Chapter 8 The Cracked Mirror

What appeared in front of Russell was still the rows of floor-length mirrors that were so familiar to him.

But at this moment, they seem to have lost those special abilities...

When Russell looked over, Bluebird or Morgan could no longer be seen from inside.

No matter which mirror Russell walked to, he could only see himself in the mirror, as if they had become ordinary mirrors.

"……container?"

While walking around, Russell tentatively called out to his demon: "Vessel of God?"

But he didn't get any response. His voice echoed repeatedly in the temple.

Russell seemed to be the only one left in the empty temple.

He was like a lonely prisoner, trapped in his own spiritual world.

Looking up, there is no one to communicate with.

A sudden fear from the heart suddenly seized Russell's heart.

To describe it, it's like that classic joke...

"Brothers, I will take the college entrance examination tomorrow, can you help me a little bit?"

"Isn't the college entrance examination today?"

The fear welling up in Russell's heart was probably of that level.

He couldn't help but speed up his pace a little, until he reached the end of the church.

This place is no longer an endless loop of mirror galleries composed of countless mirrors... but seems to have become a real temple.

Those mirrors that I still can't touch have become few and far between.

There are ten mirrors in total, and the red curtains on five of them have been lifted.

Russell also took off the curtains covering the remaining five mirrors.

Those mirrors did not reflect any virtual images.

No Bluebird, no Alice.

No detective, no Morgan...

Only Russell.

Only Russell himself.

He reached out and tentatively pressed the mirror, but felt nothing.

Russell in the mirror also stretched out his hand simultaneously, with fear in his eyes that Russell could tell at a glance.

There was an unexplained chill that penetrated the heart and spleen, making Russell's fingertips uncontrollably tremble.

Waves of cold current flowed from his spine throughout his body... just like drinking ice in winter.

"...Why am I so scared?"

Russell murmured in a low voice: "What am I afraid of?"

He stared closely at himself in the mirror, trying to synchronize and analyze his psychology.

So, he soon realized what "Russell" was afraid of

He is afraid that he will not be able to reach other people...

He is afraid of falling into absolute loneliness, he is afraid of being alone.

What he fears is that he will become a mirror with a curtain.

An unfounded rage made Russell's body suddenly tremble.

He didn't even know why he was suddenly angry... Everything was so chaotic and ethereal, with broken logic and confusion.

Just like in a dream.

……etc.

In a dream...

Am I dreaming now?

Russell had this thought in his mind.

But as soon as this idea surfaced, it disappeared without a trace. Russell completely forgot about it and lost all traces of it.

Immediately afterwards, an even stronger rage poured into his mind.

Russell suddenly punched the mirror in front of him!

There was only a bang, and the mirror suddenly broke!

Russell's hand was not injured, and he didn't even feel much pain. The mirror in front of him was evenly cracked, as if it was covered in spider webs.

Russell's face was reflected on every fragment of the mirror.

Some are angry, some are smiling, some are sad, some are sad...

The surrounding church seemed to disappear in an instant.

Countless memory fragments turned into by the broken mirror were spinning in front of Russell.

Russell looked at one of them subconsciously.

The strong smell of alcohol poured out of his mouth

He was just stunned and appeared in front of his mentor.

He is sitting on the tutor's bed.

Russell, who had just vomited due to drunkenness, was holding the juice with trembling hands and stared blankly at Sally Ruth sitting by the bed.

"Drink quickly."

The elf woman with peerless appearance sat next to him with her legs crossed.

She was wearing a gorgeous crimson dress, covered with precious jewelry, and her long golden hair was naturally spread like the most beautiful satin, sparkling under the warm light in the room.

His mentor, Sally Ruth, has a beauty that can drive people crazy.

There is always a mysterious expression on her face that is half-smiling but not smiling, and she is always willing to refuse invitations but still welcome them.

I don’t know how many people envied Russell for being Sally Ruth’s apprentice.

But in the drunken Russell's eyes... he seemed to see his mentor's mouth full of sharp fangs.

Her golden hair was like some kind of slender worm, squirming slowly under the warm light.

"Drink it...this is a special medicine for sobering up."

Sally Ruth whispered softly.

Russell held the orange juice mixed with sober medicine in his hand blankly, motionless.

When Sally Ruth approached Russell, his body couldn't help but tremble.

Sally Ruth took the cup in his hand, drank half a sip, and held it in her mouth... With Russell's somewhat frightened eyes, she fed the medicine into Russell's mouth.

After just two sips, Russell's hallucinations and drunkenness quickly subsided.

"No, no, I'm already awake...I'm sober..."

Russell was a little embarrassed and shy to push Sally Ruth back: "I just vomited...my mouth was very dirty..."

"That's just stomach acid."

When Sally Ruth heard this, she smiled slightly and swallowed the sobriety medicine in her mouth.

Then, she stuck out her tongue towards Russell to indicate that there was no more juice in her mouth.

"The poison won't kill you."

She said angrily and patted Russell on the head: "What are you afraid of?

"Are you still afraid that your mentor will harm you?"

"sorry……"

Russell was a little confused and muttered in a low voice.

The next moment, the brief memory ends.

That was a memory fragment that left a deep impression on Russell and made him unforgettable.

It was at this moment that Russell suddenly realized why he felt inexplicably familiar with this scene.

In other words, where did he see this scene?

Every time Russell met the other person's eyes before getting a new mask... he would hear a similar "mirror cracking" sound.

So at this moment, this is...

"...is it my mirror?"

Russell murmured softly.

The moment Russell realized this, countless dense spider web cracks started from the hand hammering the mirror and began to spread rapidly.

Along with the sound of Kaka's ice cracking, those cracks appeared on his body surface.

Russell looked at his hands, then his arms, then his shoulders, then his chest...

Through the cracked skin like ice, he saw that the inside of his body was nothingness.

It was a large rotating mass of darkness like a nebula.

Like the head of the "Vessel of God".

The material that made up its head was filled with large amounts inside "Russell"... and it was more intense and darker.

"Is this...me?"

Russell uttered almost floating murmurs as if in a dream.

His voice gradually became filled with overlapping echoes: "What is this...?"

Like the demonized little glass, the accents gradually overlap.

On top of Russell's voice, the barber's voice began to be superimposed.

Those broken lenses spinning and flying in front of him, part of them turned into the memories of Lan Geyu and Xiao Liuli.

These are memories previously received by Russell.

I don't know when, they already existed in Russell's heart.

But after obtaining Blue Bird's mask and psychic power, Russell never looked back at them... In other words, Russell never discovered that there were some deeper memories that he had received but had never opened.

It's like picking up a character in a mobile game but never looking at the profile or skill description.

"The crack marks on my body...are similar to those of Xiao Liuli..."

Russell's heart suddenly moved, and he looked at the memory fragments that he had not seen yet.

Maybe they can give themselves some answers.

As he thought this, the black gaseous substance like a nebula gradually seeped out from the cracks in his body, condensed and turned into black tentacles, and slowly touched the largest fragment of memory.
