Thirty-five. Departure

The detective agency has become more lively than before.

It’s not that it’s usually deserted. Since the arrival of Anna and the insignificant sculpture, the word deserted no longer belongs to this detective agency.

At this moment, the detective agency's desk was full of miscellaneous items, the carriage was parked on the street outside the window, and Anna was still putting things on the desk that she thought she should bring.

A few books to relieve fatigue, pure water in kettles, spare torches for each household, two oil lamps, several pounds of kerosene, and picture frames for hiding.

Lu Li had no intention of stopping her. This kind of preparation on the eve of a trip is what most people like to do. People are keen to think about what they should bring and whether they will miss anything. Until Anna was ready to take away all the clothes in the wardrobe

.

"Shadow Town is not far away. We will leave during the day tomorrow and arrive in the evening."

Lu Li, who was watching all this happen quietly, said.

Anna, who had just opened the closet door, stopped and asked tentatively: "Then bring one thing...?"

Lu Li raised his eyes and looked at Anna, and after a few seconds he replied: "Okay."

After receiving the agreement, Anna cheered and got into the closet, picked up a set of clothes and threw them on the table.

After being busy for half an hour or more, Anna got everything ready before she got the disappointing news from Lu Li. They would not set off until tomorrow morning.

"It's already afternoon. If we set off now, it means we will have to travel at night for more than half of the time."

Although it is safe to stay in the light, there is no guarantee that other problems will not occur at night. Although the distance of 200 miles is not far, it is not as easy as going from Belfast to Watchtown.

Traveling long distances inherently involves risks, especially traveling at night, and the troubles Lu Li was currently encountering did not warrant him taking such a big risk.

Anna had to accept this fact. Fortunately, she didn't need to sleep, otherwise she might have been up all night.

Supported by perseverance, the exhausted Anna waved her hands to Lu Li and got back into the picture frame she put on the desk. After Anna went back to rest, Lu Li got out of his seat and started to get busy, putting back the extra things Anna found.

, such as those pounds of kerosene.

He went to Shadow Town to deal with the Scarlet Tentacles, not to sell kerosene.

By the time Lu Li got everything ready, the sky started to get dark.

He lit the oil lamp, went out to buy dinner from the bakery, finished his dinner in silence, went out to throw away the garbage, filled a basin with some beans and water, and went out to feed the horses.

The beans were provided by the car dealer, probably thinking that Lu Li would be their new customer, and the rental period was longer than before, so the car dealer provided all the rations for the horses rented this time.

After feeding the horses, Lu Li returned to the detective agency, closed the door with a click, passed the sculpture next to the door, and stopped.

He remembered something.

Regardless of whether things go well or not, they will never come back one day.

Lu Li stood in front of the sculpture that seemed to have never been touched since he was brought back to the detective agency. He stared at it quietly for a moment and said, "The detective agency will be left to you while we are away."

After waiting for a few more seconds, the sculpture did not respond. Lu Li turned around and walked away, rolling up his sleeves and walking towards the kitchen. After a while, the sound of water flowing from inside was heard.

After washing his face, Lu Li returned to his desk. The night was quiet. He sat down on his chair and seemed to remember something. He sat quietly for a few minutes, then lay down on the desk and fell asleep under the dim butter lamp.

Time passed by quietly, the barking of dogs sounded from somewhere outside, and occasionally the candle in the oil lamp swayed briefly, and the swaying light and shadow seemed to make the sculpture come alive.

As midnight approached, a translucent outline faintly floated out of the frame. Anna stretched out her arms as if stretching her waist, wanting to say something, but when she noticed the sleeping figure lying on the table, she quickly covered her mouth to avoid it.

Wake the other person up.

Anna's movements became gentle, even though her movements made no sound.

Anna floated to Lu Li's side, took off the windbreaker hanging on the back of the chair, and gently covered Lu Li. She looked at Lu Li quietly for a while with her clear eyes. After making sure that Lu Li had not been awakened, she floated behind the desk and collected the items from the desk.

He pulled out the storybook he had not finished reading and turned to the page with the bookmark.

She lowered her head, her hair falling, and was immersed in the story in the book. But occasionally she would raise her head, glance at Lu Li across the table, raise the corners of her mouth slightly, and continue reading with some joy.

The only sound left in the room was the occasional sound of turning books.

At a certain moment, Anna noticed that the surroundings became dim. Thinking that the oil lamp was filled with kerosene, she raised her head and found that there was a dim and deserted faint light outside the window.

It's going to be daybreak.

Anna buttoned down the half-read book, stretched out like she did when she was still alive, and suddenly realized that Lu Li across the table had woken up, and his dark eyes were looking at him.

"Ah..." Anna exclaimed and retracted her arms in embarrassment: "When did you wake up?"

"When you find it dawns."

Lu Li sat up straight, and the windbreaker that slipped behind him attracted his attention. When he looked back, he found that Anna was staring at him - or rather his hair - with a strange look.

"What's wrong?" Lu Li asked, tilting his head.

"Well..." Anna suddenly covered her chest and waved her hands as if she was struggling to endure: "Nothing."

Lu Li raised his hand and touched the top of his head, and found a handful of hair at an unexpected location.

"Any hair sticking up?"

Lu Li asked, and after receiving Anna's nod like a chicken pecking at rice, he pressed down the bunch of raised hair. But when he moved his hand away, the bunch of black hair stubbornly stood up again.

"puff……"

Probably because she found it interesting, Anna couldn't help but burst into laughter, waved her hand and said, "Go take a shower."

Lu Li put down his palm and shook his head: "We don't have enough time, just wash your hair."

He stood up and left his seat, walked into the kitchen, and walked out after a while wiping his wet black hair.

It's not bright enough yet, but there are already scattered residents walking around on the streets who have gotten up early.

Anna prepared food for the horses, and Lu Li loaded the items that needed to be brought onto the carriage, fed the horses, and returned to the detective agency, picked up a piece of paper and wrote "I am out of town temporarily, no one is in the detective agency".

"What if the baron comes?"

Anna dragged her chin and asked vaguely.

Lu Li, who was about to close the pen cap, paused and added a new line below.

[If you have valuables to give away, you can throw them into the crack of the door.]

"alright."

Putting the cap on his pen, Lu Li took the paper to the corridor and posted it on the door.

After returning to the detective agency, she put on her windbreaker and picked up the oil lamp on the table. Anna followed Lu Li and left the detective agency.

snap——

The door closed tightly, the last ray of light from the oil lamp disappeared, and the room fell into darkness.

The sky near six o'clock is covered with clouds, and there will be a dull light.

Everything in the room came to a standstill.

Dawns Here Are Quiet.
