Chapter 984

Gubeikou, the pass fortress between Shanhaiguan and Juyongguan, is the throat from the Liaodong Plain and Inner Mongolia to the Central Plains. It has always been a battleground for military strategists, and countless battles, large and small, have taken place here since ancient times.

In the eleventh year of Hongwu in the early Ming Dynasty, the Ming court built additional gate facilities such as Guancheng, large and small passes, and beacon towers at Gubeikou. It also built two additional gates, one at the Great Wall and the other at the Great Wall pass, which was called "Iron Gate".

"Shuimen Pass" can only allow one ride and one car to pass; one gate is located on the Chaohe River and is called "Shuimen Pass". In the first year of Longqing (1567), Qi Jiguang and Tan Lun began to inspect the Great Wall from Shanhaiguan to Juyongguan (see Juyongguan and Yuntai).

After large-scale reconstruction, the Gubeikou Great Wall was built and became one of the important passways of the Ming Dynasty.

However, to this day, the copper and iron walls of the Ming Dynasty are like paper, easily broken by a poke. When Dorgon entered the pass, he defeated the guards at the pass with almost no effort, and then rushed into the pass and burned them all.

, and then invaded the Ming Realm on a large scale.

Dorgon was forced by the Ming army last night and left his last two thousand war horses in Miyun. Then he went into the mountains at night and marched towards Gubeikou under the stars and moon. At dawn, he finally arrived at the gate of Gubeikou.

The pass looked desolate, with overgrown weeds burying the previous traces of gunpowder smoke. Dorgon ordered his troops to rest on the hillside of the pass, but he climbed the Great Wall with great interest.

A few months ago, the Gubeikou where his army arrived was destroyed. The Ming court had not had time to repair it, and there were no soldiers and horses stationed there. Therefore, Dorgon was very relieved and took only a dozen of his own soldiers to the Guancheng and walked along the Great Wall.

Look inside and outside the Great Wall to appreciate the magnificent rivers and mountains of the Ming Dynasty!

"That is Tiger Mountain, the highest peak at Gubeikou, and that one above is Wangjing Tower." At three o'clock in the morning, Dorgon had already arrived at Jinshan Ridge, pointed due east in the distance and said to the soldiers around him. He had traveled to the Ming Dynasty more than ten times, and visited various border fortresses.

None of them are unfamiliar.

"Your Majesty, why don't we go up high and take a long view? After all, this opportunity is very rare," the soldier encouraged. Dorgon was also a little moved. Wangjing Tower is the highest point in Gubeikou. As the name suggests, you can see the capital from a distance. I have heard about Wangjing Tower for a long time.

The location is extremely precipitous, with cliffs on both sides of the building. People can only climb along the cracks in the rocks. It is said that Qi Jiguang spent a lot of effort when he supervised the construction.

Forget it, Dorgon shook his head with a bitter look on his face. Although he had the intention at this time, he had no time to do so. After all, when he broke camp and entered the mountain last night, he actually heard that the Ming army had followed him into the mountain. At that time, the generals under his command were surprised and thought that the Ming army was going to attack.

Taking the opportunity to steal a chicken?

Later, when I thought about the time in Shunyi, the nearly 100,000 Ming army had no chance to attack them from behind. There was no need to fight with them in the deep mountains and old forests. It was most likely that they were just watching them come out of the border, which gave me some peace of mind.

But the Ming army was so close, and if he was allowed to leisurely climb up here and look far into the distance, wouldn't it be a slap in the face of the young eunuch? Who knows what impulsive things he could do if he offended the young eunuch.

After walking around for a while and returning to Gubeikou, although the Qing army's physical strength had not recovered, Dorgon still ordered the soldiers and horses to leave the pass. If you go out early, you will be relieved. After you leave the pass, you can rest assured.

The Qing army divided its troops and exited the pass at the same time from Tiemenguan and Shuimenguan. Dorgon stood on the wall at the pass in a daze until the soldiers around him reminded him, and then he looked inside the pass. There were crowds of people under the shade of lush trees in the valley ten miles away.

I knew that the Ming army was coming, and it was estimated that there were thousands of people.

What a big gift, delivered to the doorstep! Dorgon curled his lips and looked away.

At noon, all the Qing troops had left the border and were marching slowly eastward along the valley outside the Great Wall. At this time, Chang Yu had already climbed onto the Gubeikou Great Wall. Looking at its tracks from a distance, his face showed a cold expression: "It's easy to leave, but I won't see you off."

"Lord Governor, is this the end?" Hao Yaoqi was very puzzled. He was so excited that he and Lu Xing and others led five thousand soldiers and ran all night on the mountain road to catch up to the pass. He thought he could still stab him.

The result is just watching people leave, this...

