Chapter 12 Tunnel Fortifications (3)

Chapter 12: Trail Fortifications (III)

The biggest advantage of this kind of tunnel is that it uses materials locally, and the workload is not very large. With the people in the company working almost day and night, more than a dozen were prepared in just one day...

也许有人会说,那战士们都不用睡觉不用休息的?

We can't understand it without experiencing the rainy season in Vietnam... Of course, we also want to sleep and rest, but we wake up immediately after being hit by the heavy rain, especially at night, when the temperature drops and the wind blows

A blow can make people tremble all over.

We do have tents that can shelter from wind and rain... But this is a battlefield. tents are obviously targeted and cannot block bullets, and even grenades. At night, any Vietnamese agent can touch it and shoot a few shots according to this tent.

I solved the people inside, so no one can sleep inside and dare not sleep. In addition, I was trembling with coldness when I was not active inside, so I rested for a while and decided to start work.

At least I feel at ease when I am with the soldiers!

This situation did not change until the first tunnel was built... The first tunnel was Commander Luo. After crawling in and lying inside for a while, he came out and nodded at me and said, "

You kid is really good. Although it is not very comfortable to live... but saving your life should be no problem!"

With the recognition of Company Commander Luo, the soldiers cheered like they had won a battle, and they all rushed to climb in and try their feelings.

Seeing this, I couldn't help but smile bitterly. There is a saying that "Golden nests and silver nests are not as good as your own doghouse." Now we are very sorry that this is the case... You must know that because there is too much rain at this time, the rain will still pass through the soil from all directions.

Infiltrate into the tunnel. They just go out through the drainage ditches. So the tunnel is tide, narrow and black... almost a cave full of mud.

However, it was such a cave, but because it was built by the soldiers, it took more than two hours for more than 40 people to build it. So the soldiers did not dislike it, but felt comfortable hiding here, at least not needing it.

It was windy and rainy outside.

So the first tunnel soon became our safe haven. Some soldiers could hide in and rest when they were really tired. If they said comfortable, they would be a bit self-deception. But at least the threat of life is less, and they have a lot of sense of security.

"Plane leader!" After lying in for a while, the scholar came out and said, "It's really not very comfortable to have mud inside, why don't we... let's lay a layer of logs at the bottom!"

"This is a good idea!" The company commander quickly agreed: "It will be much more comfortable to lay a layer of logs on it, and it won't be a layer of mud when you roll!"

But I didn't say anything because I didn't hear the old man say that there were logs at the bottom... This is not to say that I was rigid, but I think the tunnel built by the old man and the others have been tested in practice, and so

It took several years to fight... If the logs can increase the comfort level with just a paving, why don't the old man and the others do it?

Just like before, some soldiers said that they would make this tunnel bigger, and even connect the tunnels to form a whole... Then I thought. If this is possible, why don’t the old man and the others do it? The Japanese devils don’t do it? Is it the old man?

Don’t you know if you do this?

The answer is obviously not. The underground castle built by the Japanese invaders on the old street fully illustrates this point.

Then they must have their own reasons if they don't do this. There must be some flaws and impracticality in doing this. After thinking about it, I quickly understood... The biggest enemy of our tunnel is rain. It's raining all the time. If

Let's expand this tunnel and even open up each other... Well, being washed away by the rain can easily cause landslides. There is no doubt that the danger this brings to us will be much greater than the benefits.

Similarly, I believe that the idea of laying logs on the bottom to increase comfort is not practical, but I don't know where the problem lies.

As a result, the scar solved my doubts: "Cut... lay logs on the bottom, aren't you looking for death? If the entrance of this tunnel is blown up by the Japanese or washed away by the rain, you will be inside.

Wait for death!”

I thought it was really... If there was no logs laid, someone was trapped in the tunnel, so there was a way to save himself. You could dig it out of the soil layer. But if you lay logs on the bottom... OK, you can dig them up and down

Digging the unmoving wood will undoubtedly cause a bigger landslide, so you can only wait for death inside.

Later, some soldiers from other troops did this... They found that the logs could not increase the comfort when they were laid in the tunnel. They might be more comfortable at the beginning, but because we still had mud everywhere on the side walls of the tunnel.

After a few rounds of time, the originally clean logs were quickly covered with mud, and they had no effect at all. What's even more terrible is that sometimes when fighting wars, they had to cat in the tunnel day and night.

In other words, urination and defecation must be in the tunnel... The tunnel with logs at the bottom is even more terrifying.

