041 Barricade

A-220 Commercial Street is lined with two rows of ten to twenty-story high-rise buildings. From the dilapidated billboards, it can be seen that the main business scope of the stores on the first floor of these high-rise buildings include restaurants, high-end bars, clothing, etc.

Then there are banks and hotels.

The street is about sixty feet wide and paved with marble-cut tiles. Paralyzed cleaning robots and overturned garbage trucks can be seen everywhere on both sides of the road.

This north-south commercial street has safe passages to other commercial streets every few hundred yards. All the streets in this commercial district are actually connected. The entire commercial district is laid out in rows.

It is composed of regular high-rise buildings, and between every two rows of buildings is a commercial street.

Relatively speaking, the distance between each commercial street and the adjacent one is only one building, and it is just a matter of walking from the front door of a bar to the back door.

The two squads in front went straight across the first safe passage to the east, but since the various shops and passages on both sides might contain Camorian soldiers, Augustus glanced at them as he passed by as a habit.

Then he immediately stopped, raised the Gauss rifle in his hand, pointed it at the passage that was dim due to the lack of light and sunlight, and turned on the power armor and the searchlight mounted on the rifle.

"Stop!"

Although Benjamin Renault and others behind him were puzzled, they immediately followed suit. However, when everyone else stopped and stood firm, only Omo behind Benjamin failed to stop and bumped into Benjamin's head.

Behind him, there was a clanging sound.

"You idiot!" Benjamin turned around and glared.

"This kid is just a little slow to react. He has been like this since he was a child." Renault walked up and helped Omo stand firm.

Renault and others then followed Augustus into the safe passage. Due to the night vision function of the HUD display on the mask and the light of the searchlight, the Marines' vision was not limited by the dim light.

Although this was unusual, as they saw, six marines were standing steadily in the middle of the safe passage. When they saw Augustus and others coming, they did not speak, but turned around and looked.

He seemed to have lost his soul.

"The bottom of the Virgin Mary's skirt." Benjamin sighed: "There is a group of deserters here."

"How about we hide here?" Josephine said in surprise.

"Who is your commander?" Augustus observed these marines and found that they did not have the wolf head insignia of the 33rd Ground Assault Division on their shoulders and breastplates. This was exactly what he had observed before.

There is an appearance difference between social soldiers and ordinary soldiers.

Combined with the current situation, Augustus seems to have understood something. This is probably a group of resocialized soldiers without command. Without instructions, they stay in place like robots in a standby state.

.

"I am Sergeant Augustus Mengsk. You can confirm this identity in the ID search bar in the mecha's built-in computer."

As he spoke, Augustus lowered his mask so that the marines could see his face clearly.

One of the Marines stared at Augustus's face for a few seconds and made a beautiful and perfectly compliant military salute before saying through the helmet's external speaker: "Reporting to the commander, our

The commander is Lieutenant Gennard."

"Where is Lieutenant Genard?" Augustus asked.

"He...he died." The Marine hesitated, as if such a thing went against his basic understanding.

"So, now that they have lost their commander, should soldiers in society obey the command of the only officer they have?" Augustus calmly induced the Marine to do what he wanted.

answer.

"This..." The Marine hesitated. He thought for at least ten seconds, causing the impatient Hanak behind Augustus to mutter impatiently.

"Yes, sir, the second squadron of the first company of the 312th Battalion requests your command!"

"Very well, your name, rank, and position." Augustus smiled.

"Report to the commander, answer the question. Ryder, Private First Class." The Marine said immediately.

"Private Druch, I order you to lead the second squadron of the first company to follow me and be ready to obey my next order at any time."

"Yes, sir!" The Marines made a military salute together.

"Let's go." Augustus waved his hand and led the astonished Renault and others out of the safe passage.

Augustus' squad continued to advance along the commercial street, and they soon caught up with the two squads in front. This was not because Augustus was eager to catch up with the people in front, but purely because of the troops in front.

I ran into a barricade blocking the entire street and was unable to move forward.

In the same haphazardly patchwork style as Camorion, the barricade was constructed from two double-decker buses, concrete blocks and other scraps that blocked the narrow street.

.

The lights of the two buses were still on and their engines were humming. It seemed that the barricade had just been set up within a few hours of the federal army's invasion of the city of Pork Pride.

There were about ten Kaimorian soldiers hiding behind the barricades and firing at the federal army. Most of them were ordinary labor auxiliaries. The electromagnetic guns in their hands were not as powerful as the federal E-series and C-series electromagnetic rifles, but some Kaimorians

Ryan soldier holds grenade launcher and RPG rocket launcher in hands.

When Augustus saw a charging Marine, he was hit by a grenade and his entire calf was blown off. He fell to the ground and rolled in pain. The two squads in front were suppressed by fierce fire and could not move.

They could only retreat after leaving a few corpses and a wounded man wailing for help.

Then, about six hundred yards from the barricade, Augustus came face to face with the two retreating squads.

"You came just in time." The squad leader of one of the squads breathed a sigh of relief after seeing Augustus. He pointed to the barricade in front and said, "I am Corporal Hoppe. Maybe we can take it down together."

"I think there is no need to make greater sacrifices." Augustus looked forward, and the rangefinder built into the armor was calculating the distance between him and the barricade: "This kind of defensive position is meaningless at all, because the whole street is

Connected.”

"And since this road is impassable, we can take another street, such as A-219 on the left and A-221 Commercial Street on the right."

Hope was speechless for a moment.

"What you said...makes sense." Hope thought for two seconds: "But what about those Camorians?"

Although he did not know Augustus personally, the corporal somehow felt that he must have the answer to this question.

"This is my plan." Augustus said: "You and your men will conduct a feint attack from the front, while my squad will go around to attack from behind."

"How to feint? We have already killed many people." asked the corporal.

"You just need to show your face a few hundred yards away and keep firing to attract their attention." Augustus said, "Do you have any more questions?"

Hope shrugged: "You have the final say, sir."

Since there are no rank markings on the armor of the Federal Marines, and there are a few resocialized soldiers among the people brought by Augustus, it can be seen at a glance that there are many more than a full squad, plus the other party's

The momentum and confident tone really shocked him, so he took it for granted that Augustus was a lieutenant.

"I am also a corporal like you," Augustus said.

Renault, Harnack and others sneered in the communication channel.

After Augustus finished speaking, he led the class and resocialized soldiers into a nearby department store, passed through the front hall and entered A-221 Commercial Street from the other side of the building.