Not only Hao Yaoqi, but also Wang Yongji and Yang E looked stunned and confused. They really came to see off guests!

"I know you are eager to make contributions, but today it is not the governor who has the final say. It depends on whether God will reward you." Chang Yu chuckled, and Hao Yaoqi couldn't understand it anymore. He scratched his head vigorously and asked, "Master Governor, can you

Make it clearer."

Chang Yu turned his head and looked at the Qing army in the valley to the east: "If Dorgon comes back, just stab him, and you will be successful. If he doesn't come back, then you should go on an outing with the governor."

"Will Dorgon come back?" Hao Yongzhong, Wang Yongji and others were shocked.

Chang Yu raised his hand and pointed to the sky to see God's face.

The sun was at its peak at noon, and even though the mountain breeze was cool, people were scorched outside and inside. The Ming army was already exhausted after chasing the enemy for dozens of miles all night long, so they looked for shade at the pass to rest and make fires to cook. But the little eunuch was not afraid.

The scorching sun was beating down on the Great Wall at Guan Guan. Wang Yongji, the governor of Jiliao, and Yang E were with us. They were hot and tired, but they didn't dare to complain.

The thousand-year-old fortress, despite the lush vegetation in the mountains in summer, still looks extremely desolate to the eye. The sound of fighting and iron horses is still in his ears. Chang Yu jumped up on the wall and looked at the overlapping mountains and rivers outside the pass, and his heart was full of pride.

: "How can this great river and mountains be allowed to be invaded by the Di Yirong barbarians?" He raised his hand and pointed at the Qing army in the northeastern valley: "Dorgon, I hope this will make you remember."

Dorgon in the valley didn't know what kind of memory the little eunuch gave him. He didn't even know that the little eunuch was at the gate, but he could see many Ming troops on Gubeikou Pass watching from a distance.

The weather was too hot and the soldiers and horses were too tired. At this time, the soldiers finally felt relieved. Then Dorgon ordered them to rest on the spot in the valley. The soldiers looked around for a shady place to rest, eat dry food or sleep soundly.

They also found a mountain spring, which made the soldiers excited and gathered around to drink water and wash themselves, which was quite pleasant.

"We should hurry up before dark. These dozens of miles are full of rugged mountain roads. Let's go out early and relax." Under a protruding rock in the valley, Duduo drank a few mouthfuls of spring water and looked at the soldiers in the valley.

His brows were furrowed.

"The soldiers and horses are too tired. Haste makes waste. Only when the soldiers have rested enough can they have the strength to move forward. Otherwise, limping along in this state will be really laborious and time-consuming." Dorgon exhaled and stuck his head out to look at the ancient times.

Beikou Pass.

"Why, you are more than ten miles away and you are still worried about the gelding chasing after you?" Duduo couldn't help but let out a laugh when he saw it. Duduo smiled bitterly and said nothing, and fell to the ground with his eyes closed to relax.

Duduo stopped talking and drank some water and fell asleep. Not far away, Shang Kexi and other generals gathered around and chatted quietly, looking at Gubeikou with complicated eyes.

The Qing army was resting in the valley, and the Ming army at the pass was also sound asleep. Chang Yu, who was full of energy, was wandering around the pass, strolling around the gate, barracks, and outposts. Although he was burned down by the Qing army a few days ago,

, but the stone buildings are only slightly damaged and can be reused with only minor repairs.

"Governor Wang, once this battle is over, the court will definitely reward you and hold you accountable. As the governor of Jiliao, you were easily broken into by the Tatars. You can't escape the blame. But you have thought about how to meet the wrath. I'm afraid it will be

The governor of Jiliao must be removed from office."

In an observation post on the Great Wall, Chang Yu and his group were enjoying the cool air and chatting. A casual remark made Wang Yongji break into a cold sweat. He quickly raised his hands and said, "I hope the factory supervisor can show me the way."

Chang Yu chuckled and raised his hand to point outside the Great Wall: "Governor Wang, look at how difficult it is to navigate this mountainous road!"

"Mr. Factory Supervisor..." Wang Yongji lowered his head and sighed: "I'm an official, I'm an official..." He was speechless for a while.

"If you had meritorious deeds in war, you might be able to atone for your deeds, but you missed the opportunity. I'm afraid that under the emperor's wrath this time, you will not be able to escape the death penalty and you will not be able to escape!" Chang Yu shook his head gently: "The way, I can give you the chance.

You point out, but this Governor Ji Liao’s black gauze hat cannot be saved.”

Hey, Wang Yongji breathed a sigh of relief and said with a bitter look on his face: "To be honest, Governor Ji Liao's black gauze hat is too big and too hot. I can't bear it. If you want to take it off, just take it off. I only hope that the Governor will take it off."

Can you show me a way out?"
