A long time ago, Monk Shuku from Fumo Temple brought back a little baby. Here, he helped him complete his ordination and accepted him as his disciple, taking care of him like a father.
"Because it's high here."
Two people, one large and one small, were sitting on a stone bench on the edge of the cliff, looking into the distance. The wind in the mountain was very strong, and the thin little monk was sitting swaying next to his master.
The little monk has never gone down the mountain since he was taken up the mountain by his master. He follows his master every day to eat fast, chant Buddha's name and practice Qigong. He stayed here for five or six years until he was twelve years old. The little monk watched those people with long hair coming up from the mountain.
Gradually, I began to become curious about them.
"Master, what kind of place is that under the mountain?"
Ever since he became curious, the young monk has been full of curiosity about the foot of the mountain. He never dares to ask his master. Those senior brothers all have wooden fish heads. Apart from chanting sutras, chanting Buddha and knocking on wooden fish, they never tell him anything about the things at the foot of the mountain. Indifferently, this
It's also because I'm shy and don't like to ask people.
But one day, he finally plucked up the courage and asked about his master.
"Below the mountain, it's no different from the mountain. There are just more people and more ideas. If you want to take a look, you can go down the mountain and take a look yourself." Shuku said with a smile.
"Can I go down the mountain?"
"My teacher didn't say I wouldn't let you go down the mountain."
After hearing what the master said, the little monk touched his bald head and thought: It seems so. The master did not say not to let him go down the mountain.
"Then I'll go down the mountain and take a look tomorrow."
"Okay, but there are some places you can't go to for the time being." He said that the tree was dead and he mentioned those places in Hongchen Garden.
"Why?"
"Because you are still a little monk."
"Does that mean you can go if you become a great monk?"
Shuku didn't speak, he just looked at the distance of the mountain quietly. He was not that old at that time.
The next day, the little monk was going to see the world at the bottom of the mountain, but when he came to the top of the stairs, he retracted his steps again and stood for a long time without taking that step. Finally, he returned to the statue of Subduing the Demon and began to meditate again.
stand up.
Shuku saw all this but didn't say much.
For a long time after that, every time the young monk packed his things and wanted to go down the mountain, he could not take that step. It seemed that if he took that step, he would fall into the abyss and be shattered to pieces.
It was winter again, and the wind on the mountain was very strong. Xiao Heshan was still meditating on the edge of the cliff in his thin clothes, but he could not feel the cold. It seemed that there was a fire in his body that was warming him.
On this day, a benefactor came to the temple, a female benefactor, with red lips, white teeth and a smooth face, wearing a large white mink robe and a long knife at her waist.
The young monk had never seen a female donor before, and there were very few donors here. He didn't know why, but he was attracted immediately. The moment he saw her profile, his heart beat much faster.
He watched the female donor visit the small temple under the guidance of the master, and then the female donor watched quietly on the broken wall alone.
As if he noticed that someone was looking at him, he turned his head and saw the little monk meditating alone on the edge of the cliff. When the little monk saw that he was looking at him, he immediately turned his head away and missed his beautiful smile.
The little monk's heart was frightened by the man's sudden glance, and he quickly recited scriptures to calm the restlessness in his heart.
I don’t know how long it took, but a white figure appeared next to the little monk and said in a pleasant voice: "Little master, don’t you feel cold in so little clothing?"
The little monk, who had already calmed down, was disturbed by this voice. He did not dare to open his eyes and stammered: "No, it's not cold."
"Are you afraid of your sister?" the woman said, standing beside the young monk and looking into the distance.
"No, no, no."
"Then why don't you open your eyes and look at your sister to talk? Don't you think it's rude to talk to your sister like this?"
"Yes, I'm sorry, almsgiver, the young monk didn't mean that." The young monk stood up quickly and glanced at the female donor who was standing very close to him. He only glanced at her side face and then lowered his gaze.
, looking at her white robe.
"You're such an interesting little master," the woman said with a smile.
"Donor, you, did you come down from the mountain?" the little monk asked a very idiotic question.
"Hahaha, sister didn't come down from the mountain, did she come down from the sky?" The woman was amused by the young monk's words, and she felt much better instantly.
"Is there anyone living in Tianshan?" The young monk looked up at the sky.
The woman was stunned by the young monk's words, and then said with a smile: "Maybe, I haven't been there, who knows?"
