Lu Li stared at the dark red fire ring formed by the magma and the dome rock wall.
"It looks like it's underground." Catalina answered Lu Li's question. "Maybe this is the sky in your subconscious?"
"What does vision have to do with imagination?"
"Well, it's almost like a dream." Catalina admired the sky.
"Does everyone see the same sky?"
"Yes, everyone can see it, so maybe the current scenery is your subconscious." Catalina said that the sky would change every once in a while, never revealing its true appearance. The scene seemed to stem from people's deep understanding of the depths of the sky.
Empty subconscious imagination, or fear.
This kind of underground cave, the projection of fluorite mixed with magma indeed seemed to originate from Lu Li's subconscious.
"Is it weird?" Lu Li asked.
"Who knows... apart from the slow decline of people's sanity, it can't hurt us." Catalina motioned to Lu Li, who was staring at the sky, to continue on his way.
Lu Li withdrew his gaze and walked towards the distant town in the wilderness illuminated by the ring of magma and fire.
Each town has a rule based on its church. The rules of different towns vary greatly, such as extreme rules: no vegetarian food is allowed; no knowing the time. For example, strange rules: you must take the left step when entering the town.
You have to put your right leg out of town; you are not allowed to wear a hat. There are also rules that can be ignored: worship once a week; you must use specific words to address the gods.
The consequences for violating the rules are also different. Moderate churches will only punish you, neutral churches will be expelled from the town and permanently banned from entering, and some radical churches will be dragged to sacrifice.
"The rules of Jiangge Town are don't harm yourself, and you can't take the initiative to do anything to hurt yourself."
"What if you have to kill yourself to save yourself?" Lu Li asked calmly.
"What?"
"Like doing surgery on yourself."
"I don't know..." Katarina recalled that there wasn't much happening in the town, but she couldn't think of anything. "Are all exorcists as cunning as you?"
"It is necessary to understand something." Lu Li replied.
This is not an exorcist's code, but an investigator's code.
Catalina didn't think so, because knowledge had already become a curse. But because of her respect for the legendary exorcist, she didn't refute this.
The town of Tangge was approaching. Before entering the town, Catalina reminded Lu Li: "Don't trust others casually, and don't tell the truth. Lies are necessary. If you don't want the body to be thrown into the sewer the next day, hide yourself."
There are only loose legal restrictions in towns, and hunters who walk on the edge of darkness and death don't care whether they kill monsters or humans, especially when the latter benefits more and is simpler.
Homicide happens every day.
But Katarina had selfish motives - she was scaring Lu Li.
No one who knows Lu Li's identity can kill him. Lu Li's value lies in living. There is no difference between a dead purebred human and a lowly alien.
Catalina only told Lu Li about the dark laws of this era and did not want Lu Li's identity to be exposed.
Guards are stationed at the entrance of the town. Their symbolic significance is greater than their actual significance. They are more to establish the majesty of the town.
Catalina asked Lu Li to wait here. She approached the guard and said, "I am a hunter, Catalina. I have found something new and want to see the mayor."
The two guards looked at each other with undisguised contempt and ridicule: "You don't know the rules, you rookie hunter, go find someone from the church."
Catalina seemed to be used to their being too low. She cursed in a low voice, "Idiots, you will regret rejecting me." She returned to Lu Li and led him into the town.
The street surface is a compacted dirt road. There are many people walking on the street, but the atmosphere is colder and quieter. The few conversations that break the silence also come from the residents wearing linen clothes - they and those wearing leather suits for fighting.
A, the solitary and indifferent hunter is completely different.
However, there is no exception. Whether hunters or residents, many of them carry organs born from pollution - the proportion of hunters is greater.
"Is it the same?" Katerina whispered.
Lu Li knew what she was asking and shook his head gently: "There is a big difference."
The worst towns were not so indifferent at that time.
"But at least it can provide safety." Catalina said. "I have been to Midnight City, and it must be exactly the same as before."
Lu Li said nothing.
Catalina led Lu Li to the west side of the town, surrounded by a fence and with only deserted mud religious buildings in the garden.
The arched door of the church was closed tightly, as if it had been sealed.
Catalina walked along the path to the front door and gently knocked on a small door on the door.
Ten seconds later, the observation window on the small door opened, and a dull breathing sounded in the dark space behind the door, indicating that someone was behind the door.
Lu Li faintly sensed that some obscure aura existed in the space behind the door.
Catalina's face showed a sense of restraint that she did not have when facing guards: "Lord Believer, I am Hunter Sting Catalina, and I have found a purebred human."
"Pure human?" the cultist whispered.
Catalina stood aside so that the followers could see Lu Li: "He comes from before the weird era. I found him in the shelter."
A way of saying it, it sounds like Lu Li is a resident of the shelter.
After a brief silence, the believer closed the observation window again: "Jangge Town does not need it, a pure human can do nothing."
"Please wait a moment..."
Catalina quickly stopped the believers and asked in confusion: "Didn't those people from the shelter be sent here a few years ago? Why...why are they not wanted this time?"
"They were picked up by Midnight City." The cultist replied.
"Midnight City? But..."
What else Catalina wanted to say was rejected by the raised observation window.
Lu Li watched silently, the indifferent believers felt refreshing.
The disappointed Catalina returned to him, and Lu Li asked him: "Do you want to go find the mayor?"
"Mayor? No..." Catalina shook her head and said, "Go to the tavern first, where we can find out some information."
Although the believers rejected her, she was not worried.
You never have to worry about not being able to sell gold.
Wanderers Tavern.
The name of the tavern is written on the wooden sign.
As you get closer, the smell of alcohol mixed with the smell of excrement in the dark alley hits your face.
Catalina and Lu Li pushed open the door and entered the tavern. They were crowded in the lively tavern, which was completely opposite to the noisy and rough atmosphere on the street.
"The Wanderer's Tavern, our hunter's tavern." Catalina introduced Lu Li and walked to the empty table in the corner.
Lu Li observed the guests, most of whom were wearing leather armor, and followed Catalina to sit down.
As soon as he sat down, the smell of wine and cooking food made Lu Li's stomach growl in a way that Catalina could clearly hear.
