159. Cornfield Stalking

Wintersweet is preparing to leave the cornfield and enter the mine.

In the blink of an eye, I thought, what if Sister Haitang would do this herself? What would she think and do?

What if that figure was in the mine just now? I still don’t know why he came here, and I’m not sure if it’s the same person who came last time.

When she thought of this, Lamei lost the impulse she had just now, and thought it would be safer to stay here and keep an eye on him for a while, or maybe she was suspicious, and the figure didn't come to the mine at all.

Either he went in, and he would come out sooner or later. If he stayed at this exit, he would definitely be able to wait until he did.

This is the wisest approach Lamei has learned from following Sister Haitang for so long.

I patiently squatted here for half an hour, my thighs were numb from squatting, and I staggered a few times when I stood up. Only then did some people emerge from inside.

Dusk was rising, and the place was even more misty. Wintersweet couldn't see very clearly, but he could only see the man looking around. His movements and expression clearly looked like a thief.

It's inappropriate to call him "catching a thief" in the past. This mine doesn't belong to anyone. It's something from the mountain. It's not considered stealing. Moreover, he doesn't have anything in his hand. How can he say he stole it?

When the man slowly walked into the mist, Wintersweet followed him on tiptoe, not daring to get too close for fear of being discovered, so she never saw what the man looked like or who he was.

Gradually the man walked out of the mist on the mountain and came to the village. Wintersweet could see clearly now that the old man was walking towards the yard of the stingy old rich man!

And that limping look makes him look like an old rich man!

Old guy, sneaky and up to no good.

Lamei went back and told Bai Haitang truthfully what she saw.

"Let's go to the mine and have a look." Haitang said.

"But your back... you should rest at home." Lamei said worriedly.

"I don't have to carry it on my back. Let's walk quickly. If he notices the mine, we might not be able to dye cloth in the future. It's time to add some things at home." Haitang and Wintersweet carried baskets and put a few pieces in them.

The cloth used to wrap things went to the mine.

Walking to the edge of the mine, Bai Haitang carefully looked at the shoe prints on the ashes of the vegetation. A pair of shoe prints were similar to the feet he saw last time. From this, it seemed that the person who came last time was also an old rich man.

What is he doing here?

Bai Begonia and Wintersweet went into the hole around the ashes of the vegetation.

Walking to the very back, there was a broken wooden box. Next to the box was a shovel. Next to the shovel were piles of ores and raw materials. It was obvious that someone was digging the wall and the ground with the shovel!

I don't know what the other party was looking for, but they accidentally smashed the mineral raw materials that Bai Haitang regarded as a treasure!

Haitang felt distressed and sorted the crushed raw materials into cloth bags and put them back in the basket.

When I opened the wooden box, it was empty.

"Sister Haitang, why did that bad old man come here to dig? Is he afraid that his concubine will steal his coins, so he came here to hide them?" Lamei asked innocently.

"If I hid it here, I wouldn't have put the box and shovel here, and I wouldn't have filled back what I dug out. What's more, how could such a stingy person see that the copper plate was not under his nose, but on the mountain?"

Haitang said.

Haitang analyzed it before and after. The old rich man saw that there was light here at night and others thought there was a female ghost that cannibalize people. He might have the courage to test it out. Where there are female ghosts, there might be treasures. This is in line with his greedy nature.
