Our set of defensive measures was established after the No. 2 Pass... The reason is very simple. Basically, the mortar positions before the No. 2 Pass have been removed by the Soviet army, and there are only five or six left in total.
The more secretive ones had never been artillery... Once the mortar positions that had never been artillery were covered with snow, it was difficult for them to be discovered by the Soviet army, so they were able to survive.
But this way of surviving seems to have little effect... because the next step for the Soviet army is to occupy it with infantry!
This infantry is no longer the special forces of the Soviet army, but paratroopers who are trained to be stronger than ordinary arms and some distance from the special forces... The Soviet army may have tasted the sweetness of the special forces fighting in Afghanistan, so now it often uses special forces or
Quasi special forces!
But then again... the Soviet army's ordinary arms are actually very difficult to perform combat missions in Afghanistan. Not to mention that Afghanistan at this time was full of snow and it was very difficult to walk. It was at an altitude of 3,000 meters and it was still steep.
Fighting in the mountainous area will probably make ordinary soldiers fall down from exhaustion in just a few days!
This is followed by low morale, followed by a drastic drop in combat effectiveness and the emergence of deserters. If this continues, there may be a mutiny...
But special forces or quasi-special forces are different. They have high requirements for physical fitness. Not only are they strong in combat, but they can also quickly adapt to combat tasks in harsh environments. They can even be attacked by the enemy and unable to receive reinforcements in time.
Sometimes you can stand alone.
So there is no need to think too much... If there is any important mission, let the special forces do it, especially for important targets like the Cigeo Valley!
So when Alpha had almost pulled out the mortar positions in the mountainous area... the Soviet paratroopers appeared again immediately, using helicopters to carry teams of teams to occupy the commanding heights in the mountainous area and then build fortifications with the transportation and help of helicopters...
...Although the quality of the paratroopers is not as good as that of the Alpha troops, their advantage is that they are large in number, and they are just right for completing this occupation mission.
This also makes our mortar positions on both sides of Valley No. 01 that have not been discovered by the Soviet army useless... There are Soviet devils everywhere. As long as the artillery is fired, the Soviet army will discover it... Then there is nothing.
Same!
What we can do... is to withdraw the equipment and personnel from the mortar position at night... The artillery shells in the mortar position will definitely not be withdrawn. This is also the reason why our army's ammunition is depleted so quickly.
...Each mortar position needs to store a considerable number of artillery shells, but these shells disappeared after the mortar position was captured by the Soviet army, and may even be used by the Soviet army... After all, the mortars we use
The cannons are all imitations of those from the Soviet Union, so the shells can be used as long as they have the same caliber!
So... under this situation, it is impossible for us to implement new defensive measures on both sides of Valley 01... Even after the Soviet army made these actions, Valley 01 has actually been lost...
Because as long as any troop enters Valley 01... it will be attacked by Soviet firepower from both sides, plus the attack of Soviet airpower overhead!
Even the Soviet army has learned to be smart... and knows the trick of "encircling a point to bring reinforcements"... instead of attacking the guerrillas stationed at Pass No. 1, they still continue to conduct tentative attacks as before to consume the defenders' ammunition.
They are waiting for reinforcements from our main force...
Of course I would not be so stupid. Going for reinforcements would mean falling into a trap carefully set by the Soviet army. What's more, the guerrillas at Pass No. 1 do not need our reinforcements at all. The tunnels at Pass No. 1 have long been dug...
...On a dark and windy night for a month, it would be enough to escape the surveillance of the Soviet army through the tunnel and then hide in the mountains on both sides.
Of course, before leaving, they will use time bombs to detonate the ammunition depot and blow up the fortifications at Pass No. 1 so that they will not be used by the Soviet army!
I believe that these tactics are all suggestions given by the Vietnamese advisory group to the Soviet army... This makes me feel like I am back on the battlefield in Vietnam, and what I have to face now is the combat experience of the Vietnamese advisory group and the modernization of the Soviet army.
Equip these two powerful threats!
I have to admit that this puts a lot of pressure on me... The modern equipment of the Soviet army is enough to give me a headache, and now the minds of the Vietnamese advisory group are also added... This directly makes the current Soviet army step by step and fight steadily.
It's encroaching on the Cigeo Valley...and this is just one direction of the valley. The same scene is also happening in the south!
But let’s say we have no way to survive... This is true. The Soviet offensive is only at both ends, that is, the south and north exits of the valley, and there is basically no blockade on the mountainous areas on both sides of the valley... We can completely disperse to
Go fight guerrillas in the mountains on both sides!