"The young monk has never been down the mountain, but he knows there are people under the mountain. The young monk has never been up to the sky, but he doesn't know if there are people in the sky." The young monk no longer felt nervous and naturally started chatting with the woman.
"Young master, have you ever gone down the mountain?" The woman suddenly became curious.
"No, I have been on the mountain since I was sensible. Apart from people, what else is there at the bottom of the mountain?"
"Yes, do you want to know?" the woman said, looking down at the little monk's bald head.
"think."
"But sister won't tell you. If you want to know, just go down the mountain and have a look." The woman said slightly playfully.
"I don't dare." The young monk had to say.
"Why don't you dare?" The woman didn't understand. There was something under the mountain that he was afraid of?
"have no idea."
"Alas." The woman sighed, suddenly feeling a little pitiful for this little monk.
The two of them looked at the scenery in the distance for a while, and then the woman was about to leave.
This time, the young monk saw off the donor for the first time. He said it was a farewell, so he sent him to the stairs.
The young monk watched the woman walk down the stairs, then looked around. No one was there. Looking at the woman's back again, he suddenly said in a voice as thin as a mosquito: "If the young monk goes down the mountain, can he find the donor?"
The wind on the top of the mountain was very strong, and his voice was blown away at once. He looked at the woman's back as she continued to go down the mountain, and he suddenly felt relieved, but also a little disappointed.
The little monk was about to turn back when he saw the female donor turning her head to smile at him and said, "Okay, as long as you can go down the mountain and find my sister, I will give you a surprise."
The little monk looked at the woman's smile in shock. When he turned around, the woman had already gone far away. From then on, for a long time, the woman's smile would always appear in the little monk's boy.
As spring passed and autumn came, the young monk suddenly found that time passed very quickly. For two years, he tried to take that step, but failed, and he was looking forward to the white figure reappearing in front of him.
When he came to the stairs again, stared for a long time, and was about to give up, a person pushed him from behind and made him take the first step.
The little monk held on to the cliff and looked back at the man who pushed him. He was his master.
"Master!" The young monk looked at his master in confusion. The stairs were very steep. Aren't he afraid that he would push him down into the abyss?
"Send me a letter." Shuku took out a letter from his arms and handed it to the young monk.
"To whom?" The young monk took the envelope. There was no writing on the envelope, and the envelope was very thin. Both the young monk and the mountain suspected that there was no letter paper inside.
"Shudong monk from Longyou Temple." Shuku said with a kind smile.
"But I've never been there." The young monk said with some embarrassment.
"There is always a first time for everything. I have already told you, if you can't find it, ask someone. If you don't find it, don't come back until the letter is delivered to you." Monk Shuku turned around and left.
The little monk held the envelope in a daze and looked at himself walking down many steps. He finally took this step. Although he was passive, he finally took it.
From being afraid to taking the step, the little monk didn't understand what he was afraid of before, but after taking that step, those fears disappeared.
On this day, the young monk came down the mountain.
It took a month after this letter was sent. A month later, the young monk returned to the mountain and told his master what he had seen and heard in the past month. His words were full of excitement.
Shuku just listened quietly.
Since then, the young monk has been going down the mountain often for a month or two. Every time he comes back, he tells the master what he did, what new things he saw, and which master he learned from.
What.
The little monk gradually lost his immature and shy character, and gradually grew up.
When he was seventeen years old, the young monk, who was almost grown up, started discussing with his master.
"Master, I want to go further afield." The young monk said nervously, but he concealed his nervousness very well.
"Can you tell me the reason, Master?" Shuku asked his disciple for the first time. No matter what he did before, Shuku would never ask him the reason.
"I just want to see more things. The Buddha said to save all sentient beings, but I have never seen how to save all sentient beings."
Listening to the grown-up little monk's answer, Shukui stopped asking questions and just told him some things so that he could go down the mountain to travel at any time.
The little monk lied. After seeing more things, he lied for the first time.
Perhaps out of fear after lying, the young monk went down the mountain within a few days with a small bag and a sword.
Not all the monks at Daotu Temple are monks who live in the mountains eating fast and chanting Buddha's name. There are also some monks who walk on the land outside Liusu Mountain, teaching Buddhism, helping the world and rescuing the people.
Monk Shuku smiled and watched his disciple go out for a trip. Maybe he knew that his disciple had lied, or maybe he didn't know, so he stood quietly at the top of the stairs and watched his disciple go down the mountain.
As for his disciple, he left for two years and there was no news from him for two years.
