Chapter 69 Receiving Gifts

For children, the greatest joy of Christmas is listening to the gossip of their elders and opening gifts.

It was close to noon that day. After getting up, Charles had a hasty breakfast, sat on the carpet in the living room and began to open the Christmas gifts that had been delivered in the past few days.

He suddenly saw that there was an older-looking cloth bag in the gift pile than yesterday. He opened it first out of curiosity, and he immediately lost his composure.

Jack was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper and said calmly: "Santa Claus delivered it last night, but you didn't wake up. He was very disappointed."

Charles heard the old man say that Dumbledore, who was specially dressed as Santa Claus, called him for five minutes last night, but he couldn't get up and regretted it to death.

He stayed up all night at St. Mungo's Hospital the night before. Last night he and his old man had a meal of dumplings ordered from a Chinese restaurant and then went to bed early. Unexpectedly, he was so sleepy that he missed Dumbledore's performance as Santa Claus.<

Supposedly, the local people eat turkey on Christmas Eve, but Charles felt that this thing was too unpalatable, the meat was very woody, and the soup was not good, so he ate dumplings instead.

Charles carefully looked through the gift from Dumbledore, which was his transfiguration notes from his student days. It has extremely high academic value and collection value.

After turning a few pages, he suddenly sighed.

Jack asked him curiously: "What, you are not satisfied? Don't expect anything from me, I am not good at teaching and educating people."

Charles shook his head and said: "No, I am not satisfied with the entire wizarding community. It has been almost a hundred years, and the development of magical knowledge has been too slow in the past hundred years."

Jack put down the newspaper and said to him seriously: "Demand, demand is the driving force for progress. If there is no demand, if you want to reform the existing magic system, even if it is correct, you will not succeed in the end."

After hearing this, Charles just nodded silently. The old man was right. As long as the old method can solve the current problem, most people will not try new methods until they come to an end.

The fundamental reason for the current situation is that the population base of wizards is too small. Although it is many times larger than in Charles' "memory", the per capita resources in this closed group are still very high. There is no pressure to survive, and naturally there is a lack of motivation for innovation.

.

Charles ignored the issues that these important people should consider and continued to open gifts.

In previous years, the gifts sent by the Dursleys were cakes and other snacks made by Petunia, but this year it was different.

This year the Dursleys gave me a SLR camera produced in the late 1970s. It was made in Germany. Although it was overstocked in the warehouse, it was packaged very well. The most important thing is that it is purely mechanical and can be used at Hogwarts.<

/p>

This camera is only a few years older than Charles, and it has no collection value yet. Compared to the old man’s salary for Penny as a housekeeper, it is not expensive.

However, this camera still lacks a flash. You need to go to Diagon Alley to get one that can be used at Hogwarts. You also need to buy film and a developing potion that can turn jpg into gif.

Charles's photography skills are only as good as "Poison University", so it's okay to take photos for fun.

He suddenly thought that Hermione might become a catgirl by the end of this year, and a strange smile appeared on his face.

Jack saw him like that and asked, "What are you thinking about? Going to Azkaban?"

Charles shook his head quickly, started to open the next item, and then exclaimed: "[British expletive]! I might really be going to Azkaban now!"

As he said that, he took the Christmas gift Voldemort gave him and showed it to the old man.

Jack took the notebook sent by Voldemort, with "Everyday Little Curses" written on the cover. He opened it and read it, shook his head and said, "They are all children's playful curses, they are useless."

"But it can be seen that he is careful. These curses are not very harmful, but they are extremely insulting... Huh?"

"Reveal quickly!"

The old man turned to the last page of the notebook and handed it to Charles: "Read it yourself."

After taking it, Charles found a magic spell on the originally blank last page. After reading it, he exclaimed: "It's actually 'separation of flesh and blood'. You don't have to worry about fish bones when eating fish in the future."

Jack glanced at him with a smile, then picked up the newspaper and continued reading. I believe this kid must know that this is a curse that can easily kill people.

"Ah!!!"

Charles' sudden cry startled Jack.

Jack put down the newspaper and asked him doubtfully: "What's wrong?"

Charles was holding up a football and shouted excitedly: "It's signed by Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard!"

When Jack saw that it was a football, he ignored him and just asked: "Who gave it to him?"

Charles replied with a silly smile: "It's Eleanor, I didn't expect she could get it!"

Jack looked at the newspaper and asked him: "This girl is nice to you."

Charles continued to giggle: "Hehe...it's okay."

Jack just said "be careful" and continued to read the newspaper.

Charles opened a box of candies given to him by Hermione, wondering if he wanted to eat bad teeth so that her father could make money. At the same time, he pretended to be casual and asked: "Grandpa, can you tell me about the Veela?"
Then he resisted the old man's murderous intent and said: "I don't want to ask about you and the Veela, I just want to know about them."

Jack sneered, then turned into a funny face: "Why, instead of a capitalist eldest sister, you want to replace a little sister with Veela blood?"

Charles, with a dark look on his face, pretended not to hear the old man's question and continued: "When I first met Gabrielle and Lady Angelina, I had a very strange feeling, as if I had seen them before."

Jack looked at the newspaper and said: "Different races have different strengths. Elves are good at making magic items. Centaurs are good at divination. Veela's charm of people's hearts is an attack on the soul. This talent brings them proficiency in souls."

."

"Different races have their own unique skills. Even those who are as strong as me, Dumbledore, Grindelwald and that socket can't be considered excellent in the fields they are good at."

"If the achievements that a person can achieve are expressed in numerical values, then it is the product of talent and hard work. The heights that those who are both talented and hardworking can achieve are beyond the reach of others."

Then he paused, put down the newspaper and said to Charles very seriously: "If you want to get together with Veela in the future, you must be careful. If you can't do what you promised, they will be very grudgey."

Charles nodded after hearing this: "It can be seen that after eighty years, I don't even know if you are still alive, and you haven't given up searching yet."

He waited for the old man's reaction and continued to talk as long as he was not beaten to death.

As a result, Jack put down the newspaper and turned on the TV, as if he was in the air.

Charles had no choice but to continue opening gifts.

Harry sent a large package of broomstick biscuits. The packaging looked like a new product launched by the Honeydukes Candy Shop in Hogsmeade this Christmas. These palm-long broomsticks can fly around the table by themselves and eat the shells.

Very crispy, with different flavors of fruit syrup inside.

At the same moment, in the Gryffindor dormitory at Hogwarts, Harry put down the invisibility cloak used by his father and opened the gift from Charles.

This gift is just an envelope with the words "Only you can read it."

Ron, who was sitting nearby, saw it and said curiously: "It would be great if Charles told us who Nico Flamel is."

After Harry opened the envelope, he sighed and said, "I don't think he will be free. He is often not at home during the holidays."

It turned out that there was another envelope inside the envelope, with the words "Do not let others know the contents inside" written on it.

Ron wisely returned to his bed and started eating candy. Charles gave him almost two kilograms of various candies.

He took out two pieces of liqueur chocolate from the bag, threw one of them to Harry, and hit it on the Tianling lid.

"What is that?" Ron couldn't help but become curious when he saw that he was holding a piece of Muggle white paper and looking at it very seriously.

Harry seemed to be addicted to it and had no reaction.

It took him almost half an hour to read the contents on the paper, and he said in surprise: "There is such magic!"