But this is where the Soviet army's attack is so powerful... What they want is the Xigeo Valley. As for whether our people run away, this is not their strategic goal!
Or you can put it this way... As long as the Chigeo Valley falls into the hands of the Soviet army, then our 74th Unit will lose most of its combat effectiveness... Can the anti-aircraft artillery be taken away? Can the anti-aircraft machine gun be taken away? How many can be taken away?
Where's the ammunition? From now on, I won't just have to be chased by Soviet helicopters...
And I also believe that...the reason why the Soviet army opened the two sides instead of blocking it...It would be very easy for the Soviet army to block it. It would be enough to air-drop a large number of mines and then deploy troops on the commanding heights a little further on both sides.
Although there is no way to seal us in this way...the reason is that the Xigeo Valley is more than fifty kilometers long and the terrain is quite complex. In addition, the guerrillas are familiar with the terrain...so they want to completely seal us in it.
It's impossible!
But... doing this can at least cause considerable casualties to our main force, and at the same time, it can also add another layer of pressure to us!
Why didn't the Soviet army do this?
In fact, not doing this is a smarter approach... because this is what I said before, "surrounding three and fighting one"... giving us a way out, so there will be no stubborn resistance of "trapped beasts fighting"!
I am the one who feels this the most... There is indeed less pressure from the Soviet Union, but there is much more internal pressure:
Some guerrillas have questioned...The Soviet attack is so fierce this time, and we have no good way to stop the Soviet offensive, so why not spread out to the mountains to fight guerrillas? Guerrilla warfare is the Afghan guerrillas.
Isn't that the advantage? The Afghan guerrillas are familiar with the terrain, aren't they? As for the Chigeo Valley... we can wait for the Soviet army to pass the limelight before fighting back!
I have to admit that this idea does have some truth... But if we really do this, we will fall into the Soviet army's trick... No matter how fast we move, can we be faster than the Soviet helicopter? Then we will
Dispersed like this... All the Soviet army needs to consider is who to destroy first, and who to destroy next! In the end, some guerrillas may be able to escape... But they are already severely injured and have no ability to attack the Soviet Union anymore.
What threat does the military pose?
From this aspect...the Soviet army's "encirclement three and one enemy" tactic has worked, because it has actually dealt a blow to the morale and unity of our troops, and of course it has also had a certain degree of blow to the determination to resist.
It’s just that it hasn’t shown up yet!
At this time, our usual role in educating the grassroots commanders in Afghanistan is reflected... During normal classes, we taught those commanders the tactic of "encircling three and attacking one". We even used it when I was in Vietnam.
The battlefield and the previous battles with the besieged Soviet troops in the Chigeo Valley will be explained...
So now that the Soviet army uses this tactic...the grassroots cadres quickly understand...this is a trick used by the Soviet army. The purpose is to cause us to have internal disagreements and lose our determination to resist!
Then grassroots cadres will use their ideas to influence their subordinates... Don't underestimate this influence. This influence is one-sided, and it does not come from one person's mouth... If it is just
When I say it, quite a few guerrillas will feel that...this is just a lie I told to stabilize the morale of the army!
But it’s different now... The vast majority of grassroots cadres say this, and these grassroots cadres are all Afghans... One person may lie to them, but it’s impossible for so many people to work together to lie to them! More
What's more, many of these people are company commanders, platoon commanders, etc. who have lived and died with them and have won their trust!
As a result, the morale of the military quickly stabilized... The guerrillas either understood what was going on, or even if they didn't, they were willing to believe what they said because they trusted the grassroots officers!
This is why all the troops attach great importance to the training of grassroots cadres... Grassroots cadres usually seem to have little authority, and they are allowed to be ordered around by others to do whatever they want... But when it comes to the critical moment
At all times, they are the link between senior officers and soldiers, and they are the determining factor that affects morale or the direction of the military!
I am very lucky to be able to do this, that is, to firmly control the grassroots officers in my hands... This kind of control is not the actual control, but the kind of control that people's hearts aspire to, such as Apqiu, such as
Aled, such as Wadud, etc... They are the kind of grassroots officers who I believe will stand firmly on my side and support us no matter what happens. It is through them that I control the entire guerrilla group.
A powerful force!
This is the result of my education and reform in the Cigeo Valley during this period...Although we encountered a little trouble during the reform process, after this trouble...it created a team in the Cigeo Valley that is different from any other
A guerrilla force that is different from the other!
I think this is one of the reasons why the Soviet army had to eliminate us quickly!
