14. What Happened on the Ground

Mantis ghost, some people also call it mantis ghost.

The mantis comes from its form, and the ghost comes from its ability to penetrate entities.

The mantis is not a monster that is difficult to deal with. There are countless monsters in the wilderness that are scarier than it, because its shortcomings are obvious: as long as you keep a distance and stay quiet, you will not be discovered by it.

"You seem to still have questions to ask." Catalina observed Lu Li.

Lu Li was silent for a moment, and then chose to tell Catalina his question: "Have you ever heard of the Shadow of the Evil Girl?"

"I have no idea."

Catalina shook her head as she recalled it, and then suggested: "There must be someone in the town of Jiangge who knows."

She hopes Lu Li can go to town, which means she will get a large bounty.

The premise is that Lu Li is really a pure human being.

"I will go to town with you." Lu Li knew Catalina's plan, but he did not refuse.

He wants to know what is happening in this world, and——

News from Anna.

"Wait a moment, the Mantis will still linger around for a while if it loses its enemy." Katarina's accelerated heartbeat sounded in the hut.

"You are very excited." Lu Li looked at her.

Catalina did not hide this: "You have no idea how high your bounty is. It is enough for me not to leave the town for several months, and maybe I can even become a resident!"

"Where is your family?" Catalina remembered something and asked.

Lu Li lowered his eyes slightly and replied calmly: "She is missing."

"This is very common in the wilderness, isn't it..." Catalina felt that Lu Li had to learn to adapt to this.

The cabin became quiet due to the heavy topic.

They stayed in the shelter hut and waited for the mantis to leave. Without any warning, a rush of footsteps sounded from the street outside the house.

Lu Li asked and looked at Catalina.

"It's not a mantis." Catalina suddenly stood up.

The footsteps approached quickly, arriving at the unlocked door.

Squeak——

The door was pushed open from the outside, revealing the empty streets outside.

But Lu Li felt that some kind of chaotic malice had substance, permeating the door.

"Brother! Why is it you...this is impossible!"

But it seems that Catalina saw a different scene, and she was communicating with a malicious being.

The exchange continued, and Catalina's mood changed from disbelief to doubt, and then gradually moved closer to half-belief. During a certain gap, she looked at Lu Li, as if the topic he was talking about was related to Lu Li.

Realizing that there would be some kind of trouble if Catalina continued to communicate with the weirdness, Lu Li lowered his head and looked at the back of his left hand.

If “Friday” had pieces of redemption woven into the back of its hand…

Lu Li left his seat, stepped forward, and punched the malicious mass when Catalina rushed towards her in panic.

There was not a ball of air there, Lu Li's fist felt as if it had been plunged into sticky syrup, and his malice evaporated, and a faint, vague scream sounded in the hut.

Lu Li wasn't used to his new power yet, but it was obvious that he was using it correctly.

The malice dissipated as the sticky touch surrounding her fist disappeared, and Katarina, who had escaped from the hallucination, stopped her momentum.

After eliminating the weirdness, the weak humanity poured into Lu Li's body, bringing warmth, but there was no trace of death.

Was it eliminated by an outline that looked suspiciously like Friday, or was the weirdness something other than human?

Lu Li closed the door and turned around to ask Catalina: "What is that?"

"I owe you one."

Catalina still felt lingering fear. She was almost seduced by the weirdness, or she had already been seduced by the weirdness: "I don't know, there are too many monsters that use illusions to deceive people. It's not safe here, we have to leave."

After he finished speaking, a gentle whisper suddenly sounded from behind Lu Li.

"Lu Li..."

Lu Li's body stood stiffly for a moment.

"I succeeded...you died..."

Lu Li did not respond or turn around. He raised his eyes to look at Catalina, indicating that he had been attacked.

He knew it was an illusion and not the real Anna.

The familiar whispers continued behind him.

"I know you will have doubts... This is different from everything you have experienced underground... but the answer has always been with you..."

"Lu Li...my love...open the diary found in the temple...and then face the truth..."

Lu Li paused for a moment, then put his hand into his pocket and took out Nasram Araya's diary.

"The answer is inside..."

In a low voice, Lu Li opened the diary.

【I'm trapped here】

[The interval between tides is very long, and the next one will be more than ten days later, but the way down collapsed and I can’t leave here]

[The good news is that I won’t survive more than ten days. Without food and water, the wounds caused by Anna are also making my life continue to pass]

[No matter who gets the diary, my name is Lu Li, a demon slayer, and I will record all the weird things I know next]

"Think carefully...that corpse is you..."

The whispers that rang out made it difficult for Lu Li to suppress his thoughts.

Is it the residents of the shelter who are trapped in the hole due to despair, or is it Lu Li himself?

Suddenly, a sharp sound pierced the air, and a faint scream sounded in the small house, and then it became quiet.

The familiar whisper no longer sounded in Lu Li's ears.

"It's clear again."

Catalina, who had been rescued by Lu Li twice and saved Lu Li twice more, walked past him and pulled out the homolog embedded in the door panel.

Lu Li looked at the diary again, and the contents were restored to the original. It was still a diary written by a shelter resident named Nasram Araya.

"Leave quickly. If you live in a group and are weird, you will be in trouble."

Catalina inserted the homologue into her eyeball, opened the door and walked to the street.

Lu Li followed her out of the hut and approached the exit of the dark shelter.

The mantis wandering near the entrance has long since disappeared, and only the sticky blood that is almost drying is scattered in front of the exit and on the deep sea rocks.

That was Lu Li's blood.

Catalina peeked out for a moment, took out a piece of fluorite from her arms and faintly illuminated her side, signaling Lu Li to follow.

The shelter is located inside the mine, and its exit is also a mine cave.

Lu Li followed Catalina, who was clutching the fluorescent light, a few hundred meters away. He remembered his contribution points and the deep-sea stone, and asked Catalina if the merchant still existed.

"Not what you are talking about, at least I haven't heard of it." Catalina suddenly lowered her back and brushed the mine floor with her soles. "Shhh... we are almost close to the entrance of the mantis lair, keep quiet."

The rocks under your feet showed traces as if they had been struck by a pickaxe.

The further you go, the denser the traces become.

Lu Li and Catalina moved forward slowly for nearly a hundred meters and passed a fork in the road that led to the mantis' lair.

After leaving a distance, they accelerated their speed and got closer and closer to the mine exit, until the dark light of the outside world lit up at the mine exit.

"What time is it now?" Lu Li asked.

"late at night."

Catalina suddenly remembered something and turned around and added: "By the way, don't look up after you go out, you will go crazy."

"A new disaster?"

"No, it's just that sometimes the scenery can make people collapse... You shouldn't go crazy, but no matter what, don't believe in the sky."
