Chapter 16 Air Combat

Finding "Zero War" is not difficult. Yingjiang only needs to send a few "Wildcats" into the Japs' combat radius on Wake Island to search... The Japs had just taken over Wake Island, and they were worried that Yingjiang would lose a firm foothold on Wake Island.

A sneak attack even took Wake Island back, so while building Wake Island, "Zero War" was continuously dispatched to patrol the surrounding waters.

This is another benefit of the ultra-long range of the "Zero War": a long range means a long time in the air... If the "Zero War" can reach more than 3,000 kilometers with an auxiliary fuel tank, its maximum speed is 530 kilometers, and the time in the air will be long.

It lasted six terrifying hours.

This eliminates the need for frequent return flights for refueling and improves patrol efficiency.

Of course, this also requires the pilot's physical strength and willpower...Flying for six hours continuously is torture for the pilot.

What Yingjiang has to do is search for these "zero fighters" patrolling the periphery of Wake Island.

The Enterprise took off six fighter planes and divided them into three groups to fly in three directions to search. Major Logan was one of the groups flying to the southwest waters of Wake Island.

Logan's wingman was piloted by a young man named Jason. Before joining the army, he flew agricultural aircraft to spray pesticides, hence his nickname "Pesticide".

Logan didn't think Jason was a good pilot.

Logan guessed that this might have something to do with Jason's experience of flying agricultural airplanes... Doing the same job every day, he became numb after a few years, which directly caused him to not react quickly enough, which was fatal on the battlefield.

.

Logan looked at the sky and saw some thin clouds.

This does not seem to be a good thing, because it will affect the sight of the enemy aircraft and close combat... Then I am afraid that I will be shot down before I can react, let alone confirm the "uncertainty".

Logan glanced at the photo stuck next to him... Others usually carry photos of their wives with them, but Logan brought photos of his daughter.

He has only one wish, hoping to watch his daughter grow up.

If it was for this wish, he just had to continue flying like this.

but……

Logan gritted his teeth and said to Jason on the radio: "Pesticide, we have to change direction and fly eastward!"

"Why?" Jason asked.

"The enemy is used to patrolling clockwise around the island!" Logan explained: "If we search clockwise in the same way, we will probably never meet each other, do you understand?"

"That's right!" Jason responded excitedly: "I should have thought of it a long time ago!"

Then Jason said "yo ho": "Come on, you bastards!"

This is another thing Logan doesn't like about Jason.

Logan believes that as a pilot, you should remain calm at all times. It is best to face the upcoming war with a normal mind. Being too fearful and too excited is not a good thing.

Logan was very cautious along the way. He sometimes climbed above the clouds and sometimes flew upside down... These seemingly random movements were actually Logan observing different heights and directions. His eyes were like radars searching for everyone.

A location where enemy aircraft may appear.

Then, Logan suddenly shouted: "Climb, pesticide! Climb now!"

"Enemy plane found?" Jason was a little surprised. He found nothing.

"Yes!" Logan replied: "There are two Zero Fighters at three o'clock. They don't seem to have noticed us! It won't be certain later!"

Jason was a little frustrated. He was almost taken away by the major. If he hadn't been flying with the major, he might have plunged into the arms of the enemy plane at this moment.

After a while, Jason found two less obvious small dots in the direction indicated by the major.

Jason's heart trembled. It was "Zero War". Yes, he had seen it in the photo countless times. Jason even dreamed of shooting down such a plane as his first achievement.

By this time, "Zero War" had discovered them and climbed up with them.

Logan was surprised. The "Zero War" climbed much faster than the "Wildcat", which allowed the enemy to surpass their height and fly above them in no time.

"This is not a good thing!" Logan said to himself.

Because if this situation is maintained, when the enemy and the enemy meet, it will be a "zero battle" dive while the "Wildcat" will be in a climbing state.

Obviously "zero war" will have more advantages.

Logan remembered what Halsey said before departure: "Gentlemen! According to this assumption, we should first maintain our altitude, because only with altitude can we have enough space to dive. Once we have the altitude, once our tail is bitten by an enemy plane, we will

Use a dive to escape, do you understand?"

Is the current altitude high enough for a dive?

Logan looked at the meter. Six thousand meters might be enough!

But what is a high enough height to throw away the enemy?

Logan didn't know. He didn't even know if the dive could get rid of the enemy plane.

These all need to be "confirmed" by him.

But Logan knew one thing, it would definitely not work if he continued like this. By then, all the fighter planes would be shot down by the enemy and would not have a chance to dive.

Thinking of this, Logan ordered: "Turn, Jason, turn!"

As he spoke, Logan turned the nose of the plane to the side...

Jason was startled and shouted "Major!" before following him.

No wonder Jason was hesitant. He thought Logan had made a stupid mistake that even a "rookie" like him would not make:

The enemy aircraft is faster than our aircraft. The "Zero" fighter has a speed of 533 per hour and the "Wildcat" fighter has a speed of 512 per hour.

When the enemy and our fighter planes are flying towards each other, turn sideways. If you are fast, you can escape from the battle, but if you are slow... you will expose your tail to the enemy, so you will not even have the chance to fight to the death.

But Jason turned around anyway.

Logan added: "Stop talking nonsense and listen to my orders!"

"Yes, Major!" Jason responded, hoping he was wrong.

But the battle situation was just as Jason imagined. Seeing the "Wildcat" fighter plane turn, the two Zero Fighters stopped climbing and pursued them from behind.

The Japanese pilots flying these two planes even laughed loudly: "Are you afraid of being like this? You choose to escape regardless of the situation!"

Logan's movements did seem like he was running away.

However, in the face of the speed, range and maneuverability of the "Zero War", the "Wildcat" is like a clumsy panda, and it is almost impossible to escape.

The Japanese pilot seemed to have seen the moment when the two "Wildcats" were beaten to pieces.

At this time, the "wild cats" made another incredible move. They turned around and then started to climb again...

As we all know, the climbing performance of the "Zero War" is better than that of the "Wildcat". If you do this, you just feel that you are not dying fast enough.

As a result, the distance between the enemy and ourselves quickly narrowed.

Getting closer, getting closer...

Just when the Japanese pilot was about to fire the bullet, Major Logan shouted: "Dive, dive now!"

As he spoke, Logan drove the "Wildcat" through a beautiful arc in the air, and the fighter jet quickly changed from climbing to diving at high speed.