So in the end we didn't do such a thankless thing. The whole company worked together to dig more than a dozen tunnels in one breath within 24 hours. Commander Luo calculated this way and could hide from each tunnel.

If there are three people, it will be almost done if they dig a few in one day. In addition, they will make a few backups. If a tunnel collapses or there are supplementary soldiers, there will be no place to hide.

But what we didn't expect was that the time given to us by the Japanese devils was less than two days...

It was noon the next day. We had just hid in the tunnel and finished eating biscuits and rested for a while, and were about to start working... A terrible roar suddenly came from outside, followed by a muffled sound, which only shocked our tunnel

The mud on the top and side walls fell down.

We didn't dare to neglect our rifle, so we grabbed the rifle and drilled out of the tunnel and waited outside... The reason we did this was because we knew that the Japanese artillery could not hit our back slope; the other was because we were worried that the tunnel would be knocked down by the artillery.

Buried alive in it; more importantly... we were not ready at this time, and a network of contacts had not been established between the tunnels, which means that the company commander could not command us to fight in a unified manner.

"What are the Japanese in Yue doing?" Xiao Shitou asked, "Is this going to attack?"

"How can it be!" the scholar replied: "We engineers are covered with mines on that side, and the Japanese can complete the order in one day?"

"Where do I think..." Xu Guochun joked: "The Vietnamese Japanese want to test whether the tunnel we dug is qualified!"

The soldiers laughed out loud.

Scar listened carefully, shook his head and said, "The Japanese are clearing mines!"

I also agree with Scar because the sound of the cannon is not dense, and the explosion points are very scattered. One shot here and another shot seems to have no target at all.

Sure enough, Company Commander Luo contacted the sentry on the top position through the walkie-talkie... The enemy could not be seen at all, and the Japanese devils' artillery still exploded without a sound, and it was not until more than ten minutes later that it completely stopped.

.

But the sound of cannons stopped does not mean that it was quiet. What followed was the sound of explosions in the rain... Needless to think, it was the Japanese who were using grenades and the detonating cables were clearing mines.

Corps Luo took us to climb the top of the mountain and saw it... I understood why the Japanese devils would be so relieved to clear mines under our noses: the visibility was low in the rain, and now the Vietnamese army used artillery to us again

There was a burst of explosions in front of the position, so smoke and evaporated water vapor everywhere... the whole world was blurred.

Where does this water vapor come from? The shells exploded and there is a temperature... Although I don't know how high the temperature is, it is obviously enough to evaporate the surrounding rain, so it seems like a layer of thick fog floated in front of our position.

, providing good cover for the Vietnamese army to clear mines.

"Marx!" Company Commander Luo shouted to the artillery observer following him: "Is there any way to do him a few shots?"

Marx climbed up with his hands and feet, poked his head out and observed for a while, and then said, "Company Commander... The Japanese devils are on the back slope, and long-range artillery fire cannot be fired! There is no problem with the mortar, but they just can't see the target...

Only the voice can tell the location of Da Lei!”

"Then let's fight a few shots!" Company Commander Luo immediately ordered: "The arrogance of the Vietnamese Japanese!"

"Yes!" Marx responded and soon waved to several other artillery observers to prepare them.

Several pale-faced artillery observers quickly commanded the soldiers to set up mortars... At this time, we had two 82mm caliber mortars on our hands. Originally, this gun was not worthy of such a gun.

It’s a pure infantry company, there’s nothing else. We can’t fight without training and we can’t fight accurately!

If you really want to match it during battle, you will also have a machine gun company in one battalion. Sometimes, in order to cooperate with the company's operations, you will also have a machine gun platoon for this company... Simply put, the gunners in the company will strengthen together with the guns.

But at this moment, the superiors were busy retreating and deploying defenses on the border. There was a lot of chaos on both ends, so they could not care about what machine gun platoons were equipped for us. So we didn't care about that much, when we came up

I went to the logistics department to get two mortars and a batch of shells before talking about it... Anyway, we are in the Hero Company, and the superiors don't say anything about equipment they want, so that's not in vain!

Originally, we couldn’t shoot even if we had guns, no one had ever shot them?

Some people will say...Aren't many soldiers in the Second Company old soldiers? Haven't they fired a mortar after being a soldier for several years?

This is not uncommon in this era. Veterans spend most of their time holding hoes and sickles... let alone this mortar, there are many people who have never seen a rocket launcher.

But accidentally, the superior sent us a few artillery observers, so we can now make them free teachers. (To be continued...)
