Fifty-two. Strange shadow in the forest

Anna carefully tested the charred body kneeling in the rain in a praying posture. Her movements were a bit like a curious child peeking at the lion through the circus cage.

There was no breathing or heartbeat. This body was completely dead.

Anna stared blankly for a while, then suddenly remembered that she was outside. She walked towards the wooden house as if frightened, penetrated the closed wooden door and returned to the house.

The bright and stable firelight brings warmth and dispels the cold.

Lu Li was cleaning up the hut. He picked up the overturned pot and put it aside. The stones around the fire were re-circulated, and the collapsed fire was re-erected and new wood was added.

Lu Li removed the bedding from the bed, wiped the wooden boards around the campfire, wrapped up the suspicious pieces of meat, and threw them into the corner where the pot lay quietly.

"Send the body outside and bring back some wood."

Lu Li said to Anna who was being chased by something.

There were still some debris of the male owner on the ground in front of the door, and the little boy's charred body was nailed to the wall. Although it wouldn't make Lu Li uncomfortable if he left it in the house, it would be a little strange, so it was better to throw it outside.

The smell of the wreckage of a family of three who doesn't know what it is should be able to scare away certain beings.

"oh."

Anna nodded, used her power to pull out the wooden stick from the little boy's mouth, lifted it, and gathered up the debris in front of the door. The smaller pieces of debris had been blown to the corners by the strong wind that had entered the wooden house.

Pay attention to it.

The wooden door opened a crack, and was pushed open by the wind that brought in the rain. The wooden house became dim and bright again. Anna simply closed the wooden door, and the fire began to calm down again.

Anyway, she has no physical body, so there is no need to open the door when she comes back.

Anna threw the body into the woodshed, grabbed some more wood, hurriedly left the dark woodshed, walked around to the main door and went straight through.

"I'm back!"

Anna, who got back into the cabin, shouted crisply.

Bang - bang -

The door trembled slightly, and along with the trembling, there seemed to be a sound of something falling outside the door.

Anna was suddenly stunned, looking at the empty arms in a daze.

Huh? I clearly remembered to bring it in... Where is the wood?

After simply tidying up the wooden house, Lu Li walked over to the diary, lowered his head and picked up the diary whose pages had been blown open. He said without looking up, "You are a ghost, wood is not."

"Oh...hey hey."

Anna giggled and scratched her head, turned around and floated outside the door, then remembered that the door was not open yet, so she floated back to the cabin again, opened the door, picked up the firewood scattered at the door, and returned to the house.

Lu Li threw the diary towards Anna who had just put down the firewood, picked up the wet firewood and placed it to dry outside the campfire: "Remember to read the whole diary next time."

"Eh?"

Anna tilted her head in confusion, picked up the diary, found that she had held it upside down, then turned it over, and floated to the campfire to open the first page of the diary.

[September 13th. My name is Rena. My mother told me that I can write a diary once I can read. I asked my mother what a diary was. She said that it is to write down the things you wanted to say but didn’t say. I didn’t understand. My mother asked me

I can write whatever I want.]

The handwriting is not neat, but the writing marks left on the paper can make people imagine a little boy sitting at the table, holding a quill in his little hand, writing the diary carefully stroke by stroke.

[September 14th. Betty is a fool. I saw her chasing her tail in many circles. Wouldn’t she get dizzy? 】

【September 15th. What should I write? 】

【September 16th. I don’t know what to write.】

[September 17th. I took Betty to the park. She ran so fast that I almost couldn’t catch up. There were many children like me there. I met Rachel, Johnny, and Ben.

They liked Betty very much and took me to play a lot of fun things. Well... I seem to understand what a diary is.]

After reading the first page, Anna turned to the next page and found that there were at least dozens of pages of such content.

Normally, Anna, who was always bored, would read page after page with great interest, but she wanted to know what Lu Li meant by that sentence.

Looking up at Lu Li, he took out a kettle from his backpack and placed it next to a stone to warm it. He also took out some dry and hard bread, preparing to eat as soon as possible.

Simply skipping the following content, Anna kept flipping back until the page that changed appeared.

Starting from the middle of this page, the handwriting in the diary changed. The careful handwriting turned into a sloppy handwriting full of typos.

[April 8th. We are going to Belfast! My mother said it is more prosperous than inland. I don’t know what prosperous means. 】

[April 9. I spent a long time without falling asleep. My mother said that I was too excited and told me to go to sleep quickly and leave tomorrow. 】

[April 10. The carriage is shaking so much...]

[April 11th. I heard from the adults that there seemed to be some kind of swamp ahead... What is a swamp? 】

[April 12th. I am very sad... I don’t know what happened. My father and mother rushed in in a panic and hugged me. They took me and ran into the woods. The ground was very wet. Is this a swamp? There are many here

Bugs, luckily we found the house before dark. It was a family of three like us, and there was a little boy!】

The diary was interrupted for a few days, and the handwriting began to change.

[April 15th. My mother told me that this is called a diary. I can write in it and write down whatever I want. I want to eat big meat! 】

Seeing this, a terrible thought flashed through Anna's mind.

The thought made her shudder.

Rena and the little boy were never the same person!

The diary belonged to Rena. Like himself, he and his family ran here and were received by the family, and then the diary fell into the hands of the little boy...

What is that big meat...?

Anna continued to look and found what she wanted under a few lines of crooked handwriting.

[April 19th. After we treated our guests to a big meat dish, he cried so much that I hated it. But we can make him into a big meat dish soon!]

Is this what Lu Li wants to say...

Anna murmured in a low voice and subconsciously looked at Lu Li.

Lu Li stood in front of the window, his face reflected in the glass. He looked outside the wooden house through the spreading light of the Razer.

If the six-legged savages hadn't suddenly broken in and Lu Li discovered the problem somehow, they would have definitely attacked us...

Anna lowered her head and found that she had unconsciously turned to the last page of the diary.

[The storm is coming. Dad said there is no prey today and we can only eat stale food. I hate storms]

[A guest is here! Great, mom and dad will definitely entertain him, and I can eat big meat again!]

[But only guests can eat the best parts, and I want to eat them too...]

There is an additional paragraph at the end of this passage, perhaps the little boy before the six-legged savage broke in.

Anna murmured softly and read out the content above.

"When uncle comes back, we can eat meat together..."

A flash of lightning flashed through the clouds in the sky, suddenly turning pale into a swamp, at the edge of the jungle.

A huge figure carrying an ax appeared in outline.
