went to a small town to stay for a few days.
She hugged Xiaobai and entered the door. As soon as she turned on the light, there was a snap and the whole living room became dark again.
In the darkness, Xiaobai nervously hugged Jingmiao's neck. Jingmiao quickly patted Xiaobai's back and comforted the child, "Don't be afraid. Mommy is here. Mommy is next to you today. Don't be afraid."
I tried pressing the button a few more times, but still nothing happened. The whole room was pitch black, and there wasn't even a candle in the house.
She carried her son to the window. The whole world outside was dark and black. Even the street lights were turned off. It was probably because there was a power outage in this community.
Jing Miao had no choice but to take out her mobile phone, and then followed the dim light from the mobile phone screen and went downstairs along the old stairs.
In the darkness, he accidentally kicked the garbage that someone threw at the entrance of the corridor. It was almost instinctive for him to stumble. Jing Miao quickly hugged Xiaobai tightly in his arms.
With a bang, the mobile phone, which was emitting a faint light, fell along the gap between the handrails of the stairs.
Cursing inwardly that she was unlucky, Jing Miao hugged Xiaobai and could only be more cautious. She had indeed lived in this building for almost twenty years, and it seemed very familiar to her. But now she still held Xiaobai in her arms and stepped on her feet.
Wearing a pair of high heels, she didn't dare to take any risks
In the darkness, there was a sound of footsteps downstairs, getting faster and faster, as if someone was running up the stairs.
Jing Miao quickly hugged her son and shrank to the other side, fearing that someone running up from downstairs would hit her.
The footsteps suddenly disappeared
Xiaobai suddenly leaned into Jing Miao's ear and said cautiously, "Mommy, is there a ghost?"
"How is that possible?"
Jing Miao's heart was also raised. The sound of rapid footsteps just now disappeared out of thin air.
Although she denied what Xiaobai said, her mind recalled the things she had heard about in this building when she was a child. She felt a little guilty and quickly moved again.
Suddenly a beam of light came over, and a male voice sounded, asking uncertainly, "Jing Miao? Xiao Bai?"
Xiaobai turned around and saw clearly the man holding the flashlight, "It's Uncle Xiu."
Xiu Yu came closer, took Xiaobai from Jing Miao's arms, and cast the light on the ground, "There's a power outage here. We're repairing the circuit. I heard from the property management that the call won't come until one o'clock in the middle of the night."
"The power is out, what are you doing here?"
"Go buy candles"
Jing Miao felt a little uncomfortable
"I haven't walked here, and the community is not very safe at night. It's better to stay at home."
Xiu Yu held a flashlight in her hand and was about to walk up, but Jing Miao stood still, "My phone fell, I have to pick it up."
He turned around, and something suddenly was placed in Jing Miao's hand. The square metal touch was the cell phone she had just dropped.
Xiu Yu held Jing Miao's hand with her backhand, and said in a calm magnetic voice, "Follow me."
Jing Miao struggled for a moment, but was held tightly by an even stronger force.
After returning home, Jing Miao hugged Xiaobai and sat on the sofa. He watched Xiu Yu enter the kitchen in the dark. After a while, the kitchen became bright.
He held the candlestick and placed it on the nanmu coffee table in front of the sofa. The warm light was soft and illuminated most of the living room.
Xiaobai nestled quietly next to Jing Miao, blinked at Xiu Yu who was sitting opposite, then looked at Jing Miao, and asked innocently, "Uncle, why don't you go home?"
Jing Miao almost laughed out loud. Xiaobai was really his biological son, so he said what he wanted to say.
Xiu Yu coughed lightly, "Then I'll leave first. You guys should rest early. Remember to place this candlestick on the ground later. There shouldn't be anything flammable around it. Don't place it too close to the window or cabinet."
"Yeah, got it!"
Xiao Bai responded impatiently and waved his hand towards Xiu Yu.
He stood up, hesitated for a moment, and the tall shadow was projected on the wall of his home, showing a bit of sadness silently. He slowly walked to the door, the door closed softly, and the whole room returned to silence again.
"Mommy, don't be afraid, Xiaobai will protect you."
Xiaobai rubbed herself against Jing Miao's knees, her big black and white eyes in the vague soft light, so clear that she almost had hallucinations.
Xiaobai softly shouted again, "Mommy"
Jing Miao then turned around and said, "Baby, go to sleep soon. Mommy will stay with you."
Xiaobai nodded and fell asleep in Jing Miao's arms like a sloth.
Jing Miao sat on the sofa and listened to Xiaobai's breathing getting longer and longer. She stared at the candle burning quietly in front of her, as if she was crying non-stop.
After staring for a long time, her eyes became sore. Jing Miao slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.
