33. The unwise and the wise

Whitley slowly shrank his body, and weakly raised his arms to hug himself. His face twitched, and he murmured in pain: "Oh... it hurts... my whole body hurts..."

Lu Li knelt down and was basically at the same level as Whitley: "You have been rotting for many days, and your nerves should no longer be able to feel. The so-called pain is just your illusion, let it go."

This fact is extremely cruel, but it works.

Whitley stopped murmuring in pain, stretched his curled up body again, and lowered his arms.

"Can I ask some questions?" Lu Li looked at the eyes that were no longer clear.

"What do you want to know."

Her eyes slowly moved and fell on Lu Li. Her hand suddenly raised and reached towards Lu Li's face.

An invisible wall stopped her and forced her back to her original position.

Anna floated aside, with a puffy face.

"I can roughly guess what happened to you. What I want to know is the cause."

Regardless of their little actions, Lu Li said seriously.

"What happened to you?"

Whitley was silent as the minutes passed.

When Sauron, who was watching the whole situation from the corner, thought she was dead, Whitley spoke slowly.

"There is a madman..."

Wheatley's narration is disordered and fragmented, just like disrupting and reassembling a madman's speech. It is understandable that you cannot expect a person whose consciousness and body are on the verge of collapse to speak logical words.

Soren is a lawyer, and analyzing key information from words is his strength. But this time Soren was completely unable to understand Whitley's words.

Perhaps only Lu Li understood what she was talking about and what she was expressing.

Similar to Lu Li's guess, Whitley was another victim who was used as a test subject by Richard, just like Claire.

Richard's attack took place five days ago, which is similar to the extent of her decomposition. The cool rainy season extended Wheatley's "shelf life" by a few days. On a sunny, hot day, her body might have recovered in just three days.

It will rot and get maggots.

In Wheatley's account, Richard captured her on her way home from get off work, performed an operation in a dark and damp secret room, and transplanted bloody tentacles into her body. What she said here is "a A cold, crawling, insect-like disgusting thing." Lu Li thought she was referring to the bloody tentacles.

Whitley thought she had met a steam geek and was waiting for her fate to end the rest of her life on a cold operating rack. But surprisingly, she was let go by the madman - it is wrong to say let go, because she was also

Locked in a secret room, the madman left and simply closed the door without even locking it.

Whitley broke free from her restraints and escaped. She was too timid to contact the police and rested at home for a day before returning to work the next day.

She should have been able to realize that her body was gradually decaying, but unfortunately, Richard's experiment this time had something more than before, which made Whitley's mind begin to become dull, slow, and finally turned into a lunatic.

This is what I see now.

Somewhat surprisingly, Wheatley doesn't have the ability to possess other people's bodies. She might have it, but she doesn't.

The same may be true for the other victims implicated by several tentacles, which made Lu Li feel much more relaxed. This meant that there would not be as many victims as he thought.

"What is a steam geek?"

Lu Li tilted his head and asked.

Sauron thought he was asking himself, and when he opened his mouth and was about to speak, a crisp reply came from the air.

"The characters and images in horror novels and comic books come from legends. Some conservative people and believers believe that so-called science and those metal crafts are destroying the world and offending the gods, and then there are these contents."

Anna prefers these interesting stories to aristocratic etiquette classes and boring paintings and art.

"The Steam Monster is a mad scientist. He will capture innocent people, transform them, and synthesize them with those industrial products."

"We'll talk about this later." Lu Li interrupted Anna's story because Whitley was about to die.

Whitley's chest became heaving. She didn't need to breathe because she had been dead for many days. The siphoning sound like a beast licking water came from her chest. She suddenly felt like being electrocuted and grabbed Lu Li's wrist firmly.

Breathing roughly, the swollen head was raised, and the cloudy eyes seemed to have focus, staring at Lu Li: "Find...find...him..."

"I will."

After receiving Lu Li's answer, Whitley's body lost the last bit of strength, his cloudy eyes gradually became dim, and the palm holding Lu Li became weak, breaking away from his guard and falling downwards.

Her head lowered, and the last fire of life disappeared from her body.

The people present and the ghost sighed in unison, and then breathed a sigh of relief.

"Anna, set up a solid stance."

Lu Li stood up, took a step back and said.

"What is a solidified stance...?"

Putting his palms on his waist, Lu Li stared at the hanging head in front of him: "I will blow up Whitley's head later. In order to prevent the brain, blood and hair from splattering when the head explodes, you have to use your ability to prevent those things from spreading.

"

"Okay, I'll understand if you put it that way. But it's really... evil..." Anna regretted why she asked Lu Li, so much so that now she was disgusted.

She didn't want to ask why Lu Li wanted to blow off Whitley's head, and just used his remaining power to arrange the so-called "freezing stance" around Whitley's body.

Lu Li drew his gun and pulled the trigger.

Amidst the deafening gunfire, the windows trembled slightly, screams were heard outside the conference room, and Whitley's head exploded, but the bloody scene as imagined did not occur. Just like Hall at the time, her broken body gradually turned into nothingness.

This is a bit strange. The body was also invaded by that thing. Claire's body was preserved after death, but Hall and Wheatley dissipated into the air after death, as if they never existed.

But at least they don't have to worry about how to dispose of the body.

"We originally thought Whitley was sick..."

Sauron exhaled a breath and didn't know what expression to use to face Lu Li: "Well... Mr. Lu Li, right? Do you have time? Maybe we can chat..."

"there is no time."

"...Then how should I contact you?"

"The business card is at the front desk. You can ask her for it later."

"Ah, okay."

The contrast between Soren and the others was a little funny. He thought Lu Li was in a bad mood, so he shut up and sent Lu Li away from the Root Bank building.

"Most people still don't seem to believe that there are ghosts in this world." Back on the carriage, Anna revealed her soul and murmured in a low voice: "It's so stupid that disaster is right in front of us in the dark night..."

Lu Li had another opinion on this.

"The more knowledge people have, the easier it is for them to have doubts. This is the force that drives us forward. These people are more willing to trust their own eyes and judgment than to vague rumors."

"The really stupid ones are those who believe anything easily."
