65. She had to do it

[Hey, why don’t you just wait for my plan to be completed like a good boy who listens to your mother? 】

[Look what you have done...poor old Rodney, his two sons just left him not long ago, and now you, the devil, want to take his life away!]

[As a just and brave citizen of Belfast, it is everyone's responsibility to fight crime. I have already called the police. They should take you, the murderer, to the police station soon and bring you to justice. ]

The street behind suddenly became commotion. People were screaming and running away due to the strange fog. Lu Li looked away from the paper.

A young man dressed as a newsboy was grabbed off the ground by an invisible force, waving his limbs and screaming in terror, floating towards the carriage.

He is not Richard.

"I am an exorcist and I want to ask something." Lu Li looked at the young man who was brought to him and raised the letter: "Who asked you to send this letter."

His fingers were stained with ink, the writing on the paper had not yet dried, and it had not been long since he had written the letter.

After all, it had only been ten minutes since Lu Li left the cemetery.

"Monster put me down!"

The young man seemed to be frightened. He closed his eyes and yelled and struggled, but did not hear Lu Li's calm words.

"Let him calm down," Lu Li said.

Anna was already doing it. Like those infected who turned into human pus, Anna imprisoned the boy's limbs, making him unable to do anything except breathe.

The young man, held hostage by fear, finally opened his eyes and saw the calm Lu Li, falling into a daze.

In the brief silence, Lu Li spoke: "I am an exorcist——"

His words were interrupted by a burst of noisy footsteps. Lu Li looked forward and saw police officers rushing towards him in the mist dozens of meters away, including figures of night watchmen in black uniforms.

Richard really has to do this.

Lu Li lowered his eyes and looked at the unread content on the paper.

【You deserve this!】

[Only I can save everyone, and you are just a poor clown who failed in trying to plunder the fruits. Just squat in a cold and damp dungeon and count the rest of your life! 】

"Let him down."

After folding the paper, Lu Li said to Anna, took out his investigator badge and looked at the police watchmen who were gathered around him: "Senior Investigator Lu Li is tracking a fugitive who framed me not long ago."

"I know you."

A police officer suddenly stood up and looked at Lu Li with surprise on his face: "I saw you at the port last night."

With his companions testifying, Lu Li was quickly cleared of suspicion.

A night watchman carefully looked around Lu Li, seeming to sense Anna's presence: "As you said, the police station received a call ten minutes ago, saying that the murderer killed an old man in the cemetery and was heading this way.

Come."

After a slight silence, Lu Li replied: "I killed him, he was parasitized by a weird thing."

The night watchman had no doubts about Lu Li's words - exorcists never doubt each other's quality, especially a senior investigator.

Richard's plot was ineffective and could not even stop Lu Li for a few minutes. Perhaps Richard knew this, but his unstable mind made it difficult for him to lay out a more detailed and perfect plan.

Regardless, Richard was cornered.

The night watchman and police officers returned to the police station, followed by Lu Li in the carriage.

Now, he had some suspicions that needed to be confirmed.

The young man was quickly allowed to leave by Lu Li. He was just a newsboy. He was approached by Richard a few minutes ago, and he was given two shillings to deliver a letter and told Lu Li that he was in danger and should run away immediately after putting down the letter.

A few minutes later, Lu Li followed the police officers back to the police station and asked them to trace the address of the police number.

The result soon emerged that the source of the number was a public phone booth in a Marseille neighborhood.

It does not coincide with suspicion.

Lu Li asked again about the results of the previous search of Richard's hiding place and about the phone. The police station helped Lu Li contact the police station that handled the incident. After a short wait, the results emerged.

After silently listening to the number coming from the phone, Lu Li hung up the phone and walked out of the police station.

The strange fog that shrouded the city finally showed signs of dissipating, and the field of vision could barely cover half the length of the street.

"Marcus is Richard."

Lu Li said as he sat on the carriage.

The breath next to him was a little disordered, and Anna's voice came out: "He has always been with us, and he also knows our purpose."

"Um."

Everything seemed to be going right. Marcus once said that he was arrested by the police, and that time was also after Lu Li reported Richard's matter to the investigator headquarters.

"It's a pity that we knew it too late," Anna said.

Richard's phone was left in a hidden place and fell into the hands of the police station. Lu Li would never be able to contact him again - unless he showed up on his own initiative.

This is definitely possible. No one knows what crazy Richard will do. After all, he is still using this childish method of threatening Lu Li with letters, and...

"Richard is almost out of money." Lu Li said.

Richard only gave the newsboy a pitiful two shillings, a reward that could barely drive him to make one trip.

Based on Lu Li's superficial understanding of Richard, he was not someone who deliberately saved money, unless it was already difficult to survive.

"So we just need to go back to the detective agency and wait. Wait for him to show up on his own initiative, or take the initiative to contact us using Marcus's identity?"

Thinking of the latter, it does seem like something Richard would do.

"Um."

Now, all Lu Li has to do is wait. Wait for Richard to take the initiative or find him under a false identity.

Nearing the detective agency, Lu Li returned the carriage. Passing by the market, he bought only enough seasonal vegetables and meat for two meals, spending hundreds of shillings.

All food prices have increased, except for black bread, which the government has barely kept within the affordable range of the common people.

But if it continues to worsen, the price of black bread will inevitably rise soon, turning into a pressure that is more desperate than weird.

And the deterioration is like time, flowing steadily downstream, and the results are obvious.

After walking through the gray streets with no smiles on the faces of passers-by, Lu Li returned to the detective agency carrying a brown paper bag.

Anna's figure floated into the kitchen with the ingredients, and after a while, the sound of making a fire came from inside.

Lu Li stood by the bed, looking at the gray clouds, waiting for something.

As time passed, the sound of boiling water and the smell of meat gradually came from the kitchen. Anna, who learned how to put condiments from Aunt Mary, became more and more proficient in cooking.

The black cat had already woken up, got out of the bedroom and jumped onto the sofa. It lightly rubbed against the legs of Lu Li who was standing in front of the sofa, then jumped on the desk and licked its paws.

Every once in a while, Lu Li would walk out of the longhouse, stand in the middle of the street and look around, and return to the detective agency if he didn't find anything.

Half an hour later, the food was ready, and Anna came to the living room carrying the boiling pot.

Mu Su sat at the dining table, and Anna gently scooped up the food and poured it into wooden bowls.

Everything is just like before, as if nothing has changed.
